e m o c l we The CB Group is unquestionably at the forefront of the English speaking Caribbean, and perhaps hemispheric agribusinesses. CB group continues to leap boldy into the future with new and exciting technologies and businesses that are inspiring not only to us, but equally to our business partners, customers, regional governments and silently, competitors. The future is unknown but for the CB Group, its trajectory and promise are extraordinary!

Looking over my shoulders into the hazy distance of, so far, twenty rewarding years at the CB Group, I am satisfied and emboldened by the trail of success made possible by the willing contributions of our various teams and the guiding hands, vision and courage of our management. I am convinced, by the air of harmony and purpose in the CB Group, that these and greater sentiments occupy the hearts of my colleagues and will provide a tailwind as we navigate the future in, among many other things, creating and building great brands, expanding our footprints in domestic and foreign markets, championing sustainable agriculture and contributing to regional economies to make “LIVING BETTER” a new habit, philosophy and expectation of CARICOM people. As we point our telescopes to the future and bring sharply into focus unimaginable success for the CB Group, we cannot ignore that our tripods are anchored on the pillars of the Jamaican economy. The economic policies, programs and performance of Jamaica and, indeed CARICOM, factor prominently on the external side of the Group’s regional competitiveness equation. The retooling, upgrading and expansion of the company’s assets, operations and processes – principally, the birth and awaited “christening” of the Nest, tunnel ventilated houses at the Egg Farm, and the increased production capacity at NPM - are happening at a time when the Jamaican economy according to the various economists, seems to have turned a treacherous corner and headed into a pathway paved by the commitments of the multilaterals, sustained fiscal discipline and the sacrifices of Jamaican people, to include all of us here at the CB Group. 1

2 019

The many positives in the economy at this time – including: improvements in public debt, net international reserve, employment, reserve requirements, inflation and interest rates, hard currency supply, economic growth and fiscal oversight - and their likely support for future growth of the CB Group are welcomed. However, the shift of policy by the Central Bank to make low and stable inflation the heartbeat of the economy, could be the starter’s gun for the exchange rate to run - or, perhaps, not? Only hindsight will show, for at this moment, we just don’t know how this policy will go! With our Group and specifically my base – NPM, heavily utilizing inputs traded in foreign currencies, we are sensitive to exchange rates fluctuation but, thankfully, visionary leadership within the CB Group continues to equip us with the technological edge to use our increased efficiencies and product diversity to accelerate export growth, bolster foreign currency earnings and support Jamaica’s economic programs--because, truly, in everything we do, we put Jamaica first. . I greet you well and wish you God’s richest blessings!

Caymanas Pony Club Summer Training Rally On Saturday, June 29th, the Front Runner team joined our future Equestrians at the 4th Annual Summer Training Rally in St Ann. This annual horse education and training program, hosted by Heidi Lalor, Equestrian and Director of the Caymanas Pony Club exposes young riders to unique jumps, ditches, steps, barrels and other horse techniques. The challenging, yet fun training sessions were conducted by Equestrians from Jamaica, the UK, and members from the Jamaica Mounting Troops. While the young riders were taught by the best Equestrians in the region, the Front Runner team was given the opportunity to

select the best performing horse. The shiny coat, and muscular structure of the 2 year old year horse, “Zorro was the obvious champion of the day. After spending the day with horses twice their ages, the Front Runner team presented ribbons and tokens to students who performed well in the respective classes. Front Runner will conclude its Summer Equestrian fun on July 7th at the Final Front Runner Jumping League Competition in St Ann. 6

Domino Double Six Heads Easts Domino fans across the island have been enjoying the energy and vibes of the Nutramix Double Six Competition. After 7 weeks, Nutramix has given farmers the opportunity to kick start their businesses, and communities to come together with good vibes, good food and friendly domino games. The competition has seen the best domino players in the country, and those who mastered the art of matching. Regardless of their mastery in domino, each week, many have journeyed to the tournament hoping for a chance to walk away champions. Our future farmers at the Charlemont High School, who suffered defeat at the Linstead leg of the competition, returned to the May Pen tournament, and won a TON of feed for their school. In the East, the winner team “Black Eagle entered the competition, motivated to the win the tournament for their fallen friend, who they played domino with every Friday evening. The Nutramix team got to share these amazing moments with our customers, all because of the love of Domino. The tournament will conclude in the beautiful parish of Portland, but until then, the Nutramix team continues to enjoy Saturday afternoons with customers who support the brand every day. Visit @FarmNutramix for highlights of the Nutramix Double Six Competition. 7

