Policies during Protests and Mass Gatherings

On Tuesday Mayor Malik D. Any use of pepper balls must be authorized by a high ranking official and they may not be used to clear an area during a peaceful event. · Use of K-9 officers are prohibited at protests and mass gatherings. · The City’s Corporation Counsel will be included in all planning discussions for protests and mass gatherings and will be present with RPD command staff during an event. · Language added to the Police Department’s eviction protocol clarifies the right to protest and to take video at the scene. Buffalo-Lead-Free Initiative Launched To Provide Free Lead Testing For Every Child In The City Of Buffalo The BUFFALO-LEAD-FREE-INITIATIVE is being launched to provide free lead testing for every child in the City of Buffalo. Lead is a poison and is hazardous even in very, very small amounts. There is no treatment to permanently reverse the adverse effects of lead exposure. Exposure to lead, particularly in children under the age of 6, can cause learning disabilities, behavioral problems, seizures, comas and even death. In the City of Buffalo, children living within zip codes 14201, 14207, 14208, 14210, 14211, 14212, 14213, and 14215 are especially vulnerable to poisonous lead because of the age of the housing stock and lead contamination in pipes used for drinking water. Early testing in children is the best treatment in the battle against exposure to lead. Nurses Francesca Gidney, LPN and Makeda Holt Devonshire, RN, BSN, MPH, owners of Buffalo Clinical Lab Testing Corp. will oversee the BUFFALO-LEAD-FREE-INITIATIVE, in conjunction with the Black Lives Matter Foundation, Inc. and the BLM Legal Defense and Education Fund, Inc.

Parents should contact the Buffalo Clinical Lab Testing Corp. at 1-833-662-4522 to schedule an appointment to get their child tested.

Mary Burnett Talbert

Buffalo’s Historic Connection to the Emmett Till Anti-Lynching Bill

By Dr. Lillian W. Williams In 1922 Mary Burnett Talbert, Buffalo and internationally renowned human rights advocate, directed the NAACP’s national Anti-Lynching campaign to win support for Missouri Congressman Leonidas Dyer’s anti-lynching bill. However, Congress failed to ratify this bill, just as it had all previous and subsequent attempts to enact anti-lynching legislation. One hundred years later after Talbert’s crusade, Congress finally enacted HR55, the Emmett Till Anti-lynching Bill. On Tuesday, March 29, 2022 President Joseph R. Biden signed into law HR 55, making lynching a federal hate crime. Historian Lillian S. Williams’ research on Talbert – an early 20th century civil rights reformer, suffragist and human rights advocate – has spanned four decades and two continents. Dr. Williams is also writing a biography of Mary Burnett Talbert. Dr. Williams, author of "Strangers in the Land of Paradise: The Creation of an African American Community, Buffalo, New York, 1900-1940,” is an associate professor in the department of transnational studies in the University at Buffalo College of Arts and Sciences. She is an expert on U.S. social and urban history.

ROSWELL REPORT:

April is Minority Cancer Awareness Month Part 2 Conclusion

B

obbie Brown worked as a nurse’s aide at Buffalo General for a number of years and now serves as a volunteer for Roswell Park and is part of Nikia Clark's outreach team, setting up meetings, providing trainings and teachings and talking with people in her community about their cancer risks. To get more awareness out there to explain to people that it’s OK to go to the doctor,” Bobbie says. “We need more awareness of going to the doctor, why it’s important to keep your appointments, making those appointments for colonoscopies because of the higher rates among people of color. If you see anything different, if you’re feeling anything different, then you need to tell your doctor. People are scared sometimes. Some don’t want to go see their doctor because they know they haven’t been in a while, and if there’s something going wrong, they don’t want to hear it. But we have to keep pushing.” Bobbie says she is known in her community as someone who is very vocal about the importance of taking care of your health, a message she takes to her neighbors, community centers and to anyone who will listen. It works: She recalls one woman who “kept showing up” to various health discussions but admitted she had gone several years without a checkup at a gynecologist’s office. When the woman finally went to the doctor, she was diagnosed with stage 3 uterine cancer. “She finally got the treatment she needed. She knew somebody who lives where I live, and when she saw me, she came over and hugged me.” Roswell Park also has adopted and expanded a patient navigator program in which people work with patients and prospective patients to make sure all appointments are attended and followups are completed. “We can do all the outreach, getting the awareness out there, but we need our navigators and volunteers. Patient navigators are from traditionally underserved communities, historically minority communities, and they’re bilingual – that’s extremely important,” Nikia says. Navigators look like people in the community they’re serving, an acknowledgment of the fact that people will relate and respond more to people who look like them and share, or appear to share, a common

