Parents can visit charlottelatin.org/CelebrateLatin to bid on their child’s favorite Hawksperience. Highest bidder wins the Hawksperience for their child and the designated number of friends listed. Bidding starts January 21, 2022 and closes January 29 at 9:30 p.m.

HAWKSPERIENCES Pom Poms on the Sideline
Age: TK-Grade 3 Number of students:1-2 Date: Fall 2022 Location: Patten Stadium, Varsity Home Football Game Faculty: Coach Nancy Atwell Description: Cheer on the Hawks from the sidelines with the Varsity Cheerleading Squad! The winner and a friend will dress in spirit gear and join the Varsity Cheerleaders on the track for the 1st quarter of a Charlotte Latin home football game in fall 2022. Prepare for the big game by attending one after school cheer practice to learn cheers and the CLS fight song. Winner receives a $25 gift certificate to the Hawk Shop to pick out your new spirit gear.
Head of Lower School for the Day
Age: TK-Grade 5 Number of students: 1 Date: Friday, May 6 Location: Lower School Faculty: Mr. Mark Tayloe and Ms. Andria Quintero Description: Enjoy a day in the life of Mr. Tayloe and Mrs. Quintero! The lucky winner will spend the Friday before May Day Play Day helping run the Lower School. Be sure to dress like a professional as you greet students and visitors, observe in classrooms, judge the cakewalk cakes, make announcements, and handle any other responsibilities that may come your way. You never know what may happen on any given day in Lower School!
We All Scream for Ice Cream #1

Harry Potter Homeroom Sleep Under
Age: Grades 3-5 Number of students: one Grades 3-5 class Date: Friday, March 4; 6-8- p.m. Location: Lower School Library Faculty: Ms. Nancy Atwell, Mr. Andrew Hammitt, and Ms. Meghan Rinehart Description: A Sleep Under in the Lower School library. Grab your robe and wand and arrive with your classmates after hours at the CLS Hogwarts Castle. Students will learn magic and wizardry, play Quidditch games and eat pizza in the “Great Hall.” Later, gather together and enjoy a Harry Potter movie in the “Hogwarts Library.” 1
HAWKSPERIENCES Girl Power
Age: 3rd-5th grade Number of students: 3-5 girls Date: May 1st, 8, 15, 22 or 29. (choose from one of the following dates) Location: meet at Green Brothers Juice, Cotswold Faculty: Mrs Avery Teichman Description: Spend an afternoon of wellness with Mrs Teichman. Girls will go for a run, enjoy a smoothie at Green Brothers and end their time together with a manicure at a nearby salon. Signed CLS waiver required for all participants.
The Big Hoopla with Varsity Girls’ Basketball
Age: Grades 4-8 Number of students: 1-2 students Date: Friday, February 4 or Friday, February 11 (choose from one of the following dates) Location: Belk or SAC gym for a home game Faculty: Coach Eric Smith Description: Sport your new CLS Basketball t-shirt and learn from Latin’s finest. Sweet Reads
Age: Grades 4-8 Number of students: 3-4 students Date: March 5 or 6. April 2 or 3(choose from one of the following dates) Location: Park Road Books Faculty: Ms. Monica Bullock and Ms. Kari Wimbish Description: Four students will spend an afternoon with Ms. Wimbish and Ms. Bullock, avid readers and sixth-grade Humanities teachers, exploring the chockfull shelves of exciting books at Park Road Books. Teachers will make personal recommendations and help students select a $10-15 book of their choice, compliments of Charlotte Latin. They’ll leave with a great list of titles to keep falling into the reading zone for months to come. After making selections, we will walk over to a local restaurant (either Park Road Soda Shop or Shake Shack) for lunch and more fun talk about books and other favorite topics. Parents will provide transportation to and from Park Rd. Shopping Center. Signed CLS waiver required for all participants.
Backstage Tour
Age: Grades 4-8 Number of students: 2-3 students Date: March 2 or 3 evening rehearsal Location: Thies Auditorium Faculty: Ms. Meredith McCarter, Mr. Ryan Maloney, and Ms. Alicia Long Description: Explore the world of acting from behind the curtain. See what goes into making Charlotte Latin’s theater department a true success! Students will get an all-access backstage pass to observe the lighting and stage crews and tour the sound booth and green room during a rehearsal for the Upper School Musical. 2
HAWKSPERIENCES Let’s Escape
Age: Grades 4-6 Number of students: 4-5 students Date: February 4 Location: iLab or Forum Faculty: Ms. Katie Smith and Ms. Jasmine Washington Description: Can you solve the puzzles and crack the code? Students will work together to try and escape in 60 minutes or less! Escape Room theme will be determined based on age and winner input. Pizza party and dessert to follow!
Head of Middle School for the Day
Age: Grades 6-8 Number of students: 1 student Date: to be mutually agreed upon Location: Mr. Ballaban’s office and Middle School Faculty: Mr. Todd Ballaban and Fisher Description: Does your Middle School student think they know everything? Well, give them a chance to call the shots as Head of Middle School for the day. Stepping into Mr. Ballaban’s shoes, the lucky winner will be able to organize activities during study hall, pick the P.E. lesson, choose the Spirit Day dress theme, determine which grade goes to lunch first, and of course…walk Fisher around to students needing some extra smiles! All selections are subject to approval by Mr. Ballaban.
Bend it like Beckham with Mrs. Korkowski
Age: Grades 6-8 Number of students: 2-3 students Date: April 30 11 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Location: Middle School field Faculty: Ms. Laura Korkowski Description: Spend an afternoon working on your soccer skills with Middle School Math teacher and former CSA soccer coach, Ms. Korkowski, then enjoy a fiesta lunch at Tacos 4 Life at the Arboretum. Parents will provide transportation to the Arboretum for lunch. Signed CLS waiver required for all participants.
American Idol with Mr. Frye
Age: Grades 6-12 Number of students: 3-4 Date: February 11 (after school or in the evening) Location: Lower School music room Faculty: Mr. Jeremy Frye Description: Do you dream of being the next Carrie Underwood, Phillip Phillips, or want to jam like Coldplay? Grab your guitar or bass or take a seat at the piano and create your own music! Upper School World Languages teacher, Mr. Frye, will help you and a few friends create tunes that you can play all day!
Tour de Charlotte
Age: Grades 6-12 Number of students: 2-3 students Date: March 26 Location: Charlotte Greenway Faculty: Mr. Stuart Bonner and Ms. Caroline Cuellar Description: Bring your bike and helmet to meet Mr. Bonner and Ms. Cuellar at the starting line. You will cycle along Charlotte’s impressive Greenway and see the sights, later stopping for lunch along the route. Lunch with Mr. Bonner and Ms. Cuellar for up to 3 students at a restaurant on the route will be provided. $150 limit. Please bring your own bike and helmet. Signed CLS waiver and helmets required. HAWKSPERIENCES Dungeons and Dragons
Age: Grades 6-12 Number of students: 4-5 students Date: February 4, 6, 11, 13, 25, 27 or March 6 (choose from one of the following dates) Location: Room 810 Faculty: Mr. Jason Parker Description: Join Upper School French Teacher and RPG Club leader, Mr. Parker, with 4-5 of your friends for an evening of Dungeons and Dragons fun! Choose your Saturday night for pizza and a game of D&D with friends. Beginners or seasoned adventurers are welcome; Mr. Parker will teach the game as you play and will provide everything you need in order to start your adventure in swords and sorcery immediately.
Get Fit for Spring Break
Age: Grades 7-12 Number of students: 4-6 students Date: February 4, 5, 6, 11, 12, 13, 25, 26 or 27 (choose from one of the following dates) Location: CLS Strength and Training Center Faculty: Mr. Michael Johnson Description: Mr. Johnson, Middle School Cross Country Coach, Strength Coach, and Upper School Latin teacher, will meet with you to understand your goals and develop a personalized strength training program for you. Three training sessions are included to get you started and on your way to success!
A Day at the USNWC with Ms. Kilroy
Age: Grades 7-12 Number of students: 6 students Date: May 14; 1-6 p.m. Location: USNWC Faculty: Ms. Katie Kilroy Description: Come spend an afternoon on the whitewater rapids and trails of USNWC with Ms. Kilroy! As a trained whitewater guide, Ms. Kilroy will be able to take you and five friends on a private rafting trip. Dry off on a walk on one of the many trails and enjoy dinner at River’s Edge Restaurant! Parents are responsible for transportation to and from the USNWC. Signed CLS waiver required for each participant. Signed CLS waiver required for all participants.
Kimbap and KPop
Age: Grades 9-12 Number of students: 4-5 Date: to be mutually agreed upon Location: Middle School kitchen Faculty: Ms. Leslie Hylton Description: You and a group of friends will join Upper School Math Teacher, Ms. Hylton, for a “Dynamite” Korean-themed cooking lesson! Learn how to make Kimbap, a traditional Korean snack or quick meal, while hanging with your friends and listening to your favorite KPop tunes! **Please note that this recipe contains several allergy-sensitive ingredients, including shellfish, sesame, and egg. Faculty will handle hot kitchen equipment.

