Inspiration from Trailers
American Beauty • http://www.youtube.com/w atch?v=3ycmmJ6rxA8 • In the beginning of “American Beauty”, there are medium shots of Kevin Spacey, watching his wife from inside the window. We would like to use this for our beginning shots, to show Dan’s interest in Mia. But, also it makes the atmosphere quite mysterious and chilling, which is what we want our audience to feel.

http://www.youtube.com/watch? v=ZLRgAe2jLaw Throughout the trailer, Kevin speaks a monologue, that doesn’t really relate to the clips being shown, as they are significant slips in the film that are merged together, just to give a sense of what the film is about. Whilst Kevin’s monologue makes the audience curious. This is a good technique that my group would like to use because, it draws the audience in, as they wouldn’t be able to understand what the plot is, but still get a sense of the thriller aspects of the film.
Harry Potter and the chamber of secrets- Diary scene •

http://www.youtube.com/watch? v=-CkY8zQU-Mw This is where Harry is sucked into the diary to experience the past, which is similar to our film. The editors use a special effect where the light spreads in the centre of the diary, then the camera is in front of it in a medium shot, and a huge beam of light appears. Due to us not being able to all of the effects the editor did with the diary, we will use aspects of it, and use a trick with the cinematography to show that Dan has been engulfed into it.
Ghost • http://www.youtube.com/w atch?v=fxdK5Q60opQ • In the beginning the music is very calming to create a romantic atmosphere, and the shot pace is normal. However, a quarter into the film, disequilibrium occurs and the shot pace become faster to show all the action parts of the film, to suite their target audience. This is exactly what we need for our trailer.
