De fraaie illustraties stimuleerden de verkoop. De oorlog maakte geen einde aan deze winstgevende handel, wel integendeel, de oorlog werd zelf een belangrijk thema in de muziek. Van ‘la Bataille de Liège’, die op 5 augustus 1914 begon, tot de Wapenstilstand op 11 november 1918 is de oorlog op de voet te volgen in de covers van de vele oorlogspartituren.

Le show business tourne alors à plein régime et des millions de partitions richement illustrées sont vendues. La guerre n’a pas mis fin à ce commerce rentable, au contraire: ce thème est largement exploité par les compositeurs, chanteurs et musiciens. De ‘la Bataille de Liège’, qui commence le 5 août 1914, à l’Armistice du 11 novembre 1918, les couvertures des nombreuses partitions de l’époque permettent de suivre tout le déroulement de ce conflit mondial.
The war through music scores The publishing of sheet music was an international and highly successful trade at the time of the Great War. Showbusiness was at a high point of popularity and millions of scores were sold across Europe. The beautiful cover illustrations stimulated these sales. The war did not put an end to this profitable trade, on the contrary, the war itself became an important theme in music.
