Kenny’s Corner

Going Forward and Going Strong. First of all, I want to wish everyone a Happy and Healthy New Year! But before making the leap forward into 2022, let’s take a moment to reflect on our achievements in 2021. It’s been a challenging year, but also an accomplished one, for Centers Health Care. In addition to the launch of our bold new website, Centers celebrated 25 years of experience, innovation and leadership. We cared for thousands of COVID-19 patients, helping them recover and regain their health. We honored Centers Health Care’s partners with a summer campaign that celebrated the company’s extensive network. We built Brooklyn’s largest, most advanced, totally renovated rehabilitation gym at Boro Park Center. And we gave back through Centers Cares, a heartwarming charity initiative, giving back to the communities we serve. It’s a year all of us—residents, patients, staff and partners—can be proud of. Thanks to all of you for doing your part.

A YEAR IN REVIEW

News from the Centers

Getting into the holiday spirit

In December, Troy Center enjoyed Holiday Spirit Week. Monday was Ugly Sweater Day; Tuesday Christmas Hat Day; Wednesday Holiday Character Day; Thursday Christmas Colors Day; and Friday Christmas Pajama Day. Now that’s a week to remember.

Read all about it!

Brooklyn Center has initiated a book drive, asking for donations in any genre and in any language. Novels, history, sci-fi…you name it, they’ll take it and share it. For residents and staff who can’t go to a library, no problem: Brooklyn Center is bringing a library to them!

Scout’s Honor

The local Boy Scouts brought holiday cheer to Kingston Center, donating and delivering dozens of colorful poinsettias to help decorate the facility during the holidays. It’s a beautiful thing!

All shook up!

Elvis was in the house at Ontario Center, just one of the many Christmas surprises at the facility. There was plenty of food and entertainment and a whole lot of smiles. We wonder if there were any blue suede shoes under the tree?

Go, Cocoa, Go!

Cocoa the wonder dog is going places, and he’s taking the residents of Glens Falls Center with him. Cocoa is a thumb-sized pup in a hot air balloon on a map, and he’s “traveling” to a different country every month. First stop: Switzerland…with a serving of hot pretzels and a Swiss cheese fondue for all. Good dog!

Happy New Year!

Deptford Center celebrated the new year with snacks, hats, noisemakers and a bit of the bubbly—sparkling apple cider. A sweet way to ring out the old and ring in the new. Welcome to 2022!

The People at the Centers

Stacey Brooks Director of Recreation, Wichita Center Stacey Brooks is a vital and vibrant member of the Wichita Center team. She is full of heart and full of love for our patients and residents. Stacey does a remarkable job keeping a full schedule of fun, creative and engaging activities. And she went above and beyond, meeting the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, bringing activities to each individual resident in their rooms. From Super Bowl Sunday to Valentine’s Day, from Mardi Gras to Passover and Easter, Stacey brings a multicultural, multidimensional flair to Wichita Center. But she credits the residents with fulfilling her. “They give more to me than I could ever repay,” she says. “They are assisting me in living out my dreams.

Making His Mark At the age of 16, Mark Lamkins started working in the kitchen of the skilled nursing facility at 152 Sherman Avenue. After four decades and several changes to the name of the facility, Mark is moving on—retiring from his position as Environmental Services Director at Glens Falls Center. Our thanks—and our admiration—go out to Mark for more than 43 years of dedicated service to the residents and staff. Good luck and happy retirement! We’ll miss you.