background and way of viewing the world. Navigators help to make sure people get the screenings and care they need and provide a compassionate but steady reminder that cancer screenings and doctor appointments are critically important to protecting a person’s health, Nikia says. “We have volunteers who are Spanish speakers, women, men, and people of color,” Bobbie adds. “We are all human. We need people from all colors and backgrounds. There’s a saying I have: ‘You must do what you’re preaching.’ People are scared. They’ve never had a colonoscopy. I tell them, ‘I’ve had this done. It’s simple.’ We are at high risk. I’m on their level.” As a reminder, here is the general advice for when people should start to have regular cancer screenings if they are of average risk. People at higher risk of developing certain cancers, including breast and colorectal cancer, may need to begin these screenings earlier: •Breast: Mammography for women age 40 to 70 (frequency depends on risk factors) •Cervical: Pelvic exam, Pap test and routine HPV testing for women age 21 to 65 •Colorectal: Colonoscopy for men and women age 50 and older •Lung: Low-dose CT scan for men and women age 50 and older with more than 20 pack-years of smoking history and have smoked in last 15 years •Prostate: Digital rectal exam, counseling about PSA early detection and PSA testing (if desired) for men age 50 and older •Skin: Full-body skin check for patients with any suspicious

lesion

M&T Bank Backs ‘Entrepreneurship for All’ Buffalo to Drive Inclusive Entrepreneurship M&T Bank recently announced a $300,000 commitment to support the Buffalo operations of Entrepreneurship for All (EforAll), a national nonprofit that opened its Buffalo office last year in partnership with the Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus (BNMC) to help more people from historically underserved communities access the training and support they need to start and grow businesses. In addition to the $300,000 grant funding commitment, which will be provided over a sustained three-year period, M&T employees will serve as mentors to help participating entrepreneurs develop their business acumen, identify solutions to common startup challenges and connect to an expanded network of support services that can sustain their companies. “Many people in our community find themselves at a disadvantage because they don’t have that experience in their social circle – and disproportionately these would-be entrepreneurs are from diverse racial, ethnic or cultural backgrounds,” said M&T Western New York Regional President Eric Feldstein. “We’re committed to making a difference in people’s lives and helping entrepreneurs pursue dreams of starting businesses that uplift our community. Our collaboration with EforAll will help ensure every Western New Yorker knows entrepreneurship is attainable and there’s support available to help them throughout their journey.” The EforAll Business Accelerator is a free, year-long program that starts with 12 weeks of intensive startup business training and mentorship and then evolves into a robust support system and extended professional network. Locally, the program has provided support for entrepreneurs who have started businesses and nonprofits in a variety of industries. Among the people it has supported: •Danielle Sharp Owner and CEO of My Legacy Embroidery & Crafts •Samantha Long, web designer , founder owner and CEO of Mazus Media LLC • DeVaughn Jones, President, Co-founder and creator of the stress management company Warr Room Decompress Inc. Of the business owners currently in the EforAll Buffalo accelerator program, 74 percent are women, 58 percent are Black, Indigenous or people of color, and 46 percent are immigrants. \EforAll also organizes pitch contests to create opportunities for participating businesses to gain additional exposure and potentially win grant funding to accelerate their growth. Our focus on inclusive entrepreneurship refers to our ongoing and collaborative work to ensure everyone, no matter who they are or where they’re from, can access the resources and support they need to start and grow their own business,” said EforAll Executive Director Juweria Dahir.

