John Smith was born December 10, 1928 in Dimebox, Texas. He was born to the union of Eddie Smith Sr. and Sarah Clemons. He confessed Christ and at an early age. John was one of eight children. He attended school in Bryan, Texas and later moved to Houston, Texas at a young age where he joined the United States Army. He served and was honorably discharged. He began his career at Weingarten Inc., where he retired and later started his own janitorial business. John later met and married the love of his life, his beautiful wife of 61 years, Esther Faye. They had one daughter, Yolanda Smith Hall, who was the love of his life. He always had a passion for welcoming family, friends and children. His other passion was cooking barbeque and working in his yard. He loved his grandson Anthony Hall, who helped him with everything (his back bone). He leaves to share and cherish his memories and love: his wife, Esther Faye, daughter Yolanda Hall, two grandchildren, Rev. Lawrence Anthony Hall (Garnita), LaRanda Hall and three great grandchildren; Crystal, Christina and Daniel of Houston, Texas, one sister Mae Della Johnson of Dallas, Texas and a host of special devoted nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of relatives and friends. John is preceded in death by his parents, Eddie Smith, Sr. and Sarah Clemons, three sisters and two brothers.

ODE TO MY What a wonderful, magical surprise! Sometimes love arrives in disguise. I never saw this coming, Never anticipated such an awesome blessing. I was at the right place, When I spied your sweet, handsome face. It was at the right time, When you called me your goddess and I knew you were mine. My Angel, why did you have to fly so far away My Angel, just let one feather stay My Angel has flown away (My body is amortal, die I may, Together, our hearts will forever stay) Your Loving Wife,

Esther Faye

Words cannot express the way we feel about you Papa. We will miss you very deeply. You fought a long fight. Even with your sickness, you never stopped moving and you never gave up! Today, God saw that you were getting tired and needed rest, and we believe that you are in his presence. You’re not sick anymore and you can stand up and walk without any help. Thank you Papa for being our friend and we love you! P.S. Papa, we promise to take good care of Meme! Love your grandchildren,

Lauranda and Anthony
