T Rochester Announces Plan for Community Input in Nationwide Search for Chief of Police

M

ayor Malik D. Evans has ensured that the City of Rochester’s process for finding its new Chief of Police will include community input as well as a nationwide search. About a week after he was sworn in, the City contracted with Public Sector Search & Consulting, a national search firm focused solely on the recruitment of senior police executives. Led by CEO Gary Peterson, former chief of police in Martinez, Calif., the firm has managed many successful searches for Police Chiefs, including in Dallas, Texas; Boulder, Colo.; Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., and Nashville, Tenn. “We are seeking the best leader for our police force, so we have partnered with a proven and experienced national firm to help us find our new Chief,” said Mayor Evans. Peterson will lead a comprehensive search in the coming months, which will include individual and group information gathering, extensive community input, outreach to qualified prospects, screening and presentation of candidates. Interviews with key City personnel have already begun, including with the Mayor and other City officials. These meetings are designed to give the search firm an understanding of the Department’s organizational needs, structure, culture, and priorities. The community is also being solicited. Rochester residents and other interested stakeholders can provide their perspectives by completing an online survey at https://www. cityofrochester.gov/rpdsearch/, through Monday, January 31. The city has also invited residents to participate in community focus groups, in which they have been able to engage directly with the search firm to share their thoughts on the attributes they are seeking in a Police Chief. After the input process, Public Sector Search & Consulting will develop recruitment materials, begin its outreach to qualified candidates, conduct comprehensive screenings, present finalists for consideration, and lead multiple rounds of interviews.

“We believe that open and transparent searches set the stage for building community trust with new appointees,” said Gary Peterson, CEO, Public Sector Search & Consulting. “It is crucial to take the entire city through the process so the new Chief is received as a strong and legitimate partner by the community.”

The entire process is slated to take up to 120 days to complete.

he Bills played one heck of a game in Kansas City Sunday. And the general consensus among most fans, is that they played like the champions they are despite the heartbreaking 36-42 overtime loss to the Chiefs. -RecapThis game turned out to be everything we all expected it to be with a 14 – 14 games at the half. The Bills and Chiefs turned it up in fourth quarter with both teams combining

MORE BILLS COVERAGE FROM "RISE UP RIGHT" PAGE 12 for 25 points being scored in last two minutes of the game. I have never witnessed an offensive explosion like this ever in an NFL game. I think Josh Allen rose to being one of the top quarterbacks in the game that day. The defensive unit should be embarrassed by not being able to hold Patrick Mahomes and KC Chiefs for 13 seconds. It was almost like DC Frazier was afraid of his unit giving up another big play in those final critical seconds. They prevented a big play but allowed Mahomes to complete a 25-yard pass to put them within field goal range. The Bills defensive backs were at least ten yards off line of scrimmage Chief’s kicker Harrison Butker, who is better at making

long kicks rather than short ones. The Bills should have squibbed the kickoff forcing Chiefs to field the ball and run some time off the clock. Bills Head Coach Sean McDermott :“We’re all hurt, sick to our stomachs.” Josh Allen : “I’m taking it all in and holding on to that feeling and making sure we don’t feel like this again.” Allen is a real leader and player who leaves it all on the field each week. The fact that he had 9 touchdowns and no interceptions in the last two playoff games speaks volumes for his ability. Allen has matured into a top NFL QB especially when on the biggest stage he shows up and produces excellent performances. Allen cares tremendously about winning and making himself a better player. He has worked very hard on being a great QB and all the hard work is paying off with his

play on the field. The Bills front office

must now make some very hard decisions about what players will leave and which players will return next season. They

most likely will lose a Coordinator during off season, so plenty of change is coming to the Buffalo Bills. My next article will include who I think should return for next season along with possible free agents that could help this team. The Kansas City Chiefs will make NFL history by being first team to host four consecutive AFC Championship games. Patrick Mahomes is a true champion, who also rises to the occasion on the game’s biggest stages and wins. I like KC over the Cincinnati Bengals

. This game will be another high scoring contest. I also like the LA Rams and see them finally beating their arch nemesis the San Francisco 49ers in a hotly contested game. The Rams can’t seem to beat 49ers but things should change on Sunday. If the Rams win it could be the second team in a row to play The Super Bowl in their home stadium. I see Kansas City Chiefs v. LA Rams in Superbowl LVI. Enjoy the games.

