A mother’s desire to send her daughter to Ontario Christian propelled her to become an ardent Scrip fan. by Regina Wang, Director of Marketing
Œ
Tiffany (Offinga) Valenciana (’01) had a dream: If God ever blessed her with a child, she would send her child to Ontario Christian also. Tiffany knew she would not have led a life as a” woman on fire” for God’s call, had she not attended OC from kindergarten through grade 12. Tiffany wanted her future child to have what she had growing up: a set of Christian friends who stuck with her through thick and thin and who spurred each other on in faith. OC had provided Christian teachers who opened Tiffany’s mind to God’s love and wisdom, and a Christcentered community who knew her and looked out for her. Her OC education has had a long-lasting impact. She remembers the psychology class with Mrs. Karen Gallagher which piqued her curiosity about the study of mind and behavior. Later, at La Sierra University, she majored in psychology. She also minored in art, thanks to Mrs. Bev
Tinklenberg, whose art classes she had loved. In October 2015, she finished a doctorate degree in psychology from Azusa Pacific University. Now, as a psychologist, she has incorporated art therapy as she works with her clients. “My OC education and experiences really prepared me for college and graduate school,” she says. “I put my Christian faith into my practice.” In God’s providence, Tiffany started dating Andre, a neighbor and a friend of her brother, who also loved Jesus. Before the two were engaged, they decided that their children would receive an Ontario Christian education. They got married in 2013. When she was five months’ pregnant, she heard about Scrip, an OC fundraiser. A light bulb turned on: She could start buying Scrip for her baby! That would help her dream come true. Now, this child, Ava Valenciana, only one year old, already has a year’s worth of OC tuition rebate waiting to be used. Scrip works! When Tiffany buys a gift card from the OC Scrip program, a certain percentage (usually somewhere from 2% to 5%) goes to OC. The same percentage goes into the parent’s tuition rebate account. The more gift cards that parents use, the larger their children’s tuition rebates. Tiffany tries to use Scrip for everything she needs: grocery shopping at Staters, coffee breaks at Starbucks, diaper runs at Target, and of course, date nights with Andre at their favorite restaurants. As she watches Ava grow, she hopes her daughter will become independent, try her best, and set high goals. She wants Ava to develop love and compassion for others. She know that Ontario Christian will help Ava learn and thrive and become the person God created her to be. And if takes Scrip to send her daughter there, then she is committed. One gift card at a time. q

New Security Measures by Ken Bootsma, Interim Superintendent The fund-raising efforts of our annual Dinner – Benefit Auction will serve to enhance our emergency and security systems on both campuses, and we are truly grateful to the families and friends who attend this great event and who find it in their hearts to support “security.” This is what we’ve done to date under the leadership of Darin Slocum: • Developed a complete set of blueprints—thanks to Ted Terpstra, Randy De Jong, and Steve Bierbaum—that were necessary to identify each building (roof and side walls) and every room • Worked with the Ontario SWAT to develop a thorough assessment of our needs • Provided for a more secure entrance at the elementary and pre-school offices • Just received new walkie-talkies for all teachers, administrators, and offices • Earthquake, fire, and active shooter preparedness • Replaced security glass at all entrances • Just installed door peepholes in all classrooms • Replaced a few “inadequate” doors at the elementary school
Scrip is a great fundraiser for Ontario Christian and your opportunity to receive a tuition rebate toward your child’s education. For example, when you buy a $100 Home Depot gift card, 2% goes toward your tuition rebate, and 2% goes to OC. Scrip is sold from 8 to 10 a.m. on Tuesdays (high school office) and Fridays (elementary school office). In addition, you can now buy Scrip as you wait in line by using My Scrip Wallet. For more info, visit www.ocschools.org/blog/why-we-love-scrip/ Contact Wanda De Vries (909) 229-1773, Debbie Hauptman (909) 957-8812, or email scrip@ocschools.org. Gasoline: 76 Gas, Arco, Chevron / Texaco Mobil / Exxon Shell
• Insisting on locked classroom doors when in session • Offices now have Panic Buttons • Incorporated use of ID protocol at elementary and middle school campus • Acquired CrisisGo software (to be installed) on all staff phones, computers, etc., so that anyone can identify 1 of 8 different emergencies, campus-wide, and so we have an accurate attendance record of all students This is a list of currently identified needs: • Emergency (2 day) food supply plus five 55-gallon drums of water at each campus ($9,500) • Purchase First-Aid and Search and Rescue packs ($3,000) • Remodel the business office entrance (to fit the current bank model) $13,000 • Install a buzz-in door system at the high school ($1,500) • Remodel the Pre-School entrance with walkways in both directions, plus additional fencing ($42,000) • Change out security glass at the elementary school ($1,800) • Security camera system (Video Insight System) at a cost of $18,000 for each campus

