PROJECT:

SEAMLESS

Situated in Canada and crafted in collaboration with IREDALE Architecture and Rockridge Fine Homes, ‘Seamless’ by La Scala transforms a once sleepy neighborhood into a finely tuned ensemble of domestic bliss and technological sophistication. The homeowner, serving as the interior designer, infused the residence with a personal touch that speaks volumes of the intricacies involved in creating a home where every element is thoughtfully interconnected.

The living room, anchored by a striking stone fireplace and enhanced by artistic lighting, exemplifies the project’s commitment to combining aesthetic beauty with advanced functionality.

The primary bedroom showcases elegant design and thoughtful lighting, highlighting the seamless integration of modern technology and natural materials.

Rejecting numerous overtures from developers, the client waited for the perfect opportunity to combine two lots into a sprawling one-acre estate, thus crafting a retirement sanctuary complete with a social kitchen, media room, and a sports court set 230 feet (70 meters) away. La Scala’s execution pivots on the principle that optimal functionality arises not from excess but from precision. By reducing the planned 20 audio zones down to eight, reflecting actual usage, the project highlights the virtue of restraint and the importance of tailoring technology to fit daily life.

This bespoke approach to smart home technology extends beyond the confines of the house. The design team, including landscape architect Paul Sangha, electrician Kuban Electric, and Crocus Landscaping, created an exterior as compelling as the interior.

Enhanced by strategic lighting and user-friendly controls for outdoor amenities, the grounds invite as much activity and enjoyment as the indoor spaces. Every element of the project, from the hand-drafted lighting plans to the thorough testing of each fixture, underscores a commitment to flawless execution.

Inside, the vision for a seamless living environment was literally embedded in the fabric of the house. Technologies vanish into the architecture through recessed, flush-mounted panels and bezel-less grilles, fulfilling the homeowner’s directive for an unobtrusive yet highly functional living space. The integration of technology was so nuanced that even the most utilitarian devices blend invisibly into their surroundings, underscored by the Samsung Art Frame TV that sits flush against the living room wall, framed to complement the décor.

La Scala’s execution pivots on the principle that optimal functionality arises not from

excess but from precision.

The state-of-the-art media room features plush seating and a high-definition projection system, creating an immersive entertainment experience within the comforts of home.

The conclusion to this architectural saga is not merely about the successful integration of advanced home technology. It is about crafting an environment where technology serves not just as a tool, but as an invisible force that enhances lifestyle without asserting its presence. The ‘Seamless’ project serves as a blueprint for future homes where the interplay between architectural form, interior elegance, and technological ease creates a symphony of living space that resonates with the ethos of modern living.

PROJECT:

CHÂTEAU RÊVE

Château Rêve, brought to life by the integrative prowess of Maxicon, stands as a testament to the synergy between technology and design, representing a modern Floridian marvel. Over seven years in the making, this ambitious project saw a collaboration of notable experts including architect Enrique Feldman, lighting designer Ailyn Bandel, and interior designer Alejandro Barrios. Their combined vision created a space where modernity, art, and nature are flawlessly intertwined, fulfilling the client’s desire for a home that epitomizes both aesthetic elegance and technological sophistication.

A key feature of Château Rêve is the seamless flow between indoor and outdoor spaces. This fluid transition is enhanced by sound and light, with discreet outdoor speakers from Coastal Source providing high-quality audio without disrupting the visual landscape. Inside, the custom Leon Speaker soundbar aligns perfectly with the TV’s specific measurements, ensuring aesthetic coherence while delivering superior sound quality.

One of the most innovative aspects of this project is the integration of an infinity pool with a state-of-the-art underwater sound system. This allows for an exceptional auditory experience, transforming the pool area into an immersive sound environment. Complementing this are the Coastal Source loudspeakers integrated into the garden and patio areas, ensuring that outdoor entertaining is accompanied by high-quality audio. Indoors, Origin Acoustics in-ceiling speakers provide a seamless listening experience throughout the home, maintaining audio continuity from room to room.

Château Rêve was conceived with a clear vision: to create a living space that is not only functional but also transcendent in its design. The client placed a high value on vibrant natural lighting and a versatile lighting system, leading to the specification of a comprehensive Lutron lighting system. This system was meticulously designed to highlight the extensive art collection adorning the residence, ensuring each piece is showcased to its fullest potential. The Lutron system’s ability to manage multiple layers and scenes of lighting allows for tailored ambiance in every room, whether it’s a bright, welcoming environment or a subdued, intimate setting.

The media room in Château Rêve exemplifies the integration of technology without compromising aesthetics. Here, the brief was to conceal all technological elements behind non-intrusive acoustic designs. The result is a space that offers an immersive audio-visual experience while maintaining the room’s visual appeal. This balance of functionality and design is further exemplified by the house-wide music system, controlled effortlessly through the user-friendly Savant control system.

Lighting also plays a critical role in enhancing the home’s art collection. Adjustable lighting temperatures are specifically designed to showcase and enhance each piece, with the Lutron lighting system offering comprehensive control. This tailored approach ensures that every artwork is highlighted to its best effect, creating a dynamic visual experience for residents and guests alike.

