Buffalo Center’s Rehab Staff
Centers launches the breakthrough GO Rehab Program; it’s changing the way rehab is done. Introduced at Buffalo Center and Ellicott Center earlier this year, the GO Rehab Program is an intensive new approach that utilizes cutting-edge technology and leading-edge treatment protocols for faster and more successful outcomes. It’s now also available in both our Schenectady Center and Martine Center. And the GO Program may soon be coming to you. The GO Rehab Program clients benefit from the Jintronix biofeedback system, which uses computer gaming technology and multiple motion sensors to make therapy more fun and more effective. Clients in the GO unit will also have access to Netflix, Tim Hortons coffee and Chromebooks.

A time to look back...and leap forward. 2018 was a banner year for Centers Health Care. We welcomed several new facilities into the Centers family, and gave a brilliant new makeover to several others. We launched the exciting, innovative and unprecedented GO Rehab Program. We became the first New York State-wide sponsor of the Alzheimer’s Association’s 2018 Walk to End Alzheimer’s, organizing walks across the state and generating sizable donations toward their goal of finding a cure for the disease. We developed creative new ways and incentives to add top talent to our team. I could go on and on about our successes in 2018, but it’s a new year and, as we look back, it’s also the perfect time to look forward to 2019—and new opportunities for change and growth. At Centers, we are always moving forward, and 2019 promises to be another terrific year for us. We’re all in this together—and together we’ll continue to do great things. Happy New Year to all!

News from the Centers
Crazy sweaters were all the rage. Troy Center celebrated the holidays by decking the halls with crazy, ugly sweaters, fa la la la la, la la la la. Eggnog was served and prizes were given.
Guess who came to town.
Santa took time out from his busy schedule to pay a visit to both Corning Center and Buffalo Center. Reindeer sightings were reported.
Raising the roof
On December 8, the Centers Health Care Adirondack Region holiday party featured hors d’oeuvres, an open bar, dinner, dancing and a photo booth. We can’t wait to see the pictures!
A warm lunch to warm the heart
Schenectady Center held a soup sale fundraiser in their lobby on November 30. Proceeds went to a holiday fund to purchase gifts for residents. Bon appetit!
Just add color
Out at Butler Center in Missouri, they had a kids’ coloring contest for Christmas. A couple of winners rode off on new bicycles. That’s a pretty nice season’s greetings.
Paws that refresh
The fabulous Dazzle Dogs were on display at Washington Center and they put on a show. The staff and residents were, well, dazzled.
The People at the Centers
She’s all heart. Ernestine Grooms, RN, is a nurse manager at Ellicott Center in Buffalo. She’s worked there “forever,” she says, and that has been our good fortune at Centers. Born in Florida, her parents brought her north to Buffalo at a very young age, making her a virtual native of the city. She attended the Niagara County and Erie County Community Colleges, as well as the University of Buffalo, ultimately earning her nursing degree. In Buffalo, the City of Good Neighbors, she is one of the best. Thirteen years ago, Ernestine and her youngest son Alfred founded a charity that they named Esther’s House. Tragically, she lost Alfred three years ago in a car accident, but Ernestine’s good work continues at her church, Soul Saving Revival Center. Every year, through her charity, she has served over 500 free Thanksgiving dinners to those in need. She hopes to expand Esther’s House, with the ultimate goal of finding a building where she can serve free dinners not just on Thanksgiving, but every Saturday. Ernestine’s caring and compassion exemplify everything we strive to be at Centers Health Care. She is a blessing.
