Kenny’s Corner

Great news from the Sunflower State I’m pleased to announce that Centers Health Care has acquired two new facilities in Kansas: ManorCare Health Services – Topeka, and ManorCare Health Services – Wichita. They are now Topeka Center and Wichita Center. Our goal is to make them two of the most desirable facilities anywhere in the state, and, as you all know, we at Centers don’t take our goals lightly. As with all of our facilities, we are committed to longevity and stability. We create centers that are gems of their communities, making a positive impact on the fortunes and futures of our residents, their families and caregivers, social workers and medical professionals. Join me in welcoming Topeka Center and Wichita Center to the growing Centers family—stretching now from Rhode Island to New York, from New Jersey to Missouri and Kansas.

Centers Bonus Buddy program rocks! Did you know that Centers Health Care gets some of its best and brightest nurses through referrals? Through the Bonus Buddy program both the new employee and the referring employee receive a bonus—and every employee is eligible to make referrals. In the last quarter of 2018, in one Center alone—Oak Hill— employees racked up a whopping $6,000 in bonuses! Thank you for all those referrals and keep them coming. See your administrator for details. Terms and conditions apply.

The People at the Centers

Above and Beyond For the last three and a half years, Wendy has been the Lead Receptionist at Warren Center—and taking the lead is exactly what she does every day at the front desk. She grew up in a small town in North Carolina before moving to Glens Falls, and she brings a friendly, good-natured, small-town sensibility to Warren Center. “We’re family,” Wendy says about the residents and staff at the facility, and she’s always ready to go the extra mile—and give out extra snacks from her desk—for all the members of her Warren Center family. She knows how hard the CNA’s work and always has a few extra items—such as towels and plastic gloves—on hand in case they need them. She’s happy to place phone calls for both staff and residents, and after supper she’ll join some residents for games of Uno or Go Fish. At home, you’ll find Wendy baking and crafting. At work, you’ll find her crafting a unique place in our hearts. “The people here,” she says, “have made me a better person.” And as far as we’re concerned, she has made Warren Center a better place to be.

Lighting up the Room Kaia has a smile—and a personality—that lights up a room and a whole lot more. Unit Manager at Oneida Center, she brightens up the entire facility, neighborhood and community. Another thing you can count on with Kaia is—you’ll rarely see her sitting still. “I’ll do whatever it takes,” she says, “to help my team.” Whether that means making sure that her unit is sufficiently staffed or helping to change a resident’s clothes, Kaia’s there. No question she has plenty of experience caring for people—having raised four children, three boys and a girl. She has a family at home and at work… literally. Her twenty-year old daughter Tajana works in dietary at Oneida Center. Kaia is pleased to report that Tajana is also enrolled in CNA classes at night—and Centers is paying her tuition and transportation to and from her classes. No wonder she’s smiling. Keep it up Kaia. You make our day.