From Inmate To Chaplain

The Elevation of Bishop Frederick A. Gelsey

O

By Marshaun L. Quinniey

n April 3rd Bishop Frederick A Gelsey announced to his congregation that he’d been upgraded from a volunteer at the Erie County Correctional Facility to the role of Reserve Chaplain by the Department of Erie County Sheriff. Typically, this accomplishment is great by itself. However considering the depth from which Bishop Gelsey ascended, this achievement moves people to say it is an amazing act of God’s power. “It’s good that his dedication and commitment to help his community is being rewarded,” said community activist Betty Jean Grant. A member of his congregation, Amerika Gray agreed. “It is amazing, such a blessing, that a person who was in prison, is now working in the prison to share the power that changed him.” Bishop Gelsey says it is a testament to the power of God changing lives and that God will use it as an example to inspire inmates in the prison to decrease recidivism. Many are familiar with Bishop Gelsey’s dedicated volunteer ministry in WNY prisons every week. He invests his time to inspire constructive change in inmates and support individuals journeying through the obstacles they face to turn from a criminal life and walk a path that is healthier for everyone including themselves. He is working to combat recidivism and decreasing the need for prisons by using the role of God in his life to give the inmates hope. However, the part of this equation that causes many to cheer and praise is Bishop Gelsey's change from being a criminal with felonies to a Bishop who serves his community as a chaplain to help others. When news of his new role was posted on

facebook he received more than 100 positive responses of support, in a manner people cheer for an underdog who wins a championship. At one point in his life, the man everyone sees with an honest smile who works to help his family, church, and community, was amassing a record of crimes. He now uses his days to lead people away from a sinful lifestyle. “I was not the man that I am today,” he shares. “ I was in a life of crime, and spent 17 years in and out of prisons. Now I work in the prison to change lives.” Bishop Gelsey reached this point in his life, by deciding to venture to Buffalo (the place he now calls home) instead of returning to the temptations of Harlem. “In 1986 I came home with $40 in my pocket, the clothes on my back and Jesus Christ.” He has dedicated himself to changing his life through educational advancement, serving his community by way of his nonprofit and leading his ministry at One In Christ Temple. And most importantly, God also blessed him with a help mate and supportive wife, Lydia Gelsey, PhD. The journey was not easy but he eventually became the owner of five clothing stores, which he managed until the tragic loss of his son. Four of these stores were in Buffalo and one was in Charlotte, NC. One of the local establishments made him the first African American to have a store in the Galleria Mall. With this investment he created opportunities for others to have jobs and inspired other Black people to build. In addition, he began his ministry and his church, known as One In Christ Temple at 940 Broadway St. where he currently serves as the senior pastor. These days Bishop Gelsey continues his visits to prisons

Bishop Gelsey, Reserve Chaplain to encourage inmates. He uses his drive to to bring God the Glory by helping other inmates constructively change their lives. He wants them to know the same way his life was changed from an inmate to chaplain, God can change theirs as well. “The same power of God that helps me can also work in the inmates to change their lives.” Currently, he uses this energy to aid a program titled, No Return Attitude (NRA). He feels it is his duty to help inmates in the manner he was helped, while leading his church with his wife, First Lady Lydia Gelsey. He does all these things and more because he appreciates the upgrades that God made in his life to elevate him from an inmate to a chaplain!

Vocero Omar Taps 90s Era Bringing a Dose of both Nostalgia and Ingenuity to His Music

