EDITORIALE

Il retail Il Tarì si appresta ad inaugurare il nuovo anno operativo con il suo tradizionale appuntamento espositivo di marzo, dedicato alle collezioni moda e ai nuovi trend nella gioielleria per il 2019.

Un appuntamento da sempre atteso dai gioiellieri, anche per i numerosi momenti dedicati all’aggiornamento professionale del mondo del dettaglio e per le presentazioni delle collezioni moda con le quali le nostre aziende e i nostri espositori inaugurano la stagione primaverile.

Il segnale che percepiamo è forte e positivo: le aziende investono in creatività e in nuove idee di prodotto, e lo fanno perché credono nel mercato italiano, così come credono nel Tarì.

Il calendario dei nostri appuntamenti si intensifica, non soltanto per il consolidamento delle date di business ormai tradizionali, ma anche per il programma di eventi e meeting annuali. Il Tarì rafforza così e valorizza la propria Mission: arricchire e completare il bagaglio di esperienza dei professionisti del dettaglio orafo, creando momenti di business specializzati per semplificare, selezionare e aggiornare l’offerta di prodotti e servizi indirizzati al retail, nella logica condivisa di allargare lo sguardo sulle esigenze del consumatore per consolidare la catena distributiva e migliorare le performance di vendita.

Puntare sul retail è una sfida alla quale crediamo da sempre, e sulla quale siamo più che mai disposti a scommettere. Noi non crediamo affatto alla crisi del retail orafo. Siamo piuttosto convinti che sia necessario esplorare nuove opportunità, per far sì che i 20.000 dettaglianti italiani che credono oggi nel futuro del gioiello si sentano sempre più partecipi, e protagonisti, del Cambiamento.

Un cambiamento che richiede che le professionalità dell’intera filiera orafa si arricchiscano e si consolidino, con il contributo indispensabile del Tarì.

Tre lettere per il futuro La Campania punta sulla Zes di Nando Santonastaso Editorialista del Mattino

Ci sono più incognite che certezze nella previsione del futuro a breve termine di una regione come la Campania che può a ben diritto essere ormai considerata il Nord del Mezzogiorno. Non tutte le incognite derivano da fattori endogeni, non tutte le certezze nascono al di fuori dei confini territoriali. Proviamo a spiegare. Gli ultimi due anni hanno segnato una piccola ma nient’affatto trascurabile svolta per il sistema economico campano: il Pil del settore manifatturiero è cresciuto del 3,2% solo nel

2017 e nessun’altra regione italiana ha fatto altrettanto. La politica dei Contratti di sviluppo, gestiti dalla Regione con il sostegno decisivo di Invitalia (e dunque del ministero dello Sviluppo economico) ha portato a casa risultati importanti per la ristrutturazione o il rilancio di aziende importanti per le quali il futuro sembrava a dir poco complicato.

E dalla Campania proviene il maggior numero di richieste di accesso alle risorse (a fondo perduto) di “Resto al Sud”, la misura che incentiva l’autoim-

prenditorialità giovanile e che il nuovo, attuale governo sembra disposto a garantire anche agli over 35. Per capirci, parliamo di un sostegno pubblico garantito al 100 per 100 a idee-progetti innovativi e non legati a lavorazioni tradizionali o di basso profilo.

Questi fattori endogeni, ai quali si possono aggiungere le buone performances del comparto turistico e dell’agroalimentare, da soli però non possono riportare ai livelli pre-crisi del 2008 il sistema economico campano. Basterebbe ricordare che dalla Campania come da tutto il Sud continuano ad arrivare segnali pesantemente negativi: il record di neet, ad esempio, ovvero di giovani che non studiano né cercano un’occupazione; o un reddito pro-capite inferiore quasi della metà a quelli medi del Settentrione; o picchi di disoccupazione giovanile che sanno di angoscia, sfiducia e disperazione infinite. Per non parlare della continua emorragia di “cervelli” e forza lavoro verso il Nord o verso l’estero che tutti denunciano ma nei cui confronti sembra impossibile qualsiasi strategia di contrasto. Di fronte a que-

sti scenari è sempre più indispensabile un adeguato sostegno pubblico che metta il Sud al centro del rilancio del Paese e garantisca il rispetto del dettato costituzionale in base al quale le Regioni ricche devono, e la parola non è casuale, sostenere gli sforzi di chi sta indietro. Al contrario, si è rafforzato il progetto di autonomia rafforzata fortemente voluto proprio dalle Regioni più forti, e già approdato in Parlamento. Una strada che rischia seriamente di compromettere non solo il futuro del Mezzogiorno ma anche la coesione e l’unità nazionale.

Da questo punto di vista il 2019 sarà sicuramente decisivo.

Ma l’anno che verrà per la Campania potrebbe anche incoraggiare il capitolo delle certezze a prescindere dalle decisioni del governo nazionale. Il futuro potrebbe racchiudersi in un acronimo di sole tre lettere, Zes, che sta per Zona economica speciale. E’ quella che proprio in Campania sarà al via per prima nel Mezzogiorno e che ha tutte le caratteristiche per trasformarsi in un fortissimi salto di qualità per l’economia e lo sviluppo di que-

sto territorio. La Zes è una legge nazionale che punta a costruire un sistema di sviluppo (e dunque di crescita e di occupazione) attorno ai porti e la Campania tra Napoli, Salerno e Castellammare di Stabia ha frecce importanti al proprio arco. Chi investe negli oltre 5mila ettari in cui la Regione ha delimitato il territorio della Zes (comprendendo di fatto grosse fette di tutte le cinque province) non solo avrà la possibilità di accedere ad un credito d’imposta significativo ma soprattutto di godere di facilitazioni burocratiche straordinarie, tali cioè da abbreviare al massimo i tempi normalmente lunghi di autorizzazioni, permessi, controlli e verifiche contabili. Una manna, insomma, per le imprese che continuano a scontrarsi con l’incognita-tempo ogni volta che programmano un nuovo investimento. Per dare un’idea di ciò che la Zes può garantire basta spostarsi in Europa verso l’Est: la Polonia che ha sperimentato per prima le zone economiche agevolate ne ha oggi 14 e tra Danzica e dintorni ha costruito in questi ultimi anni una crescita inarrestabile al punto da essere diventata il Paese Ue con

l’incremento maggiore di Pil, superiore persino alla locomotiva tedesca. Ma esperienze analoghe sono ormai presenti in molti altri Paesi di tutto il mondo, a cominciare dalla Cina, diventata potenza mondiale a tutti gli effetti anche grazie a un sistema di sgravi fiscali e facilitazioni normative di grande e riconosciuta concretezza. Ma per trasformare i porti e i relativi interporti (a partire da quello di Marcianise-Maddaloni nel Casertano) in asset decisivi per lo sviluppo occorre non solo guardare in casa altrui. Serve una governance intelligente e manageriale che riesca a bypassare gli immancabili e forse persino fisiologici conflitti tra enti, locali e non, ai quali è davvero difficile non attribuire la responsabilità dei tanti, troppi ritardi di queste aree. Sarebbe un delitto perfetto ripetere errori e omissioni di fronte alle tante eccellenze che pure sono nate in questi ultimi dieci anni in Campania e che altro non chiedono se non di far correre meglio e più in sicurezza merci, idee e progetti che fuori dai nostri confini molti magari conoscono ma che pochi ancora considerano competitivi.

Se un negozio potesse parlare, cosa direbbe ai clienti che lo visitano?

Pensiamo, tanto per fare un esempio, agli store Disney. Non sembrano creati apposta per assicurare i trenta minuti più felici della vita di un bambino? Alzi il dito chi non ha mai pensato che gli store Apple sembrano studiati per sembrare veri musei di arte contemporanea, nei quali i telefoni vengono esposti come veri e propri gioielli.

Sono luoghi in cui si incontra gente, ci si connette al mondo, ci si mostra come parte di un mondo very cool. Chi di noi non è mai entrato in quel magnifico mercato che è la Boqueria di Barcellona, nel quale anche una esposizione di frutta fresca è vero spettacolo di colori e geometrie, rispetto al quale il prezzo di una macedonia diventa un dettaglio di poca importanza?

L’esperienza del punto vendita è, oggi, a dispetto di tanti detrattori, una delle leve più strategiche dei brand. In quello che gli esperti chiamano “Customer journey”, ovvero il viaggio del

cliente dall’idea all’acquisto, l’importanza del punto vendita è fondamentale. Ma attenzione: non perché il punto vendita sia da considerarsi semplicemente come l’anello finale, l’atto di acquisto. Al contrario, perché il punto vendita è il luogo fisico in cui il cliente incontra la marca, e la marca lo conquista definitivamente. In molti hanno voluto celebrare da tempo il funerale di un malato che, nella realtà, gode di ottima salute. C’è da chiedersi tuttavia se non sia vero che il nostro malato debba fare una bella cura ricostituente.

E allora, torniamo alla domanda iniziale. Cosa comunichiamo alle persone che varcano la soglia del nostro negozio?

Oggi, Il customer journey è molto meno lineare che in passato e segue le nuove regole di marketing che il prof. Kotler, guru di queste disciplina, teorizza come le 5 rivoluzionarie A: Aware, ovvero Conosco Appeal - Mi piace Ask - Mi conviene Act - Compro Advocate - Consiglio

NEWS Dal primo step, nel quale i potenziali consumatori sono, spesso, passivamente esposti al messaggio pubblicitario del brand, si passa oggi alle leve più critiche, sulle quali bisogna lavorare con particolare attenzione. Ask significa “chiedo informazioni”. E’ il momento in cui il consumatore vuole saperne di più, e comincia ad acquisire le informazioni che gli servono attraverso vari mezzi: amici, social media, domande poste direttamente al brand.

Guai a non dare le giuste risposte: in caso negativo è come partecipare al gioco dell’oca, si torna indietro.

Se, persuaso dalle informazioni raccolte, il cliente decide di andare avanti, allora perfeziona l’acquisto, usa il prodotto e, se necessario, richiede assitenza. Solo dopo un certo tempo, quando l’esperienza del prodotto è risultata positiva, arriva il vero, auspicato risultato finale: il consiglio. Solo allora avremo costruito definitivamente la nostra reputazione.

