Mayor Warren, Community Stakeholders Celebrate Start of East Main Street Revitalization Project with Groundbreaking Ceremony The Frederick Douglass Monument Ten thousand people witnessed the unveiling of a bronze monument honoring Frederick Douglass in Rochester on June 9, 1899. New York Governor Theodore Roosevelt delivered the keynote address at this important event. The sculpture that portrayed the great abolitionist, writer, speaker, educator and statesman was the first public statue in the United States to honor an African American citizen. John W. Thompson, a member of Rochester’s African American community, originated the monument project and for five years worked tirelessly to fund it and bring it to completion. Throughout the first quarter of the 20th century Thompson organized annual Douglass Day celebrations. (Source: “Images AfroRochester 1910-1935")
Mayor Lovely A. Warren joined community leaders and stake holders today to celebrate the start of the East Main Street Revitalization Project. “This is the celebration of people, not a road,” said Mayor Warren. “The revitalization of East Main Street will transform this stretch of road into a true community street and improve the quality of life for the residents of three neighborhoods that border it. Investing in our neighborhoods plays a major role in our efforts to create more jobs, safer more vibrant and affordable neighborhoods and better educational opportunities.” The East Main Street project extends from North Goodman Street to Culver Road and follows many years of negotiations involving stakeholders in the Beechwood, EMMA (East Main Mustard and Atlantic) and ACE (Atlantic Culver East Main) neighborhoods and other stakeholders. Neighborhood leaders have been asking for a re-design for more than 10 years. The design complies with many of the initiatives adopted by Mayor Warren to focus on quality of life in construction projects. These include the Complete Streets Policy, which calls for road designs that better accommodate pedestrians, bicyclists and persons with physical disabilities; the Dig Once Policy to consider future plans for underground utilities including Internet and the “Rochester 2034” comprehensive plan to enhance
an area’s unique sense of place.
It includes a 5-foot-wide cycle track; new sidewalks; curbs and curb ramps; tree plantings; a mid-block crosswalk with a
pedestrian island; and gateway signs. This $9.9 million project is funded with federal, state, city and county funds, including a $1.5 million Empire State Development grant and will generate 129 construction jobs. The estimated completion date is fall of 2022.

AKOMA African American Women’s Gospel Choir is pleased to begin the process for its annual Nona Patterson Chambers merit scholarship. Part of AKOMA’s mission is to provide scholarship assistance to deserving college bound African American women who will graduate in June 2021 from an accredited high school in the Greater Rochester area; will attend college full-time in September 2021; and who are involved in community and church activities. REMEMBERING MR BURDINE: Warren Buster Burdine Sr., affectionally. Known as “Mr. Burdine” to his countless customers, is pictured above standing outside his grocery store, “Jeff-Ferry Deli,” located at 1440 Jefferson Avenue near E. Ferry. Back in the day Burdine’s Deli was among a host of Black-owned delis and stores on the east side. Known for their delicious hand-packed ice cream, well-stocked shelves, “Wall of Photos,” and Mr. Burdine’s infinite wisdom, the friendly neighborhood establishment was a lifeline to many Cold Spring residents who had no supermarket nearby at the time. Mr. Burdine was very conscientious and knowledgeable about world events and Black history. He actively managed the business until the mid 2000’s when ill health forced him to close and sell the building - but not before he made sure that the new owner was Black and community minded. He made his transition on January 26, 2010 at age 84. Today The Ink Spot, which offers a variety of services to the community, occupies the building. Mr. Burdine would be proud! Blyden Named UNIA Minister of Information Buffalo Division #433 President Lion Blyden has been promoted to the position of UNIA-ACL Minister of Information. In addition, the new Negro Voice show can now be seen on the 433TV You Tube Page. The Buffalo Division is marking its sixth anniversary this year and is changing its name to the “Montgomery-Burrows Division 433” in honor of two historical Buffalonian Garveyites - Rosa Montgomery and Percival Burrows. Citizens Coalition Calls on City to Take Down School Zone Cameras A coalition of concerned citizens is calling on the Common Council to take down school zone speed cameras. A certified fraud examiner and urban planner recently reported his findings to the Council - among them - that the program disproportionately targets high poverty minority neighborhoods and is “a form of systemic racism.” Erie County Clerk Michael Kearns in a Buffalo News interview, called the cameras “scam cams.” The Council will reportedly respond to the report and findings submitted to them in two weeks.
