This course focuses on assisting individuals in determining their goals and interests for successful employment through conflict resolution, problem-solving, and teamwork skills. Additionally, it teaches students how to effectively utilize LinkedIn for job searching, including profile creation, résumé writing, and online job searches, with a professional headshot included for profile photos.

HUMAN SERVICES EXPLORATION WILMINGTON CAMPUS

This course covers skills and strategies designed to provide employability skills, training and career exploration for the role of Income Maintenance Caseworker within the Division of Social Service agencies.

INCOME MAINTENANCE CASEWORKER - NC FAST

This course is designed to cover a variety of skills associated with the Income Maintenance Caseworker role to determine service eligibility. Specific focus will include proficiency in the utilization of the NCFAST application. Other topics will include skills in communication, interviewing, time management, data gathering/compiling, and data analysis.

INTRODUCTION TO MEDICAL RECEPTIONIST

This course prepares individuals for entry-level medical receptionist roles with professionalism and confidence. Students will gain proficiency in medical terminology, insurance procedures, office protocols, and effective communication skills. They will also receive training in job interview strategies and résumé writing techniques to boost their employability and career prospects.

MICROSOFT EXCEL - EMPLOYMENT SUCCESS WILMINGTON CAMPUS

This course is designed to teach students Microsoft Excel basics for job search record keeping and budgeting paychecks. Students will also gain proficiency in crafting résumés and updating online job search profiles to showcase their newly acquired Microsoft Excel skills and knowledge. Additionally, they will engage in job search exercises to further enhance their employment prospects.

MICROSOFT WORD FOR THE WORKPLACE WILMINGTON CAMPUS

This course is designed to teach students Microsoft Word skills and techniques that are used in the workplace, as well as learn how to create a résumé and online profile updates that reflect their new Microsoft Word skills and knowledge. Students will work on creating cover letters in Microsoft Word that reflect their newly obtained Microsoft skills and complete job search exercises.

Students learn the evolution of military and civil aviation, from early flight to modern technologies and space exploration. Topics include historical milestones, aircraft engineering, aeronautical theory, basic aerodynamics, and career exploration.

This course prepares students for the FAA Instrument Airplane Written Test, covering IFR rules, airspace, flight environment, aeromedical factors, emergency operations, radio navigation, charts, flight planning, meteorology, and aircraft performance.

An Aviation Maintenance Technician (AMT), or aircraft mechanic, ensures aircraft safety and efficiency through inspection, maintenance, and repairs. The average salary is $75,400 annually, with 16% job growth projected in North Carolina over the next decade.

This 96-hour course covers weather, navigation, preflight planning, regulations, radio communications, and aviation history. Students are prepared to pass the government-required written exam using the latest FAA material.

This 4-hour session is for students with or pursuing their US Coast Guard Captain’s or Mate’s license for vessels of 200 gross tons or less. It replaces the need for an Assistance Towing examination at any US Coast Guard Regional Examination Center.

Cape Fear Community College offers a graphic design certificate program consisting of 7 courses and 312 hours of instruction. The coursework will focus on graphic design principles, Adobe Design software, and web applications for graphic designers. Students will learn about current design and technology. Using state of the art software and resources, the instructors will train students in all areas of design as well as logo creation, color theory, and newly emerging areas in the field.

Access to a computer with Adobe Creative Cloud (CC) subscription for assignments to be completed outside of the classroom is required. All courses are held at our Wilmington Campus and/or online with live virtual instruction.

FOUNDATIONS OF GRAPHIC DESIGN HYFLEX: ONLINE OR WILMINGTON CAMPUS

This program comprises four core classes and a certification exam review, aiming to prepare students for the CPC (Certified Professional Coder) in-patient coding exam by AAPC (American Association of Professional Coders). Medical coders utilize CPT, ICD-10-CM, and HCPCS Level II systems to assign standard codes to clinical statements. Conversely, medical billers handle claims sent to insurers for service reimbursements. Both roles may be fulfilled by the same person or by collaborating to ensure accurate payments. Ideal for individuals with healthcare experience in billing, finance, insurance coding, reimbursement, or abstracting, this program opens avenues for roles such as Medical Coding Specialist, Medical Records Technician, and Health Information Clerk.

