Small town show, global difference Almost a decade ago, Pardeeville teenagers came together to fill a void, to create a car show in Pardeeville. These teenagers are not part of a car club or a night car cruise etc. They just had a love for cars in general and felt they could help people. The teenagers helped recruit the strong base of volunteers who make the Pardeeville Community Car & Truck Show possible. When bringing together some of these volunteers, the group discussed what the volunteers would do with any profits. They decided to help people at the local, national and global level. This group build a non-profit 501(c)3 arose as a natural choice, to dedicate all efforts and any funds raised to the pure love of vehicles and to making a difference in the world. “We knew every individual can have a positive impact on the world,” said Jake Breneman, one of the show founders. “But, we also knew that getting together a large group heightens the impact of each individual. Alone, raising or donating thousands of dollars may be extremely difficult. Together, that becomes more possible.”

What began simply as a way to showcase vehicles has become a family-friendly charity event that has raised more than $70,000 for charity and touched thousands of lives everywhere from Pardeeville, Wis., to many parts of the world. We have give to many different charities at a local, national and global level. One example is the Republic of Côte d’Ivoire in Africa; we have supported a local Missionary serving there. The show is guided by its mission statement: “We desire to provide wholesome, interesting activities for our youth. This provides them with opportunities to demonstrate responsibility and leadership in community service, both here and abroad. “ In the beginning, the show attracted about 120 cars. That number has grown by more than 400 percent with cars and trucks coming from across the state and country, including 128 Wisconsin cities and many states, such as Kentucky and Illinois, Minnesota & Arizona. Vehicles and volunteers return to the show always the Saturday, Labor Day Weekend each year, rain or shine.
“The Car Show is an opportunity to volunteer and donate whatever time, skills or resources you have available, whether that’s baking skills, financial contributions or a few hours during Car Show weekend,” Breneman said. “No matter what, you can make a difference and give back to the community.” Additionally, the event continues to be a family-friendly event to which, Breneman said, you can feel good about bringing your family. Each year, families enjoy plentiful activities, such as canoe rides, silent auction, stopping to purchasing the cool and colorful tee-shirts representing the show, stop for a sweet tasting ear of sweet corn, or head over to the food stand for more food and refreshments from sponsors and volunteers, including more than 100 homemade pies, over 27 flavors available at times. The small family of friends that began the Pardeeville Community Car & Truck Show continues to volunteer for the show each year, watching their dream grow and its positive impact stretch across our community and the globe.

BRICK BRIGADE
The Pardeeville Car Show started out as a fund raiser for the construction of a girls’ Christian vocational school and we are happy to inform you that it was nearly the sole contributor to the security wall that encompasses the entire two-acre campus. Then there was a two-year wait while plans were finalized and we waited for another chunk of money to come in. The construction of the school began in March of 2010 with the main building that holds the food services, the chapel, and two floors of dormitories. Since we don’t have to wait for winter to pass, we can work all year around as long as we have money to pay the workers and buy materials like reinforcing rod, wood, cement for bricks and concrete, sand and gravel. (picts catepillar coming, brick brigade, framing the floor) But God has allowed us to work pretty steadily and we are now up to the final slab on the third floor of the dorm building. The first EVENT to be held on the site will be a one-month camp beginning the 20th f February 2012. If that works, we hope to open the school in the fall of 2012 even though we do not yet have classroom space. This was the figure at the end of November 2011.

