He was 67. "Joe Frazier was the embodiment of what a great heavyweight champion and person should be. He was a great gladiator," said Don king, who promoted Frazier's third bout with Muhammad Ali - dubbed the Thrilla' in Manila. "When Smokin' Joe came to the ring, you knew you had someone who was coming to fight. i was proud to have known and promoted him, and i was honored to call him a friend." A native of Beaufort, S.C. who later relocated and became symbolic of philadelphia, Frazier won a gold medal in the 1964 Summer olympics in Tokyo and turned pro the following year, stopping Woody goss in one round in his debut at Convention Hall in philadelphia. He rose through the ranks to become champion in 1968, knocking out olympic Trials foe Buster Mathis in 11 rounds to win consensus recognition in the absence of Ali, who'd been banned from the sport for refusing to report for military service.

A second match with Ali in New york was a decision loss for Frazier in 1974, and was followed 21 months later by the rubber match in the philippines, where Ali won by Tko when Frazier's corner would not allow him to come out for the 15th round. Ali later described it as the "closest thing to death" he'd ever experienced. Frazier fought just twice more after the last Ali fight, losing again by stoppage to Foreman eight months later and returning from a five-year hiatus for a 10-round draw with journeyman Floyd "Jumbo" Cummings in Chicago in 1981. "Ali and Joe Frazier's rivalry is the king of all rivalries. you cannot mention Ali's name without Frazier, and you cannot mention Frazier without Ali," said WBC light heavyweight champion Bernard Hopkins, another philadelphia fighter. "Their three fights were the three most exciting fights of the century. "Joe is a person who will never be imitated or emulated. His legacy in boxing will never be duplicated, especially during his era. There will be only one Smokin' Joe Frazier."

"With Joe, first time we met, i extended my hand for a handshake," Foreman said. "He held back his hand and said, 'george, meet my wife.' After i greeted his Mrs., he then said, 'Hello' and 'Nice to meet you, george,' with a firm handshake. Nothing weak in his game. everyone was the same. "i knocked Joe down six times. s part of its ministry to the community, our church celebrates the National Donor Sabbath each year to bring awareness to our community about the importance of becoming a donor. According to the organ donor website, the National Donor Sabbath is part of a donation initiative launched by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services in 1997. observed on Friday through Sunday two weekends before Thanksgiving, the observance includes the days of worship of major religions practiced in the United States and gives all faiths the opportunity to participate. i’m thankful that our church leadership is involved in spreading the word about health initiatives each month. While discussing the benefits of being a donor, my 17-year old asked if i have chosen to be a donor. i proudly pulled out my i.D. and showed her the heart shape with the word “Donor” in the middle. As our pastor said, once you pass on from this life, you are immediately ushered into the presence of the Lord. you can’t take your body with you so why not help someone else? it is also a blessing to hear testimonies about how being a transplant recipient has saved lives. A 16-yr old kidney transplant recipient will have the opportunity to meet the family who helped extend his life by donating the kidney of their loved one who died. Another person who stood before us was Mrs. Jennifer Travis-Cox who shares her testimony in various ways including starting a support group for pre and post transplant patients as well as writing books to encourage and supply information to help others going through challenging situations. if you’re interested in more information, you can visit her website at www.jennifertraviscoxministries.com According to the Southwest Transplant Alliance in Dallas, of the just over 112,000 people awaiting organs in the U.S., more than 90,000 are awaiting kidneys. of those, 30,776 are African American (16,000+ are Hispanic, so over half of those awaiting kidneys are minorities). over 20,000 of the African Americans awaiting kidneys are on the list due to Hypertension or Diabetes. of patients awaiting kidneys, the leading reasons are (more than half due to Diabetes and Hypertension): Diabetes – 29,562 (9,441 of these patients are African American – about a third), Hyper-tension/ November 2011
High Blood pressure – 22,430 (11,620 of these patients are African American – about half), polycystic kidneys – 5,826 (923 of these patients are African American), Lupus – 2,740 (1,485 of these patients are African American). Sadly, minorities are least likely to become organ donors. "African-Americans need to donate more because our need is so much greater," says Dr. Charles Modlin, staff surgeon at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation, director of the foundation's Minority Men's Health Center, and one of the country's top kidney transplant surgeons. "When it comes to transplantation, genetic makeup plays a critical role in matching a person with an organ. Black's immune systems react differently than Whites". The need for organs among African American celebrities made national headlines when singer Barry White died while waiting for a kidney and football great Walter payton died while waiting for a liver. Former NBA star Sean elliott suffered with kidney disease for six years before he received a transplant from his brother Noel. Later, NBA star Alonzo Mourning received a transplant from his cousin Jason Cooper. Rap star Nelly spearheaded the most successful Black bone marrow registry in history after his sister, Jacqueline Donahue, was diagnosed with acute myelogenous leukemia in 2001. More than 1,025 new donors registered, including Nelly and other family members. in February 2007, Former Dallas Cowboy everson Walls donated a kidney to teammate Ron Springs, whose body had been ravaged by diabetes. The list goes on. So, if you are a minority, what can you do to close the gap? "We must continue to reach out to our minority communities--to reach them with the message that organ donation saves lives," Health and Human services Secretary Tommy Thompson says. "it's easy--just sign a donor card and then tell your loved ones of your wishes." round pick from oklahoma has averaged 150 yards per game and the mere threat of him getting the ball has defenses jumping. Dallas has gone 3-1 in that span, moving within a game of first place in the NFC east. “i definitely think i get too much credit,” said Murray, who’s been as humble as he’s been effective. Murray’s breakout began with a franchiserecord 253 yards against St. Louis. He’s proven that he was no fluke by gaining 74 yards on just eight carries against philadelphia, then racking up 139 yards against Seattle and 135 yards this past Sunday against Buffalo. Consider this: he has three 100-yard games in the past month, while predecessor Jones has two in his 41-game career. NFL rushing king emmitt Smith also had three 100-yard games as a rookie, but that was over 16 games; he never had two in a row.
No longer are they a team that will only go as far as Tony Romo throws. No longer are they trying to pull out victories late in the fourth quarter. Dallas has turned into a balanced club that can break games open early, then stay in control, all because of the emergence of a single player: rookie running back DeMarco Murray.
And this: Murray’s 601 yards rushing over a four-game span is 51 yards better than Smith ever had over a similar stretch. His outburst has lifted Dallas from near the bottom of the NFL in rushing to ninthbest. He’s up to No. 11 in the league despite having had only 14 carries the first four games.