Œ
When God Transforms a Man’s Heart, His Life Turns Upside Down. by Regina Wang Christian DaCosta grew up in a loving, but secular family in New York City. In his youth he became interested in the Nation of Islam. Through studying martial arts, he was introduced and influenced toward Taoism. Yet in his heart, he knew God was not in those religions. “I was looking for God in all the wrong faiths,” he says. In 2007, when he was working as a police officer in La Verne, a traumatic motorcyle accident brought Christian to the God of the Bible. A car smashed into him. He was injured severely. Seven days and seven surgeries later, he was stabilized, but the doctors doubted that he would ever walk again. As visitors came and went, somehow he felt there was one Visitor who never left his side. This Presence brought the peace and joy Christian had been searching for, the Real God. Seven weeks later, another miracle occurred: his daughter Alyssa was born through an emergency C-section. His healing and newborn baby made him aware of his Creator. He knew it was time to seek God. On June 14, 2009, he accepted Christ. A few months later his wife, Brandy, rededicated her life. They began to devour the truths in the Bible and experience God’s peace and provision. “God turned our house upside down,” he says. “He got us on the straight and narrow.” Now an attendee of Calvary Chapel Chino Hills, Christian serves in security and is also a leader in men’s ministry. The DaCosta family: Christian, Brandy, Alyssa (2nd grade), and Dahlia (preschool)
At the same time, he takes his role as a God-fearing father seriously. He and his wife decided to send their daughters to Ontario Christian. Because they both grew up in secular homes, they know the roughness and strains that life puts into a child’s upbringing. So, they take joy in seeing Alyssa and Dahlia grow up
with Christian friends. When Alyssa struggled with phonetics, Christian appreciated the help and encouragement of her teacher, Mrs. Kirstin Kristenpfad. The couple also has made friends with other OC parents, seeing them at school functions, church and birthday parties. They appreciate the positive influence that OC has had on their family. Christian is grateful for God’s mercy that brought the family to church and to OC. He praises God for all that He has done in his life. He testifies: “I want to finish the race, keep the faith, and lead my family well.” q

Staff Spotlight:
Pattie Bassi by Regina Wang
Quick facts: • She once smuggled Bibles into China right before the Tiananmen Square protests in the 80’s. • She has run three half-marathons. • She is a 7th generation Spanish American. • She has held many jobs: a waitress, a photographer, and a preschool teacher. She has also sold many things: screwdrivers, fried chicken, furniture, and shoes. • Her husband, Matthew, works as the director of planning at the city of Wildomar.
We love Pattie Bassi! Pattie Bassi brightens the elementary school front office with her delightful attitude. As the health clerk, Pattie makes sure the health needs of our little ones are cared for. Growing up in Chino, Pattie has worked at Ontario Christian since 2009. She has been a strong member of Moms in Prayer. All three of Pattie’s children graduated from OC: Jonathan ’10, Jonah ’13, and Charis ’15. Our teachers appreciate Pattie for her cheerful, genuine spirit. Her infectious smile puts those around her at ease. But most of all, her Godly and prayerful heart reveals a close relationship with the Father. “I have many opportunities during a school day to see how Pattie interacts with students, parents and teachers. She is always kind and encouraging-- always willing to pray with anyone who needs prayer. As a friend and co-worker Pattie is supportive and encouraging and truthful!” - Judy Besteman “Knowing Pattie Bassi for the last several years has shown me what a heart that genuinely seeks the Lord in all circumstances looks like. No matter what life brings her, Pattie turns the conversation to Christ and to the goodness and faithfulness of the Father in her world. She frequently takes time out of her day to pray for the needs of others; I, myself, have been blessed by her prayers and words of encouragement. Luke 6:45 speaks of our words being the overflow of our hearts; Pattie speaks from a heart full of the promises, mercy, and love of our heavenly Father. She is truly a woman after the Lord’s own heart.” - Michelle Wynia. q

