Where neighbors create legacies
LET’S TALK For nearly a decade, I have served as the caretaker of The Community Foundation of Muncie and Delaware County. As I look back on this time, I would like to share some highlights from my experience.
$6.9 MILLION GIFT CELEBRATES A LEGACY OF GRANTMAKING The MutualBank Charitable Foundation establishes The Mutual Legacy Fund
I have been fortunate to work with great team members over the years. I have great confidence in the current staff and their ability to bridge my departure to bring the next leader up to speed. As a team, we have shared the story of the Foundation, allowing more people to work toward a better quality of life for Muncie and Delaware County. Since 2014, the community and world have experienced changes. The Foundation remained a strong support system through market rises and falls and the pandemic. Honoring the Foundation’s rich history and traditions while remaining relevant to the needs of today has allowed us to spot the trends and opportunities in the philanthropic industry and make those our work. I led the organization as we grew the endowment to keep pace with the economy through prudent investment and fund raising. This year, we received the single largest gift in the history of the Foundation. We recognized and operationalized good grantmaking practices to enhance our ability to serve nonprofit organizations and the community. I have worked closely with passionate community volunteers and board members, who guided me as I stepped into the leadership role at the Foundation. The next leader will be fortunate to have these same supports as they continue to move the Foundation forward. It has not only been an honor and privilege to serve the community through my work at The Community Foundation; it has been a dream job. Thank you, Delaware County, for giving me a chance to tend the eternal flame.

The Pat Botts Memorial Build was one of many projects funded by the MutualBank Charitable Foundation. The Mutual Legacy Fund will continue the legacy of community support.
T
he MutualBank Charitable Foundation has made an impact in this community and beyond. Organized in 1998, the MutualBank Charitable Foundation was substantially funded with nearly $4.5 million through Mutual’s initial public offering. Since 1999, the foundation has granted almost $7 million to nonprofit organizations aligned with the bank’s footprint across Indiana. Nearly 80 percent of those dollars have impacted Delaware County. “Continuing the legacy of giving by the MutualBank Foundation is important, and we believe The Community Foundation is the partner to ensure that can happen in perpetuity,” said R. Donn Roberts, Chairman of the MutualBank Charitable Foundation. continued on page 2