Dorsett made the pro Bowl 4 times during his career (1978, 1981–1983) and rushed for over 1,000 yards in 8 of his first 9 seasons. The only season that he didn't reach the 1,000 rushing yards milestone was the strike-shortened, 9-game season of
“He is and should be inspirational,” Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said. “i haven’t seen enough of DeMarco. i’d like to see five more years — at least.”
When (Murray) is bringing the safety down in the box because he is running the ball so well, it opens it up for us on the outside Since an injury to starter Felix Jones forced Murray to take on a bigger role, the third-
Let’s first talk about the only player to win a national championship, a Heisman Trophy and the Super Bowl in the same. Tony Dorsett who recorded 12,733 yards and 77 touchdowns in his 12-year career. Dorsett also had 13 receiving scores and even a fumble recovery for a touchdown. on January 3, 1983, during a Monday Night Football game, Dorsett broke a 99-yard touchdown run against the Minnesota Vikings, which is the longest run from scrimmage in NFL history. Dorsett broke the previous record of 97 yards, set by Andy Uram in 1939 and tied by Bob gage, in 1949. Another notable fact about his record-breaking run was that the Cowboys only had 10 men on the field, as fullback Ron Springs was unaware of the play being called.
No team in the NFL has had more prolific runnners in their history, than the Dallas Cowboys.
going back to the 60’s with Don perkins, the Cowboys have managed to draft runners that became great in their area.