When Purchasing KN95 and N95 Masks Know the Warning Signs of Fakes

COMMUNITY

Between the two masks the most distinct physical difference is that the KN95 has ear loops and the N95 has elastic bands that go around the head.

The Holistic Benefits of HUSTLE FOR HEALTH Join Phyllis Carver, Senior Instructor for Hustle for Health, a free weekly wellness programs for the 55-plus community at the Gloria Parks Community Center, 3242 Main Street at Heath. •Mondays 12-1p.m. •Wednesdays11a.m.12p.m. This week, Hustle For Health adds a make up class at the center Friday, Jan. 28 at 12 noon. Mindfulness: Meditations, affirmations and breathing exercises keep us centered •4.Social Wellness: Dancing together helps foster relationships and curb loneliness

Unfortunately there has been a spike in counterfeit versions of these masks hitting the market and it's tough for consumers to tell the difference. Whether you're evaluating suspect N95 or KN95 masks, here are some red flags you can look out for to be sure you are getting not only what you pay for but what you expect to be protected by. It's counterfeit if; 1.It doesn’t look like a face mask and doesn’t cover your nose and mouth properly 2. The packaging is not tamper evident or sealed well. 3. There's no company or location info on the packaging nor is there a legitimate website or physical address for the manufacturer. 4. There's no markings or branding directly on the mask 5. There's no expiration date. The particle-repelling electrostatic charge on respirator masks eventually degrades over time, there should always be an expiration date . 6. Incorrect spelling of the brand name, and or terminology is used incorrectly. Any packaging that states a mask is “FDA approved” is a red flag. An N95 is approved by NIOSH, not the FDA (though a surgical N95 must also be authorized or cleared by the FDA). However, neither NIOSH nor the FDA provide so-called certificates of approval. 7. The company overkills the use of words on the packaging like genuine, legitimate, authentic. 8. You notice quality control issues like a crooked nose-bridge wire, elastic that lose their stretch or detach easily. 9. There's no approval number. This alphanumeric designation starts with the letters "TC-84A followed by four additional digits and can be found on the mask or bands . If there is one check for it on the NIOSH certified equipment list. 10. The mask has ear loops. Legitimate N95 never have ear loops however KN95 masks do 11. There are claims on advertising or the packaging that the mask can be worn by children . On the N95 there is no option for children to wear on the KN95 there is. 12. There’s no GB marking. The KN95 standard requires that masks made after July 1, 2021, be stamped with GB2626-2019, which provides reassurance that the manufacturer constructed the mask according to current Chinese respirator standards. *Mask red flag facts sourced from various reports.

If you don’t control your own actions someone else surely will. When we are thoughtful about the choices we make our actions reflect the products of our own mind. If we are not mindful, we end up going through life on other peoples agendas. We end up doing things and have no idea why. Recognize that at every moment either you are able to choose your actions or someone elses influence will dictate your way. Be the master of your reality. Peace, Dr. Maat E

"We Are Better Together!" Alex Wright is Catalyst for Ground Breaking Fundraising Campaign January 31 - February 5 to Support Black Led Organizations

A

lex Wright, founder of the African Heritage Food Co-op,

is the catalyst for the development of a grounding breaking effort with the Bills and Sabres Foundations which highlights five Black led organizations that are changing health care and food systems on the eastside of Buffalo. The initiative, called “Better Together,” is a fund raising campaign which will take place during Black History Month (January 31 - February 5) to develop awareness and promote health and wellness in Buffalo communities hit hardest by the COVID virus. It’s patterned after the Buffalo Bills and Buffalo Sabres Foundations successful “Give 716”; a community wide day of online giving designed to familiarize fans with nonprofit organizations across Western New York and give them the opportunity to support them and increase their funding. The idea for “Better Together” - designed to foster collective work and responsibility during these trying times - came out of a conversation with Alex, Michelle Roberts, Executive Director, Buffalo Bills Foundation and Rich Jureller, VP of Community Relations President of the Buffalo Sabres Foundation regarding a renovation of his second co-op. During that meeting Wright expressed a desire to replicate the success of the Give 716 campaign but instead of a massive outreach across the region he thought why not plan a fund raising campaign during Black History Month targeting a limited number of non-profit Black led organizations? These particular organizations, he pointed out, are working around a shared issue that could become a catalyst for revitalization and self sufficiency in a community which has long suffered inequities in the food and health care systems .