Owner Sheila Brown Responds to Ruling in A Religious Bias Suit Against the Station Sheila L. Brown, owner of Vision Multimedia Group and operator of WUFO 1080AM and Power 96.5 FM, released the following statement regarding news that a nearly $500,000 religious bias suit settlement against the station from an ex-employee. “In reference to the article in the February 15 Buffalo News, this surprise judgement was made in default and the Judge's ruling was based on a technicality that wasn’t due to any wrongdoing of Vision Multimedia Group. "As the owner and operator of this heritage station, I know full well that the workplace has to be a safe space for people of all genders, faiths, creeds and sexual preferences. I pride myself in having a very diverse team that flourishes in a work environment where evSheila Brown eryone and every idea is respected and valued. “Our lawyers are reviewing the decision and are gathering information to help us determine our next steps.” Mrs. Brown is the first African-American woman to own a radio station in Western New York. This year the “legendary WUFO” is celebrating its 60th anniversary of on-air service to Western New York and the African American community.
Buffalo Five Court Date Postponed By Sherry Sherrill

ohn Walker of the Buffalo Five said news that the Tuesday Feb. 16 court date had been postponed due to winter weather was "both good and bad." Although the delay was disappointing, the fact that the Judge preferred to conduct proceedings face to face with him and Darryl Boyd instead of virtually, gave him hope that justice might finally be served. It also gives them more time to bring awareness to the their struggle and to garner more support. Erie County District Attorney John Flynn is opposing their Motion To Vacate Judgement of Erie County Indictment Number 41-413. The community is asked to call D.A. Flynn at (716)858 -2424 and ask him not to oppose the Motion to Vacate Indictment 41-413. Judge Christopher J. Burns, who is presiding in Part One's Ceremonial Courtroom, will be ruling whether 1976 crime scene photographs of a lone assailant's footprints constitutes “new evidence” in the Matter(s) of

The “Fresh Packs” program offers fresh fruit, vegetables, and other healthy options at no charge for those in need. Students can place orders by noon each Wednesday and pick up their Fresh Packs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Fridays at The Park, D’Youville’s student advocacy center. NiK Peavy, director of student development and advocacy, coordinates the Fresh Packs program. “With the Fresh Packs, students are able to easily access food that is fresh, healthy, and nutritious,” Peavy says. “In addition, D’Youville can inject funds into the West Side and support a Black-owned business by partnering with the African Heritage Co-Op.” Alexander J. Wright, JD, who has run the African Heritage Food Co-Op for five years, says the Co-Op is “ecstatic” to be part of this new program. “We hope that many students take advantage of this opportunity,” Wright says. “It’s important for everyone to have access to affordable, healthy food. This includes those pursuing higher education who often have limited resources.” The Co-Op supplies the produce as well as staff to help hand out the Fresh Packs. Food insecurity among college students is a rising problem in the U.S. A 2019 survey found that nearly 40 percent of college students reported being food-insecure at some point during the school year. “For several years, D’Youville has run its own Campus Cupboard, which offers nonperishable food and personal items to students in need,” Peavy says. “With the Fresh Packs program, we can now offer fresh options, which are often difficult to find outside of a trip to the grocery store.” To learn more about the Fresh Packs program, contact Peavy at 716-829-7812 or peavyn@dyc.edu.