Dorsett was elected to both the pro Football Hall of Fame and the College Football Hall of Fame in 1994 and was enshrined in the Texas Stadium Ring of Honor the same year.
in 1999, he was ranked number 53 on The Sporting News' list of the 100 greatest Football players. He is one of only two players in history (along with former running back Marcus Allen) who has won the Heisman Trophy, won the Super Bowl, won the College National Championship, been enshrined in the College Hall of Fame, and been enshrined in the pro Football Hall of Fame. Then there is Herschel Walker rushed for 5,562 yards in his USFL career. His combined rushing numbers for the USFL and the NFL (13,787 yards) would place him 5th All-Time on the NFL's career rushing list. in 12 NFL seasons, Walker gained 8,225 rushing yards, 4,859 receiving yards, and 5,084 kickoff-return yards. This gave him 18,168 total combined net yards, ranking him second among the NFL's all-time leaders in total yardage at the time of his retirement; as of the start of the 2007 NFL season, ten years after his retirement, he still ranks eighth. He also scored 84 touchdowns: 61 rushing, 21 receiving and two kick off returns for touchdowns. Walker is the only other player besides Derrick Mason to have 10,000+ yards from scrimmage and 5,000+ return yards November 2011
(all of which were on kickoff returns). He is the only player to gain 4,000 yards three different ways: rushing, receiving and kickoff returns. He is one of six players (Jim Brown, Lenny Moore, Marcus Allen, Marshall Faulk, and Thurman Thomas) to exceed 60 touchdowns rushing and 20 touchdowns receiving. Another NFL record is that he is the only player with a 90+ yard reception, 90+ yard run and a 90+ yard kickoff return all in the same season (1994). He is the only player to record an 84+ yard touchdown run and an 84+ yard touchdown reception, in the same game (December 14, 1986). That same day, he had 100 yards rushing and 100 yards receiving. Walker is currently ranked eighth all time in all-purpose yards with 18,168, despite spending his first three seasons in the USFL. oh yeah, who can forget emmitt Smith who was inducted into the pro Football Hall of Fame as part of the Class of 2010, Smith is the NFL’s all-time leading rusher, having amassed 18,355 yards during his 14 seasons in the league after surpassing the late Walter payton. Smith is also a three-time Super Bowl champion (1993, 1994 and 1996) and the only player in NFL history to win the Super Bowl, Super Bowl MVp award and the NFL MVp award in the same season (1993).
So, looking at Smith’s career highlights goes something like this: • The winner of 4 NFL rushing titles, emmitt is the first player in NFL history to rush for over 1,000 yards in 11 consecutive seasons • on october 27, 2002, he surpassed Walter payton's All-Time Leading Rushing Record of 16,726 yards to become the NFL's All-Time Leading Rusher • The NFL's career rushing touchdowns leader with 164, emmitt scored 100 career touchdowns during his first 6 NFL seasons, which was the fastest any player in league history has reached that mark • The former NCAA All-American also holds 58 school records at his alma mater, the University of Florida • He's the first player in NFL history with 5 straight seasons of 1,400 yards rushing • emmitt is the only player with 11 straight 1,000-yard rushing seasons; he has the most rushing attempts in NFL history with 4142 • emmitt also held the record for 9 years for the most rushing touchdowns in one season, 25 • During his stellar career, emmitt has led the NFL in rushing 4 times, won 3 Super Bowl Titles, League MVp honors in1993, the Super Bowl MVp Award (XXViii), and has been selected to the pro Bowl 8 times • He finished his career with a total of 18,355 yards • He was added to the Cowboys Ring of Honor along with teammates Troy Aikman and Michael irvin on September 19, 2005 Romo is no longer facing a secondary stacked to stop him. Now teams are committing the usual front seven to stopping the run and often adding an eighth man close to the line of scrimmage. For a quarterback, it’s like the difference between driving on an empty country road and a downtown highway during rush hour. Receivers benefit, too, because there’s more room for them to roam. “When (Murray) is bringing the safety down in the box because he is running the ball so well, it opens it up for us on the outside,” said receiver Laurent Robinson, who found enough space to catch two touchdown passes Sunday.

Stringer trains women to lead in more than sports
R
utgers University head women's basketball coach C. Vivian Stringer wanted to be a cheerleader in high school to get close to the boys. She was only the second Black cheerleader in the history of her pennsylvania high school; she had to sue to get on the squad. No women were closer to the male players than the cheerleaders. She wanted to be with them so the players could hear her shouting instructions to them on the field. "No one had to tell me that i wanted to become a coach," she says. She sat down for an interview recently with Diversityinc Ceo Luke Visconti, who sits on Rutgers Board of governors. As women's sports evolved, Stringer put her stamp on sports and leadership, not as a cheerleader but as the first NCAA basketball coach, male or female, to lead three schools to the Final Four; the third winningest coach in women's basketball history, encroaching on her 850th win this season; and as an inductee in the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.

"it's always been a goal of mine to be the best coach that i could possibly be. i tried to teach the young women to be strong. Some would choose to become lawyers and some would become computer scientists and some would become teachers and the like."

When Stringer first started coaching women's basketball at Cheyney State College in pennsylvania, there were few female head coaches -- and certainly few Black women coaching college teams.
"But i've always been excited when any of the young women would choose to go into basketball, and then i feel that i have an opportunity to multiply myself times 10." For Stringer, coaching is all about being a leader and preparing women to take those same leadership skills into the world -whether on a basketball court or in a corporate board room. "Leaders have to be people who have a clear vision and have to be willing to stand up. They

