China economy is booming, this means great opportunities for business men. One good example under everybody's eyes is China's luxury sector, offering very good chances to those who want to expand their business on this field. China is providing many leading enterprises overseas (Europe, US, ...) with an important export channel which will mantain a constant growth for several years ahead. The favourite items purchased by Chinese consumers are food & beverage, cosmetics and clothes, followed by accessories, watches and jewelry. China is predicted to become the second biggest market in the world for luxurious items by the end of 2015 (the first one is US), with a turnover of around 20 billion Euros per year.
China is seen as the ideal place to develop new business but be careful: not all that glitters is gold! There are many quibbles you need to pay attention to, if you plan to invest time and money in such a country with a completely different historical, cultural and political background compared to the Western world. You should better keep this in mind in order to avoid consistent issues when exporting overseas business model to China. Here are some favourable circumstances for Western food & beverage as well as other original imported items: the wealthy population of Chinese cities is so big that even a small group of "curious" people means a big customer portfolio. By now a high number of of cities shows clear signals of internationalization, the consumers' trend looks more and more Western - including food. The growing number of tourists and foreign visitors in the next future will also facilitate the "return success" of imported products in China and will allow Chinese consumers to experience authentic foreign products, including food.
Thanks to food safety concept, Western food - especially the mediterranean diet - gives a strong motivation in the consumers' choices, in particular for those items which cannot be usually produced locally such as olive oil. The market is constantly growing and in the long-term is going to become much bigger than now.

In every foreign market the importer playes a very important role. In China, the importer is essential because all the import-export transactions must be handled by local companies having their own business license. In addition, even big groups (enterprises, supermarket chains, wholesalers, hotels, exc.) hardly ever import directly from abroad so the importer is the only channel allowing them to buy real imported products. The importer actually does what follows: • Provides support for issuing the shipping documents necessary to export the products including the back labels; • Puts the import license at your disposal; • Handles the products customs clearance as well as payment of all expenses also on behalf of the exporter if the products are stored in a local warehouse. • Handles, directly or indirectly, the distribution of the imported products on the local territory.
• Marketing, promotion and sales of the products on the territory. Regarding back labels, there are two options:
•
The exporter provides the necessary information to the importer, then the importer will set the standard label template in accordance with Chinese rules subject to prior approval by local authorities. This standard label shall then be used by the exporter to create the back labels to be sticked onto the products or to be printed directly onto the original packaging (external and internal). In this way, the product shall arrive at the customs with the labels on it and ready to go through customs-clearance prodedures which shall be handled by the local importer. This procedure is more convenient, in fact by doing so it won't be necessary to handle the imported items again after their arrival in China; furthermore, the Chinese back labels could be printed or pasted directly onto the original packaging, so that the products will have a better look and will be easier to sell. Of course, the Chinese labels will be applied only after carrying out the tests and after the whole registration procedure is completed, in order to avoid troubles during and after customs clearance; Changsha Eurasia China-Italy Trade Consulting Co., Ltd provides this important service as well.
• The exporter provides all the relevant information to the importer that will arrange for a Chinese back label template in accordance with Chinese law and regulations, at the same time the importer will obtain a preapproval from the local authorities. The template will then be used by the importer to print and paste the back labels on the products after their arrival in China - following customs-clearance or following their arrival in the local warehouse. In any case the exporter will need to paste the same label onto the external packing before dispatch from abroad. The purpose of the above-mentioned procedure is to carry out the tests in order to let the exporter print or paste the labels directly on the original packaging.
Importing goods from China is not so complicated as exporting to China, however there are some risk factors to be considered: • Different language and culture. A contract signed in China, in fact, in many case does
not have the same validity of a contract signed in a foreign country. Although our company is registered in China, it is managed by foreigners (Italian shareholders) who interact directly with the Chinese supplier on behalf of the overseas company, avoiding legal issues, language issues and cultural issues. • Chinese supplier's reliability. Through Chinese government official websites we are
able to verify in a very accurate way if the Chinese supplier's company exists or not, as well as to check the company's background and reliability. • Chinese supplier's certifications. We check if the products ordered from the Chinese
supplier have the required certifications in accordance with the overseas company's request. • Inspection on goods during production and before shipment. It is extremely impor-
tant: once shipment has been confirmed - shipment is usually arranged after receiving the balance payment - it would very difficult to claim for damages in China and such procedure would take a big amount of time and money.
Manage a Supply Chain means handling the whole distribution channel on behalf of the overseas company: warehouse entry and exit, monitoring the stock, coordinating with local customers to carry out the orders and arrange door-to-door deliveries, optimizing time and logistic costs. One of our tasks is also to select and manage logistic platforms suitable for any kind of trade products imported from overseas. Thanks to our cooperation agreements with leading logistic companies at international level, we can arrange any kind of shipment (by truck, sea, train or plane) based on the specific terms and conditions of each supply. We are not just "middlemen", instead we are an important human bridge connecting manufacturers and final customers directly, providing all-in-one service and covering every aspect involved when dealing with transactions between China and overseas countries. In short, we offer a very professional, reliable and punctual "package service" satisfying even the most demanding entrepreneurs.