Rascals & Rockers
Making a difference, globally and locally The Pardeeville Community Car & Truck’s positive effects span not only our surrounding communities but also the globe with the help of organizations like Rascals & Rockers. Dayschool Rascals & Rockers is the vision of one woman and the effort of many, including some special, dedicated young people. Linda Hughes recognized a need for preschool programs more than four decades ago after her life journey led her to be a stay-at-home mother to her newborn preemie. Hughes began a parent cooperative Christian nursery school at which parents helped in the classroom and made up a board. This format remains for the most part the same. Since its inception in 1966, Rockers & Rascals has included more than 2,000 students from all backgrounds. While maintaining a focus on core preschool curriculum, such as music, reading, art, and more, Hughes also includes a focus on teaching the importance of helping and caring for others. Hughes encouraged the Dayschool’s children to share their artwork and scholastic talents with others, such as the elderly, firefighters, veterans and military families. September 11, 2001. The towers fell. Hughes, along with so many others, mourned the loss of many Americans. Two days later, Hughes mailed 40 letters to men and women serving in the military as part of a project now called, “A Case for Caring and Sharing.” She wanted to help, to make a difference, and her Rascals & Rockers help her do so.
Hughes’ students create mailings that are sent to servicemen and women all over the world. Each package contains everything from students’ drawings and Valentine’s Day chocolates to necessities. Since September 13, 2001, the Rascals & Rockers have sent more than 18,000 pieces of mail to veterans and servicemen and women. Since 1966, postal prices have increased significantly and, likewise, so has the need for donations to help Rascals & Rockers’ efforts. “The only way we can mail packages is if we have financial support from people and organizations, like the Pardeeville Car [and Community Truck] Show,” Hughes said. “How many people we can make a positive impact on depends on the amount of support we receive.” Hughes, herself, is a volunteer. She brings Rascals & Rockers information with her wherever she goes and inquires with acquaintances and anyone she comes into contact with about whether someone in their lives could use a Rascals & Rockers letter or care package. The Governor’s Office recently recognized for her efforts with the first Wisconsin Heroes Award. Hughes is a true Wisconsin hero leading an effort with global positive impact and inspiring a school of young heroes. Meet One of our Judges Telly Violetto
Not long ago, Telly Violetto, a long-time judge for the Pardeeville Community Car & Truck Show, headed to Faceoff at Road America, an event held by the Specialty Equipment Marketing Association (SEMA). As SEMA says, “A love for cars, trucks and SUV’s is the motivating force behind [SEMA]…” It was that love for vehicles that sent Telly to Road America.
Telly’s love of cars and dedication has earned him an amazing adventure, and the Pardeeville Community Car & Truck Show is proud to have him as a judge.
“They [SEMA] hold a couple shows a year, but the SEMA Show is the big one in Vegas at the convention center. If you’re into cars, this should be on your bucket list,” Telly said. “It evolved from companies having booths to show their products. Being invited to the SEMA Show is one of the best things that can happen to someone who loves cars.” Telly’s invitation to SEMA came unexpectedly thanks to his experience at Road America. At Faceoff at Road America, the top driver gets a ride to the SEMA Show and then participates in a race, which is televised on the SPEED Channel. The race has three parts: a road course, autocross (a tight, smaller version of the road course) and a speed-stop challenge (zero to 60 to zero and stopping in a box a little bigger than the vehicle). Telly brought his ’78 Gold Edition Trans Am, which he has owned since he was 16 to Road America. “I was way outclassed with most of the cars being serious beasts, most with more than 500 RWHP,” Telly said. “My old Trans
Am had about 220 HP at the engine, but I drove the wheels off of this car.” Attendees noticed Telly’s ear-to-ear smile. Telly even caught the attention of the gentlemen running the show. While Telly planned on heading home immediately after he drove, his plans changed when he was invited to dinner before the awards ceremony. The awards ceremony held a surprise for Telly; he won the trip to the SEMA Show and the race. “They picked little old me and my gold Trans Am,” Telly said. With the help of what Telly calls “awesome sponsors,” he is building what he terms a supercar, starting with the foundation of the Gold Edition Trans Am that has been with him since his teens. Enhancements include a Wegner-built stroked LSX motor 600 plus HP and trans and rear axles, a C6 style front subframe and a rear torque arm from Jake’s Rod Shop, Baer Brakes, six piston 14’’ rotors, Forgeline three piece race wheels, 18x10 fronts and 18x12 rears. BFGoodrich supplied his new tires. And BASF is supplying his Trans Am’s paint and materials. Fifty cars in the world are invited to the SEMA Show with most of the cars being built by big companies or “big time builders,” as Telly describes. Telly’s love of cars and dedication has earned him an amazing adventure, and the Pardeeville Community Car & Truck Show is proud to have him as a judge.