Young Authors’ Parade “There is more treasure in books than in all the pirate’s loot on Treasure Island.” – Walt Disney by Carleen Maurer, Director of Academic Achievement
Œ
This week, we experienced that treasure, magic, and wonder, as our OC students and teachers celebrated their favorite book characters in our Young Authors’ parade. What a blessing it was to see so many amazing lovable characters! Cat in the Hat, Thing 1 and Thing 2, Little Red Riding Hood and the Wolf, Pinkalicious, Harry Potter, Curious George, and so many more. Great job OC families on your creativity and your help in fostering a love for reading and writing in our precious young ones. Our teachers were amazing as well, getting in on the fun. From Pam Powell as the Hungry little Caterpillar, to Marlene DeGroot as Mr. Popper’s Penguins, our students LOVED seeing their teachers as their own favorite book characters. Events like these are the things that kids will always remember about their school days! Thank you to all of our OC families for helping make this a success. We praise God for you! The fun isn’t over! Now that our students have finished writing their own winter wonderland stories, our High School Honors English classes will be receiving the top 3-6 papers from each class, and deciding on the winners for each grade level. We will have an awards ceremony on Friday, Feb 12th during chapel to announce the big winners and celebrate all of our students for their work over these past few weeks. Congratulations to all of our Young Authors! q

OC ANNUAL REPORT c 2016
2015-2016 Annual Report:
From the Superintendent’s Desk by Ken Bootsma Introduction
The Board of Trustees and I are pleased to present this report. Most of the financial information has been prepared by our business manager, Nancy Geertsma. “OC began with a vision” when OC was founded in 1944, and today we still follow that vision of seeking God’s will for Christian education in the Inland Empire. All through these years, successive leaders have committed to the fundamental principle of governance and instruction in the Word of God. OC is a provider of Biblically-based education, academic excellence, and practical Christ-like service, within a campus environment of Christian integrity and love. Today we continue to support the vision of our founders. OC’s outstanding faculty fosters an environment of academic excellence and ethical values. Our goal is to graduate young adults who will integrate their Christian worldview with their Ken Bootsma professional careers and community service. Obviously, the key to the success of Ontario Christian Schools is God’s blessing and the faithfulness of His people in this mission. We affirm the Biblical truths that creation is the work of God, that our world has fallen into sin, and that redemption is possible only through the gracious work of Jesus Christ. Those who teach and learn are called to be coworkers with Christ In subjecting all cultural activities to the reign of God. Genuine education must involve the whole student as a thinking, feeling, and believing person. We recognize the blessings that have been showered upon us, and we are pleased to present this report which will give you some insight into what it means for us to live and work in Christian community. Please continue to remember OC with your financial support.

