welcome It is with mixed emotions that I pen my final ChatBout Welcome and indeed, my final Christmas Message to the family of this great Jamaican company.
There were times over the last twelve years when, overwhelmed with homesickness, I questioned my decision to leave my family, especially my grandchildren, in the United States to return to Jamaica and to the CB Group. But never have I regretted my decision because I realized I have been very fortunate. This country, of which I am now a proud citizen, and the CB Family mean so very much to me. I am honored to have been a part of the Leadership Team which steered our company to some of its greatest milestones to date, while navigating very challenging times in our history – milestones such as our Safe Food certifications, just under 15 million birds placed at Hill Run over the last six years, 8 million at Peninsula Farm between 2016 and 2020 and almost 17 million babies hatched at Peninsula Hatchery from its inception in 2018 to date; acquisition and expansion of the Egg Farm, introduction of Smart Eggs to the Jamaican market and the purchase of hundreds of acres of land, including the acreage where our most ambitious project, to date, will be housed. Eight years of due diligence, flying all over the world and having nearly twenty foreign countries involved have resulted in a truly international project. The Nest will become the center of an amazing transformation with new technologies never before employed in Jamaica or in the wider Caribbean. From air-chill technology to computer imagining and creating potential market expansions to having all our energy needs supplied by the Jamaica Public Service Company and New Fortress Energy, the dream of a new processing plant is very close to becoming a reality. In another few months I will hand over our new 100,000 birds per day world-class processing plant, protein recovery and wastewater treatment facilities. A bold step into the future. Thank you for your belief in me, your support, and your friendship. None of us achieve in isolation and the successes we have enjoyed together have been the result of our cooperation and collaboration. It was truly a pleasure and a privilege to have worked alongside colleagues who understand how to bring the best out in each other. One person who certainly brought the best out in me is Fay Malcolm. She made me greater than I thought I could ever be and was a joy to work with. She is my best “girl” friend and one I will miss ever so greatly. My deepest appreciation to Mrs. Lori-Ann Lyn, the person who made it all possible. She trusted my talents and allowed me to pursue the direction which now paves the way for the passing of the baton. She demanded the very best at all times and my ultimate objective was to live up to expectations and to exceed those expectations whenever possible. Thank you, Lori-Ann!
location for “super food” fruits; now in various stages of growth. When not on the farm I will be with mom and my grandchildren. I will miss you all. You have been an integral part of my journey and my memories of our time together will always be in my heart. Jamaica and the world in general face many challenges. None more so than COVID-19 and all the negative effects that come with it; but it is also time for hope, a time for new opportunities, a time to reinvent ourselves, to pivot and make the most of what is available. The CB Group will begin a new chapter in its history and at its helm will be the next generation of leaders under the direction of Matthew Lyn. Poised for greatness, already we are seeing the vision – empowered people, sustainable industries, and a proud Caribbean. I wish Matthew and the entire Group every success. I may not be the CEO for much longer, but I will always be an ambassador for the CB Group. You will always be a part of my family.
I also extend my gratitude to every member of the CB Family. You are and will always be the company’s greatest assets.
My final message is my wish for you: I wish this life becomes all that you want it to be. Your dreams stay big, your worries stay small… I hope you know somebody loves you… May all your dreams stay big!
I could not let this opportunity pass without paying tribute to two very special persons whom I considered to be more than colleagues. They were friends and brothers in Christ… Mr. B and Mr. Roy. Gone, but never forgotten.
May God bless you and be with you always. Merry Christmas and all the very best for 2021.
With so much to be grateful for - meaningful work, great colleagues, a company on the verge of becoming the premier agricultural company in the Caribbean, it seems a shame to leave at this time. However, at 70 years of age the time is right. I am going to become a farmer again. From as early as age 11, my parents allowed me to have my own commercial layer flocks. This afforded me a great learning experience that proved beneficial throughout my career. Farming is what I know and love and now I have the chance to create a unique farm which will become known as the best

Laughter, friends, family, good food and great cheer. That is what the holidays are about. And though we may be celebrating differently this year, we will still celebrate. What better way than to feast in style, than enjoying the plethora of recipes with mouthwatering CB Chicken, rice n’ gungo peas, candied sweet potatoes and a fresh salad. CB Chicken is ready to meet the demand of the season, ensuring that families across Jamaica can choose from all the special cuts they need to make this festive dinner one to remember! Make room on your table for the BIGGER and BETTER Tasting Chicken. A Festive Tablescape We teamed up with Saint T Florals and Décor for tips on how to jazz up our tables for Christmas. This partnership was a special one for us. Part of our brand mantra is ‘Love Jamaica’ and for us, this means partnering with a purpose. This year has been unbelievably difficult but has also driven home the importance of supporting each other. We hope that persons will be inspired by Saint T’s beautiful design and want to try it at home to celebrate with food the people that matter most.” Founder/Owner of Saint T, Sharon Howell, also shared her thoughts “Since COVID-19 it has been rough because we haven’t had many jobs, really. So, this Festive project that CB Foods has done is a great idea and has really gotten us back into the grove; we were so excited!” Whether enjoying time with family across the table or through video chat, let us enjoy the festive season and spread the message of resilience, hope, and love all around. 3