D

allas Johnson had already been performing in Buffalo for 2 years before making the decision to move here in 2018. Constantly traveling to the Queen City from Dunkirk was the norm for the 20 something rapper, before he was ready to take the next step in his career. “I got on the radio and got interviewed by WBLK back in 2018, Johnson mentioned. “That was the turning point that felt like Buffalo was the place to be because that’s where music is happening.” Since making Buffalo his home, Johnson - popularly known as Vocero Omar - has garnered significant attention for his unique look and Hip-Hop sound. Deeply inspired by the 90s, Omar takes many elements from that era and applies them to his sound, style, and image bringing a dose of both nostalgia and ingenuity Vocero Omar photo /Double " E" Photography to his music. Dropping a string of impressive songs in 2021 has made Omar an artist to watch. One of his earliest breakout singles last year, “Customer Service” caught major attention. Over a smooth integration of boom-bap sounds and blazing horns, Omar raps about the value of working hard and endurance with a nostalgic 90s flow. Shortly after, the rhymer released another single titled “Garvey.” A reggae-centered track that expresses the artist’s eagerness to go to “the motherland.” And just a week later Omar dropped an R&B-trap single titled “Latina Gina” about his love life, with many other singles to follow. “I really try to uplift myself and analyze myself,” Omar explained about his musical process. Despite his strong consistency and incredibly versatile sound, the fresh-faced rhymer stands out most because of his content. Many of the lyrics to Omar’s songs carry an introspection and awareness that helps his listeners identify with him. Whether he’s rapping about his experiences as a Black man, reminiscing on his past, or his growth as both a young husband and father, Omar displays a maturity that balances well with his playful personality. His songs, often assisted by animated videos of himself wearing his brightly-colored jumpsuits and hats add humor, wit, and more 90s nostalgia to his look and sound. You can watch his fun, short music clips on his IG page @voceroomar on all streaming platforms.

Empathy for Ukrainians While Rejecting Their Racist Past, Current and Future Behavior

A

ll members of the human family must be outraged at the horrendous brutality of Russians as they wage war against the Ukrainians. No human being should be subjected to the rampant murders, assaults, and rapes that are a part of the tactical behavior of Russian soldiers as they lay siege to the people of Ukraine. No member of the human family should allow themselves to sink to the level of beast when engaged with other human beings whether we agree with them or not. Obviously, Russians and Ukrainians do not agree on the issue of land, sovereignty and personhood. Instead of being able to resolve that disagreement without violence, Russians have resorted to warfare, notwithstanding Putin’s word play in describing what his soldiers are doing as they began laying siege to the land and people that identified as Ukrainian. Ukrainians are defending what they believe is their land, sovereignty and personhood. I have often said in my writings that oppressors will feed on themselves when there is no “Other” to demonize, exploit and oppress. Racism and most of the isms that have troubled humanity for thousands of years devolve to those practices when feeling the unreal sense of unjust power which I believe is the power taken/stolen from people who have been conditioned to marginalization, poverty and the illusion of powerlessness. There are clear precedents to look at in history to see how people and groups have manipulated circumstances and crawled and clawed their way into power positions, like Putin and then wreaked havoc on those who did not have the mindset, inclination or social construct that would allow them to stave off the attacks of a people who would do literally anything to be able to demonize, exploit and oppress them. Like Africans who thrived in civilizations that sought only the advancement of the human family and did not invest the genius of their generations in constructing war machines but rather concentrated on building centers of study and learning the human sciences that would advance our collective ability to grow spiritually/psychologically/even materially and not developing means of destruction. The historical precedent here is how the Portuguese, British and French mostly, initiated the assault of the Berlin conference siege on African people and the continent of Africa. The tactics of demonizing, dehumanizing and then abject brutalization to beat down the spirit of resistance is much the same of what we see Russians doing to Ukrainians right now. The same rampant murders, brutal rapes and particularly inhumane assaults are much like the siege that Europeans waged against Africans to take our land, deny and destroy any idea of our sovereignty and devalue our personhood, is what Russians now do to people with the same basic ethnicity as themselves because there is no large group of us to do it to. But, still as Ukrainians find some illusion of self, while undergoing the horrors of Russian assaults, that allows them to feed into the lie of white racism by projecting onto Africans/ Black people in their midst the horrible castigation of racism. As we witnessed Ukrainians pulling guns on Black people and calling them “Niggers,” while forcing them off the trains going to other countries that would provide refuge to people coming from Ukraine. Now, as they make their plea for asylum in Our Country, the America that Black people have help to build and now struggle to save from its own inherent conflicts, we do feel empathy and compassion for the Ukrainians but we do not need coming to America to venting the racism that they have heard from other whites aimed at Black people to cauterize their own pain.