Potremmo obiettare: noi non siamo il brand, noi siamo il negozio. Nessuna domanda potrebbe essere più sbagliata. Noi siamo il brand. Noi siamo l’esperienza del cliente, e quindi sempre Noi siamo il prodotto che acquista.

Proviamo a cambiare il punto di vista: ci renderemo conto che è proprio così. Siamo conosciuti nella nostra città? Le nostre vetrine, il nostro negozio, sono attraenti per i nostri potenziali clienti?

Sappiamo dare le giuste risposte a tutte le domande? Siamo in grado di trasformare l’atto di acquisto in un’esperienza gratificante e appagante per il nostro cliente? Siamo certi di averne conquistato la fiducia a tal punto che vorrà, spontaneamente, consigliare ai suoi amici di venire a visitarci?

Se tutte le risposte saranno state “Si”, allora saremo pronti ad affrontare il Futuro.

Tablet, computer e pc hanno preso il sopravvento ma la profezia di una società senza carta è stata disattesa: la vera sfida è trovare un equilibrio tra passato e futuro

E’ inutile negarlo, viviamo in una società in cui la digitalizzazione è ampiamente diffusa, ma siamo ancora lontani dall’utopia della “paperless society”, teorizzata alla fine degli anni Settanta da Frederick Wilfrid Lancaster, secondo cui la carta sarebbe gradualmente scomparsa a causa della diffusione dei dispositivi elettronici, entro la fine del diciannovesimo secolo.

Poco tempo dopo però, rendendosi conto dell’infondatezza di

tale previsione, spostò questa rivoluzione al 2090, concedendole ancora un po’ di tempo per l’attuazione.

Nonostante sia sotto gli occhi di tutti l’enorme diffusione dei dispositivi tecnologici e il conseguente trend della dematerializzazione e dell’archiviazione digitale, siamo ancora lontani dal poter affermare che la carta sia morta.

E’ vero che è difficile trovare un ragazzo che porti a stampare

le sue foto, ma allo stesso tempo è improbabile trovare in biblioteca uno studente che prepari il suo esame su un tablet e non su un libro.

Il contatto fra il libro e l’utente ed il “consumo” di materiali cartacei è ancora attivo e vitale, il fenomeno della bookless library, biblioteche dalle quali i documenti fisici sono totalmente assenti, è decisamente lontano.

Le aziende e i professionisti stampano meno e con più consapevolezza, ma stampano ancora: il traguardo attualmente è quello di integrare consuetudini e innovazione.

Una recente ricerca condotta da IDC (“Azienda del futuro e trasformazione digitale: sfide e opportunità per sprigionare i talenti”), ha verificato che gran parte delle aziende europee osteggiano la Digital Transformation a causa della resistenza culturale al cambiamento.

In Italia la situazione è esattamente questa: gli investimenti volti all’innovazione sono scarsi per reticenza al cambiamento.

Eppure stampiamo in minor quantità, con più qualità e attenzione

all’ambiente (ne è un esempio la stampa in fronte e retro).

La documentazione digitale sta affiancando il cartaceo nell’ottica di essere un valido alleato per incrementare efficienza, produttività e collaborazione, ed è questo equilibrio tra le parti la chiave del successo.

Nelle aziende si tende sempre più a integrare tutto ciò che riguarda la documentazione cartacea interna o quella relativa a clienti/fornitori con il digitale, grazie all’utilizzo di dispositivi innovativi quali multifunzioni, stampanti, scanner, smartphone, tablet, ecc.

In questo modo si evitano sprechi (acquisto di carta, cartucce e consumabili, faldoni per l’archivio in primis), e si garantisce una maggior produttività dei propri collaboratori. È proprio questo che incoraggia le aziende a intraprendere progetti di digitalizzazione all’interno degli uffici ed è fondamentale che gli investimenti pubblicitari coesistano in entrambi i mondi, digitale e cartaceo, che non devono prevalere l’uno sull’altro, ma viaggiare sempre in modo parallelo.

Per comprendere quali sono i bisogni dei nostri clienti possiamo sicuramente contare sui Big Data. Ovvero su quell’immensa riserva di informazioni e dati che in ogni momento immettiamo in rete e che gli archivi informatici raccolgono e incrociano in ogni momento nel web. Si tratta del misterioso, ma cruciale, meccanismo per il quale, tanto per fare un esempio, ad ogni film che selezioniamo sui Netflix segue un titolo che, generalmente ci viene suggerito come compatibile al 98% con i nostri gusti. Ma quanti di noi non si sono sentiti infastiditi da questo spocchioso atteggiamento, che vuole quasi farci credere che ci sia qualcuno, in una parte qualsiasi dell’universo informatico, che conosce praticamente tutto di noi? Cosa c’è di sbagliato negli infallibili algoritmi che seguono i nostri comportamenti e trasmettono certezze sulle nostre scelte di acquisto alle multinazionali? C’è, per fortuna, che quegli algoritmi non hanno anima.

Loro non sanno se, ad esempio, indossiamo un certo gioiello come portafortuna o se abbiamo una istintiva avversione per i gatti, o se non riusciamo ad iniziare la giornata senza aver fatto colazione con i nostri biscotti preferiti. Si tratta dell’attenzione al piccolo particolare, o meglio, a ciò che in nuovi marketer definiscono Small data. Là dove le macro tendenze si fermano esiste

oggi uno spazio insospettabilmente ampio e ricco di opportunità, dato dalle informazioni di dettaglio, cioè da tutte quelle informazioni, apparentemente insignificanti, ma che si rivelano in grado di trasformare completamente il modo in cui le aziende pianificano il proprio business e, soprattutto,si rivolgono al proprio cliente. Quale relazione può avere questa teoria con il mondo del gioiello? Sicuramente molto maggiore di quella che potremmo immaginare. Facciamo un solo esempio. Abbiamo mai considerato seriamente il fatto che la gran parte delle ragazze (quelle che definiamo Generazione Zeta) hanno un numero imprecisato di fori ai lobi delle orecchie? Prima di progettare, e produrre, l’ennesimo paio di orecchini che probabilmente non comprerebbero mai, forse dovremmo riflettere sul fatto che non li comprerebbero proprio perché sono “un paio” e non un set da 5! Non è un caso che siamo partiti proprio dalla Generazione Zeta, i ragazzi nati dopo il 2000. Idee chiare, pochi compromessi, zero improvvisazione. Tutti Instagram e Chiara Ferragni. Non comprano abiti, ma outfit. Non seguono le storie, ma le fotografano.

Proviamo ad inseguirli, ma restano sempre lontani da noi. Da facebook, da quando lo abbiamo occupato noi, sono addirittura scomparsi. Ogni occasione viene celebrata, per ricordare anni-

versari, amicizie, esami, litigi. Soldi in tasca: un po’ di più, anzi molti di più, di quanti ne avevamo noi. Spendaccioni? No, al contrario. Attenti al budget, confrontano prezzi, prodotti, siti specializzati. Sono loro i nostri prossimi clienti, quelli che dovremmo seguire e studiare con pazienza ed attenzione, per conquistarli per sempre. Molto diversi da loro, i celebratissimi Millennials.

Gli ultimi eredi dei grandi Brand sono loro: abbastanza vecchi da provare nostalgia, abbastanza giovani da non avere nuovi miti e nuovi modelli di consumo. Sono i nativi digitali, nati dopo gli anni ’80 e prima della fine del XX secolo. Hanno fatto a tempo a sentire raccontare dalle vive voci dei genitori i magnifici anni’80, ma di quella Italia da bere non hanno bevuto nemmeno un sorso. Sono i primi ai quali è stato negato il sogno del “cosa voglio fare da grande”. Della nostalgia dell’infanzia conservano l’idea di gioiello: un accessorio prezioso, che significa eleganza e personalità. Conservano la memoria di grandi brand e di new entry, facendo un po’ di confusione. E quindi citano Cartier e Bulgari insieme a Pandora, Swarovski e Tiffany, anche se spesso, per loro, il brand è un mito, un logo, non oltre.

Sono giovani nel gusto: minimale e contemporaneo. Si informano sul web ma preferiscono acquistare in gioielleria, dove non superano un budget di 200 euro, che dedicano alla celebrazione di se stessi*. Hanno quasi 40 anni, ma restano un mistero. Confusi e irrequieti, reclamano il sogno che gli è stato negato, e qualcuno che finalmente si accorga di loro. fashion revolution In che modo i protagonisti del digitale e i web influencer hanno rivoluzionato il mondo della comunicazione, della moda e del lusso: perchè ormai la dimensione virtuale è diventata più reale del reale

Una vera digital fashion revolution, è esattamente quello che sta accadendo nel mondo della moda: le influencer sono entrate nei templi dei brand più famosi, lo stile è sceso dalle passerelle e si aggira tra le strade delle nostre città.

La moda è approdata in una nuova era ed ha acquisito, attraverso le web influencer, due nuove anime: democrazia e libertà.

A segnare la fine di un'epoca elitaria, i numeri che contraddistinguono le influencer più celebri: tra tutte Chiara Ferragni che in pochi anni è diventata un punto di riferimento mondiale dello stile con i suoi 15,7 milioni di follower su Instagram e un'impresa che fattura più di 10 milioni all'anno.

I digital influencer interpretano stili e tendenze e mutano il linguaggio della comunicazione anche grazie alla street style photography: il futuro è che il consumo delle news e dei contenuti non è più passivo ed imposto da pochi mass media, ma ognuno di noi produce ogni giorno news e contenuti che spesso sono più rilevanti ed interessanti di quelli prodotti istituzionalmente dai media e dagli stessi brand.

La rivoluzione digitale ci mostra le nuove frontiere del marketing e le maggiori ripercussioni si verificano nel rapporto tra brand e consumatori: il modello di influenza non fa più riferimento a contenuti generati dal marchio, ma a contenuti realizzati da persone esterne al brand. Gli utenti cercano nello spazio digitale contenuti più autentici, interessanti e coinvolgenti, inoltre scelgono, interagiscono e ri-postano quello che a loro piace del brand, ma molto più spesso quello che viene generato da altri consumatori o influencer. Quello che conta è il valore del contenuto, non chi lo produce. Se in passato, infatti, erano le imprese a guidare le scelte del mercato attraverso una determinata pubblicità, ora i social network danno voce al consumatore: con Instagram, le regole del gioco sono cambiate perché lo sviluppo dei contenuti diventa un fenomeno sociale alimentato dalle dinamiche di interazione che si sviluppano online.

