FERPA

(Family Educational Rights & Privacy Act)

When a student turns 18 years old, or enters a postsecondary institution at any age, the rights under FERPAtransfer from the parents to the student. One of the student’s rights under FERPAat the postsecondary institution is the right to provide written consent before the college discloses personally identifiable information from the student’s education records to anyone other than the student. Under this right, the College requires the student’s written consent before disclosing information such as, but not limited to, class schedules, grades, and attendance information.

PROTECTED RECORD

If the student wants the college to be able to speak with someone else such as a parent, the student must complete the Disclosure Request Form in Softdocs (Online Forms) and allow at least 48 hours for the form to be added to the record. This form will only be accepted directly from the student.

Directory Information

● Name

● City/county of residence

● Major field of study

● Full time/Part-time enrollment

● The most recent college attended

● Dates of enrollment

● Degrees and awards received

● The College assigned email address

This information is not considered harmful and the College may disclose this directory information to the general public without a student’s consent. A student does have the option to opt out of release of directory information by completing the Disclosure Request Form in Softdocs (Online Forms).

ATTENDANCE IS CRITICAL

for your success and also to remain enrolled in the course!

CFCC’s attendance policy states that a student must have attendance by the 10% date of a course.

● Must be physically present in class and/or have done the EV (enrollment verification) online assignment (if applicable to the course) by this specific 10% date.

● This 10% date may vary depending on each course, and could even be on the first day of a course!

● Failure to attend and/or do the EV by this date will result in being administratively dropped from the course.

How to be sure that you meet this critical attendance requirement…

Attend your class on the first day it meets in the classroom and/or complete the EV assignment online on the first date of class.

Course Schedule Adjustments

Adding and/or Dropping Classes

○ Adding Classes

■ Many classes allow you to add a few days into the term. Remember that classes are in progress, so you may need to catch up on material if adding after the first day of class.

○ Dropping Classes

■ Dropping a class in the drop period (on/after the start date and up to the 10% point of the class) will allow a 75% refund.

■ If you are dropping a class AND adding a class, do it in the same transaction to avoid a drop fee.

■ Questions: Reach out to your advisor!