Originally from Bessemer Alabama she was schooled in Birmingham. After graduating from Tuskegee University, Virginia moved to Lackawanna, New York in 1944. In 1953 she Married Booker T. Minor. She was preceded in death by her husband Booker and daughter Dinah . Virginia leaves to cherish her memory four sons, Ronald (Marie) Hinkle, Reginald, Larry D. and Todd (Darlene) Minor; two sisters Devonia Blue of Buffalo and Charlene (John) Caldwell of Birmingham; seven gandchilden, nine great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.

Sleep: The Underdog of Health “He that can take rest is greater than those that can take cities” Benjamin Franklin
After air and water, the body’s need for sleep is most important. Believe it or not, adequate sleep is more important than food. But sleep is often the one thing we neglect the most. The human body cannot survive more than three minutes without air or three days without water. After three days of insufficient sleep, the body begins to show the signs of sleep deprivation. How long can the body survive without food? Three weeks! In our go-getter, do more, be more society, sleep is something for babies and the lazy. But one will never reach their full potential or experience true health and wellness without adequate sleep. Sleep is essential for our physical, mental, and spiritual health. It is estimated that more than a third (some estimate up to 70%) of American adults are not getting enough sleep on a regular basis. What happens to the body while Sleeping? Dr. Frank Lipman explains, “When you sleep, your brain protects itself from toxic proteins…this overnight cleanup keeps the brain clear and healthy”. Adequate sleep improves learning, memory, decision making, and problem-solving skills. Your body goes into recovery and healing mode, repairing muscles, organs, and cells. The immune system is dependent on sleep, as certain antibodies are produced during sleep. What happens when you get insufficient sleep? The CDC has said, “Insufficient sleep is a public health epidemic.”. Sounds a little dramatic right? It’s not. The impacts of consistently not getting enough sleep are extremely harmful. Lack of sleep can make you biologically older and results in a body and mind wired for stress. It also causes an increased risk of: •Weight gain •High blood pressure •Anxiety •Weakened immune system •Mood changes •Poor focus, concentration, and memory How much sleep do you need? The National Sleep Foundation has recommendations for each age group. For adults aged 18-64, the recommendation is 7-9 hours of sleep per night. For adults 65 or more, the recommendation is 7-8 hours per night. How to Improve Your Sleep? •Make sleep a priority •Stick to the same sleeping schedule every day (even weekends) •Develop a nighttime/bedtime routine •Disconnect from electronic devices at least a half-hour before bed •Don’t have caffeine after noon Remember, being healthy, happy, and whole is your birthright and good sleep promotes good health. Park Vue Featured on "Restaurant Impossible"
P
ark Vue Soul Food Bar and Restaurant was featured on “Restaurant Impossible” with Chef Robert Irvine on Discovery February 9th. The family owned and operated restaurant was chosen by the show based off their Google reviews. The goal of the show is with two days and a budget of $10,000, host Robert Irvine and his team renovate a restaurant that is facing challenges with the goal of helping to restore it to profitability and prominence. During this episode mother/daughter co-owners Harrita West and Schenita Williams show complete transparency, ambition, and hard work as they give their all to make the restaurant a staple in the community. As a result, the restaurant and business was entirely reinvigorated. God Wouldn’t Want Segregated Sanctuaries BLACK PEOPLE, both free and enslaved, relied on their faith to hold onto their humanity under the most inhumane circumstances. In 1787, the Rev. Richard Allen and other Black congregants walked out of services at St. George’s Methodist Episcopal Church in Philadelphia to protest its segregated congregations. Allen, an abolitionist who was born enslaved, had moved to Philadelphia after purchasing his freedom. There he joined St.George’s, where he initially preached to integrated congregations. It quickly became clear that integration went only so far. He was directed to preach a separate service designated for Black parishioners. Dismayed that Black people were still treated as inferiors in what was meant to be a holy space, Allen founded the African Methodist Episcopal denomination and started the Mother Bethel A.M.E..Church. For communities of free people of color, churches like Allen’s were places not only of sanctuary but also of education, organizing and civic engagement, providing resources to navigate a racists society in a slave nation. Allen and his successors connected the community, pursued social justice and helped guide Black Reverend Richard Allen congregants as they transitioned to freedom. The African Methodist Episcopal Church grew rapidly; today at least 7,000 A.M.E. congregations exist around the world including Allen’s original church.