Helping Ham
In early December, the Caribbean Passion Marketing team visited the Marie Atkins Night Shelter, the Church Street Temporary Shelter and the Open Arms Development Centre on behalf of CB Group to lend a helping ham. The first two non-profit organizations provide shelter and meals for homeless persons, while Open Arms’ fosters the development of vital skills for targeted Jamaican men who are in need of rehabilitation for re-entrance back into society. This year has been a tough one for us globally. And while many of us have been faced with additional challenges, it has been the ‘invisibles’ of our society who have been further marginalized in the face of the pandemic. But it’s those like retired Nurse Grant, founder of Open Arms, Mrs, Farquharson and Titanya who both work for Kingston and St Andrew Municipal Corporation and the Poor Relief, who continue to inspire us to make a difference. To help to spread a bit of festive cheer, we ventured out to share a Taste of the Season with those at the homes. On behalf of the residents, the managers, supervisors and cooks received our Caribbean Passion hams and were most joyful and grateful. In return, they shared their stories of giving back for over 30 years, and gave us belly laughs.

True Community
This holiday, do what you can to help. ƕƕ Visit our website and ADOPT a dog. ƕƕ Donate directly to the local shelters – money, time, old towels, even newspapers. If there is one thing we have learned in 2020, it’s the power of community. We have come together in ways that we never thought possible before - and we are all better for it.
ƕƕ Buy a t-shirt or calendar on the TRUE www. shopqmall.com store.
A couple months ago, we told you about the website we created to help put homeless dogs and dog lovers together. It is truepetmatch.com. Have you seen it yet?
ƕƕ Inspire someone else to help.
ƕƕ Leave your doggie testimonials and messages of love and hope on our platforms.
Since that time, more than half the dogs featured have been adopted but the dog community still needs help. TRUE has dedicated its 2021 calendar to the dogs that desperately need assistance, and we have done so with the help of some unlikely friends. Legitimate breeders from across the island came together to create the calendar, and to lend their voices to the plight of the homeless animals. Each calendar will be for sale with all proceeds going towards no-kill shelters in Jamaica, namely – the Montego Bay Animal Haven and The Animal House. Both these facilities take in dogs from across the island – pay for vet visits, food, general housing and overall care. They also facilitate spay and neuter clinics to help reduce the homeless dog population. They do a lot with limited funding. But one thing they don’t do is give up on animals who people think won’t make it.
What better way to close the year than with a heart-felt message to say you are not alone. We are all in this together. Be sure to follow us on social media at @truepetfoodjm or visit our website truepetfoodjm.com 7

Food Handlers Training
On December 7th and 8th 2020, Newport Mills hosted four sessions of on-site Food Handlers Training conducted by representatives of the Kingston and St. Andrew Public Health Department. A total of 80 persons were in attendance with team members from both NPM and Newport Wharf & Storage. However only 20 persons were present in each of the four sessions to facilitate adequate social distancing. Although animal feed is not consumed by humans, it is still important to practice good food handling techniques to ensure and assure feed safety for animals and indirectly food safety for human consumption (as we consume the animals). Here are some highlights of the salient points covered during the training: āā Low risk and high-risk foods āā Factors influencing bacterial growth āā Sources of contaminants (with emphasis on food handlers as the primary means of possible contaminant, hence the need arises for food handlers to be vigilant and practice proper food handling hygiene and protocols). “Food Safety Starts with You” āā Storage temperatures for foods (with elaboration on the danger zone at 5-62 degrees Celsius) and food storage practices (packaging items and incoming raw materials from suppliers must be thoroughly inspected for insect eggs or other possible contaminants). 8

āā Organizations should establish a pest control management system and a master cleaning schedule, to ensure facilities are clean and pest proof. āā Cleaning vs. sanitization (yes, there is a difference) āā A 9-step procedure for proper hand washing was also delivered to trainee. The information garnered from the training was valuable and quite fitting for the Newport Mills Limited and Newport Wharf and Storage staff as we strive to maintain feed safety and quality at our SQF certified location. Food Safety is Everyone’s Business! 9

