James

HOWARD 1957-2020

On March 22, 1957, James Elie Howard was welcomed to the world in Marshall, TX. He was the third child born under the union of Nearoup and Vernell Howard. Soon after his birth, the Howard family moved to Houston, TX where James grew up in the Kashmere Gardens area. James, affectionately known as “Spankum,” attended McDade Elementary, Key Middle School, and Kashmere High School, where he grew in popularity as a star football player for the mighty Kashmere Rams. His love for his alma mater never ceased after graduating; as a result, he became an active committee member of the Kashmere Alumni Association. As a child, he accepted Christ at a very young age and began his journey serving the Lord. James was a faithful member of Keller Springs Baptist Church in Dallas, TX where he was called to the ministry in 1996, and served under the leadership of Pastor Willie Jacobs. When a promotion landed him back in Houston, he became a member of Galilee Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of his brother-in-law, Pastor V.R. Jefferson. It was there that he decided to begin the spiritual journey of founding his own church. Family of Faith Fellowship Church held its first service on November 8, 2002 at the Brookhollow Sheraton in Northwest Houston. Under his leadership, he produced faithful members, deacons, and ministers and saved the lives of countless souls. He was selfless, lived to please God and tried to allow God to order his steps. He was a great example of a man that followed God, and there is no doubt his legacy followed him to Heaven. On March 14, 1981, he married the love of his life, Linda Jefferson. To this union, two children-Chelsea and Spencer, were born. James was a devoted family man who loved being actively involved in his children’s’ lives. James departed this life on Tuesday, July 14, 2020. He is preceded in death by his father Nearoup Howard, mother Vernell Howard, and brother Wayne Howard. He leaves to cherish his precious memory his wife Linda Howard, children; Chelsea Howard and Spencer Howard (Claire), along with his grandchildren Dylan “Beanie” Bowden and Aria Davis, whom he adored and loved to spend time with and was affectionately known as “Papa.” He also leaves behind countless relatives, friends, and coworkers whom were blessed to share beautiful memories of his life, and a special acknowledgement to Harold Caddie, James’ dialysis nurse.
