Small steps. Great strides.
On October 22, in Schenectady, New York, members of the Centers Health Care team joined in the 2022 Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s. Held annually in more than 600 communities nationwide, it is the world’s largest fundraiser for Alzheimer’s care, support and research.

Kenny’s Corner
A feast for the ages A celebration of the harvest—giving thanks for the bounty of the land—is a tradition that goes back centuries and is common to almost all cultures around the world. That festive occasion is the origin of the American holiday we call Thanksgiving. The first such celebrations in North America took place in Massachusetts and Virginia over three centuries ago. In 1863, Thanksgiving became an official national holiday, created by a presidential proclamation from Abraham Lincoln. Aside from my good health and loving family, I know that I have many reasons to give thanks. First and foremost: the dedicated, hard-working staff across Centers Health Care. Your commitment to our residents, and your compassion towards them, is a true call for celebration. In this holiday season, it’s a time to give thanks for all we have and to reconnect with family and friends. It’s also a time to feast on turkey, stuffing, potatoes, cranberry sauce, and pumpkin pie. And maybe even watch a little football. Happy Holidays to the entire Centers Health Care Family!

News from the Centers
Scary good fun
As in Octobers past, the ghosts and goblins haunt the halls of Centers Health Care. One example: Martine Center, where there were costumes, games, music and snacks. We understand they had a wicked good time!
Game time!
Some Bronx Center residents headed out to Yankee Stadium to root for the home team Yankees. The Bronx Bombers provided a great show as Aaron Judge chased the American League home run record. Fun? You be the judge!
Music to our ears
Slate Valley Center had an autumn vibe with lots of music from entertainers such as Al & Kathy Bain, Keanen & Orion, Singing with Cooie, Jeff Gonzales, and Saxophone with Max Haymaker (AKA Luke McNamee). That’s how to swing into the season!
We’ve got talent!
Washington Center residents showed their stuff on one crafternoon in October. They worked with paper, paste and scissors, creating an artful menagerie of masks and more!
Foodies rule!
Residents at Bushwick Center enjoyed a festival of food. One day it was making their own hoagies. Another day it was a field trip to a nearby buffet restaurant. Delicious. Nutritious. Auspicious!
A crowning achievement
The folks at New Paltz Center celebrated Make a Hat Day by, you guessed it, making hats. All we can say is: that’s using your head!
Another Success Story
Jonathan Gilliam Meet Jonathan Gilliam. He lost a leg, but found hope, health and a new lease on life at Holliswood Center. As a former patient at the facility, when he comes back to visit, he says it’s like coming home to his second family. That’s care that moves you.

1. The day after Thanksgiving is the busiest day of the year for plumbers. (In the “too much information” category)
Did you know?
2. Americans eat 704 million pounds of turkey every Thanksgiving. (And probably put on about that many pounds as well.)
7 fun facts about Thanksgiving
3. Calvin Coolidge was given a live raccoon one Thanksgiving. (Which may have been the high point of his presidency.) 4. Tofu is the most hated Thanksgiving dish. (Go figure.) 5. The first Thanksgiving lasted three days. (That’s a lot of naps on the sofa.) 6. Holiday weight gain accounts for most of the thickening associated with aging. (See fun fact #2) 7. More people travel to Orlando, Florida, than anywhere else on Thanksgiving. (Nothing says Thanksgiving more than Mickey Mouse.)