The vibrant living area of Château Rêve is bathed in natural light, featuring an extensive art collection and luxurious furnishings by Alejandro Barrios Interior Design, creating an inviting and dynamic space.

Durability was another crucial factor for the client, particularly for outdoor technology. All outdoor speakers and lighting systems were chosen for their ability to withstand varying weather conditions, ensuring longevity and consistent performance regardless of environmental factors. This consideration underscores the meticulous planning that went into every aspect of Château Rêve, ensuring that both form and function are preserved over time.

Today, Château Rêve stands as a pinnacle of integrated modern design, where technology enhances rather than detracts from the living experience. The collaboration of Maxicon with acoustic consultant Sergio Molho from WSDG and other esteemed partners resulted in a home that exceeds expectations, providing effortless daily living in an environment where every detail has been thoughtfully considered.

The media room at Château Rêve, designed to hide all technological elements, provides an immersive audio-visual experience while maintaining a visually appealing environment adorned with an eclectic collection of art and artifacts.

The expansive outdoor living area of Château Rêve seamlessly connects with the interior spaces, featuring comfortable seating and a dining area, perfect for hosting and entertaining.

FINALIST – EXCELLENCE IN LIGHTING

LIGHTING UP THE LAGOON PROJECT:

In the realm of luxury home construction, there are projects that push the boundaries of design, technology, and integration. One such project, Lighting Up The Lagoon, stands as a testament to what can be achieved when a visionary developer collaborates with an integrative technology firm like ETC Palm Beach. Located in a beautiful coastal setting in Florida, USA, this home not only meets the highest standards of luxury living but also showcases the seamless integration of smart home technology.

is home meets both the highest standards of luxury living and also showcases seamless smart home technology integration.

An elegant home o ce with integrated smart technology, providing a serene workspace that combines sophistication and connectivity.

The open-concept living area o ers a perfect blend of comfort and advanced smart home features, ensuring both relaxation and high-tech convenience.

From the outset, the developer, a long-time client of ETC, had a clear vision: to create an extraordinary home that not only stood out for its beauty and attention to detail but also incorporated cutting-edge technology that would be future-proof. This ambitious goal required meticulous planning, innovative solutions, and flawless execution. ETC rose to the challenge, bringing together a variety of smart home technologies within a cohesive design that met the aesthetic and functional demands of the project.

One of the critical aspects of this project was its emphasis on creating a home that was not just technologically advanced but also user-friendly and aesthetically pleasing. The developer wanted a space where the technology was unobtrusive, allowing the home’s design and natural beauty to take center stage. This meant hiding the technological installations so effectively that guests would be unaware of the extensive smart systems in place. To achieve this, ETC recommended and installed invisible speakers that blanket the home in music without any visible hardware, and unique landscape lighting solutions that highlight the waterfront location, creating dramatic visual effects.

Collaboration with the builder, Aquantis Group, was crucial in integrating these systems seamlessly into the home’s architecture and interior design. One of the standout features of this project is the extensive use of automated window treatments. With many floor-to-ceiling windows, including a challenging 25-foot-tall window in the living room, the installation required precision and innovation. The primary bedroom posed another significant challenge with dual treatments on windows that cover three sides of the room. These window treatments, designed to disappear when not in use, required custom solutions to ensure they were both functional and hidden from view.

Security was another critical component of the project. The home is equipped with advanced security measures, including perimeter security beams that cover both the east and south sides of the property. If someone enters the property

The vibrant lighting design enhances the luxurious exterior, transforming the waterfront home into a captivating evening retreat.

from the intracoastal waters, the alarm system triggers a voice announcement warning the intruder and notifying the homeowner that the police are being called. This level of security ensures peace of mind for the residents while maintaining the unobtrusive aesthetic of the home.

The technological backbone of the home is a Control4 automation system, chosen for its ability to integrate seamlessly with other systems and provide a user-friendly interface. This system serves as the hub, coordinating the Elk security system, Lutron lighting control, Lutron shades, Coastal Source landscape lighting, Stealth Acoustics hidden speakers, and more. By centralizing control, ETC created a turnkey solution that simplifies the user experience while offering extensive customization options for future owners.

One of the key achievements of this project was its forward-looking approach. ETC ensured that the home was not just equipped with the latest technology but was also prepared for future advancements. This meant installing additional connections for future audio

In the heart of Guatemala, a country marked by its rich cultural heritage and contrasting economic realities, the Cristiani Residence Home Cinema emerges as a luxurious sanctuary that marries state-of-the-art technology with bespoke design. Spearheaded by the distinguished local integrator AKTIVA, this project is a vivid illustration of how personalized entertainment and cutting-edge home technology are shaping the living spaces of today.

The journey that ensued was one of meticulous collaboration, with a focus on achieving an intimate understanding of the client’s desires and expectations. This initiative not only sought to fulfill a personal dream but also to set a new benchmark for private home cinemas in the region, reflecting a growing trend towards sophisticated and integrated home environments.