2011: An edgier Presidents Cup
T
411 SPORTS AND ENTERTAINMENT
he presidents Cup has always been the calmest of all international team golf events.
it's the kind you'd like to grab by the cheek, or pat on the head. your grandmother would love it. For years, it was the nicer alternative to the Ryder Cup. That competition was fierce. There appeared to be genuine hatred and elation at beating your opponent. The presidents Cup wasn't like that. it was created back in 1994 and it features players from the United States all the way to Australia with stops in South Africa, Japan, South korea and Canada. But, most of the participants, even on opposing sides, lived down the street from each other in gated communities in Florida. The golf has always been good, but the buzz and the heat, well that's been tepid. Until this year that is and the man to thank is Mr. Tiger Woods. His mere inclusion in this presidents Cup started the flame. American captain Fred Couples not only elected to use one of his picks on Woods, who hasn't won in two years and fell outside the top 50 in the world rankings, but did it almost a month before the picks were due. That left Couples with only one pick and he used it on Bill Haas, who won the Tour Championship, and, in the process, the FedexCup. Couples' problem stems from the fact that Woods, his poor recent performances and all, got the nod over keegan Bradley. All Bradley did this year was win twice, including a major at the pgA
Championship. Woods' selection and the timing of it brought unrequited responses Couples' counterpart, from international captain greg Norman. He questioned the Tiger pick. geoff ogilvy, one of Norman's 12, questioned the need to do it so early. Couples, as reserved as a table on Valentine's Day, actually fired back and criticized Norman's selection of Robert Allenby. Couples reminded the world Allenby is winless on the pgA Tour in the last decade. petty sniping resembles school girls. The next set of comments were far from it and once again, Woods was in the middle. Steve Williams accepted an award at a tonguein-cheek caddie dinner for his idiotic ramblings after his new man, international star Adam Scott, won the WgC-Bridgestone invitational. in doing so, he made a racial slur about Woods. Scott and Woods could easily be opponents any time this week and Woods hasn't forgotten anything since the third grade. All of this pre-tournament gabbing makes for an interesting, intense presidents Cup. So too does the environment. There has been no bigger home-course advantage than Royal Melbourne. Allenby first played it at the age of 12. ogilvy owns a home on the course. There are five Aussies on Norman's team. The U.S. is a long way from home. its only loss in the history of this competition came at Royal
Melbourne 13 years ago. it was its only loss and it was a doozy. The internationals came out with a 20 1/2 - 11 1/2 drubbing and the vibe will be strongly pro-international. At the Ryder Cup, you'll see fans of the road team. it's maybe a 10-hour flight at most, but there won't be many red, white and blue hats in the gallery when it takes a full day to get to Australia from the east coast. The internationals bring a good, but not great team to Royal Melbourne on Thursday. Scott, Jason Day and Charl Schwartzel are all great at the moment, but long-time stalwarts like ernie els and Retief goosen are struggling with their games. The American side is limping in as well. Steve Stricker and Hunter Mahan will have more people working on their necks than their short games. Woods is off, Jim Furyk is off, phil Mickelson is off and the true strength of Couples' side rests in unproven bombers like Bubba Watson, Dustin Johnson and Nick Watney. Call the Royal Melbourne/Australia home advantage enough for a second international victory. At least people will be talking about it.

STILL SOME RAYS OF HOPE AS 'WINTER' BEGINS IN LABOR TALKS Shaun powell is a illy Hunter says talks have "completely broken down" and David Stern forecasts a "nuclear winter" but you know what we should call this? Negotiating tactic. That's exactly what's happening while the lawsuits are being filed and the basketball world is buying the hoops equivalent of Rome burning. Because as grim as the labor talks are being portrayed, as futile as a solution appears, and as atomic as the 201112 season looks, keep in mind that this lockout, warts and all, has nothing on the 1998-99 lockout. it is rated pg-13 by comparison. And until it does compare, until the work stoppage continues past the first week of January (which is when the last lockout was settled), anything said or done is just the next phase of the ongoing one-upmanship game. Here in the fourth quarter of a shoving match, it's all about shaking down the other side, looking for signs of weakness, throwing ultimatums against the wind, running to the courts, playing the gullible media for all it's worth and pulling out all stops -and then pulling out more when those don't work. Both sides will claim to play their last hand, at least until they magically sprout another. Stern says he's "through negotiating?" Now that's funny. When we arrive at the same critical propaganda purposes, so the noise was a bit checkpoints of '98-99 -- and we're not there yet -- muted. That lockout lasted 204 days and 464 then you can open your umbrella to protect games were lost. By comparison, this one has yourself from the falling sky. Deep in their souls, reached 324 games lost, which will happen Dec. Hunter and Stern know they haven't reached 15, the last day (so far) of canceled games. obviously, there's the lawsuit and a possible Judgment Day. They know they'll speak again soon, despite lengthy court battle ahead. But the sides are free the dissolving of the union. They know the season to negotiate during the legal process, meaning -- a scaled-down version anyway -- remains negotiating time hasn't really ended yet. over the next few days and weeks, we will see salvageable. This is the scenario they anticipated all along, a work stoppage that would seep into signs of stress from both sides. We will hear from November and possibly December, if only to strike the silent majority of players, those who claim they fear into the other side. Nothing is coming as a weren't versed on the owner's latest proposal and surprise to the commissioner or union executive also those who think it's an acceptable deal. Also, director, not even with the legal turns the talks some owners might press their membership and Stern to tweak the proposal to reach a deal and have suddenly taken. Again, it's best to use '98-99 as the benchmark save the season. Many events can happen to get before taking these predictions of doom seriously. the sides back to the table to end the lockout and Sure, it might match '98-99 for futility or even eventually, that will happen. The games will surpass it and cost the NBA an entire season, but continue, and much if not all of the fury will be we're still weeks away from knowing if either will forgotten. it's just a matter of when. And while a happen. The same alarms you hear now about the dire settlement might not be right around the corner, state of the NBA were also blaring 13 years ago neither is the red button, the one that neither when Stern and Hunter appeared at a stalemate. A SuperStar in the Making by eric D.graham special to 411 Sports and entertainment

