New York State Governor Andrew Cuomo announces Brooklyn Center Covid-19 partnership

New York State officials announced that the Brooklyn Center for Rehabilitation and Healthcare is serving as a temporary hospital with a capacity of up to 600 beds. Centers Health Care has taken a leading role in New York City’s fight against COVID 19. Centers had planned to move into its

state-of-the-art Brooklyn Center, with its leading-edge healthcare technology, this Spring. But instead has put the facility at the forefront of the battle, easing the city’s burden, while helping to care for patients and save lives. Centers Health Care stands with the city at this difficult and challenging time.

Centers Heroes stand up to Covid-19 We are at war, and all of us here at Centers Health Care are on the frontlines. The enemy is invisible but insidious, its terrible effects evident around the world. COVID-19 presents the greatest challenge to our healthcare system that we are ever likely to face in our lifetimes. But I am confident that we as a company—and a country—will get through this, and get stronger in the process.

I understand that you might be feeling some anxiety—we all feel it. But I have also seen firsthand your courage and dedication in the face of it. Because courage is not the absence of fear—it is the determination to stand up to the enemy in spite of your fears. At Centers Health Care, we are committed to safeguarding our staff, our residents and our patients. There is nothing more important than your health and well-being.

If you have issues, questions or concerns, I encourage you to speak to your supervisor or administrator. We’re in this together, and we’ll stand up together. Overcoming challenges is what we do—it defines us as healthcare providers. It’s our strength: It always has been and it always will be.

On the Wings of an Angel

The headline in the Post-Star says it all: Stranded without food, woman finds an angel to help.

The angel is Pam Bowe, community liaison for Centers Health Care. Washington Center contacted Pam about the stranded women, and Pam immediately went into action, delivering food to her!

Top of the Morning!

St. Patrick’s Day is celebrated at Centers facilities everywhere. Cooperstown Center enjoyed a day of Irish music, corned beef and cabbage, and ice cream. Thanks to all the leprechauns in the activities department and kitchen!

The Easter Bunny made an appearance at Ontario Center—along with fun, creative Easter bags and plenty of Easter candy. It’s a sure sign that Spring has arrived and that warmer days are ahead.

Nadira Pokhoy Occupational Therapist, University Center I’ve always wanted to make a difference—to do some good in the world. But at times I’ve struggled with that. I mean, how much can I do? I read about these real-life heroes. The airline pilot who lands his passenger jet on the Hudson River. The firefighter who pulls a child out of the fire. The first responders who save lives every day. They seem bigger than life.

But early on in my career at University Center, a woman, named Clara, was discharged from the hospital and brought here. Clara had suffered a stroke; she couldn’t walk or talk well, and she had lost all feeling in her right side. Together with the full University Center team, we developed a program—therapy, diet, recreational activities—designed specifically for her. I started working with her immediately. It was hard, slow work, but she made steady progress. After working with her for a couple of months, she was able to walk and to speak… That, to me, is the most gratifying thing to see. There’s no better feeling. Together we are Centers Strong.