INTRODUCTION TO MEDICAL CODING ICD-10 WILMINGTON CAMPUS

ICD 10 classes are offered from late May to December each year and are in sequential order as needed to sit for the AAPCCPC exam in December of the same year. Students should take Medical Terminology & Anatomy/Physiology for Healthcare and Healthcare Access Principles prior to Intro to ICD 10.

The focus of this course is on Current Procedural Terminology (CPT), the Healthcare Common Procedure Coding System (HCPCS) and the International Statistical Classification of Diseases (ICD 10). Students should complete Medical Terminology & Anatomy/Physiology for Healthcare and Insurance Billing Fundamentals before taking this course.

ADVANCED MEDICAL CODING WILMINGTON CAMPUS

Students learn to identify provided services and determine the correct codes. Emphasis is placed on reimbursement guidelines for physician practices. Students should complete Introduction to Medical Coding ICD-10 before taking this course. Completion of this course qualifies students to take the $255 CHAA exam. CERTIFIED RISK ADJUSTMENT CODER WILMINGTON CAMPUS

This course focuses on the financial aspects of medical coding. You’ll gain skills in accurately assigning medical codes, understanding coding guidelines, compliance, reimbursement, and risk adjustment. You’ll also learn to audit risk adjustment models, address documentation deficiencies, and acquire knowledge of anatomy, pathophysiology, and medical terminology for precise coding. Students must be certified in 1CD 10 or have at least three years in coding.

The Musculoskeletal Sonography course offers comprehensive training for entry-level MSK sonography. It’s tailored for registered sonographers and healthcare professionals using ultrasound. The curriculum covers scan protocols, anatomy, normal and pathological sonographic appearances, pediatric applications, interventions, and rheumatology. This hybrid course spans 16 weeks, with online modules and two face-to-face labs over weekends. By course end, students will proficiently acquire and interpret basic MSK images, identify anatomical structures, recognize pathologies, and assist in interventions. This hyflex course allows students to manage learning around personal and professional commitments, with the option to work asynchronously if unable to attend the 6-9 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday sessions. It prepares students for the Wastewater Treatment Operator I & II exam, covering terminology, math, regulations, and exam strategies. Suitable for both first-time test takers and those seeking a refresher, the course also offers CEUs for those who need them.

Our program covers essential welding skills for construction, manufacturing, and structural steelwork. With four courses, including safety, blueprint reading, and techniques like STICK, MIG, TIG, and PIPE, students are prepared for diverse welding roles without prerequisites.

HOBBYIST WELDING BURGAW CENTER

Interested in learning welding for DIY projects or artistic endeavors? Join our 24-hour Hobby Workshop! Learn safety basics, machine operation, and specific welding processes. Participants must be over 18 and bring/wear: welding helmet, gloves, safety glasses, long sleeves, and closed-toe shoes.

WELDING - MIG BURGAW CENTER

This course teaches students to cut and join mild steel parts using Oxy-fuel cutting, MIG, and flux-core arc welding processes. It covers various positions (flat, horizontal, vertical, and overhead) and includes methods, joint preparation, machine setup/ maintenance, and electrode selection.

WELDING PIPEFITTER BURGAW CENTER

This course teaches Oxy-fuel cutting (OAC), Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW), and Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW). Students learn steel cutting with OAC and welding in different positions on steel pipes using GTAW and SMAW. Prerequisite: MIG/STICK/TIG completion or at least MIG/STICK.

TRUCK DRIVER TRAINING NORTH CAMPUS

This course trains students in inspecting and driving tractor-trailers, emphasizing defensive driving, federal motor carrier safety regulations, trip planning, cargo handling, vehicle systems, hours of service, and accident prevention. It covers motor vehicle laws, map reading, vehicle maintenance, safety procedures, daily logs, freight handling, security, and fire protection. The training includes highway driving, range exercises, and classroom lectures. Certain convictions within the last 5 years may prohibit entry, and students must be 18 years old. Requirements include a Class A commercial learner’s permit with tanker endorsement, DOT physical, DOT drug screen, and driving record. Program options include 8-week day classes and 10-week evening classes.

