Website analysis

Page 1

Navigational menu They have put the menu around the film title, probably because; the viewer will see the title straight away due to it being in the centre of the page. Therefore, they will also see the menu bar straight away, making it more noticeable for their viewers. Rather than having the menu at the top of the page

Image The editor has used the exact same image as the poster, to show a combination between the two texts. The only difference is, is that because the website is landscape; they have to fill more of the page. Therefore, the editor has just extended the image of the poster, such as showing more water and mist. Also, lowering Leonardo DiCaprio’s face, so it is nearer to the mist as this is a landscape page. Whilst on the poster there was a larger gap between the mist and his face.

They have placed the trailer at the top of the page, and moved DiCaprio’s face to the left. This is because, most of the website is covered with the image, and therefore, it is best to put the trailer on empty space, such as the black spaces at the top

Pictures of DVDs The editor is advertising not just through the trailer, but also adding pictures of the DVD. Similarly, when you hover over the DVD’s it gives you an option to order online. This is more persuasive to buy the DVD, because they are telling their viewers that they just have to click this button and they can buy it, rather than having to shop for it.

They invite the viewer to share their views on the film. This makes the site more interactive

Film Title They have used the exact same film title, as it creates a combination between the poster and website and acts as an identity for the film.

Navigational menu They have placed the menu at the top of the page, on a different colour. This is to separate the menu bar from the main, which makes the menu more noticeable. As it would just blend into the reviews, as they would have to still use a white font to keep with the colour scheme, if they placed the menu bar on the black space

Image The image they have used is the exact same image as the poster. This is to create a combination between the two texts. Also, because the website is a landscape page and surrounding the main image is black empty space means the editor has to fill this space with reviews. They have added star and worded reviews, such as “utterly intense”. And so, they have added short reviews on the side of the image, to help enlarge the main image which helps to cover the black empty space surrounding the main image. Also, they have added two large boxes at the top to cover the space. These boxes are the major nominations and awards in film; therefore they are advertising whilst filling the space Embedded Trailer Unlike the Shutter Island website, the video is not on this current page, because they do not want to take away from the image and reviews therefore the trailer is on a separate link

Reviews They have shown star ratings and worded reviews, like “riveting”, to be able to assure their viewers that this is a quality film.

Navigational menu They have placed the menu bar above the trailer, this is because it is most noticeable there, rather than having it at the very top of the page.

Image Unlike the other two posters, the Bourne Legacy website, only uses the poster on the right side of the page, and doesn’t use all the graphics of the poster, such as the writing around his body. They have instead, added another image on the left, showing the protagonist jumping from a roof top. This is very enticing, because it shows the danger and action in the film, rather than just having an image of the actor posing like the other two websites. Therefore, it gives a sense of the atmosphere is the film ,tension and excitement, as this is what we feel when we see the gun on the left, and him jumping from a roof top on the right.

Pictures of DVD Surrounding the trailer, they have put a picture of the DVDs, and on the other side in large writing they have said “Own it now. They are using persuasive techniques to make their viewers buy the DVD.

Embedded Trailer They have placed the trailer in the centre of the website, because they are indicating to the viewers that they need to watch the trailer.

Reviews Just like the Zero Dark Thirty website, they have added reviews to emphasise to their viewers that this a good quality film.

They emphasise that the viewers need to buy the DVD, by showing them all the places they can, making it accessible for them

Film Title They have used the exact same film title, as it creates a combination between the poster and website and acts as an identity for the film.