As trustees, staff, faculty and administrators seek to carry out this Kingdom task, please pray that we may make wise decisions regarding the needs, hopes and plans for OC. Superintendent’s report
Rather than bore you with a lengthy list of all the good things that are planned or already happening, I will simply explain those items which are currently being discussed at the various staff levels. The Biblical, faith-based learning environment must demonstrate a commitment to a child-centered, measurable, teaching model, showing the highest level of excellence. We desire that all students will achieve their God-given, fullest capability, so we offer every opportunity for that to happen in every classroom. Personnel: 1. We are currently advertising for a Director of Special Education. The hire date is the end of February, so that he/she can lead the planning process before we launch this new Special Education program in August. Many families have a sincere interest in this program, so we actually have more applications that we can accommodate the first year. What a wonderful blessing to the entire OC community. 2. After a thorough search, Kourtnie Roberts was named Director of Curriculum and Instruction. Kourtnie comes with outstanding qualifications. On February 2, she was hired on a 40% basis that will become a 60% position effective August 1, 2016. She and her husband are parents of four OC children. 3. Chanin Zaragoza assumed the leadership role for marketing, enrollment management, and all fundraising activities as our Director of Advancement. The MEM Team, consisting of Tira Dennis, Regina Wang, Nicole DeVries, and Chanin, work well together, and they plan to expand their current list of events and activities. 5. Jim Peterson, Head of South Christian HS in Byron Center, MI, and former Director of IT at Holland Christian Schools for 20 years, recently spent 3 days to
OC ANNUAL REPORT c 2016
evaluate our school’s IT program, meeting with IT faculty, staff and administration. He has already submitted his observations and recommendations. 6. The principals and I have been evaluated by the faculty and Board. In addition, grade 5-12 students recently completed the Teacher Image Questionnaire for each of their teachers. This extensive feedback is a very useful tool and an integral part of our total evaluation program. 7. Darin Slocum is in charge of campus security, with the help of Randy De Jong and our Emergency Preparedness teams. 8. As we plan for the 2016-2017 school year, we are excited to see an increase in enrollment projections, a smaller (3.0%) increase in tuition, a wait-list for our PreSchool, and expanded curriculum offerings. Improving the assessment of student learning will be the primary purpose of upcoming staff development.
I pray that every child enrolled at OC, everyone who works at OC, as well as friends and family around the globe who love and support Ontario Christian Schools, will continue to be blessed. We base our confidence on the promises of our Lord Jesus Christ who gave vision and faith to our founding fathers and mothers, the continuing generosity of God’s people, and the commitment we all have to our beloved school. Based on what I have experienced, observed, and heard from others, Ontario Christian is “Here for Good” in the broadest sense of the phrase. I am seeing Christ’s hand in advancing our hopes and dreams—the development of wonderful Christian students who are being trained to live in His love, to serve Him, our families, communities, churches and the world. We’ve made a lot of progress to date and there’s more to do. We’re extremely grateful to those who are planning the annual Dinner-Auction for your financial support. More later! q

OC ANNUAL REPORT c 2016
High School Report Tim Hoekstra, High School Principal
Ontario Christian High School continues in its mission of Growing Christian Leaders and training young people in God’s way. We nurture and educate the children of Christian parents, equipping them with skills and the desire to place all their relationships with people and culture under the authority of Jesus Christ as revealed in the Bible. Future college plans are also very important. Ontario Christian’s graduation requirements fulfill most college entrance requirements. In 2015, 96% of our graduates continued their formal education at universities, colleges, and junior colleges. We continue to look for better ways to prepare students for the academic challenges of higher education. This year we added a computer coding class to our course offerings. Our graduates have often told us that that they have been well prepared for the collegiate academic rigor that they encountered.
Tim Hoekstra
However, college tuition continues to rise. We hope to give our families and students some relief by opening these opportunities. Seven AP classes and eight AP exams are offered on our campus each spring. In addition, we plan to add dual enrollment credit classes to our course offerings. Taking these classes and passing these AP exams could save your student almost a full year of college tuition. This winter we offered a Career Series on (late start) Thursday mornings. Based on a student interest poll, professionals from these top four careers–TV & movie production, law enforcement, music production, and nursing–came to share their knowledge and experience. They gave presentations and answered questions. We are thankful that students could learn about careers and callings in this way. Ontario Christian also offers a variety of clubs that meet on or off campus, both during the school day and at other times. Ask your students about these outstanding opportunities. Finally, we appreciate our Mom’s In Prayer, parents, and grandparents for their continued prayers on behalf of the students and staff of Ontario Christian High School. We know that your prayers make a difference! q

OC ANNUAL REPORT c 2016
Middle School Report Bob De Groot, Middle School Principal
Ontario Christian Middle School continues to be richly blessed! We don’t take that for granted, so we intentionally show our gratitude by being a blessing to others. Thanks be to God who is working through OCMS. We have high academic standards, a strong focus on communication, professional learning teams, excellent support for students through our SIP program, quality non-core curriculum (band, choir, Spanish, PE, computers, art, exploratories), advisement program, daily TEAM planning meetings, 1-1 Chromebooks for our students, a fantastic staff, great chapels, an energetic and hardworking student council, service days, a spiritual retreat, competitive athletic program, international student program… just to name some of our blessings. We know there are needs all over the world, and our middle school regularly focuses on needs in Rwanda and Ethiopia--we support two students there through Compassion International. Last Christmas, we focused on ways to serve our local community. We created a Christmas tree with one hundred tags listing service opportunities. The requirements varied: time, the gift of $5.00 to spread God’s love, prayer for a hurting family, the writing of a Christmas card to someone who needed encouragement, the gift of a blanket to a homeless person, or the donation of an item to House of Ruth (a local domestic shelter). In less than a week, every tag on the tree was claimed! Then the wishes started becoming reality: books, toys, slippers, sweatshirts, and jewelry were brought to school to be donated to the holiday store at the House of Ruth. One student left a nice note and her $5 to a waitress. Another student donated to the family of a victim of the San Bernardino shooting. Several students bought baking supplies and made cookies for a neighbor that was going through a hard time.
Bob DeGroot
Thus, one small deed at a time, our students spread God’s love a hundred different ways. OCMS is growing Christian leaders – one project, one lesson, one experience, one wish at a time! God is good! q