e stands tall in the pocket, surveying the field, before throwing a perfect strike to a wide open receiver for a first down. Next, he barks out the cadence from the shotgun formation before sprinting and leaping over the crowd for a touchdown. After an elaborate touchdown celebration, his enthusiasm for the game is expressed on his smiling face as he stares in the camera and looks into the heart of America. yes, a superstar has been born. Don't deny the feeling. Honestly, when this dude puts on a pair of shoulder pads and a helmet, it is must see T.V. He brings the whole family together. And they all watch and cheer for his success. it's like watching a young Michael Jordan during his rookie year in the NBA. in other words, when the game is over, there are a lot of unbelievable stats but very few wins. But things will quickly change for this
budding superstar, who has rejuvenated the career of panthers' wide receiver Steve Smith. Why? Because his sheer presence demands your attention. Just watch the way he takes charge of the huddle before every snap, observe his cool confidence on the sideline, all of this is evidence that this kid belongs in the NFL. even with his careless rookie mistakes, he still plays the game like an old veteran. To put it plainly, he plays to win because losing is not an option for him. And so far, he has played beyond their expectations. He, in fact, has many analysts scratching their heads and constantly checking his stats. Why? Because during the 2011 NFL Draft, most of his critics considered him to be the plan B to Stanford's Andrew Luck. in other words, he wasn't supposed to be
this good so soon. But, Cam Newton is good. And, he is standing on the brink of greatness. With more starts and more snaps, he could be considered an elite quarterback in this league just like Tom Brady, Drew Brees, Aaron Rodgers, and peyton Manning. plus, he could lead the panthers to a Super Bowl victory in the near future. This is not wishful thinking. The numbers do not lie. Newton has completed 113 passes out of 194 attempts while throwing for over 1,600 yards in the air with seven touchdowns. Truthfully, he has the X-factor that Simon Cowell is looking for. And even though the panthers are 1-4 this year, Newton has put them in position to win every game. if you have seen him play yet, this week he'll be "taking his talents" to the georgia Dome against the (2-3) Atlanta Falcons. eric D. graham is the author and alter ego of the infamous BASN character "Bobbee Bee". Ranking the Top 5 Two-Sport Athletes in NFL History
M
aking it to the pros and becoming an NFL athlete takes an incredible amount of skill and athleticism. The feat of becoming a pro athlete is one that is extremely difficult, aspired to by many, but accomplished a by few. What's even more impressive is that amongst the small percentage of athletes who have graced the field in the NFL, there are a few who players who are known for reaching a high level of success at multiple sports. Here is a list of five who did it best. bo Jackson
growing up his entire life as a standout in football and baseball, Bo Jackson is easily one of the most well-known two-sport athletes of all time. Drafted by the yankees right out of high school, Jackson decided to attend college at Auburn University where he excelled in baseball and football. After winning the Heisman Trophy in college, Jackson was selected by the Raiders as the first pick in the 1986 NFL draft and continued to play baseball as well for the kansas City Royals. an excellent lacrosse player. While attending Syracuse, Brown played lacrosse in addition to football and was a two-time All-American. He is also in the Lacrosse Hall of Fame. Jim thorpe Jim Thorpe is unquestionably one of the greatest athletes of all time. A standout in a number of sports, Thorpe enjoyed very successful professional careers in track and field, baseball, basketball and football.
As a matter of a fact, Sanders is the only person to ever participate in a Super Bowl and a World Series as an athlete, as well as being the only person in the history of pro sports to ever score a touchdown and hit a home run in the same week.
As a football player, Thorpe played for the Canton Bulldogs which later became one of the first teams to join the NFL.
Sanders most famously played 14 seasons in the NFL, but also played nine years playing baseball.
A Heisman Trophy winner in college, Walker is well known for his 14-year career in the NFL playing for the Cowboys, Vikings, eagles and giants.