CDL PERMIT PREP ONLINE

This course covers essential knowledge areas required by Federal Law for obtaining a Commercial Learner’s Permit (CLP), including General Knowledge, Air Brakes, and Combination Vehicle operation. Upon completion, students are well-prepared to pass the CLP exams. Obtaining the CLP requires taking the CDL Permit Test at the DMV separately.

HAZMAT ENDORSEMENT PREP ONLINE

This 12 section, self-paced course runs concurrently with our Truck Driver Training Program. Successful completion with a score of 80% or higher earns you a spot on the Training Provider Registry, demonstrating your readiness to take the Hazmat Endorsement Exam at the Department of Motor Vehicles. To take this course, you must be 21 years of age and provide your CDL or CLP and DOT Medical Certificate prior to the start of class.

EMS training prepares students for patient care in prehospital settings, focusing on cognitive, psychomotor, and affective skills. Successful completion leads to NC OEMS credentialing via state examination. Additional offerings like EMT and paramedic refreshers, are available year-round, with daytime and evening EMT Initial Courses and options for agency requests.

EMERGENCY MEDICAL TECHNICIAN (EMT) INITIAL CLASS NORTH CAMPUS

This course trains individuals as entry-level Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs), covering patient assessment, basic life support techniques like airway management and CPR, hemorrhage control, oxygen administration, shock management, bandaging, splinting, trauma and medical patient care, child birthing, and patient transfer. Aligned with NC Office of Emergency Medical Services guidelines, it prepares students for North Carolina and National Registry credentialing exams upon successful completion. All students will require a CASAS English Placement Test, scoring at least 249 (11th grade reading level) OR must provide a college transcript showing successful completion of ENG 111 within the last five years.

ADVANCED EMERGENCY MEDICAL TECHNICIAN (AEMT) NORTH CAMPUS

The course is designed to build upon the EMT knowledge and provide health professionals with advanced knowledge and skills to better their critical thinking. Upon successful completion, students are eligible to sit for the North Carolina and National Registry credentialing exams.

This advanced course trains AEMT-certified individuals in various medical procedures and emergency care. Entry requirements for Firefighter Academy: All Firefighter Academy students under EWD must achieve a minimum CASAS English Placement Test score of 249 (11th grade reading level) or submit an official college transcript showing ENG 111 completion within the last 5 years. NIMS ICS (National Incident Management System) Incident Command System FEMA Federal Emergency Management Agency

The National Incident Management System (NIMS), developed by FEMA, fosters effective collaboration among government, private sector, and non-governmental organizations, including first responders. It enhances coordination across incident types and sizes, promoting interoperability among all responders. NIMS offers various courses such as Introduction to NIMS, Introduction to Incident Command System, ICS for Single Resources and Initial Action Incidents, Intermediate ICS, Advanced ICS, Overview for Executives and Senior Officials, and specialized classes.

BASIC LAW ENFORCEMENT TRAINING (BLET) NORTH CAMPUS

BLET provides essential skills for entry-level law enforcement roles in government or private sectors. The program covers statemandated topics such as criminal investigation and patrol techniques. Graduates qualify for job opportunities with state, county, and municipal governments upon completion. Prerequisites include approval from the BLET Director, reading proficiency, and submission of relevant documents like a medical examination form and criminal history check report. Applicants must be at least 20 years old, hold a valid North Carolina driver’s license, and be US citizens.

This course is for detention officer candidates or current employees at local confinement facilities as mandated by the Sheriffs’ Education and Training Standards Commission or the Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission. It covers standard procedures and officer responsibilities using various teaching methods. Full attendance is mandatory, and students must achieve a minimum score of 70% on assessments and the final exam. Uniforms are required, and some evening sessions may be necessary.

This course is mandatory for telecommunicators employed by or sponsored by an emergency service center, excluding grandfathered individuals. It aims to introduce standard operating procedures and enhance the role of emergency service telecommunicators through various teaching methods. Full attendance, satisfactory completion of practical exercises, and achieving a minimum 70% score on the final exam are required. Additionally, students must submit medical forms unless exempted by the NC Sheriffs’ Education and Training Standards Commission.