Coles was the first African American to win the Rotch Traveling Scholarship awarded by the Boston Society of Architects, the first African American Chancellor of the American Institute of Architects (AIA), [ the first AIA Vice-President for Minority Affairs, and a founding member of the National Organization of Minority Architects (NOMA). In 1963, Coles opened his firm Robert Traynham Coles, Architect in Buffalo, New York, making it the first African American owned firm in New York State and in the Northeast. His first project was the commission of his thesis project, the Ellicott District Recreation Center, known today as the John F. Kennedy Recreation Centre by the city of Buffalo. Coles considered his firm's first project also his first advocacy project, emerging from conversations with a community facing the threat of urban renewal. Robert T. Coles House and Studio (Humboldt Pkwy,Buffalo NY) is significant under Criterion C as an outstanding and highly intact example of mid-twentieth century Modern residential architecture in Buffalo. Designed and constructed in 1961 by its owner, a prominent local architect, the building used prefabricated and pre-cut components in its construction that were drawn from Coles’s experience working for the Techbuilt Company, an innovative mid-century prefabricated housing manufacturer. As such, the Coles house is an excellent example of many new ideas in modern residential architecture that were developed following World War II, including mass-production, use of new materials, and modularity. However , Coles also customized the design to suit his own needs, which included incorporating both his professional office and his family home into the structure. Sherill Colston: The Story Behind The Door
O
ver fifty years ago, Sherill Colston had a dream to better himself, his family and his community. With his home and car as collateral for a $2,500 loan, Colston made that dream a reality when he founded Colston and Son Mobil in 1964 and subsequently incorporated in 1979. Until this day, Colston and Son Mobil was the only Black owned and operated Mobil Oil franchise in the WNY area. During the time of its operation, Colston and Son Mobil boasted annual sales of more than #$2.5 million. Colston, who came from humble beginnings, has had a storied career as a self-made entrepreneur in a White male dominated industry. The recipient of many awards, including but not limited to, Small Businessman Award ,1979 Keynote Speaker at the Mobil Oil Dealers’ Convention and Lifetime Achievement Award. Colston will be the first to tell you that at the time he began his business he had a “tough road to hoe” because of barriers and obstacles designed to limit and frustrate the ability for Black businesses to survive let alone thrive. Colston has always been steadfast in his resolve and more than willing to roll up his sleeves to get the job done. He credits that resolve to his parents, the fact that he comes from a family of fifteen siblings and last but not least his faith in God. Paying it forward is one of Colston’s tenets that he lives by and he has demonstrated that commitment in numerous ways. In his many civic duties, Colston has paid it forward by being the former treasurer of the Buffalo Chapter of People United to Save Humanity, a lifelong member of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, former Chairperson of the Buffalo Municipal Housing Authority, sponsor of Black Achievers in Industry Awards and many other civic engagements.