411 TribuTe: Saying goodbye To Heavy d
BY: SHELLYE LYONS: 411 SPORTS AND ENTERTAINMENT “Be inspired”. These are the last two words tweeted by Dwight A Myers aka Hip-Hop lyricist, actor, record producer/executive, and singer, “Heavy D”, just hours before his untimely death on November 8, 2011.
W
here were you when you heard the news about his passing? in this day of technology and real time news, information spreads rapidly across the nation within seconds. i was performing my daily social media tasks when i saw the words in my newsfeed “R.i.p. Heavy D”. in shock, i immediately responded to the poster with “What?!” After having received false information earlier in the week regarding Smokin Joe Frazier, i was a bit skeptical to believe what i just saw. However, as time passed, i began to see more and more of the messages of sympathy and condolences to the family of Heavy D so i began to search the web for myself hoping it was a false alarm once again. Unfortunately, i found the information for myself on the Associated press Newswire, as well as TMZ, our most trusted news sources. it was like hearing the news about Aaliyah, Lisa “Left eye” Lopez, and Michael Jackson all over again. A celebrity in my lifetime… gone too soon. i believe the news was a shocking blow to everyone. Fans tweeted. Celebrities tweeted. The news media was in a buzz. i sat staring at the computer screen for a long time in utter disbelief just hoping what i was seeing was a cruel joke or a mistake. Here was this young man i listened to in my teenage years, not that much older than me, and out of nowhere his life had expired. According to all reports prior to this day, he seemed to be a pillar of good health. i read that he lost a good amount of weight, he had been eating well, and working out 6 out of 7 days a week with a personal trainer. Heck, he just gave an exciting performance in october on the nationally televised BeT’s Hip Hop Awards, his

first live performance in over 15 years, ironically, with Tyrese gibson, our intended featured artist for this month and performed with LeToya Jackson at the Michael Jackson tribute concert in Wales. outside of his music, throughout the years i enjoyed catching glimpses of him in movies and television shows such as, “A Different World, “Roc”, “Living Single”, “The Tracy Morgan Show,” “Boston public,” “Bones”, “Tyler perry’s House of payne”, “Life”, “BApS”, and “The Cider House Rules”. He just released his new album, “Love opus”, in September, had a featured role in “Law & order Special Victims Unit” and even earned a cameo role as a security guard in the new movie, “Tower Heist”. He was in the prime of his life and continuing the legacy of artistic greatness he’s always shown. it is still so unbelievable that he’s gone. Born in Mandeville, Jamaica in 1967 and raised in Mount Vernon, Ny, Heavy D left high school to pursue his dream of being a rapper. He rose to fame as the frontman for the group “Heavy D and the Boyz”, releasing their debut album, Living Large, in 1987. in the 90s,” he made HipHop history with hit songs like “Now That We Found Love” and “Nuthin But Love” with his bandmates g-Whiz, Trouble T. Roy, and eddie F. He is also known for rapping on the theme songs for “in Living Color” and “Mad TV,” and was featured on Michael Jackson’s song, “Jam” and Janet Jackson’s song, “Alright”. He had a stint on Broadway and also became the first rapper to head a major music label when he became the president of Uptown Records. He helped develop R&B singer Mary J. Blige's career, hired Sean “Diddy” Combs as an intern, and later became the senior vice president at Universal Music. He had an incredible career for someone under the age of 50. A number of news reports say that Heavy D actually visited the doctor the day prior to his death, complaining of flu-like symptoms. A close friend reported that he had a touch of pneumonia and authorities believe he may have died from respiratory distress. However, the circumstances and information concerning his passing are still scarce and unconfirmed. While reading through the many condolences, i ran across a post that immediately made me stop and think about what Heavy D meant to his fans: November 2011
411 TribuTe: Saying goodbye To Heavy d "His music brought me into hip-hop with his lyrical lexicon in which he didn't claim himself a gangsta, but a brotha and all the more respect for it. He rapped about the gucci, Lucci, getting girls, his peeps in Mt. Vernon, and mostly, best of all, he could get a party going with "This is your Night," "Take your Time," "Nuttin' But Love", "you Can't See What i Can See", and "Now That We Found Love." Mainly, he spread the message of positivity, what i needed and still need. He even challenged his fellow rappers to rap and not swear in "Don't Curse." Thank god he gave this gift to the world and i will miss him!" Wow. His good friend, MC Lyte said, "What i loved and respected most about Hev was he was himself at all times… a big teddy bear who wore his heart on his sleeve, making him truly the overweight LoVeR. Forever in my heart he will be". in an emotional interview, Tyrese gibson talked about his last interactions with Heavy D. “The last time i talked to him was a few days after we performed at the BeT Awards. i got a phone call that he was going to be honored and performing at the BeT Hip Hop Awards so i was on the phone like, ‘Wow’. And i love that song (singing) “Now that we found love
November 2011
what are we gonna do with it…” So, he wanted me to do it and i was like, wow, ok. So we met up, me, him, and my good friend, Charlie Mac who Hev was really, really close to. We laughed, we joked, and it was good energy and i took him to one of my favorite restaurants in L.A. called Toast… We ended up a couple of days later in Atlanta to do the BeT Awards. We had a great time. We rehearsed, we were hanging out in each other’s trailers, and it was all good energy. We performed and we got on the phone that night and the next day and he was saying, ‘everyone is calling my phone and saying they loved our performance at the show’. He was just excited. i think a lot of times, rappers and singers from what’s considered “back-inthe-day”, when they come back, [they] remind us of why we fell in love with a certain genre of music from the beginning. He’s never had a bad story on him. He’s a class act. Heavy D will forever be known as a spiritual man who loved god, who has always graced his fans and gave us good energy and, of course, the Diddly Diddly Diddly D… His last tweet said ‘Be inspired’. it’s a very big deal. i think a lot of today’s artists feel like they have to do something controversial or crazy almost to create a buzz around their projects but in the end it’s really about the music. The music is what gets us into
www.411sportsNews.com
COVER legendary status; not the antics and media moments... He had a clean slate. No drama followed him, no issues, no conflicts. He was always humble, gracious, just a good man. i met him many, many years ago and it’s just an honor to know that i was one of the last people to share the stage with him. [What i remember most] is that everyone was on their feet. everyone stood up and everyone was happy to see him on stage. He was dancing the way we’re used to him dancing. i don’t know. No one can really be compared to Hev. He was his own man, in his own lane. it was fun. He had fun on stage and i think of all things, Hev would want us all to remember him for the good energy and fun that he brought to music”. To the family of Heavy D, our sincerest sympathy, condolences, and love to you for this unexpected lost. Heavy D was truly one of a kind and he will be missed. He gave us great memories and as TMZ reported, whenever we had the honor and privilege of meeting him throughout the years “-- there were always 3 constants - ALWAyS friendly, ALWAyS funny and ALWAyS smiling”. Diddly Diddly Diddly D! No one can do that like you, Heavy D, and i don’t think anyone ever will. May your soul rest in peace, my brother.