Tuttavia le aziende hanno capito che follower e like si possono comprare a poco prezzo e non vanno più alla ricerca di personaggi con 100mila follower. Oltretutto le nuove regole imposte dall'Antitrust italiano, limitano il fenomeno della pubblicità occulta nei post e hanno un po' sbiadito la rilevanza dei web influencer. Ciò che fa veramente la differenza è il talento e il modo in cui si comunica.

E' evidente ormai che l'efficacia della foto o del video con un determinato prodotto in vista, comunicato in modo freddo non ha alcun tipo di effetto persuasivo: quello che funziona è lo story telling. Quando l'influencer è in qualche modo realmente legato al prodotto, è in grado di differenziare realmente il marchio e di dargli una connotazione unica e creativa.

Quando ci intrufoliamo tra le pieghe di una tecnica che ha segnato la moda, ci rendiamo conto che il plissè ha lasciato un’impronta indelebile nella vita di tutti, stregando con una formula magica intere generazioni di donne.

Nel 1909 la moda sgrana gli occhi dinanzi alle lunghe e leggere tuniche ideate dal genio del famoso fotografo, pittore e couturier Mariano Fortuny. Quelle piccole pieghe delicate infatti si fanno notare ed evocano storie antiche traendo ispirazione dagli egizi e dalle statue elleniche: un modo per riconsegnare alla donna quello charme senza tempo che le appartiene di diritto.

La formula alchemica funziona e il plissè viaggia nel tempo adagiandosi sulle silhouette più iconiche dello stile come Marlene Dietrich, Grace Kelly e Jacqueline Kennedy, anche grazie alla mano sapiente di sua maestà dell’haute couture Madame Grès.

Tra gli anni ‘50 e ‘60 il plissè trova la sua massima espressione nella sensualissima Marilyn Monroe, in piedi sulle grate della metropolitana newyorkese e vestita di un impalpabile abito bianco plissettato che svolazza verso l’alto al passare del treno sotto di lei.

Negli anni tante sono state le interpretazioni di queste pieghe: Alberta Ferretti, Giambattista Valli, Blumarine ed Etro sono solo alcune delle griffe che hanno voluto ridisegnare il plissé tra geometrie e morbidezze, tra visioni eccentriche e recupero della tradizione anni ’50.

Uno stile sospeso sempre tra vintage e modernità, un occhio al passato e uno sguardo al futuro: un capo plissettato è un passepartout, un indumento sempre chic e decisamente furbo da tenere nell’armadio.

I plissé sanno infatti arricchire con la giusta discrezione qualsiasi outfit e, mixati a dovere, si adattano sia alle occasioni più eleganti che a quelle più informali.

Tra le increspature di una gonna infatti si possono celare mise raffinate, magari con l’aiuto di una camicia in seta, o super glam con un paio di sneakers sbarazzine!

Classica, bon ton, elegante e decisamente versatile, la gonna plissettata sa diventare il capo smart & chic dell’armadio: ideale da giorno a sera nelle lunghezze sotto al ginocchio, abbinabile con bluse, blazer corti, t-shirt negli stili più easycasual, può illuminare il look nelle varianti gold e lamé, strizza l’occhio al mood rétro e anni 70 nella versione con pattern grafici, ma stupisce tutti anche con la sua anima rock.

Attenzione però alla texture: le più longilinee non avranno problemi a indossare plissè impalpabili in seta, jersey o chiffon, mentre le donne curvy avranno bisogno di modelli più strutturati, in ecopelle o verniciati, per rendere armoniosa la silhouette.

Il lusso negli ornamenti ad Ercolano

Il Parco Archeologico di Ercolano apre, con una mostra dedicata al lusso, il programma “ERCOLANO 1738-2018 TALENTO PASSATO E PRESENTE” attraverso il quale intende dare nuovo stimolo alla valorizzazione dell’inestimabile patrimonio culturale rappresentato dai reperti provenienti dagli scavi novecenteschi.

Con queste mostre si pongono le basi per la definitiva esposizione nel museo del sito di tutti i reperti che dal 1927 in poi Amedeo Maiuri volle che restassero ad Ercolano e non confluissero più nelle collezioni del Museo Archeologico Nazionale di Napoli. Il processo nasce dalla volontà di colmare in tempi rapidi una terribile lacuna nell’esperienza di visita del sito e interrompere il silenzio che dura da oltre 40 anni: il pubblico deve potere ascoltare proprio nell’area archeologica il racconto proveniente dai numerosissimi oggetti d’uso comune: arredi, ornamenti personali e strumenti di lavoro, decorazioni, mobili in vario materia-

le, dell’incredibile mole di reperti provenienti direttamente dalle case, dalle strade, dalle mense degli antichi ercolanesi.

La prima mostra, “SplendOri. Il lusso negli ornamenti ad Ercolano”, visitabile fino al 30 settembre 2019, si propone di presentare al visitatore non semplicemente monili d’oro e oggetti preziosi, ma manufatti di uso personale e quotidiano. Gli oggetti provenienti dall’Antica Spiaggia carichi di valori simbolici e (non solo) di tipo economico, significativamente portati con sé dai rifugiati che attesero invano salvezza dal mare, restituiscono uno spaccato di vita che predilige ed esalta quest’aspetto della società ercolanese in tutte le sue sfaccettature. Per la prima volta una collezione di monili e preziosi, incredibile per quantità e valore, verrà presentata al pubblico sul luogo stesso del ritrovamento: nell’Antiquarium del Parco Archeologico. Ogni materiale esposto sarà messaggero di una storia di antico artigianato e mani-

fattura, di rango e di simbolo, di protezione e bellezza, oltre che dell’ulteriore valore acquisito per essere stato testimone della tragedia della città distrutta dalla furia del Vesuvio. La mostra SplendOri sarà inoltre animata con attività di laboratorio organizzate in collaborazione con il Tarì e con l’Istituto di Istruzione Superiore Francesco Degni di Torre del Greco, per rendere partecipi i visitatori dei processi di produzione e della tradizione artigianale plurisecolare che si è sedimentata in Campania.Dopo la mostra degli ori, nel 2019 il Parco Archeologico di Ercolano

offrirà al pubblico ulteriori occasioni per approfondire gli aspetti salienti e identitari dell’antica Herculaneum: la conoscenza dei luoghi, della storia e delle tradizioni dell’area vesuviana scegliendo sedi prestigiose del territorio come Villa Campolieto e la Reggia di Portici per altre due mostre che approfondiranno i temi dell’arte lignea e dell’alimentazione.

Un percorso, quello di “ERCOLANO 1738-2018” che avrà tra i propri obiettivi quello di legare il passato al presente per immaginare un futuro non immemore.

FUSION Si prospetta una fusione tra Design Thinking e Intelligenza Artificiale per potenziare e supportare i processi creativi per il business Quando facciamo riferimento al Design Thinking, parliamo di un approccio creativo e analitico alla risoluzione di determinati problemi: può essere quindi utilizzato per elaborare ogni questione che abbia bisogno di una soluzione, soprattutto a livello aziendale.

Per questo processo di problem solving è fondamentale un team fortemente eterogeneo proveniente da ambiti diversi che, partendo da un punto di divergenza forte, attraverso un confronto, trova risposta al problema aziendale posto. In pratica si analizza lo stesso fenomeno da diverse prospettive grazie ad una squadra mista, composta ad esempio da architetti, designer, ingegneri e archeologi.

Cosa accade però quando si incontrano Intelligenza Artificiale

e creatività? Il pericolo potrebbe forse essere quello di avere

come risultato finale una creatività artificiale o, al contrario, un potenziamento per le attività di business?

L’idea di base di questa fusion è quella di dare risposte a

problemi complessi combinando in maniera opportuna il pensiero creativo con il rigore scientifico. Un approccio ulteriore

di rifinitura costante delle soluzioni che mano a mano prendono

forma grazie a diversi portatori di conoscenza, esperienza e

competenza, ma anche attraverso l’aiuto di tecnologie digitali emergenti come l’Intelligenza Artificiale (IA).

Si tratta di integrare determinate forme di IA particolarmente creative a capacità analitiche, in genere supportate da

metodologie e tecniche quantitative, per riformulare i termini di un problema d’innovazione e arrivare alla formulazione di soluzioni “laterali”.

NEWS L’Osservatorio Design Thinking for Business del Politecnico di Milano ha esaminato la relazione tra Design Thinking e IA, partendo da un campione di 150 start up che offre soluzioni a supporto dei processi di Design Thinking. Su tale campione, solo 11 start up utilizzano l’IA per automatizzare e/o incrementare alcune fasi specifiche del processo, lasciando così tempo ed energia per la riflessione creativa.

Seppur ancora in minima parte, l’IA sta supportando in modo diversificato il processo creativo, non si sostituisce ad esso né definisce le soluzioni; pare che sia utilizzata particolarmente per gestire una mole di dati imponente e variegata e che acquisisca velocemente i dati per poi tradurli in forme visive che agevolano la condivisione e la discussione.

L’ IA supporta, seleziona e abbrevia i tempi, pertanto la sua fusione con il Design Thinking determinerebbe una riduzione al minimo dello sforzo umano per attività che avrebbero richiesto un impegno analitico importante, lasciando così spazio all’analisi creativa.

Alla scoperta del museo delle Madri

A Capua rivive una

Il Museo Provinciale Campano di Capua, fondato dal canonico Gabriele Iannelli nel 1870 ed inaugurato nel 1874 con un mirabile discorso dell’Abate Luigi Tosti è uno dei tesori più preziosi del patrimonio culturale della provincia di Caserta.

E’ stato definito da Amedeo Maiuri, tra i maggiori esperti dell’archeologia campana, “il più significativo della civiltà italica della Campania”, regione a cui Capua ha dato il nome.

Il Museo, di proprietà della provincia di Caserta, che sotto la guida del presidente Giorgio Magliocca ne ha avviato un importante progetto di valorizzazione, è ospitato nello storico palazzo Antignano la cui fondazione risale al IX secolo.