From the outset, AKTIVA’s approach was comprehensive and client-focused. The initial advisory sessions were designed to understand the client’s desires and translate them into a tangible plan. This involved multiple meetings where various elements were discussed in detail: screen size, type of projector, seat distribution, number and

Elegant and comfortable seating in the Cristiani Residence Home Cinema, arranged to provide a premium viewing experience, reflecting the sophisticated design by

placement of loudspeakers, and the necessary equipment for optimal functionality.

Given the client’s limited experience with such installations, the budget was initially undefined. AKTIVA proposed various systems, carefully balancing cost and performance to arrive at the most suitable option. This iterative process ensured that every decision was informed and aligned with the client’s vision and financial comfort.

Technical precision was paramount in this project. The room’s dimensions and furniture placement guided the measurement calculations, ensuring optimal acoustics and visual comfort. AKTIVA’s expertise in thermal management and power distribution was critical in designing a space that was not only functional but also sustainable. The equipment rack was strategically positioned to maintain efficient thermal regulation, a detail often overlooked but crucial for the longevity and performance of high-end audio-visual systems.

Aesthetic and user comfort were equally prioritized. The client sought a space that was visually pleasing and intuitive to use. The result was a home cinema that embodies elegance and simplicity, a sanctuary for immersive entertainment. The choice of materials for acoustic treatment, lighting design, and control systems was carefully curated to enhance both the sensory and functional experience.

AKTIVA

In the broader context of Guatemala, the Cristiani Residence Home Cinema stands out not just as a technological triumph but as proof of the remarkable capabilities within the nation. This project showcases the high potential for sophisticated, world-class installations that can be achieved even in emerging markets. The success of this home cinema underscores a broader trend: in Guatemala, the future of integrated and luxurious living spaces is bright and full of possibilities, driven by the collaborative spirit of skilled professionals from various disciplines.

PROJECT:

OUTDOOR OASIS

In Pennsylvania, USA, a bold vision has transformed a steep embankment into a sanctuary of relaxation and social connection. The project, known as Outdoor Oasis, unfolds as an intricate dance of light and design, deftly orchestrated by Residential Media Systems (RMS), the local integrator renowned for its mastery of smart home systems. This remarkable outdoor retreat, designed with precision and flair, stands as an exemplar of how thoughtful integration can elevate a space beyond its physical constraints.

is project exempli es how integration of technology and design can harmonize with the natural environment to create a space that is both functional and enchanting.

This captivating outdoor living space, with its vibrant pool and cozy fire pit, o ers a perfect retreat for relaxation and socializing. The intricate lighting design seamlessly integrates with the natural surroundings, enhancing the overall ambiance.

At night, the Outdoor Oasis transforms into a magical retreat, with vibrant lighting illuminating the pool, spa, and various seating areas. This carefully crafted environment, created by RMS, Encore Renovations, and Rineer Designs, o ers a perfect blend of luxury and tranquility.

The client sought to create a multifaceted environment where she, her family, and their guests could escape the pressures of daily life. The challenge was to craft an outdoor haven that not only offered privacy and seclusion but also accommodated a diverse array of activities. The solution lay in harnessing the natural contours of the steep embankment, which provided the ideal backdrop for this ambitious undertaking.

Encore Renovations, the builder behind this project, skillfully navigated the complexities of the site, while Rineer Designs, the interior designer, brought an astute sensibility to the aesthetic and functional needs of the space. Together, they ensured that every element, from the lush planting beds to the carefully curated hardscaping, seamlessly blended with the innovative lighting system that RMS installed.

The lighting design is a testament to both elegance and functionality.

By employing a blend of electric and gas lighting, RMS created a rich tapestry of illumination that guides the eye through the expansive grounds without overwhelming the senses. The interplay of light, carefully layered and controlled, highlights the lush greenery and architectural features while maintaining an understated grace.

Central to this design is the Lutron HomeWorks QSX system, an expansion of the original setup installed in the property in 2018. Remarkably, the new system integrates without requiring the removal of existing components, illustrating RMS’s adeptness in extending functionality while preserving the integrity of the initial installation. This expansion accommodates the nuanced needs of the outdoor space, which is divided into four distinct zones, each illuminated by multiple layers of light.

The complexity of this project is evident in the subtlety of its solutions. Some lighting effects are governed by

astronomical timeclock events, responding to the natural rhythms of sunset and sunrise. For day-to-day control, strategically positioned Lutron wired keypads offer intuitive scene management. The simplicity of an ‘Outdoor Off ’ button, which shuts down the entire space including audio-visual components, underscores the sophisticated yet user-friendly approach taken by RMS.

Attention to detail is apparent in the custom-fabricated elements of the design. The railing, illuminated by outdoorrated linear LED lighting, required the precise installation of approximately 800 clips to support the lighting. Similarly, the RAB tree canopy up-lighting, designed to enhance the natural beauty of the landscape, was equipped with custom glare shields to prevent light pollution from disturbing neighboring homes.