HE SAY/ SHE SAY Question: can Infidelity be forgiven and under what circumstances would you do your best to forgive and move forward? this is posed to both single and married folks. How much does one's faith play a part in how you respond in this situation? she says: When i was single, if you cheated on me, it was so long, see you, bye bye... However, being married is different. Biblically, god gives us permission to divorce in the case of infidelity. However, that is a CHoiCe, not the end all be all. i believe in repentance and forgiveness and trying to put the pieces back together to fulfill the vow/covenant that was made before god to stay together through the good, the bad, and the ugly. But if there is no repentance and commitment to not commit the offense again, there would be still be forgiveness, but the option to divorce would go into effect... He says: Not in my books it can’t. There would never be complete trust again. she says: it's a deal breaker for many. However, it can be forgiven by some. in that situation, moving forward often makes the relationship stronger in many areas but much weaker in others. Forgiven, yes. Forgotten, never! The trust level is rarely ever the same and a new level of insecurity remains on both sides. He says: There has to be some situations that would allow you to forgive--- Let's say your mate has been the perfect person for you for many, many years and had one moment of weakness-- Do you throw away years of wonderful for one night of stupid..?? He says: No, but it still wouldn’t be the same, would it? you would always have that underlying thought of could it happen again, true ? He says: i would forgive my wife if she cheated, but only if it was just sex. if she told me she had "FeeLLiNgS" for the guy i would probably move on with my life.... He says: Are we as men especially MeN --so concerned with who had her body that we could not get past that.. i agree Marcus D. Williams i could stand a person touching her body but could never stand someone else having touched her heart or crept into her mind -she says: She has a valid point often excused but to me you can't forgive or forget intention. How often is it considered before its pursued? Men ..most lack morals have little respect for commitment and walk with double standards. Their moments of weakness seem to be reoccurring illnesses. He says: i just couldn’t live with myself if i did something that to my wife, it would be like i have broken a sacred trust to her and my savior. god binds us together as one yoke Break that yoke and you have major problems! she says: i do know one thing, until you're faced with the decision, all you have is an opinion of what you assume you'd do. Quite often, the opinions and assumptions made prior to coming face to face with a situation, change drastically once you're staring it in the eye! page