OC ANNUAL REPORT c 2016
Elementary School Report Mike Wiersma, Elementary School Principal
Each year is special at Ontario Christian. Each year God has something fresh for His school. We saw this in the excitement and enthusiasm as we welcomed each new Kindergarten child, each new family, and each returning student to OC last September. God continues to bring families to OC. In 2015 – 2016 we welcomed the largest group of students OC has enrolled in the past eight years. God is being made famous through the dedication of an amazing faculty and staff who continue to guide all these children to seek His Sovereignty in a wide variety of subject areas. Praise God that parents continue to value this Christian education. This year we have four sections of kindergarten and anticipate that God will open the door to further Preschool expansion. We hope to fill four sections in each grade level in the future. Our students are improving in the accelerated reading program. Last year three students reached 1000 points, and fourteen earned 500 points. This year we closed first semester at 21,844.3 points. The primary teachers equip students with tools to enable them to read successfully. Intermediate teachers encourage them to use those tools to develop a lifelong love for reading. Mike Wiersma
OC is emphasizing this truth in Growing Christian Leaders: we are blessed to be a blessing. Our kids demonstrate this in two key ways. First, on the final Friday of each month our student body brings in cans of nonperishable food items that we donate to Isaiah’s Rock in Chino. Second, at Thanksgiving, we fill a van with gently used and new shoes. We rejoice that many people will be blessed by our generous donations. God is made famous as students share their blessings with others. Each student is a unique creation with various gifts for art, music, writing, math, athletics, or a wonderful blend of several gifts. This year we celebrated the creative writing gifts of our students through a writing contest. Students composed their own narrative writing and then showcased their books in a joyful, creative parade. We are grateful for God’s continuing faithfulness to Ontario Christian Schools. He is made famous as kids learn to integrate their faith and learning and see God’s call in their own lives. Thank you for your commitment to Growing Christian Leaders. We will continue to trust God to do immeasurably more than all we could ask or imagine. q

OC ANNUAL REPORT c 2016
Preschool Report Jane Reichert, Preschool Director
The OC Preschool and Jr. K (Transitional Kindergarten) has had a very busy year. Our enrollment has hit record levels of 156 children with a waiting list of more than 50. For the first time, we offer two Jr. K classes. God has blessed us with many wonderful families. Eventful days were filled with field trips to the Pumpkin Patch and Amy’s Farm. We enjoyed performing the Christmas Program, “What the Animals Saw.” Of course it snowed once again in January for the preschoolers to play. We thank our OCPA for helping us with the cost of the snow. Now we are looking forward to Grandparents’ Teas and the Spring Program/Open House. Exciting news! Our preschool is expanding! Right now, our enrollment cannot exceed 98 children. However, we are asking the State of California Community Care to license all eight classrooms in the preschool building. We must add extra playground space, since regulations require 75 square feet per child, so we plan to fence the cement fire lane in front of the present kindergarten rooms to provide a gated play area for tricycles, balls, and hopscotch. (It will still be accessible for the emergency vehicles). This should increase our overall capacity to approximately 150 per day, increasing our total enrollment to 180-200 children. (Not every child on the 2 day and 3 day schedule is here everyday). We will be adding extra security by having a central check-in/sign-in area in the lobby. Parents will enter through the lobby doors, sign in, and go to their child’s classroom through added doors behind new fencing. This will regulate those who are coming and going into the preschool campus.
Jane Reichert