initiative. Everyone involved in “Better Together” is indeed a humble hero! The five following organizations - brought together under the umbrella of “Better Together” -all share the mission to reduce food insecurity and chronic disease for those living in areas with high rates of COVID . The African Heritage Food Co-op. Founded by Alex Wright in 2016, the Heritage. Food Co-op was created to combat hunger in WNY using the motto, “ Anything less than ownership is unacceptable.” Wright also founded Blegacy farms with the purchase of a 22 acre farm in Franklinville, NY where disenfranchised Black community members with little access to healthy foods can farm, sell crops to the co-op and feed themselves and their families. He is opening his second co-op location in the Fruitbelt community and is currently raising funds to complete a major renovation of a historic building that was donated to him. Buffalo Go Green. Allison Dehonney founded Buffalo Go Green in 2014 to provide services and training to underserved populations throughout WNY. Concerned about the lack of quality nutritious food in the inner city, Allison created “Urban Fruits and Veggies” a Black- owned urban farm located in Buffalo, NY. Using the African proverb “It takes a village to raise a child,” Allison is working on “Bailey Green” that will feature hydroponic green houses, a fruit tree orchard, a café, and green market with upper level apartments to address food insecurity. Allison is actively engaged in raising monies for these projects. Bailey Green is scheduled to break ground soon. Buffalo Freedom Gardens, founded by Gail V. Wells in 2020 is using the proverb, “Give a person a fish and you feed them

To help drive home the important work of the organizations participating in the “Better Together” campaign, is the 2022 theme for Black History Month, which is “Black Health and Wellness!” A perfect fit for a noble cause! Here’s how it works. The Bills and Sabres organization has created a marketing campaign that highlights each participating organization . Using the link: Bettertogetherbuffalo.org anyone can donate to one or all of the participating groups from January 31st – February 5th. As a special thank you, each donor will receive a free pin created by celebrated artist Edreys Wajed depicting what he coins, the “Humble Hero” - which is the logo for the Better Together

There is a waiting list of over 300 families who want a garden. Since it’s inception Freedom Gardens has given out 88 gardens plus provided gardening, cooking and nutritional education. Every gardener receives a cedar bed based on their needs (there are elevated beds for seniors and those with disabilities), along with gardening tools, PPE equipment, organic plant and seeds and high quality soil. Freedom Gardens is focusing on expanding their services and currently looking for offices in the African American Heritage Corridor. Buffalo Center for Health and Equity is led by Rita Hubbard. The Center is working on the elimination of race, economic and geographic based health inequities in WNY by changing the social and economic conditions that causes illness and shortens lives among the sickest in the region. Concentrating on the zip codes with the highest rates of chronic disease, the Buffalo Center for Health Equity collaborates with the other participating organizations. REACH is the acronym for Racial and Ethnic Approaches to Community Health and is led by Ruthie Lloyd. REACH is centering their work on the Ferry Street Health and Wellness initiative. The Burchfield Penney Art Center at SUNY Buffalo is on the hunt for enthusiastic, committed volunteers to participate in its upcoming Docent Training Class. Docents at the Burchfield Penney are museum volunteers trained as teaching guides. They bridge the viewer and the artwork, igniting conversation and curiosity. The tour program uses an inquiry-based education model. Tours of all kinds are conducted at the museum, including those for school groups, adults, seniors, and social organizations. More than 15,000 people join us annually for docent-led tours. The Burchfield is seeking community members who collectively reflect a wide range of perspectives and experiences. "Well-trained docent volunteers are one former docent Howwao Wajed of our most valuable assets," said Burchfield Penney interim director Scott Propeack. "Working closely with them, we're gaining insights on how to advance our program to better prioritize equity and diversity to reflect the region we serve with training initiatives and ideas to help broaden our recruitment reach. "No formal training or experience is required to apply. Accepted applicants will be fully trained before conducting tours. “Our staff will share stories and details about the exhibited artwork to help the docent team enrich the tours that they develop and provide practice in touring strategies. Candidates should simply be enthusiastic, dedicated life-long learners who want to tell meaningful, engaging stories,” explains Education and Tours Manager, Mary Kozub. The Center celebrates artwork connected to the culturally diverse communities of Buffalo and Western New York. To forge closer ties with the city we serve, we are seeking members of the community who together reflect this wide range of perspectives and experiences. To help us expand accessibility, we particularly encourage bilingual candidates to apply. Docents-in-training must attend 15 two-and-a-halfhour sessions on Wednesdays. Upon completion, they are required to commit to the program for a full year, providing at least two tours monthly.. Prospective docents can apply by filling out an application and questionnaire. Applicants will then be asked to meet with staff and fellow docents to review the application.