This project exemplifies how integration of technology and design can harmonize with the natural environment to create a space that is both functional and enchanting. Through meticulous planning and innovative solutions, the Outdoor Oasis emerges not just as a physical space but as a refined experience, offering a tranquil escape and a venue for joyful gatherings.

MENLO INTEGRATED HOME

In a quiet corner of Maryland, USA, an extraordinary tale of resilience and innovation unfolded, culminating in the Menlo Integrated Home. Crafted by the adept hands of integrator SmartTouchUSA, this 12,000 square-foot residence is not just a home but a testament to what happens when cutting-edge technology meets unwavering client trust and collaboration.

e Menlo Integrated Home is a symphony of top-tier products and expert craftsmanship.

The story of this project began over four years ago when SmartTouchUSA first met the clients – a remarkable couple with a young child. Their vision was clear: a home where technology would not only function seamlessly but also enhance their living experience without overshadowing the natural beauty of their surroundings. From the outset, the couple’s enthusiasm and flexibility allowed the integrator to explore innovative solutions, transforming challenges into opportunities.

Working closely with the clients, SmartTouchUSA

ensured that every detail aligned with their aspirations. The outdoor spaces, featuring an integrated audio system, blend harmoniously with the lush landscaping, pool, and cabana area, creating a serene and inviting environment. The objective was to ensure that technology, while omnipresent, remained unobtrusive – a goal achieved with finesse and precision.

However, the journey was not without its hurdles. The project was plagued by a less-than-stellar performance from the initial builder, extending the timeline significantly. Despite these setbacks,

A sleek, minimalist wall-mounted TV setup demonstrates the seamless integration of advanced technology into the home’s modern aesthetic.
The bright and airy living room features cuttingedge technology that complements the stylish and contemporary interior design.

SmartTouchUSA’s commitment never wavered. Their assurance to the clients was steadfast, navigating through the builder’s inexperience with poise and determination. Even as the world grappled with the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, SmartTouchUSA’s adaptability shone through. Supply chain disruptions forced a pivot from Crestron to Lutron for lighting and shading products, a transition managed seamlessly to maintain the project’s momentum.

The Menlo Integrated Home is a symphony of top-tier products and expert craftsmanship. SmartTouchUSA collaborated with industry leaders like JBL, Officina Acoustica, CINEAK, and Hill RESI to deliver unparalleled audio and visual experiences. The theater, a focal point of the home, features an engineered wall system from Officina Acustica, ensuring impeccable acoustics and an immersive cinematic experience. This aspect of the project particularly highlights SmartTouchUSA’s ability to innovate under constraints, as they had to navigate budget limitations imposed by the builder.

A key aspect of the home’s technology is its intuitive control system. Voice control, integrated into the Crestron Home platform, offers the clients simplicity and ease of use. By focusing on lighting, shading, and whole-house commands, SmartTouchUSA avoided overwhelming the clients, particularly balancing the techsavvy nature of the husband with the more

conservative approach of the wife. This careful consideration ensured that the system was not only functional but also user-friendly. The project’s success is a testament to the collaborative spirit between the clients and SmartTouchUSA. Their relationship was built on mutual respect and a shared vision, allowing for flexibility and upgrades as the project evolved. The clients’ decision to enhance certain subsystems midway through the project underscored their commitment to achieving the best possible outcome. This adaptability, combined with SmartTouchUSA’s expertise, resulted in a home that exceeded all expectations.

One of the most poignant moments in the project was the final demonstration of the system. The husband, often away due to travel, had not experienced the installation process firsthand. His reaction to the completed system, particularly the movie theater and outdoor speakers, was overwhelmingly positive, culminating in a tearful expression of gratitude. It was a powerful reminder of the impact of their work – a validation of the long hours and dedication poured into the project.

PROJECT:

CELL FRAME HOUSE

What would happen if you let your children co-author the development of your home? One client did just that, having the courage to explore the myriad ways in which their site could be used and loved by all family members. The result is the Cell Frame House, designed by Measured Architecture and brought to life by Vanglo Building. This project, located in the British Columbia region of Canada, showcases the innovative work of La Scala, who, along with partners like Husky Alarm, transformed this vision into a reality.

The Cell Frame House is a true manifestation of a client’s needs and desires. By involving their children in its creation, the clients were able to incorporate elements of play that resonate with the whole family, making their environment more livable, inclusive, and fun. The family’s engagement with various technical trades from the early stages enabled the development of a coherent control plan for the property. The clients’ trust in home automation was pivotal, especially during a challenging period in architectural history marked by equipment supply issues, sustainability pressures, and economic uncertainty.

This house is a play structure designed for everyday living, where children and adults can live and play freely. Walls are designed to take a beating, suspended trapeze netting can be lounged in or traversed from room to room, and kinetic elements transform spaces to maximize different uses, as well as levels of openness and privacy. The technology

had to be robust, serviceable, and generally hidden from this dynamic home environment. For instance, the media room is designed to be completely invisible, motorized drapes and curtains can split rooms, and most systems are motorized so even young children can operate shades and pool covers without assistance.