Buffalo Bills News The NFL Honors awards awarded Brian Daboll the assistant coach of the year but snubbed Sean McDermott for Coach of the Year as Kevin Stefanski who joined the Cleveland Browns as their Head Coach coming from the Vikings organization as a Offensive Coordinator led the Browns to an 11-5 record. The problem with this is that the Browns were 3rd in their division and their strength of schedule was in the bottom 4 in the NFL compared to the Buffalo Bills 5th hardest schedule in 2020. So wait a minute, McDermott only grasped 7 of the 50 first place votes and Stefanski got 25. Please make this make sense. He inherited a plenty decent roster and had the 4th easiest schedule and clinched a playoff berth the last week of the season and this guy landslides a coach who had a 13-3 record and if it wasn't for Hail Murray would have went 14-2 and inherited the 5th hardest schedule and he gets almost the same consideration as Brian Flores who had 6 first place votes. The same Miami team that got their cheeks clapped by the Bills 56-26 when their playoff aspirations were on the line. Come on Sports World, we have to stop with this type of bias. This is just sickening and disturbing. How can anyone be okay with knowing the facts of this matter and allowing that to happen? Then again, we are seeing this type of bias in all aspects of life, so I guess I shouldn't be surprised huh? Moving on. NFL Talk The Super Bowl 55 game this year was a real flop as many thought this would be an exciting and action packed game but only turned out to be a clear mismatch. We again saw things that usually doesn't happen like Patrick Mahomes only having 100 yards passing after 3 quarters or the 201920 Super Bowl MVP running for his life the entire game without Tampa Bay really blitzing or the fact that the Chiefs only scored 9 points and Patrick Mahomes worst defeat came as Tampa Bay beat the brakes off the Chiefs 31-9. Rob Gronkowski and Antonio Brown accounted for Tom Brady's 3 touchdown passes. A lot of credit needs to be given to Byron Leftwich and Todd Bowles as they called phenomenal gameplans on both sides of the ball. The announcement was made that Tom Brady will be back next season and on a somber note Patrick Mahomes will have offseason surgery to fix his injured toe. NBA Talk As the All-Star game approaches Kevin Durant and Lebron James lead the voting currently in their respective conferences. Stephen Curry and Bradley Beal lead in the guards category. But wait a minute, how does Damien Lillard have more votes than Donovan Mitchell? Klay Thompson hasn't played all year but almost has as many votes as Chri Paul does? Laughable at best. Buffalo Welcomes Renowned Author and Activist Margaret Kimberley In honor of Black History Month and President’s Day, the Theodore Roosevelt Inaugural Site ) will welcome author and activist Margaret Kimberley to its online Speaker Nite series, at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, February 23. Kimberley, who has been described by Cornel West as “one of the few great truth tellers,” will be discussing her recent book, 'Prejudential: Black America and the Presidents.' Her book uses
the lens of the presidents, who have been elected to represent all Americans, to explore the country’s relationship with race and black Americans. Haiti: Black Despots and White Rulers Erie County Democratic Party Treats Black

he horror story in Haiti
since 2004 is not really about despotic Black government, but is the consequence and crime of global white rule. The past week has seen growing protests against the contested presidency of Haiti’s Jovenel Moïse. An unpopular figure who has ruled without a mandate, and, increasingly, by decree , Moïse refused to relinquish power when his presidential term expired on February 7, 2021. While claiming that his term ends in February 2022, Moïse has lashed out against his political rivals, arresting his critics, members of opposition political parties, and supreme court judges, all the while consolidating his draconian, some would say dictatorial, rule over Haiti. How Haiti arrived at this moment is predictable and unsurprising. Moïse’s election was marred by fraud , extremely low voter turnout, and protests challenging his candidacy. He was handpicked by his predecessor, Michel Martelly, a neo-Duvalierist and former member of the notorious tonton macoutes who himself was installed by the Obama administration. As with Martelly, Moïse’s path to the Haitian presidency was paved by U.S., Canadian, and French funding and support. And like Martelly, Moïse has been credibly accused of corruption , embezzlement, and the theft of national funds . Moïse has also followed Martelly’s lead in expanding the revived Haitian military. He refused to organize parliamentary elections, allowing the terms of parliament to expire in January 2020 in order to rule by decree. Moïse’s administration has been exceedingly brutal in its repression of Haitian activists groups, widening and deepening death squad style repression across the country, allegedly funding and emboldening groups such as the “G9” – a violent gang led by former police member, Jimmy “Barbecue” Cherizier – which has been terrorizing prodemocracy activists. Yet, it is all too easy to demonize Moïse. As calls for his removal increase, many critics have fallen into a typical trap when it comes to Haiti: focusing on one individual – the invariably “Black despot” – as