Niagara Falls Underground Railroad Heritage Center Sets Black History Month Events!

A

s part of the commitment to preserving and promoting the legacy of and bringing visibility to Black stories in Niagara Falls, there are several events and programs slated in February to celebrate Black History Month.

This year’s theme is “Illuminating Voices: Connecting the Past to the Present.” In February, the Niagara Falls Underground Railroad Heritage Center will honor Black History Month by celebrating the rich history of people of African descent in Western New York by connecting historical events to modern social issues. The Heritage Center offers this kind of programming year round, so to enhance it during Black History Month, there is a wide variety of virtual, in-person and hybrid programs planned to reach audiences across Western New York and beyond. Most of the events take place in the Atrium of the Heritage Center in Niagara Falls or are available virtually. Events are as follows: ●“Frederick Douglass WNY: By Any Means Necessary,” 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 2, in the Atrium, 825 Depot Ave. West. The kickoff to Black History Month welcomes the Heritage Center’s own Dr. James Ponzo in “Frederick Douglas WNY: By Any Means Necessary,” a presentation on the life of Frederick Douglass, including the impact that he had on Rochester and all of Western New York. This is a hybrid event and pricing is $8 for singles, $12 for couples, and $25 for families. ●African Drumming & Dancing Community Fitness Class with Packard Court Community Center, 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 3, in the Atrium at 825 Depot Ave. West, Niagara Falls. This community celebration embraces the resilience and power that Black History Month embodies. Join us in a collaborative event with the Packard Court Community Center in an African Dance Class Jamboree featuring drums, music, laughs, and educational conversation. These two sessions are part of the free 10-Week African Drumming and Dance Community fitness classes at the Packard Court Community Center to promote health and wellness, sponsored by the Niagara Falls Housing Authority and Create a Healthier Niagara Falls Collaborative. This is a free, hybrid event. ●“Illuminating Voices of our Future,” StoryTime Animation with the Atlantis School for Gifted Youngsters Part 1, 10 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb 5, in the Heritage Center’s Meeting Room, 825 Depot Avenue West. This in-person collaborative event allows eight youngsters ages 9 to 12 to be the storytellers of their own tales over the four Saturdays. These eight students will create, produce, and record voice overs for a StoryTime animation episode that features their own character. Saladin Allah, Visitor Experience Specialist, Community Liaison, and the Founder of the Atlantis School for Gifted Youngsters, will create animations of each child to bring their character to life! The cost is $40 and that covers all four weeks. The Heritage Center is hoping to fund scholarships for each child. Register here. ●“Illuminating Voices of our Future,” Storytime Animation with the Atlantis School for Gifted Youngsters, Part 2, 10 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb 12, in the Heritage Center’s Meeting Room; 825 Depot Avenue West, Niagara Falls. ●“Black Visions” & “Alma Thomas & Me.” This collaboration with the Explore & More Children’s Museum will be held from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb 12, in two locations: the Atrium at 825 Depot Avenue West, Niagara Falls; and at Explore & More Children’s Museum, 130 Main St., Buffalo. This informative and empowering event will allow kids ages 8 to 12 to learn about important Black figures from the past and present who are role models for children and young adults in an effort to inspire them to be everything they wish to be and more. Participants at Explore & More will be led by Heritage Center staff. They will be given a short informative lesson about important and influential Black figures past and present. They will then be guided through the creation of vision boards in an effort to empower today’s youth. Participants at the Heritage Center will be led by Explore & More staff. They will receive a short informative lesson on art, Black artists, and will be guided in a watercolor painting activity inspired by Alma Thomas. This is a free, in-person event, and capacity is 20 youth at the Heritage Center, but there are no capacity restrictions at Explore & More. Register here.

National/International Coming Soon: The Elimination of Race-Based Affirmative Action on College Campuses?