Recognizes World Health & Safety Day

On Wednesday, May 8th, members of the Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Committee at Group Office, along with Project Manager Daren Allwood, recognized World Health & Safety Day with a full day of training with two (2) sessions on the theme: Ergonomics. Our guest speaker was Danielle Powell, a physiotherapist, who has over 10 years of experience within the field. She stated that throughout her career, she has treated numerous patients with torn tendons (mainly in the hands), as well as back and neck injuries due to poor ergonomic practices in the workplace. In an interactive and descriptive way, she did a phenomenal job explaining the impact of poor ergonomics on one’s health. At the end of each session, we had prizes for each person that participated and answered the questions correctly during the Q&A session. In both the first and second sessions, we had a room filled to capacity of employees learning and enjoying the information being conveyed. We hope that with the newly gained knowledge, persons will continue to be mindful of the way they are positioned at their respective work stations. There will also be reminders in each department in the form of Ergonomics infographic posters to ensure that good Ergonomics is always present in our minds as we work. 8

Benchmark QMS App

Conversation with Client Company Director

Since its launch in January, Benchmark QMS, the quality consultant firm has been very active establishing its presence in the marketplace as a food safety and quality systems expert. Benchmark QMS has recently moved their home-base and currently occupies office space at 80 LMR as the first client of the CBG affiliated co-working company Outpost Republic. However they are hardly ever all there at once as team members can be found making regular trips to Clarendon, St. Catherine and traversing the corporate area as the service existing clients, and seek out new ones. A growing network of freelancers have registered on the Benchmark QMS app, and the company expects to roll out its freelance model in short order. In the spirit of continuous improvement, the CB Group has recently contracted Benchmark QMS to assist in transitioning our food safety management systems from HACCP to a GFSI approved scheme, which will enable us to access even more export markets. Look out for the Benchmark QMS team, coming to a facility near you!

Level Up Forum The Future of Work

The Forum was organised by Kayon Plummer and Adrienne Smith who are Level 3 members, from the CB Group Level UP Program. Present at the forum were members of the Level UP group and specially invited guest, Sharon Black, Port Manager - Newport Wharf and Storage Ltd. The group explored the question “What do you think the future of mankind will be like?” along with the evolution of technology on display to spark thought and discussion as to the impact that it has had on work. Here are highlights from their presentation: What do you think the future of mankind will be like? Welcome to the Stanza Futura! What do you think the future of mankind will be like? That is a question that a lot of us have asked ourselves and continue to ask as we see the pace at which change is now occurring around us. For some of us, “The Jetsons” were living in Utopian Future. We are now living this reality with Smart Phones, Smart Watches, Amazon Alexa, Augmented Reality, Uber, Self-driving cars, Smart Communities, Microwave meals just to name a few. What this tells us is that our only limitation is our imagination. Technology will be the underlying factor that will drive the future of mankind and the team shared some areas that will be hugely impacted in the future. these areas are: 1. Health 2. Work 3. Education 4. Food 5. Climate Change It is important that we be prepared for these changes as best as we can. We are already seeing how many industries are being affected by technology and automation and what will this mean for us? The team looked at 15 jobs that will disappear in the future and 15 jobs that will still be relevant or will be created at that time in the future. 14