Vintage, Historic, Nostalgic race cars The Pardeeville Community Car and Truck Show proudly present the special class of Vintage, Historic/Nostalgic race cars). This class was introduced several years ago in an effort to help preserve and give awareness to our local car racing history. The open displays of vintage and historic race cars are truly enjoyed by show spectators while they vote for their favorite one. Back in the 1950’s there were four race tracks around the Pardeeville Community located in Columbia County. Rio, Portage, Columbus and Wisconsin Dells all had race facilities. The cars raced were old coupes and sedans, almost every auto maker made it to the track, including Desoto, Studebaker and Nash. The Rio Race track ran from 1950 to 1953 and the Portage track from 1953 to 1960. The Columbus Speedway is still in operation today along with the Dells Speedway. The vintage modified’s still run on special occasions at the Dells and Columbus. The racing was exciting back then and was best described as smack’em up, crack’em up, patch’em up and get’em back on the track. These local race cars were built in backyards, garages and barns; it was common site to see them parked outside the owner’s residence. The owner drivers were out to have fun and understood someone could get
hurt or killed doing this. There is a hall of fame for the drivers and cars owners located in Hartford Wisconsin with some vintage race cars on display. The early race autos were not like todays that were built and not bought. There was no power steering or power brakes. The drivers were as tough as the tracks they raced on. On race day you loaded up the family and friends, hooked up the race car with a tow bar and headed for the track. It was common to see the family car, usually a station wagon, pulling a race car. The station wagon worked great with additional space for tools. No big haulers or trailers like you see today. As the racing evolved, cars became faster sporting bigger tires and larger more powerful motors. With these advancement the attention to safety awareness grew. Eventually they graduated into two classes of open wheel modified and hobby stock class. Several of our local retired racecar driving assist with the Pardeeville Car and Truck show and you can visit with them by the Vintage Race Car display. Charlie Schwock “The Godfather” #29 late models, is a volunteer at the show. He raced for over thirty years and was inducted into the Golden Sands Speedway Hall Of Fame. Also Mr. Don Helper a lifelong
Pardeeville resident assists with the show. Don raced the local dirt tracks, built cars and engines for over five decades and you can pick his brain about the old days on Labor Day Saturday in Chandler Park. The legacy they left behind is followed up by two other active local racing drivers who participate at a high level that include. Frank Kreyer who began racing in half scale NASCAR cars in the Junior Cup series in 1995. He won four straight championships in 1995 to 1998. Also Nathan Haseleu is a local race driver who began racing in a hobby stock at age 16 in 1994 at Columbus 151 Speedway and Jefferson Speedway in Wisconsin. He won the Rookie of the Year at both tracks plus the championship at Columbus 151. He has competed in the NASCAR also had one win, one pole, seven Top 5, and ten Top 10 finishes in the NASCAR Midwest Series (as the RE/MAX Challenge Series had been renamed). two classes faster than us. But somehow we were able to match cars that on paper were significantly superior.
First I must give a brief background.
On our third and final qualifying run, Da Grinch lost third gear. After I found someone from the Speed Channel (let’s just call her Rachel to protect her real name) to inform her that I couldn’t continue, this is when this once in a life time chain of events took place.
As my wife, daughter, nephew and I left our home bound for Pinks All out Chicago, we had no idea of what events were waiting for us only four hours away. As we pulled into the speedway a sense of humility overcame the truck. We all understood we were the ones that belonged the least. We didn’t have a motor home, a friend graciously borrowed us a trailer and our car could be likened to a misfit toy when compared to the rest of the field. Yet there we were, was it Luck- coincidence – or was it something else? We quietly found a place to park & set up. As the racing began I felt the pressure building, this was like no other event we had ever been to. As our class was called “The Grinch” (as my daughter has named the car) and I took our turn at the first of two practice runs. Da Grinch was running better than it ever had before. Was it luck- coincidence or something else? As eliminations races began I noticed we were being paired with cars that were

After we ate and drank like Kings, “Rachel“ came to our box with her supervisor who we’ll call “Tanya”. They both asked if we were having fun, and if we needed anything. Finally they asked if I could come down to their office, while there I answered more question about my family, my home our car and what happened to 3rd gear. Tanya replied “well, we have good news”. For a moment I tried to imagine what their “good news “could be. Tanya said we have made arrangements for you and your family to attend our next event in Nowak,
My reply was “but I still don’t have a way of getting there, my truck is older and I had to borrow a trailer”. No problem “answers Tanya. “Would you like to use my motor home?” In shock I answered “I needed time to think and talk to my wife etc.” Was this luck - coincidenceor something else? Or more accurately someone else? I then realized this didn’t happen because of our car, it was the least impressive car there. It certainly didn’t happen because of my driving skill or lack thereof.
“It didn’t turn out as well as planned but we never planned on it turning out so well!”
Out of the approximate 4000 cars & drivers who applied to be part of this event, only 450 were selected. Out of those 450 how did this car, this team, and the least likely team to succeed gets selected for all this?

After she took a second phone call I heard her say “Oh, yes he is here, sure I’ll tell him that’s great.” Of course I wondered what she was going to tell me after she hung up, but before I could ask she said “Yeah” “about those tickets here are your new seats”. She had given us VIP passes which allowed us to go anywhere we pleased and our new seats were now in the luxury box above the starting line.
Someone above made this happen, he put us in a place where these wonderful people from Pinks All Out made my family permanent winners.

Her final comment /question was “can you get to Ohio in time?” My answer was I didn’t think it would work out because I still had a broken trans and I didn’t have the money to fix or replace it. As they both smiled “Rachel” said “we also have someone that wants to provide a race quality transmission. I went numb.
To this day we still communicate with our friends from Pinks. It is my firm belief that God uses the weak to achieve the impossible. Now you understand why I started this with…. “It didn’t turn out as well as we planned, but we never planned on it turning out this well…… but God did.

