Long stories short

August 2023

Stories that move us

Meet

Kendra Calendar

Housekeeper, Brooklyn Center

Kind, caring and thoughtful, she bought birthday gifts for her favorite resident and moved her to tears—of joy.

Meet

Marvalee Thomas

CNA, Boro Park Center

One of her patients had been estranged from her children for 20 years. Marvalee went above and beyond to reunite them— a mission from the heart.

Meet

Tiffany James

Dir. of Social Work, Holliswood Center

A resident thought she’d have to spend Thanksgiving alone...until Tiffany surprised her with a turkey dinner with all the fixings. That is the true meaning of Thanksgiving.

This is the care that moves us.

Kenny’s Corner

This is who we are. This is what we stand for.

Care that moves you. Those four words, that simple phrase, is a reflection of the very heart and soul of Centers Health Care. As a company, we are committed to providing the highest level of care. This is how we do it:

We invest in our facilities, in our people, and in our communities, always going the extra mile to improve the lives of those in our care.

That’s our mission. That’s our promise. That’s our core value.

News from the Centers

The King rules!

The King of Rock and Roll, Elvis, was in the house at Onondaga Center. The place was All Shook Up, tapping their feet to Return to Sender, Heartbreak Hotel, Blue Suede Shoes, and more. It rocked!

Picture perfect

Thee summer came to Glens Falls Center in a splash and dash of color as residents enjoyed an afternoon of watercolors. They celebrated a different kind of color— the red, white and blue—on July 4.

Jaws!

It was Shark Week at Triboro Center and a menacing (actually, he was kind of adorable) blow-up shark made the scene. There were also shark videos, shark art, and some shark jokes, as well.

Awesomeness!

Buffalo Center residents attended the Senior Summer Fun Picnic at the Delavan Grider Community Center. It was a huge success! They enjoyed a tasty BBQ along with a great game of Bingo, with prizes such as gift cards and a 63-inch smart TV. Now that’s how to kick off the season!

Cool!

The folks at Northern Metropolitan beat the heat—with an in-house ice cream parlor! Banana splits, ice cream sundaes, and plenty of multi-colored sprinkles were served to the happy customers.

Cool, Part 2

National Daiquiri Day was celebrated in style at New Paltz Center. The theme was a beach/pool party with watermelon daiquiris and an afternoon of music from the Bill and Wayne show.

A letter from the heart to Bronx Center

I am writing this letter on behalf of my family and I to thank Bronx Center for Rehabilitation and Nursing Home, the Doctors, Nurses, Nursing Assistants, Care Aides, Therapists and the entire medical team of professionals for their sincere, compassionate care and dedication to our 77-year-old mother, Adelina Rivera, during her time there at Bronx Center. My family felt so at ease as you cared for our mother during her brain cancer recovery therapy.

My mom was there from March 11th to June 1st, 2023, and she could not speak, walk nor eat on her own when she was admitted.

Nurse Singh, Nurse Ritnoff, Mrs. Bennett, on the 4th floor, Dr. Koshy, Speech Therapist Michelle, all the Physical Therapists and Evelyn Cruz in recreational all cared for our Mother, and the compassion and care they all showed was remarkable. We were very fortunate and so thankful. Our mother is now home continuing her recovery from brain cancer and speaking, eating, laughing and walking with her family. Each day is full of joy: We are blessed as she gets stronger each day.

Thank you to all. Please share our letter with your Staff. Our hearts go out to all of them.

So thankfully yours, The Rivera Family
