CLOSET RE-DUX

TV shows like “Tidying Up with Marie Kondo” and “Get Organized with the Home Edit” inspire us to rethink our closet space. Spring and summer is a great time to do just that and a perfect excuse to get rid of tired winter clothing and things we have not worn for several years. But how do we get started? First, take everything out of your closet and put it on your bed? Yes. Really. This is the advice given by most organizational experts. It makes you make a decision on every item in your closet. It also gives you a solid goal to finish the project—especially if you want to sleep in your bed any time soon! Now look at your empty closet. Do you need to replace old shelves. Do you want nice baskets or bins for items? Do you need a complete closet re-design? Is this something you can do yourself? Do you need to call in a professional? A custom design can transform your closet into a clutter-free space. Cabinets, storage shelves, and hanging rods will organize every piece of clothing you own. Corner shelves will maximize your storage space and provide just the right place for purses, extra pillows, blankets, and other bulky items. Once you have determined what kind of closet you want, it is time to purge. The experts say to make three piles: items to keep, items to donate or sell, and items to throw away. Look at each item. If it “brings you joy,” as Marie Kondo says, place it in the items to keep pile. If it does not fit or does not bring you joy, place it in the donate or sell pile. If it is too worn for anyone to wear, discard it. Try applying the “six month rule”—have you worn it in the past six months? Will you wear it in the next six? After completing the three piles, take your donations to thrift stores like Wellspring, Clothes Less Traveled, and A Better Way Bargains in Peachtree City. If you want to sell your better quality clothes, place them in area consignment stores or sell them on internet sites like Poshmark. When it is time to organize your closet, consider these things. Put your winter clothes into bins on the top shelf of your closet. Then, in fall, switch everything out. Keep your current summer clothes on easy-to-reach rods and shelves. Organize them by type and color of clothing, placing them on proper hangers for shirts and pants. Now, go out and enjoy your summer. Your closet re-dux is done!

AN ACTIVE APPROACH TO A FULFILLING LIFESTYLE

Built around the pillars of Fitness, Relationships, Education and Entertainment, the lifestyle program at Cresswind Peachtree City by Kolter Homes stands above other active adult communities in the metro-Atlanta area. The program was developed specifi cally for those 55+ to help them live better, longer. Having a full-time, onsite Lifestyle Director that is completely devoted to planning a full calendar of activities and events is another area where this active adult community puts the focus on residents.

Active adult residents at Cresswind have endless opportunities for meeting people and establishing new relationships. There’s always something to do and an incredible number of amenities, events and clubs designed to fi t your lifestyle – including all of the activities available at the resort-style clubhouse. Whether you’re interested in a morning swim or water aerobics class at the indoor pool, yoga and Zumba in the Cardio Studio or a painting class in the arts-and-crafts room, there’s something for everyone. Outside, residents can stay busy and active at the resort-style pool and tennis, pickleball and bocce courts. Residents also take advantage of the 100+ miles of golf cart and walking trails that connect the community to all that Peachtree City has to offer.

Cresswind Peachtree City’s Lifestyle Director keeps the calendar full of fun and enriching activities, even if those looked a little different this past year due to socialdistancing and safety guidelines. From weekly social clubs and outdoor concerts on the event lawn to golf cart parades and annual neighborhood Health & Hobby Fairs, the Lifestyle Director works each day to fi nd creative ways to keep residents active and engaged all year long.

Cresswind Peachtree City recently took home the Silver award in the 2020 National Association of Home Builders Housing Awards for best 55+ Lifestyle Program, and it’s no wonder why. If you’re looking for a new home built around you and an active adult lifestyle in a thriving community, visit Cresswind in person or online at CresswindPeachtreeCity.com to get started.