Stories ... Stories ... and More STORIES! On April 16, at the Frank E. Merriweather Branch Library, the "Tradition Keepers: Black Storytellers of WNY" hosted its 13th Annual "Tell Me a Story" storytelling conference. Attendance was light but the energy was high as the group honored its mission to "promote, preserve, and perpetuate storytelling in the African tradition." With traditional stories, personal stories, and "tall tales,'' the group highlighted storytelling's ability to teach, entertain, and inspire. We also had fun creating new stories, stretching imagination, encouraging collaboration, and developing a desire to build a story from characters and settings that never existed before. The event was a success and we are looking forward to our 14th annual storytelling conference which we hope will take place next year In April, encouraging more storytellers and story-listeners to participate. We Must Decolonize Urban Planning and Mobility Systems! POETRY By Colored Girls Bike Too, Founder Jalonda Hill "STAY WOKE"

M

obility and urban design are essential to our freedom. They impact our ability to access the essential resources that we need. While mobility and urban design can be liberating, for people of color, mobility and our urban spaces have been a source of anxiety, police and traffic violence, and extraction. Many of the experiences that Black folks endure while traveling are a result of racist urban planning and transportation policies like redlining and urban renewal. These policies shaped our physical environments and also impacted how and where we traveled and moved. For example, Robert Moses, a White urban and transportation planner, was notorious for perpetuating infrastructure racism, by restricting the movement of people of color through the built environment like the removal of Humboldt Parkway for Route 33. The legacy of Moses’ devaluation of communities of color and Black mobility live on, and can be seen in the fabric of our sidewalks, streets, parks, the makeup of the urban and transportation planning profession, and the modern-day policies and processes that perpetuate a legacy of racism and colonization. We must acknowledge these racist histories and decolonize the process of urban design and transportation in WNY. Colored Girls Bike Too is launching a new campaign called “Decolonize Mobility and Urban Spaces”. We are holding a direct action at a community engagement event called “Buffalo’s Sustainable Mobility Future” on May 2, 2022. Predominantly white-led organizations will be requesting community feedback on a predetermined $10 million proposal to bring clean transportation solutions to Buffalo’s East side. While we support the need for clean transportation solutions on the East side, we are opposed to “solutions” that do not prioritize the most urgent needs of the community. The $10 million proposal is rooted in inequitable community engagement and funding procurement practices that are in con-

flict with the most urgent needs of East side residents, and seeks to use $3 million for greenways that do not fix fundamental problems. The proposal ●calls for solutions that fail to offer opportunities for community/POC owned and controlled modes, like e-bikes or electric cars; ●fails to provide capacity-building resources for POC-led mobilifocused organizations and businesses that work to create culture change around clean transportation options; and ●fails to present a sustainable model to generate wealth in communities of color. The proposal's priorities are in direct contradiction to the most important issues that need to be addressed on the East side of Buffalo, according to a recent study by Dr. Henry-Louis Taylor, The Harder We Run -The State of Black Buffalo in 1990 and the Present. Those priorities include development and design of neighborhood streets, sidewalk and street repair, and investment in green infrastructure on neighborhood streets. Join us in solidarity as we disrupt systems that perpetuate harmful and eurocentric urban development and transportation projects in communities of color in the name of profit and power. Colored Girls Bike Too, Inc., is a Black-woman led 501(c)(3) public charity that promotes free, fearless and fair mobility options. Parent Outreach Initiative: Rochester Mobilizes for Public Education By Jalil Muntaqim Recent articles attacking public education is consistent with the rise of right-wing conservatism and their efforts to deny Critical Race Theory, a critical look at curriculums that for centuries has been Eurocentric in design and obfuscated (rendered obscne) the culture and contribution of non-white nationalities and ethnic groups . Here in Rochester, the progressive and activist community has long fought for substantial institutional change in both curriculum and pragmatic academic practices. This include demanding the Full Implementation of the Culturally-Responsive Sustaining Education Framework, the Code of Conduct, the RASE Report, Solutions Not Suspensions, Stop Closing Schools (increasing class sizes) to name a few, that seems to fall on the deaf ears of RCSD administrators. During last year's budget public hearings, young people were consistent in their demand for better quality nutritional meals at their schools. Given the depth and breadth of poverty and hunger in Rochester, the Teens' demand should have been a major focus of all progressives and activists wanting institutional reform for RCSD. There has been a half-dozen reports and recommendations on the ailment and malfeasances plaguing RCSD with negligible responses or efforts to improve conditions following reported recommendations. So, what's next? What do the progressive and school reform activist community need to do to ensure our collective voices are heard? Here I am making a bold and audacious ask of all of you, those of you who've written letters, made phone calls, sent out emails, had One on One's with RCSD representatives, posted Op-Eds, and lined-up to speak at RCSD public hearings, I am petitioning all of you to join in a series of demonstrations, putting boots on the ground - as Dr. King instructed he wanted to be re-