At the heart of the house is a compact kitchen and dining area, alongside a small living room. An observer looking in through the window would never guess that the home is a high-performing, energy-efficient smart home. On the second floor, trapeze netting connects the children’s bedrooms, replacing a traditional hallway. The master bedroom features linen curtains that can be drawn to create a private sleeping area or to provide privacy when guests are brought through the bedroom to the rooftop. This top floor, with its numerous windows, required careful management of heat through motorized shading schedules.

In the basement, a small recording studio, audio-visual space, and workout area lead to an exterior workout zone. The laneway houses a primary bedroom and office area, fully set up on its own private virtual local area network

The serene living room, bathed in natural light filtered through motorized shades, showcases a blend of comfort and contemporary design.

(VLAN), with a kinetic wall that transforms the space into a bunk bed sleeping zone. An atypical subterranean level contains a small kitchen and dining area. When guests leave the laneway and the clients emerge from their doors, everyone meets in the middle, where there is seating for five around an urban fire-pit, and everyone gets to enjoy the garden sound system.

The lighting at Cell Frame House was strategically designed, integrating Crestron universal lighting dimmers to streamline both interior and exterior circuits and minimize bulky devices with sleek Crestron Horizon keypads. Power outlets were also adapted to this minimalist format. A budget-friendly 4.1.2 Dolby Atmos theater, featuring a JVC laser projector and a Dragonfly flush trapdoor screen, creates a hidden cinematic experience, controlled by a Crestron TSR-310 remote for added convenience.

Later in the project, heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) integration included fitting radiant loops with a Crestron controller and manual thermostats in the children’s rooms, enhancing energy management towards net zero goals.

The creation of the Cell Frame House demonstrates the potential of integrating innovative design with advanced technology. This project redefines Canadian family-centric living by incorporating adaptable spaces that cater to both comfort and creativity. Through automated features and thoughtful design, the house stands as a seamless blend of functionality and personalization, proving that technology can significantly enhance our living environments.

PROJECT: MCGREGOR SQUARE SMART PENTHOUSE

In the bustling heart of Denver, Colorado, the McGregor Square Smart Home exemplifies modern luxury, showcasing how advanced technology can integrate seamlessly with sophisticated design. Developed by Logic Integration and elegantly appointed by Colin Gri th of Gri th Interior Design, this penthouse transforms urban living. Here, aesthetics and functionality converge, with features like concealed TVs and automated shades that not only enhance the space but also streamline high-tech living. This project exemplifies the integration of smart home capabilities with daily comfort and style. McGregor Square isn’t just a residence; it represents the future of sophisticated, technology-enhanced living.

One of the primary challenges faced by Logic Integration was the management of natural light within the penthouse. The abundance of windows, while providing stunning views and an open, airy feel, posed significant difficulties in controlling light and maintaining privacy. This was particularly complex given the high placement of some windows, which required innovative shading solutions. The integrator employed motorized shades that blend into the architecture when not in use, preserving the penthouse’s sleek lines and ensuring unobstructed views while allowing for precise control of natural light and privacy.

Comfort and privacy were central to the design goals, reflecting the client’s lifestyle needs and the urban setting of the penthouse. The integrated systems allowed for flexible, easily adjustable solutions to shape the interior environment in response to changing external conditions. By using products from brands such as Snap One, Screen Innovations, and Future Automation, Logic Integration ensured that the technology not only performed optimally but also complemented the interior’s color scheme and textures. The use of invisible speakers, recessed lighting, and customized control

panels that matched wall finishes demonstrated a commitment to unobtrusively embedding technology within the home.

Personalization is synonymous with luxury, and the McGregor Square Smart Home exemplifies this through tailored technology solutions. The integrator designed programmable scenes that adjust lighting, climate, and entertainment systems with a single touch, offering a deeply personalized user experience. The system’s intelligent design allows it to learn from the owners’ habits, making suggestions for adjustments to lighting and temperature that enhance comfort and efficiency. This level of customization ensures that the technological enhancements are not just functional but are also attuned to the unique preferences of the penthouse’s residents.

A unified control system lies at the heart of this smart home experience, consolidating management of lighting, shades, audio, video, climate, and security systems into a single, intuitive interface. CASA TCC

Few projects in architecture and design manage to blend artistry, technology, and personal significance as seamlessly as Casa TCC.

Located on the shores of Cancún, Mexico, this beachfront property embodies the life’s work and achievements of its owner, who sees the home not just as a living space but as a lasting gift for his family. Grupo MAi, the integrator behind this architectural masterpiece, has crafted not merely a landmark in sophisticated home integration.

Casa TCC is more than just a home; it is a symphony of design, technology, and personal legacy.

Javier Fernandez from 1975 Arquitectos, the architect tasked with bringing Casa TCC to life, was given a challenging brief. The house, covering more than 32,000 square-feet (3,000 square-meters), had to epitomize elegance intertwined with cuttingedge technology. With a budget that prioritized quality without unnecessary extravagance, every facet of the project demanded the involvement of top experts in their respective fields. Interior designer Rodango played a crucial role in translating the client’s vision into tangible reality, ensuring that every corner of the home exudes sophistication and warmth.