The Supreme Court has announced it will reconsider racebased affirmative action in college admissions, a move that could eliminate campus practices that have widely benefitted Black and Hispanic students. Justices will hear challenges to policies at Harvard and the University of North Carolina beginning next October, with a decision likely by June 2023.

The Profound Significance of Cariol’s Law in the Floyd Killing Case

Last April, Derek Chauvin was found guilty in the May 25, 2020, killing of George Floyd. The federal trial for the other three former officers charged with Floyd’s killing - J. Alexander Kueng, Thomas Lane and Tou Thao, is set to begin next week in downtown St. Paul, Minn. They are accused of willfully failing to intervene against Mr. Chauvin and help Mr. Floyd. The state trial for the former officers is set for March of 2022. According to the January 24 New York Times: “The case is about a far more common aspect of police culture than Chauvin’s brutality: officers who do not intervene in the conduct of fellow officers. Federal law requires police officers to intervene in the actions of other officers to stop constitutional violations, and courts have affirmed that obligation for decades. At the same time, police departments (are supposed to)train officers to move against other officers to stop misconduct.” Who knew? Enter the landmark “Cariol’s Law” that reiterates a Buffalo Police Officer’s responsibility to intervene in a situation where they believe another officer is acting inappropriately or jeopardizing another person’s safety or well-being." The law, said Cariol Holloman-Horne after the Chauvin

A Community Sankofa Project Guided by a Prophetic Report From the Front Line

-Part 2 ConclusionIn 2022 we are asking our communities all over America to read this book in your family, in your cultural and after school programs, in your fraternal organizations and all places where we can engage intergenerational social and civic engagement. The common problems that exist in Urban America are systemic and their origins are historically intertwined with the racial injustices that were present at the foundation of this country. Our struggle, like a relay race, can only be won if we carry the runner and the baton across the finish line. The runner represents Black people and baton represents our intergenerational lessons and methods of engagement. Without the lessons from our elders and the activism of the youth, we simply can’t win. If we let other people define our past, present, and future, we are still enslaved and we violate the Kwanzaa code. We also can’t honestly celebrate Juneteenth if we don’t continue the race to be self-determined with access to full liberties in this country. If you don’t believe this pit is real , remember Black America is celebrating Juneteenth as a federal holiday and the January 6 Klan is still fighting the Civil War . The challenges against voting rights for Black America are greater now than when Dr. King was alive. We are on par with the voter suppression seen during Reconstruction. The poverty and blight of inner cities are the grandchildren of Red-Lining and decades of employment discrimination. This reality that we find ourselves needs clear and honest communication. We need to come to the table with the mind that there is a problem and that we need our best selves to show up and protect our future. Where Do We Go From Here: Chaos or Community ? The mission right now is to participate in our own Salvation. Let us focus on creating the world we know we deserve and especially the world that will nurture our children to prosper and rise to their full potential. Dr. King has left us enough information to prioritize or efforts and build local and national agendas that Build Black. For those who want to share or host events on this book read please contact us rasjomoakono@gmail.com and tune In to WUFO every Sunday from 7 – 10 pm 96.5 FM, 1080 AM and globally www.power965radio.com verdict “needs to be nationwide.” The brutal public murder of George Floyd made that crystal clear. She said at the time that the other officers in Minnesota didn’t try to stop Chauvin over the course of nine minutes because they were afraid to cross the thin blue line. It was 2006 when Cariol Holloman-Horne- a local heroine - tried to stop her partner from using excessive force on a suspect. She ended up losing her job as a Buffalo Police officer, but after years of a long legal battle, is now eligible to receive her full pension. One legal expert said that If the three officers are convicted, “It would be an important step in dismantling the blue wall of silence when cops close ranks and refuse to intervene when they see another officer doing wrong.”