Tushane Taylor Presents

Research at International Food Technologist Convention Dehydration due to diarrheal diseases is the second leading cause of death for infants and toddlers. Dehydration can be treated cheaply and simply by Oral Rehydration Solutions (ORS), which is a mixture of sugar, salt and water in concentrations stipulated by the World Health Organization. A few years ago I took my daughter to the Emergency Room at the Bustamante Children’s Hospital where I observed a toddler who was severely dehydrated but refused to drink his ORS. I assumed it had a horrible taste based on his reaction, I then tasted my daughter’s portion and it was insipid. The boy’s parents went and purchased flavored ORS and his reaction was the same. I was curious and began researching and found out that the sugar and salt simultaneously were the source of problem. I then thought this was an opportunity for food science to block the taste of the salt so children will only taste the sugar. Who doesn’t love sugar? Therefore, having your dose of ORS would be a more pleasant experience. In 2016 I went to Louisiana State University to conduct my research, with a team of fellow scientists. During my time, I decided to use gelatin (Jello) as the avenue to rehydrate ailing children because the Jello matrix can trap the salt in its structure; Jello is popular, has nice colours to attract children; and is a product that is not chewed extensively but slurped, therefore less salt would be exposed to the tongue. The objective was to develop a gelatin that was fortified with ORS and pectin (fibre from fruits), then to observe the physical and chemical characteristics, and finally recreate the stomach conditions in the lab to understand the speed at which the product would break down to release the water and electrolytes 16

to relieve dehydration. The research was approved by the International Food Technologist committee and I was asked to do a poster presentation at this year’s edition of their annual convention “IFT19” on June 4th in New Orleans. It was an awesome presentation and an opportunity to showcase to the world the abilities of Jamaicans, other than chopping jelly at the beach and running on the tarmac. Many Professors and Food Technologists were intrigued of this simple solution to a major issue. The research is being further reviewed by the International Journal of Biological Macromolecules, as they intend to do a global publication later this year. Tushane Taylor On behalf of the CB Group, we all congratulate you, Tushane, for your outstanding contribution to furthering advancements in Food Technology. Your invitation to present at the IFT 2019 Convention is a remarkable moment on your journey worth celebrating. You continue to make your CBG family proud. 17

Go Green

Life as we know it has changed. We can no longer afford to be blind to our daily decisions that harm the earth’s limited resources. The survival of the places we love depends on our way of life. And it is up to this generation to change our future, today. Did you know that the Caribbean is the most eco dependent region in the world? Nowhere else are people, economies and lives so heavily reliant on the environment for their livelihoods than right here. Yet the majority of us take it for granted. In fact, we are already in big trouble. Our reefs, beaches, our animal and marine life and our water sources are rapidly being taken away from us year by year. Haven’t you noticed? Even our weather patterns have changed, hurricanes becoming more intense, flash floods becoming more frequent and droughts getting longer and longer. It’s not a coincidence. CB Group has invested in a new company, “We Alter Eco Ltd”. Here, we believe that we can change attitudes, behaviours and lifestyles by making eco-friendly alternatives more accessible. In this day and age, Individuals, businesses and governments alike now have access to information, technology and numerous sustainable solutions that can make a difference. All that’s left to create meaningful, lasting change is the decisions we make each and every day. 20

CB eZine

At Alter Eco, we’re focusing on making it easier for us all to play our part, bringing new products, technologies and solutions in use all over the world to our region and working with businesses, communities and schools so we can all have a positive impact on the environment. We are turning the alternative sustainable lifestyle into a standard way of life. Why? Because we shouldn’t have to choose between convenience and conscience. As we go on this journey, we are guided by four core principals. āā Partner wisely āā Share knowledge āā Be bold āā Stay ahead of the curve

CB eZine

Go Green

Alter Eco’s 1% Pledge One of the key factors in changing habits and behaviours is education. You already know we’re here to make a difference, but we know we can’t do it alone and there are so many others doing great work that need support. So, as our way of giving back, we’ve chosen to pledge 1% of our revenue, each and every year, to non-profit organisations that are helping to protect our environment and build a more sustainable world. We Alter Eco currently supplies a range of biodegradable and compostable products to the food service industry including bagasse food containers (available in a variety of sizes), paper straws (bulk packed, individually wrapped and cocktail size), PLA (a bioplastic made from cornstarch) cutlery and PLA cups. We have several exciting new products and solutions in the pipeline that will have a wider impact on our society, economy and environment. So if you’re interested in taking this journey with us, whether to help inspire, to share, to partner or just to learn, welcome on board.