Bitter Sweet Moments at Copperwood
Sweet Farewell Saying goodbye is never an easy or fun task. Sadly, we had to say goodbye to one of our hard-working and dedicated team members here at Copperwood Farms, Stephan Smith. For the last three years, Stephan played an integral role in our Maintenance Department, so it was only fitting we gave him a proper send-off despite the restrictions due to COVID-19. Kind words were expressed by all members of staff, however, the highlight of the bunch were those of Mr. Averick Cooke - “it will take two persons to fill the void that will be left by Stephan. We wish Stephan all the very best on his future endeavours! 10

Birthday Celebrations Building on our culture has been a main driving force over the past few years. We were determined to not let COVID hinder our efforts to build stronger bonds between us, and as such, birthday celebrations must be continued. Coupled with the complimentary birthday gifts from Group Office, a tiny celebration is had, and gifts presented. This month, we celebrated the birthdays of Kevon Locke, Annmarie McNeil and Jyuar Wilkinson. Of course, delicious cake was on the menu, which was enjoyed by all.
Secret Pixie We are most definitely feeling the Christmas spirit at Copperwood, with all our decorations hung and strung. And, who doesn’t like a good round of pixie? The Production Team embarked on a journey to enhance the Grow Together culture with a round of Christmas Pixie. Names were drawn at random, and we already had team members excited and showing Christmas love as they’ve treated their pixie to tiny gifts and notes of appreciation. 11

Strengthening Agility & Communication Our 360 review process measures two things: our performance and our alignment with the company’s core values [Think Big, Be Strategic, Be Agile, Be Trusted and Grow Together]. Results of Performance 360 revealed two areas of weakness across the Group, communication and agility. As such, we embarked on a journey to inform and emphasize the importance of being agile and being an effective communicator.
Here are tips on how you can be agile in your daily work environment:
These are only possible if we facilitate a culture of effective communication. Here are tips to improve our communication at the CB Group.
1. Work smarter not harder; do not make your work harder than it needs to be by adding difficult steps.
āā To increase productivity through effective communications strategies, we need to start using the right tools for your business. Fortunately, tools like Office 365, #Slack and Teams can help you boost company communication.
2. Don’t waste time during meetings.
āā Encourage two-way communication. Encourage each other to ask questions or voice their opinions, which also makes persons feel empowered.
3. Take away traditional methods; it is not about how it is always done but doing it effectively. 4. Avoid long written texts and emails, use figures and images 5. Don’t reinvent the wheel, start with standards. 6. Appreciate project resources.
āā Tell people what they are doing right. It’s a good idea to tell people about their positive contributions on a daily basis. āā Give specific, descriptive and timely feedback that is concrete. Give directions to the person on exactly what they are doing well, and what needs to be improved. āā Schedule a compulsory check-in. Organizing a short quick call with a very specific agenda brings in a lot of advantages. āā Organize engaging team building activities.
Now that we have the tips, we can now go on to improving our daily work life experiences and also prepare for our next 360 Performance assessment in January. Look out for further details in your emails. 17

Add the ham, occasionally basting until dark and caramelized. 8. Remove from the oven when it has reached the desired colour and allow it to rest before carving. 9. Serve remaining sauce on the side.

Congratulations Dannah! Dannah Ennis, one of CBG’s Talent Development Coordinators in the People & Culture department, has crossed a major milestone with the recent completion of her Masters of Arts Leadership in Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) and Workforce Development, from the University of the West Indies, Mona. Whilst she had intently fixed her focus on this goal, pursuit of it came with its own set of challenges. She was however determined to see it through to completion. The greatest obstacles she faced were those of time and resources as shared: “I had moved to St. Catherine from Mandeville for school; my daughter started Grade 1 and I started UWI part-time. I was still working in Spalding so traversing to and from daily was beyond hectic. After year 1, I opted to work part-time, which meant my salary was cut. To balance my finances, I had three part time jobs plus I was selling out of the back of my car. In all, I was balancing being an employee, a student and a single mom. I was able to get through the two years however because of my support network. What kept me motivated was the fact that I had no better choice. All I had was the desire to be better personally and professionally.” So what are the next steps? Being strategic with my goals, I study the trends of the economy and industry before I venture to my next educational journey. Having been very busy over the last 2 years balancing so much, my main focus now is being a great mom. Giving back is also one of my priorities, with the recent induction as a member to the Jamaica Chamber International and elected Board Member for the St. Andrew Chapter, plus joining my high school alumni. Any words of encouragement to others? Of course! Focus on your journey. First you would need to analyze and establish your purpose, build quality relationships then work towards achieving your full potential. In doing that, be patient with yourself and don’t compare your growth with others.

Warmest wishes for a safe, festive
