CFCC’s Academic and Career Readiness Department can help you meet your goals! Classes are offered at all CFCC campuses and at off-campus locations throughout New Hanover and Pender counties, as well as online.

All High School Equivalency, Adult High School, and English as a Second Language classes are free!

ADULT HIGH SCHOOL (AHS)

This is a traditional evening and online high school program that meets at the downtown Wilmington Campus. Students complete the 22 credits required for a North Carolina high school diploma. Credit may be awarded for courses completed at the student’s original high school. Registration and orientation sessions are held regularly at the Wilmington campus. Returning students, call for registration information. Classes operate year-round.

Required credits: 4 English, 4 Math, 4 Social Studies, 3 Science, 6 electives, 1 Health and PE

GED® TEST PREP CLASSES

We offer a variety of traditional and online courses to help prepare students to take the official GED® Test.

These classes are offered morning and evening at all CFCC campuses and also at off-campus locations. Test prep is taught in the four subject areas: math, reasoning through language arts, social studies, and science. Eligible students attending classes receive the GED® Ready test for free (a $24 value). Scholarships are also available for eligible students for the official GED® Test ($20-$80 depending on the award). Registration and orientation sessions are held twice a month at the Wilmington campus.

Earn your AHS diploma or GED® while completing college or continuing education classes for free! Eligible students can complete college or continuing education credits in the following courses while enrolled in the AHS or GED® Test prep classes.

• Air Conditioning, Heating, and Refrigeration (HVAC)

• Nurse Aide

• Truck Driver Training

• Welding

• Nail Technician

• Apartment Maintenance Technician

• Diesel Mechanics

To enroll in Adult High School, GED® Test Preparation Classes: For those age 18 or older:

1. Bring a valid identification card (driver’s license or state ID card).

2. Obtain your official high school transcript in a sealed envelope (for Adult High School).

3. Attend registration and orientation. For those ages 16 or 17:

1. Complete steps above.

2. Bring your parent or legal guardian to registration.

3. Obtain and complete a notarized parental consent form available at CFCC’s Wilmington Campus or online at cfcc.edu/acr/ahs.

4. Bring a completed official school withdrawal form (signed by the superintendent or designee) available at CFCC’s Wilmington Campus or online at cfcc.edu/acr/ahs.

ENGLISH AS A SECOND LANGUAGE (ESL)

Improving your English language skills can help you get a better job, participate more in your community, finish high school, and earn a college degree. ESL classes are offered at the Wilmington campus and online. Please call to find out about other class locations in New Hanover and Pender Counties.

Students receive instruction in reading, writing, math, technology, and civics. Classes are offered mornings, afternoons, and evenings. Registration/orientation is by appointment at CFCC’s Wilmington campus.

To enroll:

1. Bring a photo ID card
