Game. On. 2017. The official matchday program of the PlayStation 4 National Premier Leagues Capital Football Season 2017

Welcome back to Round 9 of the PlayStation 4 National Premier Leagues Capital Football and Round 10 of the PlayStation 4 National Premier League Women’s Capital Football. Last weekend saw a change at the top of the Men’s ladder, as Canberra FC’s draw with the Centre of Excellence and Canberra Olympic’s win at Tuggeranong saw Olympic jump the former leaders into first by two points. FC have the chance to jump them again this week, with Olympic having the week off thanks to a scheduling conflict. Both Riverina v Olympic, and Tuggeranong v Monaro will be rescheduled, due to FFA Cup participation this weekend. Four Women’s fixtures highlight Saturday afternoon as Round 10 gets underway, and Belconnen United will have the chance to extend their lead at the top as CUA & Gungahlin battle it out. Stay tuned to our social media for updates across the weekend!

Second half blitz gives Gunners all three points at Kaleen

Gungahlin United 3 (Naumoski 52’, Green 61’, Blazevic 83’) def. Riverina Rhinos 0 Gungahlin United leapt into the Top Four on Saturday as a convincing second-half performance saw them record a 3-0 win over the Riverina Rhinos at Kaleen.

Gungahlin came into the match looking to bounce back from last week’s loss to Canberra Olympic, while the Rhinos were aiming to pick up some momentum ahead of a busy period of FFA Cup and league action. Both sides struggled to break open the game for the first half hour, as possession changed hands often but with few chances created in a cagey affair. Gungahlin created the first big chance of the match after 32 minutes, as a cross found Misko Naumoski alone in the area but he could only push his shot wide of the righthand upright as the goal beckoned. Just four minutes later Naumoski had another great chance as United were awarded a penalty, but again he pushed his shot wide as Mitchell Woods guessed the correct way in goals. Rhinos had arguably their best chance of the game on the stroke of half-time as Sean Bremner whipped a cross into the box, but Roy Catanzariti’s effort was well saved down low by Jason Denham as the match remained goalless at the half. The action began again almost immediately as the second half opened, as the hosts were awarded another penalty just seven minutes in. This time Naumoski tucked home the spot-kick into the bottom corner to give his side a 1-0 lead. Rhinos struck the post shortly afterwards with a great chance but the rebound fell only to safety and United maintained their advantage. Gungahlin made the most of the let-off in the 61st minute, as a looping corner found Jack Green unmarked at the back post and his header cannoned in off the underside of the crossbar. With the hosts now holding a 2-0 lead and the majority of the play, Rhinos began to tire, and it showed with seven minutes to go as Frano Blazevic found himself in the right place to tuck home a rebound and seal the game after Woods saved an earlier shot.

Classy Canberra put paid to Panthers Canberra FC 4 (Gill 5’, Wright 21’, Boxsell 45’, Jones 60’) def. Monaro Panthers 0

Canberra FC edged their way back into third place on Sunday, as a commanding first-half performance paved the way for a 4-0 home win over Monaro Panthers. It was the home start who started on the front foot, applying early pressure and working the ball dangerously around the box. Canberra FC were to profit from this pressure after just 5 minutes, Grace Gill found the ball as Liana Hill spilled a corner, and the midfielder made no mistake to put her side ahead. Gill was unlucky not to score a second five minutes later, firing in a shot from the right side of the box but only managing to hit the post as the hosts continued to pile on the pressure. The home side went two goals ahead in the 21st minute, as Bridget Wright and Krista Hagan linked up with a silky one-two putting Wright through on goal to coolly slot home past Hall. After a slow start, Monaro began to put some pressure back onto the home side, and a fast counter attacking play put Olivia Farrell through on goal and the striker was brought down to hand the Panthers a penalty. Lara Burdett stepped up to take the penalty, and in a controversial move the midfielder tapped the ball on to Zoe Szeremet who charged into the box to put the ball in the net, but the linesman ruled to pass to have travelled backwards and disallowed the goal. The visitors continued to apply pressure, utilising the pace of Alicia Meuronen and Szeremet down the lines, and the Panthers were unlucky once again after a powerful long shot from Meuronen ws denied only by the bar. Canberra FC held off the pressure, and the home side grabbed a third goal on the cusp of half time as Hall failed to get behind a low shot from Erin Boxsell who gave her side a sizeable advantage going into the second half. Monaro came out looking to get back into the game in the second half, and Meuronen managed to test Georgia Stewart with a curling effort in the 49th minute, but the Canberra FC goalkeeper stayed strong. Canberra FC put the game beyond all doubt in the 60th minute, when Chantel Jones caught Hall off her line with a looping effort from just inside half way and Mark Risteski’s side saw the game out comfortably to go on to take all three points. Elite Female Referees selec Leading elite Australian Female Referees Kate Jacewicz and Sarah Ho have been recruited by Capital Football as referee coaches and mentors for the 2017 NSR Kanga Cup. The tournament, held between July 2nd – July 7th this year, will have a referee group over 200-strong officiating more than 1100 matches throughout the week. The Kanga Cup is the largest junior football tournament in the Southern Hemisphere, and is held in Canberra annually. “This is an exciting enhancement to our referee support team which provides coaching and mentoring to our referees throughout the week long Tournament,” Capital Football CEO Phil Brown said. “In particular, this will ensure our strong contingent of female referees from Game Leaders through to our emerging and potentially elite young referees benefit from their involvement.” Kate and Sarah will be part of the Referee Academy based at the AIS during Kanga Cup which includes young local, interstate and overseas referees. They will both be involved in Academy technical sessions as well as providing coaching support to both local and Academy referees on a daily basis at the many hosting venues of the 2017 NSR Kanga Cup across Canberra. “This is an important investment to ensure our young referees at all levels receive the right support and coaching during the

cted for Kanga Cup team Tournament,” Brown said. Kate Jacewicz has been named the Westfield W-League Referee of the Year seven times and is Australia’s most experienced female referee. She started refereeing when she was 13 years old, was appointed as a FIFA referee in 2011 and recently was in charge of the final of the 2016 FIFA U17s Women’s World Cup held in Jordan. She has also refereed eight out of the nine Westfield W-league Grand Finals including the recent 2016/17 event. Sarah Ho is leading the way for female officials in Australia. She was appointed as an assistant referee for the 2015, 2011 and 2007 FIFA Women’s World Cup as well as the 2008 & 2012 Olympic Games. Sarah was the first female referee to be selected for the Huyundai A-League Assistant Referee’s panel and the AFC Men’s panel. Sarah began her refereeing in the Nepean area before moving to the National Youth Championships level and gaining her FIFA badge in 2004. “Both referees bring significant knowledge and experience to our coaching efforts at Kanga Cup and we are very happy they have made this commitment and investment to help in the development of our junior referees,” Brown said.