The Warren Report by Dr. John E. Warren

The President and Voter Suppression ith the failure to overturn the Filibuster Rule in the W United States Senate, it would appear that the John Lewis Voting Act and the Voting Rights Act are dead because

of two “Dixiecrat Senators” and a Republican blockade in the Senate that has long forgotten the Oath of Office that each of them took when taking their positions of office. However, there is hope that the President will start using the power of his office on behalf of the people who put him in the presidency. Without the Black Vote, there would be no Joe Biden presidency. This fact has to become more important than preserving the traditions of the U.S. Senate. The President must now formulate a complete plan of Executive Orders that will prepare to send federal monitors to each state that has enacted Voter Suppression laws such as the reduction of polling sites, the purging of election rolls so as to reduce the number of persons who can vote, and inserting a federal presence at every point of the electoral process permitted by Federal law. The President must show, through action and not just speeches as if on the campaign trail, that he is serious about using all the powers of his office to protect the electoral process. This also means that the United States Department of Justice must move forcefully and quickly in responding to the call for investigations which will follow a more aggressive course of action by the President. Senator Schumer must decide whether he is in control of the U.S. Senate or Mitch McConnell, who appears to still be in charge in spite of the would-be Democratic majority in the Senate. The two Senate Democrats-in-name-only who are now openly voting with the Republicans against their own party’s President, should just change their party registration and complete the transition to the other side. It's time for a visible plan, Mr. President. The American people are waiting.

Buffalo Bills News

First and 10 at the Chiefs 19....there's 23 seconds left to go..... the Chiefs trying to hold a four-point lead. Buffalo is looking for the AFC Championship game to go through Highmark Stadium. The snap.... Josh Allen back to pass.... he sets....fires....touchdown Gabriel Davis. 13 seconds left.... Bills Mafia!!!!!! Can you dig it? And in 13 seconds it was all a dream. The next set of events would shock even Chiefs fans as The Bills would give up 45 yards in 10 seconds on two plays and gift wrap the opportunity for the Chiefs to tie the ballgame at 36 a piece. With three seconds to go Harrison Butker would silence the Bills with a 49-yard field goal that would send this instant classic of a game into overtime. The referees introduced overtime "Buffalo, you are the visiting team what's the call heads or tails" Josh Allen would call tails and the rest would have the Bills Mafia faithful heart broken and asking questions on what the future holds for this team as Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs would escape with a 42-36 overtime victory in Arrowhead Stadium. A 7 yard touchdown pass to Travis Kelce would seal the deal for the Chiefs. This game truly was an instant classic that just went the wrong way for the Buffalo Faithful. A lot of questions loom large as some sports fanatics are still in shock. Should the overtime rules be changed? Why didn't the Bills swift kick the ball with 13 seconds left instead of kicking the ball out of the end zone which essentially gave the Chiefs an extra play to try and capitalize from? Why were the Bills playing prevent defense when they had the #1 total defense in the league? If there is one thing that Buffalo has to get better at going forward its definitely developing good decision making skills in critical situations. The Buffalo Bills organization needs to take a deep look into their future endeavors as it is expected that the Bills will most likely lose their offense and defensive coordinators to head coaching positions that are open for the taking. Last Sunday night, we experienced the gift that keeps on giving. For more Bills News, support Rise Up Right and the Rise Up Family podcasts on all major social media platforms.

Some of the questions that linger will be..... Will this be Tom Brady's last game? Will this be Aaron Rodgers last game as a Green Bay Packer? Will the Tennessee Titans have to make a move at the quarterback position?

The Sabres will look to continue building on their winning ways as they will pay a visit to the Ottawa Senators and then roam through their four game road trip with games against Arizona, Colorado and the Vegas Golden Knights. Pistol Permit Holders of Recertification Process Deadline Erie County, NY- Erie County Kearns wants to remind New York State Pistol Permit Holders that they need to complete their recertification process with the New York State Police (NYSP) in order to be in compliance with the NYSAFE Act. Under New York State law, if an individual’s permit was issued prior to January 15, 2013, the deadline to submit your recertification to the State was January 31, 2018 and every five years thereafter. However, if your license was issued on or after January 15, 2013, the deadline recertify with the State is five years after the date the license was issued and every five years thereafter. To clarify, the next five-year due date is here for some, but not all pistol permit holders. For example, a pistol permit holder who recertified on January 15, 2017 would be due to recertify with the State by January 15, 2022. A pistol permit holder who recertified on March 8, 2017 would be due to recertify with the State by March 8, 2022. A pistol permit holder who recertified on January 15, 2018 would be due to recertify with the State by January 15, 2023. Applications can be submitted to the State online or mailed-in. To submit your recertification online or to see when your current recertification expires please visit the New York State Police website at firearms. troopers.ny.gov/pprecert/welcome.faces. Forms are also available online at safeact.ny.gov/pistol-permitrecertification or at State Police stations throughout the state mailed to the return address listed on the form.