Nella varietà e vastità del patrimonio archeologico, storico, artistico e librario che ospita è lo specchio fedele ed eloquente

della trimillenaria vita di una metropoli che ha visto avvicendarsi nella sua duplice sede, di volta in volta, Osci, Etruschi, Sanniti, Romani, Longobardi, Normanni, Svevi, Angioini, Aragonesi, Spagnoli e così di seguito. I reperti che accoglie, di valore incalcolabile, sono tuttora oggetto di acute ed accurate indagini da parte di personalità culturali di alta qualificazione scientifica.

II Museo è diviso in due reparti: Archeologico e Medievale con annessa un'importante Biblioteca; occupa 32 sale di esposizione, alcuni depositi, tre grandi cortili, un vasto giardino.

A sinistra del cortile (dalla V alla IX sala) è ospitata la collezione delle "Madri", la più singolare e preziosa del Museo Campano, tra le più rare che Musei italiani e stranieri possano vantare.

Nell'anno 1845, in prossimità dell'antica Capua, vennero alla

luce i resti di una grande ara votiva con fregi architettonici, iscrizioni in lingua osca e statue in tufo. Dal 1873 al 1887 emerse dagli scavi archeologici un numero considerevole di statue in tufo riproducenti quasi tutte una donna seduta con uno o più bambini tra le braccia. La tesi che nel luogo dei ritrovamenti fosse esistito un tempio fu avvalorata dal fatto che tra le sculture solamente una differiva dalle altre per la spiccata sua impronta ieratica: invece di reggere neonati tra le braccia aveva nella mano destra una melagrana e nella sinistra una colomba, simboli della fecondità e della pace. Quella sola, dunque, doveva rappresentare la dea tutelare del tempio dedicato alla maternità. La dea era la "Mater Matuta", antica divinità italica dell'aurora e della nascita e le "madri" rappresentavano "ex

voto": offerte propiziatorie ed espressioni di ringraziamento per la concessione del sommo bene della fecondità. Nella sala dei mosaici spicca il "coro sacro", proveniente dal Tempio di Diana Tifatina (Sant'Angelo in Formis), di epoca Costantiniana (III secolo d.C.). Alla collezione vascolare appartengono vasi di ogni genere ed epoca, provenienti da zone differenti di sviluppo della cultura osco-campana e delle altre culture ivi attive nei secoli. Altra collezione imponente del museo é rappresentata dalla raccolta di terrecotte, di cui la maggior parte del VI-V secolo a.C., epoca della cultura italiota campana. Il reparto medievale conserva infine sculture dell'epoca di Federico II di Svevia, tra le quali i resti della monumentale Porta Roma in Capua (12341240);

Eco Fashion La sostenibilità della moda parte dal settore Design & Development: il progetto di un capo d’abbigliamento calcola il suo impatto ambientale

Quando si pensa alla moda sostenibile si tende ad esaminare il prodotto finale, il capo in sé e per sé, ma l’approccio green deve partire in realtà da molto lontano: dall’album degli schizzi, dalle moodboard, perché è in questa fase che i progettisti iniziano il processo di concretizzazione dell’idea di un abito e di un’intera collezione.

La sostenibilità nella moda non è un argomento “di moda”, ma un cambiamento radicale nel modello gestionale di una tra le più grandi industrie globali e maggiormente inquinanti.

Una trasformazione che coinvolge la chimica, il tessile, il mondo delle tecnologie e della logistica, l’industria degli accessori, la distribuzione, il terziario e – non ultima - l’agricoltura.

Per avere un approccio green sin dalle prime battute, è

fondamentale non solo che manager e designer siano maggiormente consapevoli e che abbiano strumenti specifici per valutare l’effetto inquinante di materiali e tecniche di stampa, ma anche che i loro progetti oltre a considerare i costi immediati di produzione, valutino l’impatto ambientale dell’intero ciclo di vita del capo.

I brand che danno molto peso alla sostenibilità sin dalle prime fasi di progettazione sono i marchi internazionali di sportswear e i grandi entry-price player, ma non solo.

Nike investe nella tecnologia e studia un app che possa agevolare i designer nella progettazione tenendo conto di eventuali sprechi in termini di acqua ed energia; Adidas è tra i fondatori di Parley for the Oceans, una community dove creatori, pensatori e leader

possono collaborare a progetti per proteggere gli oceani.

Il gruppo Inditex, più noto come Zara, ha investito in formazione aderendo a un programma della Global Fashion Agenda per l’economia circolare nel sistema moda grazie al quale entro il 2020 tutti i progettisti interni saranno istruiti sui diktat del design circolare.

Chanel ha detto addio alle pelli esotiche e nelle prossime collezioni spariranno coccodrillo, serpente e lucertola e Jean Paul Gaultier annuncia la sua svolta ecologica rinunciando a pelle e pelliccia.

Il tema è urgente e un numero sempre maggiore dei protagonisti del settore moda se ne stanno rendendo conto facendo della sostenibilità ambientale uno dei trend galoppanti del prossimo futuro: collezioni speciali, nuovi materiali, fornitori controllati, politiche green.

Le aziende devono adottare sistemi di produzione rispettosi dell’ambiente, della salute dei consumatori, dei diritti e delle condizioni di lavoro dei propri dipendenti.

Non solo, ma questo processo integrato di filiera trasparente potrebbe offrire molte possibilità occupazionali.

I favolosi anni ‘80 ritornano in auge con le loro forme esagerate, i colori fluo e le paillette che sbrilluccicano Basterebbe una sola parola per descrivere i magnifici anni ‘80: osare.

Eh si, perchè è stato un decennio pieno di contraddizioni, spesso criticato per i suoi eccessi, ma mai dimenticato per la sua grande personalità, ieri come oggi davvero di tendenza.

Facendo un passo indietro nel tempo, ci tornano alla mente icone ancora super cool: Cindy Crawford e le altre dive della

moda, Blondie, Madonna che impazza con la sua hit “Like a Virgin” tra guantini in pizzo e gioielli sovrapposti unlimitless, e ancora le spalline imbottite e gli immancabili jeans Levi’s 501, che tutti indossavano.

Sono questi gli anni in cui la donna acquisisce maggiore consapevolezza di sé e lo dimostra anche attraverso outfit eccessivi indossati con estrema disinvoltura e una punta di

sfacciataggine: le gonne vengono sostituite dai fuseaux, i colori neutri da stampe a pois o animalier, lo stile sobrio da look esplosivi.

Una stravaganza che ritorna sulle passerelle con Isabel Marant e le giacche dalle spalle over, Saint Laurent e i minidress cortissimi tempestati di paillette e strass, Mugler con i giochi asimmetrici, ma anche Just Cavalli, Giamba e tanti altri.

Quali sono i capi che rendono davvero una donna eighties addicted? Leggings, vestiti con paillette all over, gonne in tulle, chiodi in pelle, t-shirt oversize e accessori maxi, dai gioielli alle scarpe.

Se provate a ricordare le hit degli anni Ottanta dei Duran Duran o le note graffianti di Tina Turner, si materializzeranno davanti ai vostri occhi le spalle larghe, enormi maniche a sbuffo, chiome voluminose e maxi orecchini. Tutti tasselli che ci riportano sì al passato, ma in qualche modo anche al presente con le rivisitazioni del ‘power dressing’.

Il decennio più irriverente della moda ritorna riveduto e corretto con cinturoni dalla fibbia preziosa, le rouches, i rigidi collier, i pantaloni a palazzo a vita alta dalla linea scivolata, i colori fluo e le sneakers.

Femminilità ostentata ma anche puro divertimento estetico, perchè come cantava Cindy Lauper: “Girls just wanna have fun”.

Negli ultimi vent’anni l'industria del lusso ha sperimentato una serie di cambiamenti pervasivi che hanno progressivamente plasmato un nuovo panorama competitivo in cui i modelli di business tradizionali possono vacillare compromettendone una crescita profittevole e sostenibile nel lungo periodo.

L'appetito globale per i prodotti di alta gamma, in un'epoca contrassegnata dalla democratizzazione del lusso, sembra aver creato nuove sfide che vanno ben oltre la ricerca ossessiva di un equilibrio tra rarità e crescita. I recenti avvenimenti internazionali stanno minacciando la stabilità delle relazioni internazionali, generando tensioni tra i Paesi di tutto il mondo. Queste tensioni possono derivare da dispute politico-economiche (si pensi alle sanzioni europee contro la Federazione Russa), disaccordi diplomatici, conflitti religiosi o minacce di guerra nucleare e possono anche avere forti ripercussioni sul mercato. Uno scenario di questo tipo solleva seri dubbi sulla possibilità di re-

plicare l'immenso successo dell'industria del lusso nell'ultimo decennio. I nuovi “affluent consumers” russi e cinesi hanno perpetuato negli ultimi anni un ottimismo smisurato nei confronti del settore del lusso. Tuttavia, il recente rallentamento del settore del lusso richiede un ripensamento delle strategie di internazionalizzazione. Fino a quando questi mercati continueranno ad essere la terra delle opportunità per i marchi di lusso? Quali reali sfide presentano i canali digitali e la sofisticazione delle abitudini dei consumatori?

Proponendo modelli teorici interpretativi e analizzando dati empirici, lo studio ha confermato alcuni assunti di base. Per quanto riguarda le aziende del lusso, la costruzione - e il racconto – di un universo di marca onnitemporale e affascinante è il modo migliore per affermare la natura distintiva dell'azienda facendola emergere in uno spazio di mercato sempre più affollato. Per quanto riguarda la domanda, i fashion millennials si confermano protagonisti principali, con modelli di consumo mai sperimentati prima. Tuttavia, con riferimento al mercato russo, i risultati mostrano che l'insorgenza di sentimenti nazionalistici può generare nuove sfide per il mercato. Seguendo tale prospettiva, i marchi del lusso non possono trascurare la rilevanza delle alleanze strategiche con i partner locali, soprattutto nel contesto distributivo. Le partnership, infatti, posso scongiurare il pericolo di atteggiamenti ostili verso aziende

estere giudicate corresponsabili della crisi politico-economica che affligge il Paese.