1953 John Deere Model 50 Bill Wagner of Portage, is a retired John Deere dealer of 35 years. He found this tractor near his boyhood home in western Wisconsin where it sat neglected in the back farm lot near the fence line. It did not run, the hood and fenders were missing, and it was “rust” brown in color. Bill rebuilt the tractor doing all the work himself. He started with the engine. He reworked all the mechanical components as well as the wiring. Once that was completed, Bill prepared the body for new paint. He even sewed the covering for the new seat. The final result was a tractor that looked and ran like
it had just been delivered from the John Deere factory. Once the John Deere was given “new life”, it began it’s new duties of tractor rides and pulling a wagon load of grandchildren and great-grandchildren as well as neighbor kids. A few years ago Bill gifted this tractor to his oldest son Ron. Ron continues the tradition of wagon rides for the grandchildren. Once a year the tractor makes a road trip into Pardeeville for the Tractor Show in Park Lake on Labor Day weekend, where it sits beside many vintage tractors and proudly displays it’s John Deere green paint and yellow wheels.

Fox of the River Voyageur Canoe Fox of the River Voyageur Canoe started in 2005 by Glen Gorsuch and Jerry Disterhaft. The canoe adventures are truly a hands-on experience stepping onto a time machine, taking the crew back to the beginning of exploration of the Fox River by Father Marquette and Louis Jolliet and discover-
ing everyone living along the river and lake shorelines. Everyone on board are hired on by Jacques Largillier (Glen) and Jean Paul Pauquette (Jerry). As we engage in a role play by paddling a voyageur canoe, we learn the hardships and many aspects of the daily living.

The crew role plays a part of the fur trade as voyageurs and members of the North West Company. The paddlers learn the main points of the fur trade as this is what opened Wisconsin to European discovery through the Northwest Passage in Portage and opened the West exploration.
With water ways the best means of travel in the 1600’s & 1700’s, the Fox & Wisconsin Rivers entered into many folk tales as we try to bring back those stories. Historical texts are not a clear lens that zooms in on the past to tell us faithfully how the world really

was. Rather, as lenses, they are chipped, cracked and fogged, laced with errors, omissions, silent assumptions and preconceptions. The history does not reflect the past so much as refract it.
This is not just a normal antique car/tractor event, this is a show to bring back many memories relating to the cars they once drove, bringing families here to share some of the happy times.
Some sources are more like a kaleidoscope than a microscope, they fragment and rearrange the past rather than reveal it in a true form. While in our canoe, we will attempt to relive this part of the past and in doing so gain a much more clear view into the hardships and colorful way of life of the voyageurs.
With the great spiritual feeling at this festival, the organizers from day one, decided to give back to individuals and groups, the charities that have proved to be life changing. This gives the show an even deeper meaning.

Pardeeville’s days at the Barrett-Jackson Auction By 2009, the Pardeeville Community Car & Truck Show had grown to hundreds of vehicles and hundreds of attendees annually, thanks in great part to invaluable sponsors and to dedicated volunteers. The love of cars, trucks, tractors and everything in between drives many of our show’s volunteers, including two who attended a Barrett-Jackson Auction in October 2009. While perusing the vendor booths, the Pardeeville volunteers began talking to a gentleman, named Jim, whom they soon discovered was the director of insurance for Barrett-Jackson. The volunteers shared their passion for not only own their own Pardeeville-based car show but also their and their fellow volunteers’ passion for philanthropy. The show based in charity and faith moved the director to offer the Pardeeville volunteers all-access tickets to the Barrett-Jackson show taking place the next day. With a departure scheduled for the next morning, the volunteers agreed to accept the tickets
as souvenirs and keep in contact with the thoughtful Barrett-Jackson staff member. They stayed true to their commitment to stay in touch, and Barrett-Jackson’s staff continued to support the Car Show in many ways, including the donation of 200 calendars.
Show, itself, the volunteers took many moments throughout the Barrett-Jackson show to stop and reflect; they reflected on how far the Pardeeville Show has come and looked excitedly into the future about
going on new adventures, meeting new friends and fellow car enthusiasts and touching more lives with the mission of the Pardeeville Community Car & Truck Show.
Fate brought the Pardeeville volunteers to the Southwest United States at the same time another Barrett-Jackson show was taking place in Arizona in 2010. The Pardeeville volunteers phoned Jim with uncertain expectations. Almost immediately, Jim volunteered two free, all-access tickets to the Auction in Scottsdale, Ariz. At the Auction, the tickets granted the Pardeeville Car Show volunteers entry into every part of the show for two days. They even had the opportunity to join Joe Amato, a famous dragster, on stage. With each person they met, they spoke of the unique Pardeeville Community Car & Truck Show and the difference the show is making in so many lives. Just as so many volunteers do at the Pardeeville Car
