welcome We can all agree, despite our respective visions, that the year 2020 will grace the pages of history not as a year in review but as the year that changed our views and opened our eyes to the closeness of our global community.

Our interdependence and common vulnerabilities have been exposed by the global pandemic that continues to ravage lives and livelihoods at unprecedented rates and scales. Economies have been shaken; companies have fallen; millions of lives have been taken and people sicken; political sentiments have shifted; and the world we knew has changed. Never have we experienced such discord between science and policy actions; between governments and their guiding institutions and between leaderships of the same nations. Such are the circumstances that have, in these times, made uncertainty certain. Notwithstanding the unprecedented challenges of the world, CB Group has, undoubtedly through pain and sacrifices, shown its resilience and demonstrated its commitment to its staff, customers, suppliers and other stakeholders. Amid the crisis that has touched its own foundation, CB Group continues to support the food supply chains of CARICOM through its business support programs, direct contributions and supply of quality inputs to the livestock industries and animal proteins to consumer markets. Already, international organizations have recognized the importance of such undertakings to stave off rising malnutrition and inequalities brought on by the Covid-19 pandemic. CB Group remains true to this cause of contributing to the food security of the region and the nutrition of its citizens. As we look ahead and continue to invest our collective hope in the global scientific community to develop long-term solutions to the Covid-19 disease through vaccination and or treatment, let us continue to recognize the role that individual responsibility plays in curtailing the disease, which has proven to be equally a public health and an economic matter. Wishing you and your family continued safety, good health and God’s blessings! 1

Inspiration for these Specials came from the very customers who support restaurants. Owner of Fromage and Chef Lisa Chin shared that her customers’ favourite cuts are pork chops and pork belly, so she was enthused when Copperwood Pork approached her to create a couple all-new dishes that her customers can be excited about trying, while still digging into their favourite cuts.

“I choose Copperwood each time because I know it meets the restaurant safety guidelines without fail and I trust all the work that Copperwood does to ensure safety is the top priority.” -Lisa CoVID-19 has negatively impacted her business just like many others in the industry. However, she is happy to recover together and welcome her guests to dine-in or take out. We recommend that you #TakeOut and for delivery to your door, check out Fromage’s menu on QuickPlate or 7Krave. Don’t forget to share your feedback on the Copperwood Specials at Fromage by tagging both @CopperwoodPork and @FromageGourmetMarket in your photos and commenting! 3

In most homes around the world, eggs are a favourite food item. Countries with the highest consumption include Japan, Paraguay, China and Mexico where the average individual eats up to 6 eggs a week. Nutramix Farmer Workshops Are Back

6

CB eZine

CB eZine

B RANDS

Keeping socially distant, Nutramix hosted its first livestock workshop since the onset of COVID-19 on July 21st in Gutters, St Elizabeth. The seminar was led by Dr Gabrielle Young and her team of Veterinarians and Livestock Specialists who all met with goat farmers to discuss goat and sheep production as well as feeding management. With masks on and notepads in hand, the farmers were excited to hear the experts present and were eager to answer questions posed. Topics such as artificial insemination, litter management, antibiotics and feed availability were all discussed, and it’s safe to say that the farmers were all engaged. After the educational segment, farmers were given refreshments, a Nutramix gift bag and a certificate of participation. After the workshop ended, the Nutramix team continued to support farmers by providing further advice regarding their individual challenges. Follow Nutramix on Instagram and Facebook @farmnutramix to keep up-to-date on how we continue to support our farmers and recover together. 7

Copperwood Farms Team Treat & Farewells

The Leadership Team at Lucea gave a treat to all the workers for their hard work and dedication to getting the job completed, especially during the pandemic. Despite all the challenges faced by the staff, they were not deterred from showing up for work and giving their tasks 100%. Team members were given Malta, savory soup, tantalizing jerk pork and jerk chicken to rejuvenate and re-energize their body.

The team also bid farewell to George Gooden who went into retirement on July 10. George started working with the company in 1998 and was one of the very first Production workers hired after CB Group acquired the facility. A retirement party was held to celebrate his tenure and the contribution that he made to the company. A bittersweet moment it was as Mr. Gooden was a tremendously dedicated, reliable, dependable and hardworking asset. He could normally be heard echoing to his team, “I a no non-sense man” and “man a big man”!

Three of the first workers at Copperwood Farms

In his speech, Mr. Gooden shared that he had enjoyed his tenure at Lucea, that he has passed on the baton and he is absolutely sure that we will fly the Copperwood Flag high and put into practice all that he had taught us. Thank you for your years of dedication George! 9

Emancipendence Treats

With new norms and social distancing intact, we still wanted to keep the social connection and team vibrancy that Newport Genetics is known to have. So, ‘Emancipendence’ was done a little bit different this year. Our Emancipendence celebration had activities that saw locations across the entire CB Group joining us to celebrate both on-site and online. Songs and photos were shared to have the energy going. That Friday had us “Wearing our Collaz” and many came out in their black, green and gold. Monday gave us a feel-good vibe

12

as we pulled for some favourite Jamaica Festival songs to “Memba the Days”. Tuesday then tested us all on our history knowledge with “Trivia Challenge”. Those who were quick on the buzzer were rewarded with Jamaican sweet treats like Tamarind Balls and Coconut Gizzada, much to their delight. Check out the lucky winners.