The integration of technology into Casa TCC was no small feat. Grupo MAi coordinated the electrical, audio, video, and lighting specifications, designs, and installations with precision, ensuring seamless functionality and ease of maintenance. Lutron, Savant, Nexia, iGuzzini, Community, Nexo, Rotel, and Sonance were among the

key partners whose products and solutions were integral to achieving the desired outcome.

One of the primary objectives was to make the house not only a work of art but also a haven of comfort and convenience for its residents, including the staff. This meant that the lighting had to accentuate the architecture and interior design while being user-friendly. High color rendering index (CRI) fixtures were chosen for their ability to render colors accurately, creating a vibrant and inviting atmosphere. The lighting design incorporated light layering, cove lighting, and futuristic lines, with scenarios that could transform the ambiance of different areas at the touch of a button.

The client’s specific requests added layers of creativity and complexity to the project. For instance, fiber optic lighting was installed in the pool, spa, and cinema to resemble the ceiling of a

car he had recently purchased. This element, introduced late in the project, required meticulous coordination between the interior design team and the architect. The cinema’s ceiling design was particularly unique, with circles representing each family member and fiber optic arrangements depicting their zodiac signs.

The audio-visual design posed its own set of challenges, primarily concerning sound coverage and quality. Given the client’s love for hosting parties, the house needed versatile and high-performance sound systems. The roof garden features a top-tier sound system with DJ inputs, perfect for live performances. The game room, equipped with a highperformance sound system and a DMX driver integrated with LED strips, offers a nightclub-like experience with six different audio-rhythmic light scenes.

Security was another paramount concern. Despite being located in a monitored compound, the beachfront location and the presence of a large staff necessitated robust security measures. A CCTV system covers strategic areas of the house, accessible 24/7 via a control app. Access control keypads with facial recognition and biometrics ensure that only authorized individuals can enter the premises, with specific permissions for different staff members.

Casa TCC is more than just a home; it is a symphony of design, technology, and personal legacy. The collaboration between Grupo MAi, Javier Fernandez, and Rodango, has resulted in a residence that not only meets but exceeds the expectations of its owner.

The custom-designed home theater features fiber optic lighting that mimics a starry sky and high-end audio-visual equipment for an unparalleled cinematic experience.

OBSIDIAN HOUSE

Tucked away in the rugged terrain of the US state of Montana, the Obsidian House espouses rustic charm and high-tech sophistication. Designed by Patrick Johnson of Pearson Design Group and brought to life by builder Onsite Management, with interior finesse by Kali Wells from Eberlein Design Consultants, this project by home automation integrator SAV Digital Environments challenges traditional perceptions of a mountain retreat, integrating cutting-edge technology with a cozy, cabin-like ambiance.

In essence, the Obsidian House rede nes the concept of a luxury mountain retreat.

The living room exudes warmth and sophistication, anchored by a stunning stone fireplace.

The kitchen is a harmonious blend of rustic aesthetics and modern functionality, featuring reclaimed wood, stone elements, and state-of-the-art appliances. This space is a testament to the project’s commitment to merging traditional design with contemporary convenience.

The driving force behind the Obsidian House project was not merely to construct a functional space but to create an experience — a refined sanctuary that blends the serenity of its natural surroundings with the comforts of modern living. This goal posed unique challenges, particularly with the integration of technology in a way that would not disrupt the home’s aesthetic appeal. The solution was ingenious: speakers discreetly nestled within decorative hand-hewn ceiling timbers and seamless mud-in rings in plastered areas — each custom-fitted to ensure they blended imperceptibly with their surroundings. The pièce de résistance, however, was a custom art lift in the main sitting room that allowed for the television to vanish, maintaining the integrity of the space when not in use.

In crafting this luxurious ski chalet, the team prioritized not just aesthetic but also functional seamlessness. The technology installed needed to be as unobtrusive as it was intuitive,

enhancing the living experience without overwhelming it. Touch panels strategically placed throughout the home provide easy access to control systems, enabling simple management of the fireplace, entertainment systems, and more with just a touch. This approach extends to universal remotes, which allow for streamlined control over all integrated systems, thus enhancing functionality without compromising on style.

Yet, the Obsidian House is not just about luxury and aesthetic pleasure; it is also a fortress of safety. Advanced surveillance systems and life safety monitoring are deftly woven into the design, providing security against potential threats from unauthorized entry or even the wildlife that frequents Montana’s landscapes. This integration ensures that the tranquility of the home is matched by a strong sense of security and peace of mind for its occupants.

However, achieving this blend of

design and technology was not without its compromises. Departing from industry standards, the project demanded innovative thinking and meticulous coordination between the design and technology teams. The use of small aperture speakers and custom-built wood valences to conceal shades are prime examples of how technology was tailored to meet stringent aesthetic criteria without sacrificing performance.

In essence, the Obsidian House redefines the concept of a luxury mountain retreat. It stands as a stellar example of how technology can be seamlessly integrated into high-end architectural projects, challenging conventional norms and pushing the boundaries of what is possible in smart home technology. This project not only meets but exceeds client expectations, offering a visionary glimpse into the future of luxury living.