Con riguardo al mercato cinese, i risultati dello studio dimostrano che, anche se le esigenze dei consumatori stanno diventando più sofisticate e orientate verso beni di lusso esperienziali, i valori culturali continuano ad esercitare un'influenza preminente. Questa condizione può avere ripercussioni positive per i marchi di lusso. Infatti, i risultati mostrano che gli atteggiamenti imitativi e le tendenze materialistiche possono contrastare i sentimenti etnocentrici dei consumatori cinesi e, allo stesso tempo, stimolare lo shopping di lusso su Internet indipendentemente dai potenziali danni all'industria nazionale. Inoltre, per sfruttare il più possibile le valutazioni positive e le intenzioni comportamentali inerenti ai beni di lusso stranieri, le aziende del lusso dovrebbero cercare di concentrarsi sul segmento più innovativo e cosmopolita della popolazione cinese, che può essere rintracciato nelle fasce più giovani, più istruite e con un reddito più alto. Le strategie di marketing dovrebbero cercare di enfatizzare l'"elemento estero", evitando la produzione locale (made in China) a favore della produzione nazionale al 100% (p.e., 100% made in Italy) e sviluppando campagne pubblicitarie localizzate e piattaforme personalizzate per le attività di e-commerce. La diffusione dei canali di shopping digitale, unita al successo degli attori locali dell'e-commerce, può offrire grandi opportunità per le aziende internazionali, a condizione che siano pronte a collaborare con gli attori digitali locali (es. Tmall, WeChat, ecc.).

Si fa presto a dire: "voglio cambiare!”.

Nella mia esperienza lavorativa con imprenditori titolari di un’attività economica - dalla micro alla grande impresa - questa affermazione perentoria è stata pronunciata qualche migliaio di volte.

Ma nella realtà, quando poi il percorso di cambiamento stava per essere avviato o era appena iniziato, è spes-

so accaduto che…non si cambiasse affatto.

C’è una ragione in tutto ciò: cambiare costa fatica e, in alcuni casi, dolore.

Per non parlare del fatto che cambiare richiede la conoscenza di come operare il cambiamento, altrimenti si rischia un vero e proprio lancio senza paracadute.

In occasione di un incontro formativo presso il Centro

d'Arte e Tradizione Orafa "Il Tarì" abbiamo parlato di “Pillole di CambiaMentE”.

Perché questo gioco di parole? È presto detto: il cambiamento nasce nella testa, più precisamente nel cervello delle persone e chi vuole cambiare deve prepararsi a cambiare testa, cambiare cervello, cambiare mente, intesa anche come modo di ragionare. Il problema di cambiare si pone in modo importante quando si decide consapevolmente di cambiare, quindi si cambia per scelta, ma diventa ancora

più impattante quando si è costretti a cambiare per necessità.

In questa seconda ipotesi - e può trattarsi di un qualsiasi evento “traumatico” - il senso di disorientamento prevale e va di pari passo con la paura di dover affrontare qualcosa di nuovo e sconosciuto: lasciare la zona di comfort per territori inesplorati e imprevedibili può essere anche terrificante per qualcuno.

La certezza però è una: nella vita imprenditoriale e lavorativa si cambia. Prima o poi si cambierà per volontà.

Primo o poi si cambierà per necessità.

Quindi conviene prepararsi al cambiamento, per gestire nel migliore dei modi il…CambiaMentE. Giusto per fare un esempio, fra i tanti che potrebbero essere menzionati, possiamo dire che gli esseri umani, ed anche gli imprenditori lo sono, vivono di relazioni.

Ogni relazione - con i dipendenti, con i clienti, con i collaboratori, con chiunque sia… - si realizza in un determinato contesto, per un certo periodo di tempo, in base alle caratteristiche e alle capacità delle singole

persone.

Che si incontrano e iniziano la relazione…perché hanno un bisogno. Cosa succede quando uno di questi elementi della relazione viene a modificarsi? Scatta la necessità di cambiare. A questo punto la relazione può essere trasformata o terminata: se è possibile si trasforma, ma se così non è occorre - serenamente iniziare a prendere strade diverse.

Tutto ciò per dire che il contesto nel quale un imprenditore lavora è molto fluido, in costante movimento e,

appunto, cambiamento.

Così come nel DNA dell’essere umano è insita la paura di cambiare, altrettanto vero è che nella vita professionale di una persona i cambiamenti sono una costante.

Quindi è bene mettersi l’anima in pace e prendere consapevolezza che quello che oggi è certo - nel lavoro come nella vita privata - fra qualche settimana può

cambiare e avviare una più o meno grande rivoluzione.

Già avere ben chiaro questo aspetto significa guardare al futuro con occhi e un approccio diversi, magari in modo più positivo.

Perché se è vero che il bicchiere talvolta è mezzo vuoto…probabilmente l’altra metà l’ho già bevuta!

English text The retail sector leads the field for change Tarì is in the midst of preparing its customary exhibition to usher in the new business year. Held in March, this rendezvous is dedicated to fashion collections and new jewellery trends for 2019.

An event eagerly awaited by jewellers who look forward to the numerous opportunities inherent in the professional update courses geared to the retail sector as well as to the moment when our companies and exhibitors unveil their Spring fashion collections.

We have a really good feeling about all of this. Enterprise is investing in creativity and new product ideas and this sense of optimism is down to their confidence in the market and in the Tarì jewellery centre.

Our appointments calendar is looking busy, not only because traditional business dates are being confirmed, but also because of the packed schedule of annual events and meetings. This is how the Tarì jewellery centre reinforces and elevates its mission - by building up and rounding off the expertise of its members in the gold-retail profession, creating specialised business encounters to simplify, select and update the lineup of products and services destined for the retail market. The idea shared by all involved is to open our horizons as regards consumer requirements to consolidate the distribution chain and boost sales.

Focusing on the retail sector is something we have always placed credence in and we are prepared to go to great lengths to achieve our goals. We refuse to believe that the gold-retail sector is facing any crisis. Quite the opposite, we are absolutely convinced that new openings have to be looked at so that the 20,000 Italian retailers who believe in the future of jewellery today continue to feel involved and take a leading role in this process of Change.

If this propitious shift is to take place, the entire goldsmithery supply chain must step up its efforts and consolidate its professional expertise - with a fundamental helping hand from the Tarì Jewellery centre.

Tree letters for the future There are more uncertainties than certainties when it comes to predicting the near future of the Campania region which is now has every right to call itself the (industrious) North of Southern Italy. Not all those uncertainties can be put down to local factors and not all certitudes are ascribable to external reasons. Let’s see if we can get our head round this together. Over the last two years, there has been a slight but by no means negligible shift in Campania's economic system. The GDP for the manufacturing sector grew by 3.2% in 2017 alone - something which cannot be said about any other Italian region. Handled by the Local Regional Government with the solid support of Invitalia (Italian national agency for inward investment promotion and enterprise development which, consequently, entails the support of the Ministry of Economic Development), development-contract policy has achieved impressive results in terms of restructuring or relaunching important companies over whose future a question mark previously hung, to say the least. And the lion's share of applications for (non-repayable) “Resto al Sud” funding comes from the Campania Region. “Resto al Sud” means “I am staying in the South” and is a subsidy programme due to be implemented by the newly instated Italian government aimed not only at young people who want to set themselves up in business but also includes candidates who are 35 or older. Basically, these state funds are fully guaranteed to innovative ideas/projects which cannot be classified as traditional or run-ofthe-mill activities.

However, these positive factors on a local level, albeit coupled with good performance levels from the tourism and agri-food sector, do not suffice alone to bring the economy of Campania back up to the pre-crisis levels registered in 2008. Unfortunately, the whole of Southern Italy including Campania continues to make news for all the wrong reasons. Campania has record numbers of NEETs (youngsters who are not engaged in employment, education or training); the per-capita income is lower by almost half of average ones in Northern Italy; unemployment amongst young people displays disheartening spikes that reveal the underlying climate of anxiety, hopelessness and lack of confidence in the future. Not to mention the ongoing brain drain and exodus of the workforce to Northern Italy or abroad. Everyone has an opinion to offer about the problem, but no-one seems to be able to come up with a solution. Given the circumstances, relauching the Italian economy by focusing on the South

and providing it with adequate governmental support is of pressing importance. Furthermore, this would be nothing more than observing the provisions of the Italian constitution which state that the wealthier regions must (sic.) sustain the efforts of those which lag behind. Yet, here we find ourselves in quite a different scenario. Pushed by the stronger Italian Regions, the project for autonomous rule has been submitted to the Parliament. The path that is being undertaken will not only seriously jeopardise the future of Southern Italy, but also that of Italy as a whole. By the looks of it, 2019 will be a critical year.

But next year could prove to be the one where certitudes are fostered in Campania regardless of the determinations of the central government.

What the future reserves for our region could be found in a three-letter word - SEZ (special economic zone). This is what will be set in motion in Campania as the first region in Southern Italy and it promises to be a powerful catalyst for the local economy and general development of the area. SEZ falls under a national law whose ultimate objective is to set up a development system (to stimulate growth and employment) around sea ports and, having Naples, Salerno and Castellammare di Stabia, Campania has various cards to play in this sense. Demarcated by the region, the SEZ area extends over more than 5 thousand hectares (encompassing large chunks of the five provinces) and any investors will not only benefit from sizeable tax credits but especially from simplified bureaucracy meaning that previously never-ending queues and interminable waits for authorisations, licences, inspections and audits will be a thing of the past. A real godsend for Italian enterprise which is used to struggling with the great unknown each time it makes a new investment.

To see just what a SEZ is about, all we have to do is take a closer look at a country in Eastern Europe. Poland was the first to experience what a free economic zone meant. Today it has 14 of them and, between Danzica and its surrounds, it has enjoyed exponential growth, so much so that it has become the European country with the greatest increase in GDP - beating even mighty Germany herself. Similar successes have been seen in many other nations across the globe, starting with China which has become a worldwide force to be reckoned with as a result of (amongst other things) tax benefits and special regulatory rules. There seems to be little doubt that this method works extremely well.

But turning ports and attendant intermodal hubs (the Marcianise-Maddaloni one in the Caserta area to begin with) into definite development assets we will have to do more than look over our neighbours’ fences. What is required is a smart managerial governance system that is able to override all those inevitable tensions between local and non-local institutes. They may be part and parcel of the whole process, but we can probably place responsibility for the inordinate number of delays at their door. Persisting in the error of our old ways by falling into bad old habits and allowing oversights to block our path would be truly unforgivable, especially in view of the outstanding achievements of the Campania region over the past ten years. All entrepreneurs are asking for is a safe and efficient way to convey goods, ideas and projects so they can reach customers who possibly know them but are looking for more competitive prices.