Safe Quality Food Certification Upgrade Newport Genetics successfully received certification for its Management System as our operations proudly conform to the requirements of the Safe Quality Food (SQF) Code Edition 8.1, after having achieved a 91 % score in the SQF audit completed earlier this year. The receipt of the new certification is attributed to the dedication and hard work of both our localized and Group QMS teams.

Newport Genetics thanks you! 13

Yadel Girls Village

In recognizing our role in the food industry, not just to our patrons but all Jamaicans, the Jamaica Food and Drink Festival introduced its JFDF Cares initiative in July 2020. Its goal is simple - to provide an amazing gastronomy experience and spread love in our favourite language, food. With COVID, the much anticipated annual staging of the Jamaica Food and Drink Festival will be remodeled and scaled, but our Chefs and Corporate Partners have joined us in helping to support vulnerable communities in these challenging times. The team and its Partners visited the Maxfield Park Children’s Home, the SOS Children’s Village, Yadel Home for Girls and the Denham Town Golden Age Home in July to provide delicious meals, food and beverage and other gift packages courtesy of CB Foods and Festival Sponsors Rainforest, National Bakery, Seprod, Grace, Jamaica Producers and Sagicor. Some of the Chefs who donated their services to prepare hundreds of meals for the staff, children and elderly at these homes include Shea Stewart, Haleem Card, Dawn Mitchell, Kerry Lyn, Jacqui Tyson, Dale Delisser, Christian Sweeney, Rebecca Karram, Theo Smith and Trevanne Donnegal. Together we were able to curate memorable food experiences for those at these home. Mayor of Kingston Senator Delroy H. Williams also supported the initiative by making an appearance at the Denham Town Golden Age Home to personally thank those frontline workers who continue to provide care for those who reside at the home. 14

Vacation Refresher

Your vacation offers the perfect opportunity to step outside and explore our island’s hidden treasures and take that much needed break.

Our New Vacation Policy, which came into effect on July 1, now allows you to take your vacation earlier. Here are the features of the improved benefit: 1. Vacation Days will now be earned monthly, not annually 2. New employees can now take vacation earlier (now after 6 months, no longer 12 months) 3. The waiting period will now be removed, so once you have earned the days, you can use them.

18

CB eZine

F i Di P e o p l e

Here’s a little more on how it will work: āā The total amount of vacation days allotted to each team member annually will continue to vary based on your tenure and your position. āā As your vacation days are earned, your available days will be displayed on BambooHR with decimal points, eg. 2.53 days. We will only grant leave based on the full days. So, if you have 2.53 days available, you can request up to 2 days. āā In order to take time off, you must still formally request the days through BambooHR with enough lead time (30 days standard) āā Like before, Management and P & C approval must be completed in BambooHR before vacation is approved and/or taken. Health safety restrictions have impacted how we do international travel, and for many a vacation has now turned into a Staycation...but it is still one to be enjoyed. Here are some safe and cost friendly ways you can make the most of your island getaway: 1. Play a sport 2. Have games night 3. Take a trip to the beach 4. ‘Home-style’ movie night 5. Backyard Picnic - Get up early, pack breakfast, and have a sunrise breakfast 6. Road Trip 7. A resort on the North Coast – take advantage of the local specials 8. Visit a favourite heritage site Explore your country, re-connect with family in a fun way, and maximize your time away with these cost saving ideas or with those unique ideas that may have just been sparked. 19

Parents During CoVid: Tips for Families with Kids With schools slated to re-open on October 5, many parents are facing anxiety, rightfully so as there are many concerns and questions left unanswered. Plus, there’s the added pressures of juggling work, chores, your children’s schedules all while under a lockdown. Of course you’re overwhelmed! But there are a few steps you can take to keep a sense of structure, and your sanity!)

Join forces with other parents Reach out via phone, email, or social media and exchange tips for keeping kids focused and engaged. You can also organize a virtual activity or study group, which has the added bonus of providing social interaction for your child. Collaborating with other parents may help you feel less isolated as well. Connect with your child’s teacher directly Remember, they’re also getting through this by trial and error. Be honest about what is working and what isn’t. Your child’s teacher has a good understanding of their academic strengths and weaknesses, so they may be able to help you come up with a more individualized learning plan. Create a routine A routine gives kids a sense of normalcy during an otherwise uncertain time. Simply create a general outline that you think you can maintain on most days that still leaves room for flexibility and down-time. If possible, try to designate a workspace for each member of the family. Keep them learning – get creative with lessons There’re assignments that you can assign to keep your kids engaged. Have them do a history assignment on particular topic and provide them with the resources to research, or create a simple science experiment for example. Consider your child’s strengths. If they love to draw and write, now is a good time to set them free for an arts and crafts project. Set goals and celebrate their completion Since so much has been stripped from our everyday lives, having something to look forward to can help children stay motivated. Setting up small rewards, like watching an episode of their favourite TV show can help them tackle that assignment.
