Game. On. 2017. The official matchday program of the PlayStation 4 National Premier Leagues Capital Football Season 2017

Cover Photo: Lawrence Atkin Welcome back to Round 15 of the PlayStation 4 National Premier Leagues Capital Football and Round 17 of the PlayStation 4 National Premier League Women’s Capital Football. Last weekend saw action aplenty as Monaro picked up their first PS4 NPL points this season, Tuggeranong picked up a shock win over Canberra FC and Tigers threw the top four race wide open with a huge victory over Gungahlin United. In the PS4 NPL Women’s, Belconnen United continued their remarkable season with another win, while Woden-Weston picked up a last gasp three points at Gungahlin to further their finals chances. In Cup football, Canberra Olympic’s FFA Cup Run came to an early end with a 1-0 loss to Sorrento FC on Wednesday night in Perth. Stay tuned to our social media for coverage this weekend, including Gungahlin United v FFA COE LIVE on Sunday.

Panthers get off the mark in Googong Monaro Panthers 2 (Ed McCarthy 21’, Luke Kanjor 66’) drew. Riverina Rhinos 2 (Darren Bailey 25’, Danyon Arnold 56’) By Matt Nicoletti The Monaro Panthers picked up their first point of the season on Saturday as they came from a goal down to secure a 2-2 draw with the Riverina Rhinos in Googong. The hosts began the game brightly as they looked for an opener, controlling the majority of the ball while pressing high up the pitch whenever the ball was turned over. The approach paid off for them after 21 minutes, as Ed McCarthy gave his side their first lead of the league season, jumping highest to meet a cross and rifle a header into the back of the net. However they seemed to drop off after scoring, and the Rhinos restored parity only four minutes later with a delightful goal from Darren Bailey. Bailey broke down the left behind the defence and latched onto a through ball, and as Nathan Alferink rushed out of goal he lobbed a delightful chip over the keeper and into the side netting. The Rhinos looked hungrier after going level and started to find more of the ball as the half wore on, but were unable to create a go-ahead chance as they headed into the break locked at a goal apiece. As the sides came out of the break it was the Panthers that looked the stronger of the two sides again, but they weren’t able to use their possession efficiently and instead the Rhinos took the lead 11 minutes into the second half. Ally McLeod’s header rattled the crossbar from a corner but Danyon Arnold was on hand to knock home the rebound as the ball came to ground and give his side the lead. Arnold was everywhere throughout the match in a fantastic performance, but he could do nothing as the Panthers were awarded a penalty in the 66th minute. Luke Kanjor stepped up for Monaro and coolly dispatched the spot kick just inside the post to level proceedings at 2-2 and give his side a fighting chance at their first win. However, it was not to be, despite a number of chances for Monaro, and the match fizzled out as a draw.

Raap leaves it late to seal deal for Wanderers Gungahlin United 0 def. by Woden-Weston 1 (Lotta Raap 90+’) An injury time goal from Lotta Raap gave Woden-Weston a 1-0 win over Gungahlin United on Sunday and put them five points clear of Tuggeranong in the fourth finals spot/ Raap’s winner came at the end of an evenly matched encounter where both sides squandered chances throughout. It was a cagey opening at Gungahlin Enclosed with both teams showing signs of tiredness after their cup matches on Thursday Night, and both sides struggled to open up the match. Natalie De Marco found herself with space at the back post after 13 minutes but could not connect with the lofted free kick send her way, before Rachel Crittenden missed a golden chance for the visitors two minutes later as she dragged her shot just wide of Eleni Haridemos’ goal. Fatigue was an issue for the hosts after their extra-time efforts against Belconnen on Thursday night, and Diego Iglesias’ side looked to hang onto the ball as much as possible to avoid a running match with the Wanderers. Ella Brown was brought on early in the match and had an almost instant impact as she forced a botched clearance and nearly fired it home, but Haridemos was equal to the task as she stuck out a leg. With the match goalless at the break the opportunity was there for both sides to come out firing, and the hosts came close just two minutes in as Maddy Perceval connected sweetly with a volley from a corner but fizzed it narrowly wide. Gungahlin began to impose themselves and Sophie Bui thought she had given her side the lead in the 67th minute, but her finish across Nat Lacey hit the upright and bounced back directly along the goal line into the grateful arms of Lacey. And that miss would haunt United in the first minute of stoppage time as Raap was sent racing through on goal and kept her cool to tuck home past the rushing Haridemos and under pressure from a defender. The win leaves Woden-Weston five points clear of Gungahlin ahead of a meeting with them this weekend, while Gungahlin’s clash with the Canberra United Academy is to be rescheduled, giving them a valuable week off.