OC ANNUAL REPORT c 2016
Admissions and Advancement Report by Chanin Zaragoza, Director of Advancement
“Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father” – James 1:17 That’s what we consider each and every student here at OC! A gift from God! This year’s enrollment numbers exceeded our expectations. This is great news! Families are seeing the value of investing in quality Christian education. At times such as these, when the world is pushing God out of our public schools and out of society as a whole, we have the privilege of infusing God into our students’ daily lives. Ontario Christian continues to make an impact on our community. New homes are being built in Eastvale and South Ontario, and new families will be attracted to OC. With our proven academic excellence, spiritual instruction, and outstanding athletic programs, we are expecting our enrollment numbers to climb. OC has been serving our community and God’s Kingdom since 1944, and we are passionate about raising funds to educate and impact the next generation of Christian leaders. Our donors have the most generous hearts. They delight in and desire to see students receive a Godly education. Donations can make Christian education possible for some students who may otherwise not be able to afford it. Other givers will help to provide enhanced security for our school, build the new gym, new tennis courts, and much more. If you are new to giving, here are areas of opportunity where your help is needed:

OC ANNUAL REPORT c 2016
Technology Report by Ken Yeh, Director of Technology At Ontario Christian Schools, the use of technology has increased students’ learning and creativity. The focus is not on the use of a specific technology tool, but on the skills gained and the learning outcomes achieved through that tool. For example, during Computer Science Education Week in December, 2015, hundreds of OC elementary, middle, and high school students had the opportunity to build valuable skills while coding their way through a variety of challenges. Since I had been a high school teacher and college graduate, I had the privilege of returning to the classroom to work with OC teachers. We created a number of Hour of Code sessions. Our page of coding resources is still available at http://ifli.ocknight.org/hour-of-code. Coding can empower students to create, not just consume, content on a computer. It is the modern version of taking apart a clock or radio to understand how it works. If you take apart a digital device, you cannot learn much because all the functions are hidden within the microprocessors. But a student who is interested in coding can “take apart” the software that runs the device and gain an understanding of what makes it work. Even if a student has no interest in becoming a programmer or app designer, learning to code teaches valuable skills, such as problem solving, communication, logical thinking, attention to detail, and perseverance. At OCHS, a new course on programming begins second semester, while coding has been added to the elementary and middle school computer curriculum. Last year OC rolled out the 1-to-1 Chromebook program in the middle and high school grades. This year, full class sets of Chromebooks were provided for all 6th grade classrooms, in addition to our computer labs. OC now maintains over a thousand computers, quadrupling the number from 4 years ago. Yet we have been able to sustain operations with just one additional IT staff, due to the efficiency of running Chromebooks for students as well as streamlining system procedures. This has enabled the technology department to spend time directly training staff members who use that technology in their classrooms.
Ken Yeh

For example, we train teachers how to map students’ progress in skill and content areas, in order to find the areas that need additional teaching, and to recognize when students are making good progress in a subject. This deeper insight into individualized learning enables teachers to make more effective use of class time to achieve the greatest potential for each student. q

OC ANNUAL REPORT c 2016
Marketing Report by Regina Wang
The moment our Ontario Christian high school choir, directed by Mrs. Melanie Dorn Kraut, started singing the national anthem at the Citizens Business Bank Arena on January 16, a silence fell on the audience of over 6,000 people, a stark contrast to the hustle and bustle of hockey games. In the fall of 2015, we launched the “Ontario Christian is Here for Good” campaign with a two-fold purpose. One, OC has had roots in the Inland Empire since 1944, and is here to stay. Two, we want to show that OC is here for the good of the community. The “Here4Good” banners, featuring our students and their testimonies, are prominent on both our elementary and high school campuses. To let our light shine, we partnered with the American Red Cross to host our very first “OC Community Knight at the Reign” in the Citizens Business Bank Area (see photos on page 30). Our Cheer Squad represented the OC spirit as they performed on the ice. We wanted the audience to know that there is a Christian school in Ontario that is standing firm in the midst of social and political changes, holding true to the teachings of Jesus and taking Christian education seriously. It was a beautiful night of celebration. Over 140 OC families participated in the event. Dr. Bootsma represented OC and received a Reign’s jersey on the stage. Elementary Principal Mike Wiersma rode the Zamboni across the ice. OC truly shone that night. Indeed, we have been in the spotlight. In 2015, our region voted Ontario Christian as the “Best Private School” and “Best Preschool” in the Inland Valley. We were the recipients of two Readers’ Choice awards, thanks to the readers of the Daily Bulletin and the Chino Champion. This year, a video “A Day in the Life of an OC Kindergartner” took the web by storm. It has been viewed over 1,000 times since it was released in early January. With the help of Facebook advertising, a showing of the video drew a packed open house at our Kindergarten Open House on January 28. Through all these external and internal marketing efforts, we want people to know what God is doing at Ontario Christian. Our faculty has been featured in the weekly Campus Connection since September. We continue to testify to God’s faithfulness in our Knightline, published three times a year. I am thankful for OC parents like Christian DaCosta (read his story on pg. 6) whose commitment to being a God-fearing father has helped to make OC a Christ-centered community. I am particularly grateful for OC staff Pattie Bassi (read her story on pg. 7); the light of Christ is shining through her. Our alumni are also making a difference in their communities. Read the story of Tiffany (Offinga) Valenciana ‘01, a Christian psychologist, on pg. 4.
Regina Wang
When you are part of OC, God will weave your stories into His Story through our OC families. OC is here for good—only because He is good! Soli Deo gloria! q