JUNE STREET MEDIA ROOM

Within the confines of a modest guest house, the June Street Media Room emerges as a masterclass in fusing cutting-edge technology and wellness-centered design. Orchestrated by Global Wave Integration with the aesthetic guidance of interior designer Sarah Shetter Design, this media room pushes the boundaries of what’s possible, o ering a sanctuary that nurtures both the mind and the cinematic experience.

e June Street Media Room project beautifully demonstrates the potential of smart home technology to create spaces that are as conducive to wellness as they are to entertainment.

The project faced a distinctive challenge: to transform a modest guest house into a Digital Cinema Initiatives (DCI)-compliant theater, offering not only first-run movies but also a professional-grade viewing experience. Beyond its function as a high-quality cinema, the space was envisioned as a venue for social gatherings, demanding an ambiance that rivals even the best commercial theaters. This ambition was further complicated by its proximity to a spa room, necessitating a delicate balance between advanced technological integration and the serene ethos of wellness spaces.

The choice to install Quantum Media Systems’ innovative video wall technology marked a pioneering moment for the project. Opting for this over traditional projector setups, Global Wave Integration leveraged the technology to overcome the spatial limitations of the guest house while ensuring top-tier video quality, adhering to the strict standards of DCI. This strategic decision was crucial in pushing the boundaries of the cinematic experience to exceptional

levels within such a confined space. The acoustic performance was meticulously engineered. By using plywood panels, fabric acoustic treatments, and insulation materials, the team significantly reduced reverberations and echoes, crafting a controlled audio environment that minimized distortions and maximized clarity. This careful tuning of the space ensured that its auditory quality matched the visual splendor of the video wall.

With space at a premium, every design decision was influenced by the constraints of the guest house. The low ceiling height demanded precise loudspeaker placement and innovative sound dispersion techniques to maintain the immersive audio experience. The presence of a glass side wall, featuring French doors, posed further acoustic and lighting challenges. The design team responded with specialized acoustic treatments and lightblocking solutions that preserved the cinematic quality while addressing the nuances introduced by the glass wall.

Featuring Quantum Media Systems’ groundbreaking video wall, the media room transforms the guest house into a DCI-compliant theater, o ering an immersive and professional-grade cinematic experience.
Meticulous acoustic treatments and innovative design solutions ensure that every element, from speaker placement to EMF mitigation, contributes to a wellness-focused, high-quality home cinema environment.

The technical setup also required thoughtful consideration, especially concerning the AV rack placement. Positioned within a built-out enclosure on an exterior wall, it was crucial to plan for effective ventilation, cable management, and maintenance accessibility. This approach not only ensured operational efficiency but also enhanced the overall aesthetic of the media room.

Aligning with the client’s focus on wellness, the project included contributions from Oram Miller, a building biologist, who provided expertise on electromagnetic field (EMF) mitigation. Proactive in addressing these concerns, the team prioritized a safe and healthy indoor environment, resonating with the project’s wellness-centered goals. The collective efforts of Global Wave Integration, Sarah Shetter Design, and partners such as Quantum

Media Systems, Myer Sound, Trinnov, and Crestron were instrumental in realizing this imaginative project. Each partner contributed their unique skills — from Myer Sound’s advanced audio solutions to Trinnov’s precise audio processing and Crestron’s sophisticated automation systems — creating a symphony of technology and design that not only meets but surpasses the standards of home cinema experiences.

The June Street Media Room project beautifully demonstrates the potential of smart home technology to create spaces that are as conducive to wellness as they are to entertainment. Global Wave Integration and its partners have set a new benchmark for what can be achieved in a compact, wellness-oriented space, providing an inspiring example of how technology can enhance modern living spaces.

PARK CITY HOME RETREAT

PROJECT: Transforming an existing garage into a dual-purpose space that seamlessly blends a high-performance home cinema and a state-of-the-art golf simulator is no small feat. Nerve Inc, a well-regarded integrator, achieved this remarkable transformation with their project, Park City Home Retreat, in the US state of Utah. The project involved a collaboration with architect Quest AI, builder RM Koemans, and interior designer Lisa Slayman of Slayman Cinema.

The journey began with an introduction through the client’s builder, RM Koemans, who was handling a renovation and a 5,000 square-foot addition to the client’s home. Initially, the client expressed interest in installing a golf simulator in an auxiliary barn. To explore options, he visited Nerve Inc’s dedicated cinema and simulator showroom. There, discussions spanned various simulator systems like Trackman, TruGolf, and Flightscope, as well as multi-sport options and iRacing setups. The client, captivated by the possibilities, was also introduced to the idea of a home theater, which he was initially hesitant about due to underutilization in a previous home.

Nerve Inc demonstrated its capabilities by showcasing a high-quality cinema experience, which included clips

from Ford vs. Ferrari and Lady Gaga performances on a Kaleidescape system. This demonstration left a strong impression, prompting the client to reconsider the potential of incorporating a theater room into his existing home or the new addition.