I the source and root of all evil in Haiti’s politics. By doing so, rarely are important questions asked about how Moïse came to power, how he has been able to get away with his increasingly autocratic actions and, until now, how he has survived calls for his ouster, let alone the curtailment of his powers. To ask such questions is to recognize that Moïse is not a sovereign political force. Instead, Moïse is the product of a broader system blocking Haiti’s democratic path and sovereignty, a system that is built and maintained by the white rulers of the world. To understand how white rule functions in Haiti is to recognize that Haiti is and has been under foreign military and political control. The second occupation , following the first occupation from 1915 to 1934, began in 2004 soon after the U.S.France-Canada-backed 2004 coup d’état against the popularly elected president, Jean Bertrand Aristide. This coup d’état led to the establishment, in June 2004, of a multinational military occupation force under the auspices of the United Nations (with changing acronyms and shifting mandates over the years). It is an occupation that is led and controlled by a group of white nations and White-dominated institutions: the United States, France, Canada, the United Nations, and the OAS. This is in conjunction with the CORE Group – a group composed of special representatives from the UN Secretary General and the Organization of American States, as well as ambassadors from Brazil, Canada, France, Spain, the European Union, and the U.S. The Core group appointed itself as arbiters of Haitian politics. “It is an occupation that is led and controlled by a group of white nations and White-dominated institutions.”
It is these White rulers of the world who continue to fund and supply the Moïse government with arms, ammunition, and tear gas. It is the White rulers who spent millions building prisons in Haiti and funding and training the Haitian police and military. It is the whiter rulers who have turned a blind eye to the atrocities of the Moïse administration. It is the White rulers who have condoned the lack of parliamentary elections, the ruling of the country by decree, and the rewriting of the Haitian constitution. Most importantly, it is the white rulers who have affirmed Moïse’s illegal extension of his ruling mandate. The fight for Haitian sovereignty is against these white rulers of the world. Indeed, it is easy to focus on the Black despot – Moïse as the dictator in the making. But we cannot ignore that there is a global white supremacist structure that creates the condition of possibility for someone like Moïse. This is the structure that exacts its power with laser precision, without regard to human rights or sovereignty. Especially when it comes to Haiti. It is also a structure that can easily replace Moïse with another despot when he is no longer useful to the white rulers.
At this moment of intensifying crisis, the questions confronting us should be: what does it mean to speak of elections, the rule of law, democracy, and constitutional mandates in Haiti when its people have no rights – the Haitian nationstate, no sovereignty – that the white rulers are bound to respect? What is a constitutional crisis – what are elections – when a nation is under full political and military occupation?
wish I did not have to write this, but I have come to the conclusion that the Erie County Democratic Committee is not going to respect Black Democrats as a political force to be reckoned with, until we realize our worth and the power we give to the party here in Erie County. Black Erie County voters vote almost exclusively democrat. But when we Blacks run for a countywide position, we are either discouraged from running or, if we do snag the endorsement, we are not supported financially as much as non-Black candidates. Look at the Bernie Tolbert and Vanessa Glushelski elections, and you will see what I am talking about. Simply stated, Kimberly Lynn Beaty can win the Erie County Sheriff's race. All it takes for that to happen, is for the Democrat Party to give their endorsement to the most qualified candidate running: Kim Beaty, and for our democratic political leaders, especially those that represent Buffalo residents, to officially endorse her. But sadly it does not appear that is going to happen. In a statement shared with Channel 2 just days ago, Beaty wrote in part:"...For personal and professional reasons, I will no longer seek endorsement from the Erie County Democratic committee. This experience has been eyeopening. I am hopeful that someday, the party boss will truly work to advance the needs of our whole community." As a candidate who has run and won, sometimes without party backing, I speak from a position of knowledge, experience and also as a casualty of backroom dealings. I also speak from a policy of transparency, and a commitment to always speak truth to power. If I were advising Ms. Beaty, I would have advised her to (1) officially announce her candidacy, (2) launch her political website, and (3) widely publish her platform and the reason(s) she wants to run for an office and position that has been grossly mismanaged for years! I would also tell her to run to win, with or without the Erie County Democrat Committee's endorsement for Erie County Sheriff. Finally, I would have advised her to call all those elected officials who have come, time and time again, to Buffalo's Black democratic bloc of voters to ask for our support. Now is the time that we ask for their political payback to our community. Kim Lynn Beaty is experienced, educated, community-connected, and possesses another great attribute in addition to these - she can actually win!