The Board of Trustees are all members of churches with a Reformed perspective. Ontario Christian School was founded by Reformed churches and continues to provide for the future of the organization by selecting board members from these churches. The Board of Trustees is pleased that Ontario Christian has a student body that comes from over 200 churches. It is a tremendous blessing to have such a wonderful diversity of Christians involved in the life of Ontario Christian. Boosters Club
Keeping Pace with Your OC Boosters Club by Bernie Gabrielse, Boosters President
Ĺ’
2016 has begun and your OC Boosters Club is back to work! Our continuing challenge is raising money to enhance the athletic facilities at Ontario Christian. We are always looking for new members to bring us fresh ideas. If you are looking for a way to support OC athletics, OC Boosters Club could be your opportunity. Just contact any Boosters Club member to get involved. Currently we are planning the 23rd Annual OC Boosters Golf Classic to be held June 3, 2016, at the beautiful Los Serranos Golf Course. This event is a lot of fun and raises meaningful money for athletics. To accomplish this, we need raffle gifts, tee sponsors, event sponsors, and, obviously, golfers. The Classic Committee, led by Mr. Kevin Knutson our current OC Golf Coach, meets monthly to plan and challenge ourselves to improve the event. Please be thinking how you can be involved. Besides golf, we promote OC through Booster Bin Promotional clothing and items. Also, we are starting to plan the 2016-17 Athletic Program and All-School Directory, as well as the Labor Day Pancake Breakfast. We also keep in touch with recently graduated OC athletes and send them items that they need and appreciate. That has been a lot of fun, since most of them are surprised and happy to be remembered. Please visit the beautiful OC Athletic web-site in order to find out schedules, directions to games, media mentions of current and past athletes, as well as all-time records in each OC sport. The Boosters Club is a busy organization: we set our yearly goal of raising $100,000 to help OC athletics. To make that happen, we need new members. So if you want to be involved in OC, and particularly in the school athletic program, we encourage you to join one of the most active parent-run programs at OC. You will meet a lot of really fine people you probably never would have met otherwise. Please join us at our next meeting, which is Monday, March 21, at 7:00 pm. We meet in the high school library. Get involved! q

OC ANNUAL REPORT c 2016
OC Reign Night photos by Regina Wang
On the Cover
Future Generations of OC Knights by Regina Wang When you visit the campus of Ontario Christian, you see legacy. In 1944, a group of men and women from Ontario Christian Reformed Church took a step of faith and established a Christian school. More than 70 years later, Ontario Christian has grown from a one-room schoolhouse to the longest-standing Christian school in the Inland Valley with a community of over 1,000 students. We pray that God, out of His goodness and mercy, will continue to bless the work of His hands. We hope to see many future generations of Knights equipped with vision, understanding, and discernment. We long to see them living a life worthy to the calling they receive. And we — OC faculty and staff — are committed to empowering our students to develop their God-given gifts. Here is to our future OC Knights!

Because of an editing error, an article in the fall 2015 edition about why an Ontario Christian alumnus chose to send his daughter to his alma mater misspelled the author’s surname name. He is Justin Bonestroo, not Boonestro.

An article in the fall 2015 edition about Ontario Christian athletes misstated Travis Booth’s class year. He graduated from OC in 2014, not 2013.