Nerve Inc proposed an innovative solution: converting the existing two-car garage into a combination room featuring both a cinema and a simulator. The challenge was to create a high-performance cinema with sophisticated acoustic and aesthetic designs, a task that required exceeding previous benchmarks. To inspire confidence, the team showcased a similar high-end combination room they had built previously, which the client found impressive.

A key feature was the room’s sophisticated dolly system, integrated into the carpet, which allowed even small children to move components smoothly and withstand the forces generated by D-box actuators in the front chairs. This robust and user-friendly design was crucial for the multifunctional space.

Collaborating closely with Lisa Slayman, Nerve Inc developed a visually stunning and elegant design. Despite its complexity, the client was enthusiastic, though visualizing the intricate design in their own space proved challenging. The tight timeline added pressure, with a Christmas deadline looming and family visits on the horizon. Both Nerve Inc and RM Koemans were committed to delivering the project on schedule, leveraging all available resources to meet the deadline.

Sound isolation was another critical aspect, given the shared attic space between the proposed theater and

other parts of the house. Consulting with Ted White from The Soundproofing Co., the team devised an effective sound isolation assembly. Following industry standards, Nerve Inc consulted with AV industry experts Adam Pelz and Gerry Lemay to maximize the capabilities of the Ascendo and Trinnov equipment.

The most significant challenge was meeting the client’s high expectations for the cinema experience, which required exceptional sound isolation, engineered acoustics, bespoke design, and top-tier picture and sound quality. This had to be balanced with a versatile multi-sport simulator environment capable of handling high-speed golf balls, soccer balls, baseballs, and even hockey practice.

The finished product exceeded expectations, becoming a favorite family spot and hosting memorable events like a Super Bowl party. The client’s satisfaction led to further projects, including another simulator in a barn area shared with a batting cage, enhancing the family’s entertainment options.

In the world of architecture and design, marrying aesthetics with cuttingedge technology can be a formidable challenge. When tasked with creating the ultimate high-end home theater, home automation integrator The Premier Group transformed an existing home in Indiana, USA, into a private cinematic haven, blending the University of Illinois Fighting Illini’s spirit with state-ofthe-art technology.

Architect Gary Nance Designs, builder Hoss Homes, and interior designer Amanda Lantz of A Lantz Design collaborated with The Premier Group to reimagine the home’s large finished basement. The client, who had significant experience with homebuilding and remodeling, desired more space and amenities after moving from a smaller house. Upon walking through the new house, it became apparent that the existing golf simulator was subpar and that the space would be better suited for a theater room due to its central location adjacent to the bottom of the stairs. The mechanical space was repurposed to house a new golf simulator and lounge.

The goal was to create a theater room that evoked the client’s fond memories of their hometown of Springfield, Illinois, complete with the University of Illinois Fighting Illini’s navy and orange color scheme. This required careful consideration to avoid a “cheap and cheesy” look, which was achieved thanks to Amanda Lantz’s excellent material selections. The end result was a classy and sophisticated space that truly excited the homeowner.

One of the critical aspects of this project was the client’s passion for audio. Though they struggled to articulate their desires, The Premier Group’s demo of the L-Acoustics audio system illuminated their vision. The client’s face lit up, signaling a perfect match. This high-quality audio setup was complemented by a traditional 7.1.4 speaker configuration, with left, center, and right speakers mounted behind a 2.35:1 acoustically transparent screen. Additionally, four 12" subwoofers were strategically placed across the width of the front wall beneath the screen, ensuring an immersive audio experience.

The project faced two significant challenges. Firstly, the theater room sat directly below the kitchen and great room, necessitating extensive soundproofing measures. The solution involved removing the drywall ceilings in the lower level, filling the joist bays with thick mineral fiber insulation, and incorporating C-channel and double layers of sheetrock. This comprehensive approach extended beyond the theater to adjacent spaces, significantly reducing sound transmission. The result was a remarkably tight

soundproofing system, with only faint sounds detectable in the kitchen above during concertlevel audio playback.

Secondly, the theater room was designed to open to a bar area at the back, introducing a complexity that required innovative design solutions. This openness meant ensuring a seamless integration of the spaces, both in terms of aesthetics and function, while maintaining the immersive audio-visual experience of the theater, despite its proximity to a potentially noisy bar environment.

Another element that significantly influenced the budget was the extensive use of linear LED lighting. The client requested fully redgreen-blue-white (RGBW) tunable lighting with independent control, creating a striking visual effect. Linear lights ran up both sides of the wall columns and across the ceiling, providing a seamless and hotspot-free illumination. Control of these lighting features was effortlessly managed through Control4’s DMX integration, layered on top of the Lutron Homeworks system. The Halo Touch remote and 10" Control4 touch panel ensured easy access to all system features, enhancing user experience.

The Premier Group’s transformation of this Indiana home into a no-compromise, Illinoisthemed home theater exemplifies the seamless fusion of high-end technology with evocative design. By tuning into the client’s desires and navigating architectural challenges, the team delivered an environment that’s both acoustically pristine and visually engaging.
