Beth Abraham Center’s cardiac program is the first in New York to be certified by the American Heart Association

Medical Director Dr. Carlos Tellechea and patient Efrain Carrasqullio. See Efrain’s testimonial on the back cover.

The American Heart Association has awarded Beth Abraham Center Post-Acute Heart Failure Center Certification. It is one of only ten locations nationally that have achieved this certification, and the only one in New York.

“At Beth Abraham Center we want to be trailblazers and continue to utilize innovative methods to give our heart failure patients the best care. The American Heart Association has armed us with additional tools and recognized our success. It is an honor to have our processes and efforts recognized in this way.” –Moshe Blackstein, Administrator Beth Abraham Center

Kenny’s Corner

A time to reflect, reunite and celebrate November is a month of transition—as the leaves and temperature fall, and we prepare for the colder months to come. Winter is in the air. But it is also a time to celebrate, as two of America’s most uplifting holidays warm our hearts. Veterans are honored on November 11th, and Thanksgiving is enjoyed on November 26th. This year, those two holidays have even more significance than usual. Don’t be surprised if these two days evoke a profound emotional response. On Veterans Day we recognize and honor the war heroes among us. In 2020, many of you have been on the frontlines of a different kind of war, against an invisible enemy: Covid-19. Thanksgiving marks a great traditional celebration, as we break bread, giving thanks for all we have. Now more than ever, it is essential that, even as we reflect on what we have lost, we also recognize and rejoice in what we have: family, friends and community. I, for one, want to give thanks to the heroes among us—those who have served in the military and those who have served in healthcare. Heroes like you.

News from the Centers

Stand-up in Brooklyn

Laughter is the best medicine, and Centers Health Care brought it to Brooklyn, inviting a group of stand-up comedians to entertain local hospital workers in the park. Stand up for health. Stand up for New York!

Bring on the BBQ

Holliswood Center wanted to show its appreciation to the Center’s staff for all their hard work. They pulled out all the stops…as well as enough burgers, hot dogs, salads and beverages to make everyone happy. Nothing says thank you like a hearty barbecue!

Warm the Heart

Ron Reynolds spent two and a half months recovering at Wichita Center unable to visit with family because of Covid-19. But visits are now allowed outside the facility, and Ron got a long-awaited visit from his Mom.

Say cheese!

October 2nd was World Smile Day and the residents and staff at Steuben Center demonstrated that, even with masks on, you can’t hide a smile. We’re hoping for many more happy days ahead!

Say I do!

Schenectady Center resident MaryLou couldn’t attend her granddaughter’s wedding, so the wedding—bride and groom—came to her. The staff made sure the beautiful bride, the handsome groom, and the marvelous MaryLou shared a happy, socially distanced moment.

Say Thank You!

In honor of Grandparents Day, the residents at Triboro Center were gifted beautiful plant donations by PlanTogether. Thank you for helping us recognize our residents on a special day for seniors. And thank you to grandparents everywhere!

My Centers Success Story

Efrain Carrasqullio Patient, Beth Abraham Center Things were not going well for me. My cardiac condition was deteriorating by the day. I was running out of options…and hope. Beth Abraham Center for Rehabilitation and Nursing was my last resort—and my saving grace. From day one, the clinical team was focused on helping me recover and get stronger. The Beth Abraham Cardiac Program came to my rescue. The team here exceeded my expectations—top-rated healthcare professionals and board-certified cardiologists are on top of my case. And not only do they have the most advanced rehab technology—cardiac telemetry, echocardiograms and more—they are also on top of the latest treatments and protocols. It’s been an extraordinary journey back to good health, and the Cardiac Program at Beth Abraham Center is the reason. My hope is that others benefit from the program the way I have. Here, giving up is not an option. I’m moving forward!

The Covid-19 Miracle at Deptford Center Camden taxi driver Eduardo Fortuna’s story is an inspiring and successful one. As reported on WCAU-TV NBC in Philadelphia and on Univision, he was treated at Cooper Hospital, then came to Deptford Center for his recovery and rehab. The result: Amazing and heartwarming!
