BREAKING BARRIERS
Sara Stimpson’s Sky-High Aspirations
Sara Stimpson, a recent graduate of Cape Fear Community College’s Electrical Lineworker program, stands out not just for her achievements, but for breaking barriers as the only female in her class. With a background as an aviation electrician in the Navy, Sara’s hands-on experience and passion for helping others have driven her toward a career in electrical linework.
Originally from Wilmington, Sara returned to CFCC after her military service to pursue this new career path. Her motivation stems from her love for hands-on work, a trait she honed during her time in aviation maintenance. Now, she’s eager to step into the field and hopes to land a job with Duke Energy, either on the utility or union side.
Navigating a traditionally male-dominated field isn’t new for Sara. Her military background has prepared her well for the challenges she might face. She believes that both men and women bring unique strengths to the job, and she finds fulfillment in overcoming stereotypical barriers.
To other women considering a career in electrical linework, Sara offers this advice: "Great things can happen when men and women work together for a common goal." As she embarks on her new journey, Sara is optimistic, viewing her graduation as a small step in what she hopes will be a fulfilling and impactful career.
