Kenny’s Corner

March On! Spring is coming. After our long winter of discontent, which has lasted well over a year, a thaw is in the offing. Soon we’ll feel the warmth of the sun and we’ll benefit from the continuing advance of the vaccines across the country. Spring is the season of promise, renewal, hope and new possibility. It is a time of celebration—fasting, feasts and colorful festivities. Christians celebrate Easter; Jews observe Passover; Muslims renew their faith during Ramadan; and Hindus rejoice on Holi. No matter how you celebrate the new season, I urge everyone in the Centers Health Care family to spring forward. We have met—and are on the road to overcoming—a great challenge. Now, we a face a great opportunity. For just as we celebrate a new spring, we are also celebrating the 25th anniversary of our great company. Our first 25 years have been marked by expansion, renovation and innovation. And that is just the beginning. With your help, we will build on the past to create an even brighter future for Centers Health Care—as we move into new areas, introduce new programs and welcome new facilities into our family.

News from the Centers

Super Day

The residents and staff at Oak Hill Center enjoyed a super party on Super Sunday as they all enjoyed the Super Bowl. We all know now that the Tampa Bay Buccaneers won the game, but as far we’re concerned, everyone at the Center is a winner!

Valentine’s Day

They were all heart at Concord Nursing where, as at many of our facilities, Valentine’s Day was celebrated with brightly colored balloons, creative cards and assorted sweets. You’ve got to love it!

Dog Day

Every dog has his day, and that goes for Cocoa—eight-year-old therapy dog—who had his day of hugs and smiles at Glens Falls Center. When not cuddling with residents at the Center, Cocoa lives with Recreation Director Marijo Natale.

New Day

On Friday, February 12th, the folks at Brooklyn Center celebrated the Chinese New Year. In case you were wondering, it’s the Year of the Ox—described as hardworking, intelligent and reliable. Now that’s a good sign!

Fat Tuesday…

…otherwise known as Mardi Gras, brought out the purple green and gold at Ontario Center. Bright lights, colorful beads, and crazy masks were in evidence everywhere—as were good spirits and great smiles.

Back in the Day

Williamsbridge Center paid tribute to the roaring 20s—the 1920s that is—with flappers, bootleggers, and hot jazz making the scene. No speakeasies here, but plenty of fine refreshments. Great Gatsby, it was fun!

Centers Success Story

Crystal Nevins, Director of Nursing, Suffolk Center Director of Nursing Services at Suffolk Center, Crystal came to Suffolk Center in 2000 as a Recreation Aide, while in school to become an LPN. She worked as a CNA until passing the board. She worked at other facilities as well as in home care and hospitals, graduating with honors with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from Grand Canyon University in 2017. She is a board-certified family nurse practitioner whose experience runs the full gamut from home health care to pediatrics, long-term care, and rehabilitation, and health care management. With over two decades of experience, she follows in the footsteps of her mother, who recently retired from Suffolk Center after a 25-year nursing career. Does experience matter? The answer is Crystal clear.