The eternal youth of the retail trade If a store could speak, what would it say to customers as they walk through the door?

Let's take a Disney store as our example. Aren’t they just the thing to make a child ecstatically happy for half an hour? Hands up if it has ever struck you that Apple stores look just like contemporary art museums where telephones are showcased as if they were rare artefacts. These are meeting places where people engage, connect and show that they belong to a very cool corner of the world. Who has ever visited that magnificent marketplace called Boqueria in Barcelona which includes a display of fresh fruit? It is a triumph of colour and form and the price charged for a fruit salad seems to be of little consequence compared to the spectacular sight before our eyes.

Despite many opinions to the contrary, our experience in a sales outlet is crucial to the way we perceive the brand. The experts talk about a customer journey which is the interaction between a client and an organisation, starting from the initial idea and in this, the sales outlet is strategically important.

But, it would be a mistake to consider the sales outlet as just being the last link in the chain - the place where we actually make the purchase. Indeed, the opposite is true. The sales outlet is the physical place where customers get to know the brand and the brand has the opportunity to win them over.

Many have been waiting for the sick man to die, but in actual fact, the invalid is in good health. Nevertheless, perhaps we should ask ourselves whether our convalescent would not benefit from a fortifying tonic.

And so let us return to our original question. What are we saying to the people who cross the threshold of our shop?

Today, the customer journey is much more complex than it used to be. It follows new marketing rules which Professor Kolter, a sales guru, has broken up into 5 game-changing categories beginning with an A: Aware, (I know) Appeal (I like) Ask (It is worth it) Act (I buy) Advocate (I recommend) Starting from step one when potential consumers are often exposed to a brand’s advertising slogans on a passive level, it then proceeds to explore the more critical stages where more attention must be paid. When we Ask, we request additional information. This is the moment in which consumers want to know more and begin to acquire information via a series of different channels - friends, social media and questions to the brand directly. Heaven forbid they get the wrong answer. It is a bit like Monopoly, you get it wrong, you go back to start.

If, on the other hand, customers like what they hear, they decide to continue their journey and finalise their purchase, use the product and, if necessary, ask for assistance. But the real kudos only comes after a certain length of time when the customer's experience of the product has been altogether positive. At that stage, we have the recommendation. And at that stage, we will have built up a reputation.

You may object here, thinking that you are not the brand, you are the store.

Nothing could be further from the truth. You are the brand. You are part of the customers’ journey and you are the Product they buy.

Try for a moment to change your viewpoint and you will see that it is so.

Are you well known around town? Are your shop windows and store décor appealing to potential customers? Do you have all the right answers to their questions? Can you turn the purchase into a gratifying pleasant experience for your customers? Are you absolutely confident that you have gained their trust to such an extent that they will advise their friends to come and visit your shop?

If you answered “Yes” to all the above, you are ready to tackle the Future.

Paper or Digital?

Tablets, computers and laptops definitely have the upper hand, but the prophesy of a paperless society has not been fulfilled. Now the real challenge is to settle on the right balance between past and future.

There is no denying it. In today’s society digitalisation is widespread, yet we are still quite far away from the utopia of the paperless society envisioned

by Frederick Wilfrid Lancaster in the late seventies who believed that paper would have gradually been phased out by the rise of electronic devices, disappearing entirely by the end of the nineteenth century.

Sometime afterwards, though, he must have realised that his prediction was shaky and deferred the paperless revolution to 2090, giving us a little more time to implement it.

And so, even though the advancement of technological devices and the ensuing trend for dematerialisation and digital filing is an irrefutable fact, we are still way off being able to state that paper is dead.

Whilst it is true that no youngster nowadays would dream of taking in photos to be printed, students swotting over a tablet are few and far between. Most people use books in a library to prepare for exams.

The physical pleasure of touching the written page and the “consumption” of paper-based materials still constitute an integral and crucial part of our lives. The bookless library, a place which is totally devoid of actual documents, is still quite remote as a phenomenon.

Enterprise and professionals are printing less and less. Levels of awareness about the dangers of printing are acute, but that doesn’t mean we don’t print. The current goal is to find a place where old habits and innovation meet in the middle.

A recent survey conducted by IDC (“The company of the future and digital transformation - challenges and opportunities aimed at unlocking talent) revealed that a large number of European companies are resisting the digital-transformation process because they find it culturally difficult to accept change.

This is precisely the case in Italy. Few investments are allocated to innovation simply because people naturally hold out against change.

Yet we are using printers increasingly less and our attention is absorbed by quality and environmental issues (many of us opt for duplex copying). Digital documents exist alongside paper- based ones. The idea is that together they work in tandem to generate efficiency and productivity, delivering team results. This ideal balance between the two modes truly is the key to success.

By using innovative devices such as multifunctional printers, scanners, smartphones, tablets and the such like, companies are increasingly

backing up all their internal paperwork or client/supplier documents with digital copies.

This avoids waste (it leads to fewer purchases of paper, ink cartridges, consumables, binders and box files to name but a few), but it also steps up worker productivity.

And this is exactly what prompts enterprise to undertake digitalisation projects inside their offices and it is vital that advertising campaigns continue to invest in both directions. Digital and paper- based records must co-exist side by side without any fear of one prevailing over the other. Both are a fundamental part of our world.

Small data is the next big thing Knowing your customers by watching macrotrends and picking up on little clues If we want to discover what our customers’ needs are, one reliable source of information is Big Data. Meaning that immense store of information and data that we constantly feed into the network and that the computer archives gather and intersect on the web all the time. It is a mysterious yet vital mechanism whereby each time we choose a film on Netflix, the title of another one pops up and it is 98% compatible with our viewing tastes. But this smug certitude somehow bothers us, doesn’t it? Is it really to be believed that someone somewhere in the IT universe knows every single thing there is to know about us?

What really bugs us about those infallible algorithms sent to track our behaviour and relay unquestionable facts about our buying habits to multinational corporations? The trouble is that these algorithms are soulless - fortunately. They don’t know if we wear a special good luck charm to get through the day, if we have a secret distaste for cats and steer clear of felines, or if we need a certain biscuit brand for breakfast to get out of the door in the morning.

All the examples above are little details, or, what new marketers would define as small data. Surprisingly enough, at the point where macrotrends end, there is a tremendous window of opportunity ensuing from all those seemingly trivial little details which can, though, completely transform the way enterprise plans its business activities, and especially, the way it interacts with its customers.

But what does this theory have to do with the jewellery trade? Much more than you could possibly imagine. Let me give a case in point. Have you ever seriously wondered why most girls (those belonging to Generation Z) have an untold number of holes in their earlobes? Before designing and producing that umpteenth pair of earrings that they are highly unlikely to buy, perhaps we should consider the fact that the reason they won’t buy them is because they come in a pair, not a set of 5!

And it is not coincidental that our chosen example was Generation Z - the youngsters born after 2000. Clear ideas, no compromises and no last-minute surprises. All Instagram and Chiara Ferragni. They don’t buy dresses, they buy outfits. They don’t follow stories, they make them. We try to keep up with them, but somehow they are always one step ahead. Since we arrived on Facebook, they have practically vanished. Each single occasion is celebrated to mark birthdays, friendships, exams and quarrels. As for money, they are better off than we were, quite a lot better off. Spendthrifts?

Quite the opposite. Careful not to exceed their set budget, they compare prices, products and specialised sites. They are our next customers and if we want to win them over, we will have to study them carefully and patiently to see what makes them tick.

On the other hand, the famous Millennials are quite another kettle of fish.

They are the last heirs of the big brand names. Old enough to feel nostalgic and young enough not to have new idols and new consumption patterns.

Also falling into the classification of digital natives, they were born after the ‘80s and before the end of the twentieth century. They were around early enough to hear first-hand tales from their parents about the years of plenty during the glittering ‘80s, but they didn’t get as much as a look in. They were the first generation who didn’t get to dream about what they would do when they “grew up”. But the allure of a precious jewel still percolates through from their childhood - it is a prized accessory which symbolises elegance and personality. They remember legendary brand names and know about newer ones, but it is all muddled together. So they talk about Cartier and Bulgari in the same breath as Pandora, Swarovski and Tiffany, although frequently a brand is just a fabled name, a logo, and nothing more. Their youthful spirit transpires from their aesthetic tastes - minimalist and contemporary. They gather information on the internet but they prefer to buy from jewellery stores and they don’t overspend. The set budget is € 200 which they use to treat themselves*. They are going on forty, but still remain an enigma. Dizzy and restless, they chase after a stolen dream and long for someone to finally notice them.

Digital revolution Just how do digital stars and web influencers touch the world of communication, fashion and luxury? Because nowadays the virtual dimension has become more real than reality.

The fashion world has been swept by an authentic digital revolution. Influencers have stepped into the temples of the most famous brands and style has descended from the catwalk and reached our city streets.

Fashion has set foot in a new era and, through the web influencers, has taken on two new facets - democracy and freedom.

The numbers speak for themselves and mark the end of an epoch of the élite few. The first of the best known influencers is Chiara Ferragni who has become an international star of epic proportions in only few years with 15.7 million Instagram followers and a company with a turnover of more than 10 million per annum.

Digital influencers put their own personal slant on styles and trends, changing the language of communication by bringing photography down to street level. The future has already begun and it has done away with the idea of news and contents imposed by a select number of mass-media corporations to be passively consumed by the masses. Today anyone can produce news items and contents that are frequently more relevant and interesting than those officially published by the media and the brand names themselves.

The digital revolution has pushed back the frontiers of marketing and has mainly affected the relationship between brands and consumers. The influence model no longer relates to general brand contents, but to contents created by people external to the brand.

What people want from the digital dimension are more authentic, interesting and engaging contents - something they can choose and interact with. The most appealing items are reposted by the public, and more often than not, the best contents have been generated by other consumers or influencers. What counts is the actual value of the contents, not who has produced it.

