options having been pretty spoiled for most of the year with most club days producing fairly good mal conditions the axe had finally fallen
Location, location, location? Early morning Lakes Beach and long faces on the desperate few who had arrived for the usual 7.00am kick-off. And the reason for the desperate and despondent appearance on the countenances of these dedicated dozen? Yep, having been pretty spoiled for most of the year with most club days producing fairly good mal conditions the axe had finally fallen. An almost non-existent swell (i.e., no waves), a gentle but pesky north easterly that had persisted during the night added up to just plain old SLOP. However, “where there is life, there is hope, and as we stood around trying to make light of a somewhat gloomy situation a report was received from Ron? that there was a nice little bank with rideable waves at North Entrance. So off a-roving we did go to find that the truth had been spoken and there was actually (very small) waves breaking over a nice little bank and to top this off the very obliging wind gods had swung themselves in an offshore(ish) direction!
A sigh of relief from “the desperates”, a great and quick setup down a 10 metre path on top of a low sand dune and we were underway. This bank must have had pretty much the only rideable waves on the coast and it was all ours. Stoked!
Notable nuisances and notices > Dave and Dave’s crossover. A choice of two. According to Dave Ryan it was a well-planned, well-rehearsed, well-choreographed (yes, we get it Dave) manoeuvre with himself having the high line.

> Also noticed Phil Roxburgh must have bought all his local surf shops supply of wax for his board and used it all in one go. It was hard to pick the design and colour under that liberally applied coating. There was no way Phil was going to lose his grip on that deck! > Final notice(d) The Club within a Club. Or, The League of Hirsute Gentlemen! Fibbo, Phil M, Balko, Donnie B and Phil R. (Have I missed someone?) Stand up and be counted gentlemen, you have done our club proud with your magnificent lower facial locks of many colours, styles and textures. A finer collection of potential bird nest material I don’t believe I have seen in one place at one time before. Perhaps an award could be made for he who is judged as having the finest chin of hair in the CCMB, send your votes to bayrest2@bigpond.com and a bottle of (almost) great red wine will be presented to he who wins the count. (And yes, you can vote for yourself fellas). Judges decision is final and only money will be accepted as a suitable incentive to fixing the outcome. What happened to the days surfing? Anyhow it was a great day, finished off by a fantastic BBQ down by the lake which was very ably attended to by Bronte and Ron G and of course our very own “master chef” Phil M. Oh, and it was great to see a few of the girls at the beach. Now all we have to do is get you some surfboards and into the water. Certainly could help with the numbers and may even shake a few of the guys out of their lethargy. Keep them Hot Doggies rolling until next month. J.O. (snr.)
A bit of good advice: Never put both feet in your mouth at one time, because then you won’t have a leg to stand on.

ed’s rave
Ron’s local knowledge definitely paid dividends this month, and Jimmy Olsen Snr has captured perfectly the day’s happenings. What he did leave out was that he got the set of the day and was the happiest grom – (or is that gremmie) on
the beach, thumping the air to the cheers of the crowd. It was great to see TB enjoying the moment and we were all with you on that one mate! October was the month of our annual pilgrimage to Crescent Head, and what an awesome trip it was again. Day one was small 2–3ft runners out at the point to wet the appetite. The sun was beaming, and after a nice 3 hour session, it was great to sit and watch the rest of the fellas cruising on the point. As the day came to a close, afternoon drinks and tall stories of the day were recounted, whilst our master chef Ronaldo Galea whipped up a massive pasta feast filling us all to the hilt, and ensuring a good night buzz sawing.
Ron’s local knowledge definitely paid dividends this month...
Day 2 saw it a little smaller at the point, but never fear down beach was doing it, with some real nice right handers on the lower tide packing some good punch. Couple of surfs later and it's time for the sport of kings at the bowlo, ya gotta love a good trifecta and Chinese meal, combine this with a couple of birthday drinks for Wayno and Phil, and some innovative dance moves from Fibbo! The night was hilarious. By the way happy birthday fellas! Day 3 still more surf through very bleary red ouzo eyes, but the night's festivities just washed away as the beach delivered up some real nice rides to finish up the weekend. Needless to say if you haven't made the club trip yet book yourself in for next year! This November is a happening month, it is the last club day for 2014, so make sure you come along and enjoy the day. Then just two weeks down the track on November 22nd it’s the presentation evening where all will be revealed as to who has won the sheep stations! Please RSVP ASAP!!! We need to have numbers locked in by the 14th. Let Geoff or Dave Shearim know if you are or are not coming. Well that's about it folks, make your way down to Avoca this weekend. Be at the sharktower at 7.00am sharp. Ed