she says: it’s a done deal for me because now you are lying and cheating putting me jeopardy and then you think i’m sorry helps? Take your sorry ass somewhere and leave me the hell alone! she says: i forgave my ex husband when he cheated on me. First i left coz i was so angry and hurt (i was two months pregnant with our 1st child) then i took him back because i wanted our son to grow up with his dad. i forgave and i forgot. 10 years later he did it again. i left for good that time. that was 13 years ago. And i forgave that too eventually. Now we can be cordial and civil with each other because we have a child together. i never took him back. i simply moved on. she says: What if you knew the individual lifestyle, before you become involved, do u think he/she will change suddenly for you? even if they cool out for a minute, they will go back to their old ways sooner or later. once a cheater always will no matter what. Been there. They will try but that’s about it. He says: To the guys, i would think that if your woman cheated she already had feelings for this person. To the Lady above, i take offense to the statement that most men lack morals when you don't know most men and furthermore what does that say about your moral fortitude if you hang around people/men in general that have moral issues since you know most men?? iJS she says: i think infidelity can be forgiven and you can move on from that, what most couples don't understand is that just because you say you're sorry means nothing!! you must put into actions your sorry and earn his/her trust again. That doesn't mean that we won't have doubts at times but we both have to be willing to put in work. No relationship is perfect as is no person. BUT DoN'T Be No FooL TWiCe!!! she says: For all you strong men, please don’t take offense, but most times you are assess and women don’t get that if we stop dogging men out then maybe infidelity might be on the decline. He says: Here is the deal-women cheat because of neglect from their significant other be it emotional or physical in nature. With men- it stems from esteem and power. if you look real close men that have had limited experience with women who achieve a certain amount of power......you get the picture. And Michael Baisden's book " How and Why Men Cheat"......is waaay off base she says: it’s a ego thing. Forgiven, but there is always going to be doubt. once, not bad but twice and more? Forget it. it’s on; bye bye boo. See ya! A man do what you allow him to do to you and it works both ways. Some women know that their husband or significant other is messing around and they just pretend it’s ok. she says: i say just cut off his appendage and call it a day. Next...... Lol

Top 10 One-Hit Wonders of Rap
Top Ten Lists Featuring African Americans debut album of the same name. The track peaked at #13 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart. The song was nominated for Best Rap Solo performance at the 1996 grammy Awards, but lost to Coolio for his song “gangsta’s paradise.”
This top ten list features the top 10 one-hit wonders of rap & hip-hop. A one-hit wonder is a recording artist who has a big hit, but fails to achieve another successful recording, or is just never heard from again. The criteria for making this list was based on (a), the artist being a onewonder (b), record sales, (c), grammy Award recognition, and (d), how well the artist did on the R&B and pop charts. in other words, the bigger the hit, the higher the artist ranked. one final note, i’ve included youtube videos of the top 10 as an aid to help you recall & enjoy the hits of the artists. But i must warn you that even though the videos of artists 9 & 10 are the clean versions, their videos still contain suggestive content, especially #9. So, having said that, it’s time to let the top 10 debate begin.
5. young MC – “Bust a Move”
10. afroman – “because I Got High” Candell Manson known by his stage name

Dacia Y. Kings - God Given Talent D2K
Featuring African Americans
acia grew up in Allen, Texas, where she obtained her primary and intermediate school education. in the fall 2007, Dacia attended Booker T. Washington High School for the Visual and performing Arts in Dallas, Texas, where she joined her brother James, a fellow musician (drummer). early in life, many recognized Dacia’s gift to sing. Throughout her preteen years, Dacia utilized her gift by singing praises to god in the children and youth music ministries at her church. She has also taken lessons in violin and piano to add to her talents. Though extremely fond of gospel music, Dacia developed a strong fondness of Jazz, particularly the vocal styles of Sarah Vaughn, ella Fitzgerald, kurt elling and several others. Throughout high school, she participated in the Varsity Classical Choir, Jazz Singers, Meister Singers, Musical Theater, the Black Academy of Arts and Letters, pop ensemble and the gospel Trio. Dacia’s wide range of musical involvement
afforded her the opportunity to sing for Diana Ross, Queen Latifah, and many others. She also has participated in the NAACp ACT-So program. in the fall 2010, Dacia reached a pinnacle in her musical experiences when world-renowned composer and conductor Marvin Hamlisch selected her to perform with the Dallas Symphony orchestra at the Myerson Symphony Hall, in his tribute to the music of george and ira gershwin. Her father, James kings, Sr., accompanied her as she auditioned with “Someone to Watch over Me,” totally unaware of Mr. Hamlisch’s celebrity status or the upcoming tribute. During the show, Dacia dedicated the performance of the song to the memory of her best friend, her brother James Dante kings, who passed away on 28 March in 2008. Dacia is currently enrolled in the New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music University located in greenwich Village area of New york City, New york. She is majoring in music and later plans to pursue a medical curriculum.
Dacia gives credit first to god for bestowing a voice upon her for music, then to both of her parents for their continued support of her dreams and goals. Dacia is also thankful to her high school choir instructor, gloria Stephens, and her brother’s former percussion instructor, Bart Marantz, for their dedicated support, understanding and mentorship. She especially thanks Ms. Stephens and Mr. Marantz for their encouragement to finish the high school curriculum in the now three-year wake of her tragedy. Dacia and her parents are thankful to those who believe in her and give her the chance to “shine” through her god-given talent.