Indeed, whereas in the past enterprises steered market choices by launching a given advertisement, today social need serves as a voice for consumers. With Instagram, the rules of the game have changed because developing contents has become a social phenomenon stoked by online interaction dynamics.

However, businesses have grasped that followers and likes can be bought at a good price and they no longer seek out account holders with 100 thousand followers. Furthermore, the new rules set forth by the Italian Antitrust Authorities limit the phenomenon of hidden advertising in posts, lessening the importance of web influencers. What really counts is pure talent and the way communication takes place.

It is plain for all to see that the power of a photograph or video showing a product is diminished greatly if it conveys a cold impersonal message. It needs to be persuasive. It has to be a well told story. When an influencer forms a real bond with a product, this sincere attachment transpires, making the brand stand apart from the others and elevating it with a unique creative vibe.

Plissé, mercì Pleating has made a comeback and it doesn’t look like it will be a passing fancy, but a style worthy of respect which can be adapted to any kind of outfit. A fashion rage that cannot be faulted (or folded!)

When we explore the ins and outs of this fascinating dressmaking technique, we realise that pleats have strongly impacted all our lives, exerting a powerful influence on countless female generations.

In 1909, the fashion world marvelled at the flowing gowns designed by the gifted and world-famous photographer, painter and couturier Mariano Fortuny. Universally admired, the fine pleats were reminiscent of Ancient Egyptian statues and Grecian goddesses. It was a perfect way to restore that legacy of timeless charm that is every woman's birthright.

Pleats continued to enchant and the magical journey proceeded over time, gracing the extraordinary figures of style icons like Marlene Dietrich, Grace Kelly and Jacqueline Kennedy with a helping hand from the Queen of Drapery, Madame Grès.

Between the ‘50s and ‘60s pleats were consummately interpreted by the ravishingly beautiful Marilyn Monroe who stood over the subway grating in New York in a stunning pleated white dress which flew up over her hips with the force of the updraft as the train passed beneath.

retti, Giambattista Valli, Blumarine and Etro are only a few of the designers who have reworked pleats, each with their own personal take which ranged from sharps geometrics, soft creases, exuberant visions of style and a throwback to ‘50s traditions.

Poised between vintage and modern, this fashion combines elements of the past and future. A pleated piece is invariably versatile, incontrovertibly chic and always a smart addition to any woman's wardrobe.

Pleats whisper, they don’t shout, yet they seem capable of elevating any outfit and a discerning eye will mean they can be either dressed up or dressed down according to requirements.

Paired with a silk blouse, a prettily pleated skirt will bring out the best in any polished look, otherwise, worn with a pair of sneakers, it can be turned into a gamine look.

Classic, ladylike, elegant and undeniably versatile, a pleated skirt should be everyone's closet staple. In a knee-length version, it is ideal as a piece of dawn-to-dusk wear, especially when donned with a blouse, short blazer or casual-looking tee. But it is worth trying in lamé or gold as it reverberates with retro allure, or in true ‘70s-style with graphic patterning and a raunchy amped-up vibe.

But be fussy about what material you choose. The willowy gals can get away with wearing ethereal pleats in silk, jersey or chiffon, whilst curvy ladies should go for more structured flattering styles cut from faux or coated leather.

SplendOri (Gilded Splendour).

Opulent ornaments in Herculaneum The Archaeological Park of Herculaneum opens with a display dedicated to luxury. The programme entitled “ERCOLANO 1738-2018 TALENTO PASSATO E PRESENTE” (HERCULANEUM 1738-2018 TALENTS OF THE PAST AND PRESENT) aims to inject new lymph into the drive to promote the priceless cultural heritage of the artefacts unearthed at twentieth-century excavations.

These displays lay the foundations for a permanent exhibition in the on-site museum meant to house the artefacts that, from 1927 onwards, Amedeo Maiuri thought should stay in Herculaneum rather than going to line the display cases of the National Archaeological Museum of Naples. The idea behind this stems from a need to rapidly redress an unacceptable situation - the site-visitor experience. It was crucial to break a 40-year silence that had relegated Herculaneum to a position of anonymity. The general public had to be able to come to the archaeological area and tune into the stories coming from numerous everyday objects such as furnishings, personal ornaments, work tools, decorations and furniture made from a variety of materials - all of which came straight from houses, roads and eateries of the ancient inhabitants of Herculaneum.

The first exhibition is called “SplendOri” (Gilded Splendour). Opulent ornaments in Herculaneum” and it is open to visitors until 30 September 2019.

It intends not only to show visitors gold jewellery and precious objects, but personal items that were used on a day-to-day basis. The objects retrieved from the Ancient Beach are loaded with symbolic significance and financial value (but not only). Interestingly enough, those fleeing from Herculaneum who sought in vain salvation in the sea brought these objects with them.

The insight they give into Herculaneum society in all its diversity is of immense worth. For the first time, a collection of jewels and precious objects which is phenomenal in terms of value and quantity will be put on display in the same place it was found - the Antiquarium of the Archaeological Park. Each single piece exhibited will act as a bearer of a history of ancient craftsmanship and workmanship, reverberating with high rank, symbolic value, a sense of protection and immense beauty as well as being silent but expressive witnesses to the tragic eruption of Vesuvius that destroyed the city. The SplendOri exhibition will also feature exciting laboratory activities organised in conjunction with the Tarì goldsmithery centre and the Higher Education Institution “Francesco Degni” in Torre del Greco - something which will give visitors an idea of the centuries-old production processes and artisanal traditions that are an intrinsic part of Campania's roots.

In 2019, after the gold exhibition, the Archaeological Park of Herculaneum will be offering the public other opportunities to find out more about ancient Herculaneum, its main features and intimate identity. People will be able to find out about the places, history and traditions of the area around Vesuvius by soaking up the atmosphere in gorgeous local locations like Villa Campolieto and the Royal Palace of Portici for another two exhibitions which will explore wood craft and food.

One of the objectives of “ERCOLANO 1738-2018” is to connect the past to the present and envision an indelible future.

Fusion A fusion between design thinking and artificial intelligence seems to be on the cards, the idea being to nurture and boost creative processes for the business world.

What we mean by design thinking is a creative analytical approach aimed at solving a given problem. What this means it we can use it for any issue that requires a solution and this is especially relevant for the corporate universe.

This kind of problem solving calls for an extremely heterogeneous team made up of individuals coming from different backgrounds. When they have little in common, people are forced to come to terms with their dissimilarities and this generates an answer to the company's question. Basically, the same issue is scrutinised from multiple points of view by a diverse group made up of architects, designers, engineers and archaeologists, for instance.

But what happens when creativity meets artificial intelligence? Could we run the risk of generating artificial creativity or, at the opposite end of the scale, might we obtain enhanced business operations?

The driving concept behind this fusion is to find an answer to complex problems by drawing on an appropriate mixture of creative thought and scientific rigorousness. It is one step further and another way to hone a solution-finding process that produces ideas thanks to the activities of various players bringing knowledge, experience and skills to the table. But their endeavours are helped along by emerging digital technologies, like Artificial Intelligence (IA).

It is a question of merging certain particularly creative forms of IA with analytical abilities, generally supported by quantitative methods and techniques in order to reformulate the main aspects of an innovation problem and achieve the formulation of “lateral” solutions.

The Design-Thinking-for-Business Observatory at the Polytechnic University of Milan has examined the relationship between design thinking and IA, having based itself on a sample of 150 start ups which offer solutions supporting design-thinking processes. Of this sample, only 11 start- ups use IA to automate and/or boost certain specific phases of the process which would save time and energy for the creative stage.

Albeit to a minor extent, IA is sustaining the creative process in different ways without actually replacing it or establishing solutions. It appears to be especially useful whenever a vast and varied mass of data is involved because IA is able to acquire the information rapidly and turn it into a visually acceptable form which makes it easier to share and discuss.

IA lends support, selects data and speeds matters up. This is why fusing it with design thinking would make sure human effort is kept to a minimum so that people would not have to waste energy on something that would have occupied a great deal of time to analyse and can dedicate themselves to the creative side of things.

The town of Capua revives a story that goes back thousands of years Exploring the museum of the Mothers (Madri)

by Francesco di Cecio Founded by the canon Gabriele Iannelli in 1879 and inaugurated in 1874 with a rousing speech by the Abbot Luigi Tosti, the Museo Provinciale Campano di Capua (Provincial Campania Museum of Capua) is one of the most precious treasures of cultural heritage in the province of Caserta.

Prof. Amedeo Maiuri was one of the highest archaeological authorities for the Campania region and he defined the Museum as “the most significant one of Italic civilisation for Campania”. Interestingly enough, Capua actually gave its name to the Campania region.

Housed in the historical Antignano building which dates back to the ninth century, the Museum is owned by the province of Caserta and is part of an important development project launched under the capable leadership of president Giorgio Magliocca.

The sheer extent and variety of archaeological, historical, artistic and literary heritage it contains is a faithful and revealing reflection of three thousand years of life of a city which has witnessed, in its two separate locations, the presence of various settlers over time - Opicans, Etruscans, Samnites, Romans, Lombards, Normans, Swabians, Angevins, Aragonese, Spanish and so forth. The artefacts on its premises are priceless and are still the object of painstakingly thorough examinations by leading figures in the scientific and historical community.

The Museum is split into two sections: Archaeological and Medieval with an extensive appurtenant Library; it occupies 32 exhibition rooms, several storerooms, three large courtyards and a huge garden. To the left of the

courtyard (from the fifth to the ninth room), visitors can enjoy viewing the Mothers (Madri) collection: this is the most distinctive and valuable one in the Campania Museum and is one of the rarest in existence in Italy and abroad. In 1845 the remains of a large place of worship were unearthed near the ancient town of Capua. This sanctuary had architectural friezes and inscriptions in the Oscan language as well as statues in tuff. From 1873 to 1887, a significant number of tuff statues were recovered during the archaeological excavations and almost all of them showed a seated woman with one or more children in her arms. The theory that a temple had stood on this spot was corroborated by the fact that only one of the statues was in fact different to the others. It was clearly hieratic and, instead of holding a baby in arms, it grasped a pomegranate in the right hand and a dove in the right - symbols of fertility and peace. Therefore, this statue alone must have represented the goddess who protected this temple dedicated to motherhood. The goddess was Mater Matuta, an ancient Italic divinity of dawn and births and the mothers were ex votos - propitiatory votive offerings and expressions of gratitude for the all-important gift of fertility.

