CHARLOTTE COUNTRY CLUB

A LETTER FROM THE GENERAL MANAGER

Dear Members,

Happy New Year and welcome to 2025! As we step into this new year, I am excited and optimistic about all that lies ahead. Whether you’re beating the cold in our Golf House, in the Game Room, or simply enjoying a delicious soup at The Porch, I hope these winter months are filled with warmth. Soon, you will be able to comfortably play tennis during the winter months in our brand new Indoor Tennis Facility.

This winter issue of The 1910 contains updates, events, and highlights that reflect an exciting season at our Club. We’ll be celebrating some incredible staff milestones—Mack Ferguson’s remarkable 70 years of service, Vanessa Sweat’s 45 years, and Betty Council’s 30 years. These milestones are a testament to the dedication and passion that have shaped our Club, and we couldn’t be prouder to have them as part of our team.

As always, be sure to mark your calendars for our Annual Meeting of the Membership and New Member Party taking place Tuesday, February 18. The Board will share valuable information regarding operations and provide more insight into the upcoming golf course restoration. Be sure to stay afterwards to welcome our 2024 new members to the Club.

Also in this issue, we’ve included some tips from our golf team to keep your game sharp over the winter, as well as details on upcoming events, camp dates, and more.

As we head into the new year, we look forward to another season of camaraderie, growth, and celebration. Thank you for being a part of our family, and we look forward to seeing you around the club!

Respectfully,

CELEBRATING

HERITAGE

CCC GIVES BACK

Each year, the CCC staff participate in a toy drive to spread a little holiday cheer to the Levine Children's Hospital. We are blown away by the generosity of our team!

At Charlotte Country Club, we take pride in the strong bonds of community we share and are committed to supporting and helping our team members flourish. We have a DIVE program, which stands for Diversity, Inclusion, Voices, and Equality. This program helps promote a culture enriched in diversity and inclusion at our Club. One such way we do this is by celebrating heritage! We have

Olinda Baylon Taylor Grossman

special "heritage months" throughout the year where we highlight staff of that heritage and learn more about their background and culture. We also have a special employee meal consisting of traditional regional cuisine each heritage month. This fall, we celebrated Hispanic Heritage Month and Italian Heritage Month, spotlighting staff members Olinda Baylon, born in Peru, and Taylor Grossman, whose family is from Northern Italy and Sicily.

INTRODUCING OUR NEW DIRECTOR OF EVENTS ALLISON DOANE

Help us welcome Allison Doane, our new Director of Events. Allison has been planning and executing events for nearly 15 years and worked in club events for almost nine years. Originally a Charlotte native, she and her family are excited to move back to the Charlotte area after being in Minnesota for five years, where she served as the Membership and Catering Sales Manager at Hazeltine National Golf Club. In her role, Allison oversaw a variety of events and managed the new members and waitlist; she also assisted in the planning, logistics, and execution for 2024 U.S. Amateur with the USGA. Prior to that, she was the Private Events Director at TPC Piper Glen in Charlotte for nearly four years.

She loves planning events and is excited to begin her role at the Club. “Charlotte Country Club is a very special and unique club that holds staff to a high standard in order to deliver exceptional experiences for their members. I was able to experience that during Club Ball and Ace of Clubs. I hope I am able to continue to do so for the members, while bringing my own spark and creative ideas to these five amazing event planners I am so privileged to manage.”

We look forward to having her on the team and rounding out our incredible event planning department!

MANAGERS IN DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM:

Developing Future Leaders in the Food and Beverage Industry

In recent years, the hospitality and club management industries have seen a significant shift in how they prepare and nurture future leaders. One such initiative gaining momentum is the Manager in Development (MID) program, which serves as a springboard for aspiring club leaders to transition into managerial roles.

The MID program at CCC was created in 2023 to offer individuals with limited leadership experience an opportunity to develop their skills in a real-world setting. Aspiring leaders enter the program to build a solid foundation of line-level experience while simultaneously gaining exposure to managerial responsibilities. This unique blend of hands-on learning and leadership development aims to prepare participants for a future role in Food and Beverage Management.

The program provides an in-depth experience across various departments within the food and beverage operations, ensuring that MID participants are well-rounded in every aspect of the business. By the end of the program, which typically spans a set rotation period, participants are expected to have the skills and knowledge necessary to step into a managerial position with confidence.

Currently, we have three MIDs learning the ropes of club management, Ali Arasin, Lexie Bado, and Alycia Moravec. We have several staff on our leadership team who went through the MID program, such as our Food and Beverage Managers Kyle Biallas and Katie Gallagher. We look forward to developing the next generation of leaders in our industry!

WEDDINGS

As we reflect on our 2024 wedding season, Charlotte Country Club had the pleasure of hosting 18 beautiful weddings – each one just as beautiful and special as the couples who celebrated their love with us. Throughout the year, our event planning and food and

beverage teams worked closely with the families to bring their unique wedding visions to life. From ceremonies celebrated on our event lawn space to grand ballroom reveals, late-night parties, and elegant tablescapes, each wedding was truly special in its own way. The club crafted over 50 unique specialty cocktails to serve, brainstormed unique ways to present food, and created over 75 different clubhouse layouts to ensure that each wedding had the details just right. We look forward to another year filled with love, joy, and celebration and we remain committed to providing our members with an exceptional wedding experience.