Beyond a Housing Crisis: “Race for Profit” Takes a Critical Look at Black Home Ownership Race for Profit an acclaimed book penned by Keeanga-Yamahtta Taylor, reveals how banks and the real estate industry undermined Black homeownership in America. “Black homeownership is now at a 50-year low,” she pointed out in a recent interview in Mother Jones Magazine. “It’s down to 40 percent, with no apparent recovery in sight. It’s as if we’ve just accepted this inequality that’s embedded in our society.” Race for Profit uncovers how exploitative real estate practices continued well after housing discrimination was banned. The same racist structures and individuals remained intact after redlining’s end, and close relationships between regulators and the industry created incentives to ignore improprieties. Meanwhile, new policies meant to encourage low-income homeownership created new methods to exploit Black homeowners. Race for Profit, called “a groundbreaking new book by The New Yorker, was a 2020 Pulitzer Prize in History finalist as well as a 2019 National Book Award Finalist, among a host of other awards and distinguished acknowledgements. Keeanga-Yamahtta Taylor is assistant professor of African American studies at Princeton University .

he new class of Hall of Famers are Guard Alan Faneca, Coach Tom Flores, wide receiver Calvin Johnson, safety John Lynch, quarterback Peyton Manning, Contributor Bill Nunn, wide receiver Drew Pearson, and cornerback Charles Woodson. Charles Woodson and Peyton Manning are obvious first ballot electors. We all also remember Mega Tron Calvin Johnson dominating for the Detroit Lions. He played 9 seasons and 135
games starting 130 of them. He had eight consecutive games of over 100 yards or more and held NFL receiving yards record in a season (2012) with 1,964 yards. Drew Pearson was one of the first Dallas Cowboys wide receivers who made clutch catches throughout his career He teamed with QB Roger Staubach for the most memorable 50-yard touchdown reception in a divisional playoff game against Minnesota Vikings, such the name “Hail
Mary” was born from this play. I think Drew Pearson should have already been in NFL Hall of Fame almost 30 years ago. It’s a shame that quiet guys that go about their job without fanfare are overlooked for this long of a period of time. ential Black newspapers in the country. Mr. Nunn developed relationships and became very knowledgeable with Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). He especially became very familiar with HBCU coaches and players. His knowledge was so strong that The Pittsburgh Steelers organization hired him as a scout and he eventually became known as “the Architect” of the dominating Pittsburgh Steelers teams of the 70’s. He recruited players like John Stallworth (Alabama A & M), Mel Blount (Southern), and Donnie Shell (South Carolina State). Mr. Nunn also had a knack for going to the tiny schools and coming back with Hall of Fame talent like Jack Lambert (Kent State). Nunn was the man behind the scenes that helped draft many players who played integral roles in leading the Pittsburgh Steelers to six Super Bowl appearances during his tenure. The discussion " Re-presenting Afrofuturism Our Past Our Present Our Future" will be moderated by Buffalo Wakanda Alliance and The Galactic Tribe featuring panelists that include creative director Royalty Cosplay, journalist and author of Rise of The Black Panther; Evan Narcisse, graphic artist; Stacey Robinson, vocalist songwriter Genecist; and a fifth surprise guest panelist to be announced.
