The C300 Estate Station wagon from Mercedes-Benz gained a new 2018 model with a more powerful engine. This vehicle has many assistance systems and its biggest feature is the automatic parking, the Parktronic. The 100% Motor team's test pilot, José Carlos Finardi, commented: “The motorization and the transmission of this car are spectacular. Mercedes-Benz surprised with power and the gear exchange is almost imperceptible”. It happens because the C300 has a 2.0 engine. This machine is capable of reaching 245 HP at 5500 rpm and 37,7 kgfm of torque at 1300 rpm. Besides, this car has turbo. Now, about the gear that Finardi mentioned to have a good performance, it is a 9G-TRONIC. It is automatic and has nine speeds. Moreover, this equipment has five conduction programs available: Confort, ECO, Sport and Sport+. The fifth option allows the driver to configure the vehicle according to his preferences. The manual or mechanical gear works with a gearing system and a lever. The driver selects the best gear according to vehicle’s conditions. Thus, speed and torque are chosen due to vehicle’s necessities. It means there’s consumption efficiency and depending on the

driver it can be more economic than a automatic transmission. Strength and speed multiplication happen due to the size of the gearing. Each one represents a speed which can be unlimited. However, for obvious reasons of space and simplicity the number is restrict to a conventional average. In this gear, the driver choses the desired speed by positioning a lever. For the clutch to happen, this equipment needs to be used at the same time as the gearing pedal. The function of this system is stopping engine’s torque and overcome the inertia generated by the gearing disc, entrance axle, counter axle and the corresponding gearing to the clutched gear.

AUTOMATIC GEAR Automatic transmission’s functionality The automatic gear works with a planetary gearing system. This ones, have different sizes, but are always clutched between each other. Thus, the system maintains engine rotation constant and the gear makes the switches automatically. A positive side to this kind of transmission is comfort. In automatic vehicles the driver only needs to accelerate. Moreover, soon everything will be automatic. Nevertheless, the torque convertor slides in this system, it does it to take the vehicle out of inertia, but it causes torque loss. Last year Audi released in Brazil the new A5. It has four versions, all equipped with the TFSI 2.0 engine. In the Attraction and Ambiente models the power reaches 190 HP and maximum torque is 320 Nm. The transmission counts with the S-Tronic gear with six speeds and forward traction. Moreover, the acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h takes 7.5 seconds and the maximum speed is even limited electronically to 239 km/h.
In the Ambition and Ambition Plus finishing the power reaches 252 HP and torque gets to 37 Nm. The transmission has the same gear from the other versions, but these model's traction is 4X4. With such differences, the car accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in six seconds and maximum speed is 250 km/h. The 100% Motor Team test pilot, José Carlos Finardi, commented: “Before opening the hood I could swear the car had six cylinders. However, in all models the engine has four. This impression happened because of the efficient torque and power relation“. Yet, the car counts with many driving assistances, which according to Finardi are great. It makes the car
firmer in curves and conduction comfortable. The brakes presented good performance and the stability control was clear in curves. Moreover, the acoustic package sealed external sounds very well and internal visibility didn’t let anything to be desired. This vehicle is almost perfect. The setbacks found by the 100% Motor team are too small to be mentioned. Even so, just so is doesn’t pass in black, the central rear passenger is the only one with compromised comfort. Only because of the cardan axle floor’s elevation. This piece is responsible for the 4x4 traction. Nothing can be done about it, but it is a small inconvenience that brings many benefits.