Whether you are planning your own celebration, or sponsoring someone who is looking for the perfect venue, we are here to make every moment memorable. Cheers to many more weddings to come!

GROWTH OF LADIES' INTERCLUB TENNIS

Introducing a Sixth Team in Spring of 2025

For nearly 40 years, Charlotte Country Club has had four Ladies' Interclub teams competing against other area country clubs and racquet clubs each Spring and Fall. Each team has grown to require 18 full-time players to field the weekly lineup of seven double matches, with a few substitutes who regularly attend weekly practices.

In the Spring of 2023, significant growth in new player participation in ladies' programs and other instruction allowed us to register a fifth team, CCC 5, to begin competition. Beth Jack and Elizabeth Fagg took the captain reins from the start, leading the team to immediate competitiveness. After just four short seasons, Abby Blanton and Stephanie Hanson captained the division-winning CCC 5 in the Fall of 2024. Quite an achievement!

Meanwhile, the waiting list to play Interclub has been growing again! New player participation in ladies' programs and other instruction, as well as in USTA League and Terri's Ladder play, has boomed. As a result, we will begin play for CCC 6 this Spring 2025 season, bringing our total to six Ladies' Interclub teams competing across seven divisions in Charlotte Interclub.

Recent successes include Team 3 winning their division twice, and Team 5 winning their division to avoid having an existing team as an intimidating presence in the same division. We also can't forget Team 4 winning their division by a landslide in Fall of 2024, marking a record-breaking three of five division-winning teams for our Club!

We extend our heartfelt thanks to the numerous captains, committee members, and all Interclub players for supporting this program and the great coaches who make improving fun!

INDOOR TENNIS

GET READY FOR THE INDOOR TENNIS FACILITY

We are so excited for you to experience the new Indoor Tennis Facility! Our goal was to create a premier indoor tennis environment while keeping costs in mind. This facility is one of only two in the country with sub-surface irrigated indoor clay courts, modeled after the Chevy Chase Club. This design ensures consistent playability and easier daily maintenance, without the excess moisture in the air caused by above-ground irrigation.

Most indoor seasons will begin November 1, at which time members can decide if they want to be an indoor user and avoid court fees for each usage. Not only do we expect most regular players to find this the better financial alternative, this will enable you and at least three others to reserve block court times for your weekly game.

By now, you have seen information regarding this partial season from inauguration through October 31. We look forward to hearing your feedback so that we can make any necessary adjustments prior to the first full year of operation beginning November 1.

INTRODUCING PRO-CORE SHAFT TECHNOLOGY

It’s not often that revolutionary enhancements come along in the golf industry that truly give us tangible benefits for our game. Cavity back irons, graphite shafts, and woods utilizing titanium are just a few items that come to mind when I think about game changing technology. However, I believe that something else is emerging that will enhance golf club performance and give golfers an unimaginable feel. I would like to introduce Pro-Core shaft insert technology.

What is Pro-Core? Simply put, it is a shaft dampener that weighs less than three grams and puts pressure on the inside wall of the golf shaft to not only dampen the vibrations that travel up and down the shaft during a golf shot, but to concentrate that energy back down to the head of the golf club, stabilizing the head for more pure contact. Each insert is placed into the butt end of the golf club, down the shaft to a location that allows it to fit snugly against the shaft wall at a certain amount of pressure. The pressure gauge measures the pressure precisely so that the device can give the golfer enough stress against the inside wall to optimize the feel and performance without adversely affecting the flex of the shaft or swing weight.

Shots feel more solid, dispersion is enhanced, and in many cases, distance is gained. The device has been tested extensively by golf club professionals, club fitters, and elite players using recognized launch monitors, such as TrackMan, GC2, and Flight Scope to measure its effectiveness. In essence, this device allows me, your club fitter, to truly tune in your golf clubs for optimal feel and performance based on your playing ability. The patented polymer in the insert, which decreases the vibrations, has given me a totally pleasurable feeling in shot feedback that’s hard to describe. Feel Pro-Core for yourself and schedule a club fit and installation in the Golf House.

TOUR AMBASSADOR PROGRAM

Did you know we have a Tour Ambassador Program (TAP) in place at our Club? This program allows golfers who are pursuing advancement of their golf career (participation in Q-School, playing a full professional schedule, or participating in a qualifying tournament) to utilize our golf facilities for practice. We allow a maximum of 12 golfers to join our program within a calendar year and they must be approved by the Green and Grounds Committee. Please introduce yourself next time you see one of our TAP golfers on the course!

L.A.B. GOLF PUTTERS NOW AVAILABLE

Lie Angle Balance (L.A.B.) technology was designed to help golfers deliver a square putter face at impact and gain consistancy on the greens. This patented technology eliminates torque and produces a repeatable swing, helping to keep the putter face square to the arc throughout the stroke. Recent studies show that approximately 85% of the ball's starting direction in putting comes from the angle of the putter face at impact. So, if you are often missing your intended line on the greens, it is very likely that your putter face at impact is the reason.

This technology was designed to help simplify the putting motion, so you can have the freedom to focus on the proper speed and direction of the putt. We are excited to announce that L.A.B. Golf putters will be offered as a new fitting option in the Golf House in 2025.

Please reach out to dperry@charlottecountryclub.org if you have any questions about L.A.B. Golf and putter fittings.
