GETTING THE MOST OUT OF YOUR TRAINING INVESTMENT Training is an important, but often overlooked, part of an overall human resource strategy. At employee level, it improves skills and assists with motivation and career development. If tackeled stategically, a good development programme enables your business to motivate and retain a skilled workforce for now and into the future. Below we have listed some of the benefits of training for both staff and employers.
Great reasons for employers to invest in staff training: STAFF RETENTION
ADAPTABILITY TO CHANGE
> Training and providing personal development opportunities increases job satisfaction, which can assist in staff retention.
> Training stops your people from ‘getting stuck in a rut’. When changes occur, they’ll be able to adapt more quickly, which helps to keep productivity high.
GREATER PRODUCTIVITY > Training improves the efficiency and effectiveness of your workers, which leads to greater productivity.
POSITIVE ATTITUDE TO MANAGEMENT > Helping your people to gain new skills and knowledge shows that you care. If they like you, they’ll work harder for you.
IMPROVED STAFF MORALE > Staff who feel good about themselves, because they’re learning new things, help to build a positive work culture.
INCREASED CHANCE OF INTERNAL PROMOTION > Training helps to keep knowledge and skills within your organisation and so reduces overall organisational recruitment costs.
IMPROVED SAFETY > Good training helps prevents accidents.

MAXIMISING THE BENEFITS FOR ATTENDEES
We have put together a few tips that we hope will help attendees maximise their training. > Training doesn’t stop when the course ends. We also offer advice, follow-up and advice & consultancy services on all topics within our training and development programme. Our advisors are only a phone call away. > In many of our workshops, interaction and discussion are important elements and therefore the results you take away largely depend upon your contribution. Be and active participant to get the most out of your session. We suggest you sit down with your employer and discuss the benefits of participation and collaboration in these sessions. > Be an active listener and if you have any queries regarding the presentation material, use the question time to seek clarification. Alternatively, if you are not confident doing so in front of other participants, do so during a break or follow-up after the training. Our presenters are on-hand to answer any queries post-session too, so if you find a question has not been answered to your satisfaction please feel free to contact us after the session.
CECC.ORG.NZ
> Be willing to share your experiences, thoughts and ideas with other participants - they too may have the same issues or questions. Participants often comment that the networking with other attendees was just as valuable as the training itself. Add participants to your network of contacts and keep in touch to share common issues and solutions. > Be patient with other attendees - not everyone understands the information first time and some people may require further clarification. Appreciate others’ viewpoints. > Share discussions - let others in the room get their questions and points across. If you feel you need further information, feel free to contact us after the session. > Be punctual - allow yourself plenty of time to find a car park and arrive at least 10 minutes before the scheduled start time. > In order to stay comfortable we suggest you dress in layers, as getting the temperature of the room to suit everyone is not always possible.

IN-HOUSE TAILORED TRAINING When weighiing up the benefits of training, it can sometimes seem that you are upskilling one member of the team with knowledge that would be beneficial to your wider team. If this is the case, and you would rather your whole team benefited from the experience, then in-house tailored training may be the option for you. Our in-house tailored training option provides customised training to help you up-skill the whole team, and will significantly increase the worth of your training dollar. The specific advantages of in-house tailored training are: > the course content is written in consultation with you to ensure it fully meets your organisation’s needs and those of your team. > all the topics can be presented and discussed in the context of the experiences and culture of your organisation, and the level of your team. > because the training is tailored to your team’s requirements, new ideas are more quickly assimilated. The Chamber in-house tailored training is particularly cost effective. We can work at your premises or at a venue of your choice. We can develop and tailor training to meet your needs in all areas of business: > HUMAN RESOURCES > HEALTH & SAFETY > FINANCE > MARKETING > SALES > BUSINESS STRATEGY > INTERNATIONAL TRADE
