UNIT 3 STAYING HEALTHY 3.1– PHYSICAL ACTIVITY. To stay healthy we need regular physical exercise. Exercise makes our bones and muscles strong. It also keeps us agile and flexible. It also stops us getting fat. Although our bones and muscles are very strong, we can still get injuries if we are not careful. We should:
Always warm up first.
Cool down and stretch after.
Wear a helmet or protective clothing if we do a sport like skating or cycling.
Sit, stand and walk with our backbone straight.
Try not to carry a lot of weight.
Bend our knees when we pick things up.
3.2 GETTING ENOUGH REST AND SLEEP After mental or physical activity, we feel tired. This is our body´s way of telling us it needs to rest and sleep. A good night´s sleep helps our body in various ways. When we sleep, our muscles and organs reduce their activity. Our body replenishes the energy we use when we are awake. The body repairs itself and becomes more resistant to disease. Children´s bodies grow more. Our brain remembers and stores what we have learnt. At your age, you should sleep for about nine hours.

Studying at home each day is a good thing. It helps you remember what you learnt at school and prepares you for exams.
In your free time, find a hobby you enjoy .
3.4 FRIENDSHIP. People are happier when they have friends to share experiences with. If we spend too much time alone we can feel lonely.
When we help others, we feel good. Being helpful to our friends, families and community makes us feel valued.
Sometimes we feel worried or sad. We must tell someone that we trust. If you share your problems, others can help you.
A conflict is when we argue or disagree with someone. This makes us upset or angry. It´s important to resolve conflicts and reach an agreement with the other person.
3.5 HOW MEDICINE HELP US. Recognizing the symptoms of illnesses helps us know when our body needs medicine or treatment. When a health problem is serious, we need an appointment with a health care professional like a doctor. Health care professionals These are doctors, nurses and people who make and sell medicines like pharmacists. They are specially trained to diagnose illnesses and prescribe medicine or recommend treatment. Some doctors are specialists in certain parts of the body.