membered as a "Drum Major for Justice" - to become a Drum Major for the Mobilization for Public Education. This is a Call to Action that we all should be remembered for: Please join us for the next two Mobilization for Public Education demonstrations on: May 5th, 5:00PM at RCSD Central Office (131 W. Broad Street) before the 5:30PM BOE Deliberation Session on the Budget Meeting: May 9th, 5:00PM at RCSD Central Office (131 W. Broad Street) before the 5:30PM BOE Summary of Final Board Concerns Meeting. These Mobilization for Public Education demonstrations are expected to make visible the plight of RCSD in a public arena in opposition to their continued failure to be transparent and accountable. The Mobilization for Public Education will highlight the above goals and objectives, demanding the Board of Education, especially Leslie Meyers-Small and Shelly Jawlow adhere to the demands of the parents, students, faith-based institutions and community organizations. These will be the first in a series of steps to turn Mobilization into a Movement for institutional change and

manifesting a new paradigm for education in Rochester, the City of Frederick Douglass. Jalil Muntaqim is Special Projects Coordinator, Citizen Action of New York, Rochester Chapter

Betty Jean Grant Goes Back to Court On Tuesday, May 3. Meanwhile Back At The Ranch...

Polling Place Worker Arraigned On Felony Charge Under Election Law For Stamping Ballots Erie County District Attorney John J. Flynn recently announced that 58-year-old Luz Pena of Buffalo was arraigned before Buffalo City Court Judge Andrew C. LoTempio on one count of Unlawful Use of Pasters Upon Ballot (unclassified felony under New York Election Law) and one count of Unspecified Violation of Election Law (unclassified misdemeanor under New York Election Law). It is alleged that between 6:00 a.m. and 3:15 p.m. on November 2, 2021, the defendant used a stamp to place the name of Byron W. Brown as a write-in mayoral candidate on numerous ballots in violation of New York Election Law. The alleged crime occurred while the defendant was working at a polling place inside of the Belle Center on Maryland Street in the City of Buffalo. Pena is scheduled to return on Monday, May 16 at 9:30 a.m. for a felony hearing. She was released on her own recognizance as the charges are non-qualifying offenses for a bail. If convicted of all charges, Pena faces a maximum sentence of four years in prison. -Interesting DevelopmentUp until this latest development, no charges have been filed against any other individuals related to last November’s mayoral election. This is an interesting in light of the fact that community activist Betty Jean Grant, has been fighting a bogus election law violations case against her for months. What took the DA so long to charge this woman? Why now? And what impact - good or badwill this have on Mrs. Grant's case? After the last hearing, she and her attorney were hopeful that her fight for vindication would soon be over and the outcome positive. She is scheduled to return to court next Tuesday, May 3. An Amicus brief filed on Mrs. Grants behalf by Attorney Peter A. Reese, Esq. questioned, whether or not Erie County DA John Flynn and Election Commissioner Jerry Zellner were involved in a conspiracy to violate the civil liberties of Mrs. Grant, and concluded that “the court should dismiss the charges against Betty Jean Grant.”