HAWKSPERIENCES Car Mechanics 101
Age: Grades 9-12 Number of students: 6-8 students Date: May 13, 14, 15, 20 or 21(choose from one of the following dates) Location: CLS Parking lot Faculty: Mr. Drew Dayton Description: Calling all young drivers and car enthusiasts. Learn basic roadside maintenance with Mr. Dayton. Learn how to identify and understand what is under the hood, roadside maintenance, (including how to jump a dead battery, change a flat tire, cool an overheating engine, check engine oil level and check tire pressure) and what is important to always have with you in the car.
Create Your Own Charcuterie Board
Age: CLS Parents Number of Parents: 3-5 Date: April 23 and 30 from 10 a.m.-noon Please make plans to attend both sessions. Location: CLS FabLab Faculty: Tom Dubick Description: Curious what goes on in the FabLab? Parents can now roll up their sleeves and create in the FabLab with Tom Dubick, Design and Innovation Chair. Learn to use wood working tools to create your own charcuterie or cutting board. Then, wow guests at your next party with a custom charcuterie board made by you! *Note, there are two sessions included in this experience to complete your board.
Moms Make Night
Age: CLS Moms Number of Moms: 3-4 Date: Choose a total of 3 evenings in the Fall of 2022 from 4-6pm Location: CLS FabLab Description: Participate in an evening of “Moms Make” at the CLS FabLab. Bring three of your fellow CLS girlfriends to design and fabricate in the CLS FabLab for three evenings in the fall of 2022. Learn how to use 3D printers, laser cutters, and wood-working tools with Charlotte Latin Engineering teacher, Mrs. Barbara Morrow. Consult with Mrs Morrow in advance to customize your FabLab experience where the sky is the limit! We will celebrate our designs at the final class. Note: this is a multi night experience.