In the mosaic room, the sacred choir (coro sacro) particularly stands out.

It comes from the Temple of Diana Tifatina (Sant'Angelo in Formis) dating back to Constantinian times (third century A.D.). The vase collection boasts specimens of all kinds and epochs which go back to various moments of development of the Campania-Opcan culture and other local cultures over the centuries. Another impressive collection inside the Museum is an assortment of earthenware, mostly dating back to the sixth and fifth century B.C., the epoch of Italiote culture in Campania. Last but not least, the Medieval section preserves sculptures from the era of Frederick II, including the remains of the monumental Porta Roma in Capua (1234-1240);

Eco Fashion Eco-sustainability in the fashion sector has to start with design and development. The impact that a piece of clothing has on the environment must be calculated at the planning stage.

When we think about sustainable fashion, we tend to imagine the end product - the actual garment. But the green approach has to start way back at the drawing board and the moodboard because this is the time when designers start to turn the concept of a dress and an entire collection into reality.

Fashion sustainability has little to do with fashion. It must necessarily involve a dramatic shift in the management models of one of the biggest and most polluting industries in the world.

This transformation relates to chemistry, textiles, technology, logistics, the accessories industry, distribution, the service sector and, last but by no means least, the farming industry.

The green approach has to come into play in the early stages. Managers and designers do not only have to become more aware and have specific instruments that allow them to gauge the impact on the environment of materials and printing techniques, it is also vital that their projects do not only take into account the immediate production costs, but also assess the effect on the environment of the garment’s entire life cycle.

Brands that take sustainability seriously from the planning stage are international sportswear corporations and big entry-price players, but others exist as well. Nike invests in technology and is working on an app that should be able to facilitate designers in the initial phase by keeping track of water and energy wastage; Adidas is one of the founding members of Parley for the Oceans - a community where creators, thinkers and leaders can come together to raise awareness about the beauty of our oceans and how to protect them.

The Inditex group, better known as Zara, has invested in training and takes part in a programme of the Global Fashion Agenda for the circular economy in the fashion system. By 2020, all in-house designers will be brought up to speed on the main parametres of circular design.

Chanel has relinquished exotic leathers and as from the forthcoming collections crocodile, snake and lizard skin will be vanishing from their lineup.

Jean Paul Gaultier is contributing to the environment by giving up leather and fur. There is a certain urgency to matters and a growing number of names in the fashion industry are realising how big the problem is, meaning that environmental sustainability is one of the strongest trends in the near future - special collections, new materials, monitoring drives on suppliers and green policies.

Enterprise must adopt manufacturing systems that respect the environment, consumers’ health and the rights and working conditions of its own workers. This integrated transparent supply-chain process could lead to significant employment openings.

The Exciting Eighties The electrifying ‘80s are back in fashion again with their strong silhouettes, neon colours and scintillating spangles.

The sense of exhilaration of the ‘80s can be summed up in one single word - audaciousness. Indeed, because it was a contradictory decade frequently criticised for its decadence but eternally remembered for its powerful personality which reverberates as much today as it did then.

So let's take a step back in time and recall all those amazing icons who still exude cool factor now: Cindy Crawford and the other supermodels, Blondie and Madonna who was all the rage with her all-time favourite “Like a Virgin” cavorting with her heavily layered costume jewels and lace gloves, not to mention the padded shoulders and Levi 501 jeans that were ubiquitous at the time. These were the years when women gained more confidence as evidenced by the excessive outfits they donned with nonchalance, not to say insolence. Skirts gave way to leggings, subtle palettes were replaced by polka dots or animal prints and sobriety went out the window to make room for oomph.

This resurgence of outrageousness has hit the catwalk again with Isabel Marant and her big- shouldered jackets, Saint Laurent and his skimpy mini-dress strewn in sequins and rhinestones, Mugler with his asymmetrical designs and much more from Just Cavalli, Giamba and others.

So which pieces really allow us to classify a woman as being Eighties-addicted? Leggings, dresses liberally covered in sequins, tulle skirts, black leather jackets, oversized t-shirts and maxi accessories, from jewellery to shoes. Close your eyes and bring to mind the eighties’ hits by Duran Duran, or the gravelly voice of Tina Turner. Immediately those musical notes will conjure up images of big shoulders, huge puffed sleeves, big hairdos and huge earrings. A blast from the past, but somehow very relevant to our society today with all the re-imagining of power dressing.

The most excessive decade of fashion has been revived and refreshed with sparkly ankle buckles, ruffles, necklets, fluid high-rise palazzo pants, neon colours and sneakers.

Fervently feminine yet fabulously fun too, because as Cindy Lauper said in her famous song “ Girls just wanna have fun”.

Luxury in a global and digital age Empirical evidence from the Russian Federation and China.

As a matter of fact, the luxury industry has experienced a series of dynamic and pervasive changes in the past twenty years. Globalization, economic trends, digital transformation and evolved consumer behaviour have progressively shaped a new competitive landscape where traditional business models may vacillate compromising a profitable growth. The global appetite for luxury goods in an era characterized by the democratization of luxury seems to be challenged by new threats that go far beyond the obsessive search for a balance between rarity and growth. Recent international events are threatening the stability of international relations, thereby generating tensions among countries throughout the world. These tensions may stem from political–economic arguments (e.g., European sanctions against the Russian Federation), diplomatic disagreements (e.g., Trump’s threats to dismiss NAFTA), religious conflicts, or nuclear war threats (e.g., as recently experienced in the case of North Korea’s nuclear tests) and may also have strong repercussions in the marketplace. Such a scenario raises serious doubts about the possibility of replicating the immense success of the luxury industry during the last decade. Newly rich Russian and Chinese consumers have perpetuated the optimism regarding the luxury sector in recent years. However, the recent slowdown in the luxury sector requires a rethinking of internationalisation strategies. Will these markets continue to be the lands of opportunity for luxury brands? Furthermore, the power of digital channels and the sophistication of consumer habits are adding other challenges. By proposing theoretical frameworks and analysing empirical data, the study has confirmed some assumptions. Regarding the company side, the ability to construct – and tell about – an omni-temporal, fascinating brand universe is the best way to affirm the distinctive nature of the company and to emerge in an increasingly crowded marketspace. As to the demand side, millennials confirm their role as the main protagonists, with consumption patterns never experienced before. However, as regards the Russian market, the results show that the insurgence of nationalistic feelings may generate new challenges for the market. Nevertheless, luxury brands must not neglect the relevant role of strategic alliances with local partners, above all in the retail context.

In terms of the Chinese market, the findings of the study demonstrate that, even if consumers’ needs are becoming more sophisticated and oriented toward experiential luxury goods, cultural values still exert a prominent influence. This condition may have positive repercussions for luxury brands.

In fact, the results show that the bandwagon effect and materialism can counter the ethnocentric feelings of Chinese consumers and, at the same, spur luxury shopping on the Internet regardless of the potential damage to the nation’s industry. Moreover, in order to exploit as much as possible the positive evaluations and behavioural intentions regarding foreign luxury goods, luxury companies should try to focus on the most innovative and cosmopolitan segment of the Chinese population, which can be found in the younger, better educated and upper income segments. Marketing strategies should try to emphasise the “foreign element”, avoiding local manufacturing in favour of 100% domestic manufacturing and developing localized advertising campaigns and customized platforms for e-commerce activities. The spreading use of digital shopping channels, combined with the success of local cross-border ecommerce players, can offer great opportunities for international companies, provided they are ready to cooperate with local digital actors (i.e., Tmall, WeChat, etc.).

Cambiamente It is one thing to say: “I want to change!” and another one to actually do it. In my working career, which has brought me into contact with entrepreneurs pursuing business activities of varying sizes (small firms to large companies), I must have heard this statement made categorically some thousands of times. Because in actual fact, when the process of change was about to start or was just underway it often happened that...nothing was changed at all. There is a reason for this, of course. Changing is hard work. In some cases, it is even painful. Not to mention the fact that if you want to change, you have to know how to go about it first, otherwise, you risk taking a leap from a height without a parachute to save your fall. During a training session at the Tarì Goldsmiths’ Centre, we talk about “Training Capules to change Our Mindset” (Pillole di CambiaMentE).

So why did we choose this title?

That is easily explained. All change begins in our minds, or better stated, in people's brains. Whoever wants to change must be prepared to alter approach, mindset, to take a different attitude, to see things from a different angle and think differently. Change impacts on our lives significantly when we make a conscious choice to change.

We need to decide to change for it to make a difference, but it affects us even more when we are forced to change out of necessity.

In the second case, change could be brought about by some form of traumatic event and our sense of disorientation will be overwhelming. The fear of having to tackle something new and take on the challenge of the unknown means that we have to leave our comfort zone and explore unfamiliar territory. The sheer unpredictability can prove to be a terrifying experience.

But there is one thing you can count on in life and work - you will change.

Sooner or later you will change because you want to.

Sooner or later you will change because you have to.

The best plan is to prepare for change so you are ready for it when it comes…this means changing MindSet. There are several examples worthy of mentioning, but an important one to be borne in mind is the fact that human beings (and that includes businesspeople) thrive on relationships.

Whether it be with employees, customers, collaborators or anyone else, all relationships take place under certain circumstances, for a given period of time and based on the characteristics and capabilities of the individuals involved. We meet each other and enter into a relationship ...because we feel the need to.

But what happens when one side of the relationship begins to undergo a transformation?

This is where change come in.

At this juncture, the relationship either morphs or comes to an end. If it is possible, various aspects of the relationship start to modify but, if this is not on the cards, the two participants in the relationship go their different ways.

What I am trying to say is that entrepreneurs work in a fluctuating environment which is in constant motion and full of changes.

And the fear of change so deeply rooted in human nature is inversely proportionate to the fact that changes are an unalterable factor in all our professional lives.

Basically, we need to come to terms with it and consciously accept that one thing is certain - at work or at play, things are likely to change over the next few weeks and the shift could be minimal or huge. Simply being conscious of this will allow us to see the future through different eyes and this new approach may help us to be more positive about life.

And it may be true that sometimes the glass if half empty..but that is probably because I already drank the other half!