Remembering Arlee “Joop” Daniels

L

ast Saturday, April 23 marked the birth date of Arlee "Joop" Daniels Jr. He would have celebrated his 63rd birthday. The passing of this beloved anti-violence worker, mentor and founder of the Stop the Violence Coalition last August 20 came as a shock to all who knew and loved him. Born in Buffalo, one of eight children of Ophelia Clementine Davis and Arlee Daniels Sr., he grew up in Ellicott Mall housing development. As a youngster he experienced the streets and even became a former gang member. But he ultimately became a beacon of integrity and a source of peace and inspiration to many. He was a community leader who wore many hats. He was the founder of Buffalo's Stop the Violence Coalition (STVC) and founder and coordinator for the Youth Intervention Project (YIP) - a program that offers youth and young adults the opportunity to obtain their General Education Diploma (G.E.D.). While they were in pursuit of their diplomas, Arlee mentored the youth on building life management skills. He was also the founder and coordinator of the Credible Messengers Program - a program that assisted young men and women detained in youth detention centers to better understand how bad behaviors effect their communities and families. Arlee worked in conjunction with the DA’s office and Buffalo Public Schools as a panelist to educate students regarding the dangers associated with gangs, drugs and guns. However his most successful accomplishment was on the day that he found Christ. When he surrendered to God, he shared the gospel by way of social media, texts, phone calls and one-onone conversations with everyone and he continued to mentor the youth . A celebration of life was held September 4, 2021 at True Bethel Baptist church, with Bishop Darius Pridgen, Pastor, officiating. “It seemed as if Arlee knew almost everybody on the East side,” Bishop Pridgen commented in a news article. “That’s how he acted, that’s how he treated people and that’s how he operated,” Arlee never stopped caring and trying to save our youth. He was a true soldier, and he eared his Heavenly Crown In memory of our beloved brother, the struggle must continue...

WISDOM OF THE HUA HU CHING 10

The ego is a monkey catapulting through the jungle: Totally fascinated by the realm of the senses, it swings from one desire to the next, one conflict to the next, one self-centered idea to the next. If you threaten it, it actually fears for its life. Let this monkey go. Let the senses go. Let desires go. Let conflicts go. Let ideas go. Let the fiction of life and death go. Just remain in the center, watching. And then forget that you are there.

Speak to an attorney or go to the court where your case is pending for further information on how to answer the summons and protect your property. Sending a payment to the mortgage company will not stop the foreclosure action. YOU MUST RESPOND BY SERVING A COPY OF THE ANSWER ON THE ATTORNEY FOR THE PLAINTIFF (BANK OF AMERICA) AND FILING THE ANSWER WITH THE COURT. HELP FOR HOMEOWNERS IN FORECLOSURE; New York State law requires that we send you this notice about the foreclosure process. Please read it carefully. Please read the Summons and Complaint carefully. You should immediately contact an attorney of your local legal aid office to obtain advice on how to protect yourself. SOURCES OF INFORMATION AND ASSISTANCE The State encourages you to become informed about your options in foreclosure. In addition to seeking assistance from an attorney or legal aid office, there are government agencies and nonprofit organizations that you may contact for information about possible options, including trying to work with your lender during this process. To locate an entity near you, you may call the toll-free helpline maintained by the New York State Department of Financial Services’ at 1-800269-0990 or visit the Department’s website at http://www.dfs.ny.gov. FORECLOSURE RESCUE SCAMS Be careful of people who approach you with offers to “save” your home.

There are individuals who watch for notices of foreclosure actions in order to unfairly profit from a homeowner’s distress. You should be extremely careful about any such promises and any suggestions that you pay them a fee or sign over your deed. State law requires anyone offering such services for profit to enter into a contract which fully describes the services they will perform and fees they will charge, and which prohibits them from taking any money from you until they have completed all such promised services. We are attempting to collect a debt. Any information obtained will be used for that purpose. NOTICE TO DEFENDANT DURING THE CORONAVIRUS EMERGENCY, YOU MIGHT BE ENTITLED BY LAW TO TAKE ADDITIONAL DAYS OR WEEKS TO FILE AN ANSWER TO THIS COMPLAINT. PLEASE CONTACT YOUR ATTORNEY FOR MORE INFORMATION.
