Welcome As I look at the many notable achievements we’ve had in recent years, I’ve never been more proud of our wonderful group of companies. I, and I’m sure many other team members, wear our logoed shirts with a wonderful sense of pride. I’ve been privileged to witness the transition over the years from ordinary to, dare I say it, great, and our customers, old and new, recognize us for quality, safe food. We are slowly becoming a company of firsts. Our poultry processing facility was the first such facility to achieve HACCP and ISO certification in Jamaica and all of our facilities island-wide are now similarly certified. We can now truly say we are certified every step of the way by virtue of the momentous achievement of the first batch of our growers achieving this prestigious honour. Additionally, we will be the proud owners of the first and largest, solid sided poultry houses in Jamaica, each housing some 37,000 birds, on the largest poultry farm in the island. Imagination Farms has been generating quite a bit of interest and recently hosted IMF representatives and government ministers, further reinforcing the CB Group’s commitment to helping to steer Jamaica’s development and economic growth. The message here is simple: there are no boundaries to what may be achieved through innovation, persistence and hard work. The CBG family is doing just that and we are reaping the rewards through increased market share. A big thank you to everyone for your cooperation as we move this great company of ours to even greater heights. The coming years are full of promise and with it, more hard work, but we’ve been there before and we will do it again, with even more success.

Meet Ralston Ramsahai He’s Our Champion Grower for 2013-2014. Nestled away in Shenton, Bogwalk you’ll find Mr. Ramsahai busily attending to the chickens on his farm. A hardworking, soft spoken individual, Ralston’s shyness disappears as he begins sharing his passion for farming. His face beams with pride, as he welcomes our team to his Champion farm. Farming is second nature to Ralston: he talks the talk and walks the walk, taking extra care and effort to rear his chickens. He now boasts the title “Champion Grower”; his first win, but as he assures us, certainly not his last. How many years have you been in farming? 12 years. But My Grandfather always raised chickens, and I helped him from I was a young boy. I grew up around it so farming is in my blood. I’m attached to it- it’s what I know. I am very homely. I don’t really go anywhere, I love it out here on my farm. What’s it like being a CB Grower? It’s really good and things continue to get better- how we grow, how the Company processes the chicken. The quality of the baby chicks I get and the feed are also very good and at a very high standard. My TFO is also very good. (Mr. Allan Johnson, Champion TFO) We agree to disagree when we have to, because we both want the same result: a healthy flock with good feed conversion and weight.

There are four houses on your property, any room for expansion? This property can’t accommodate any more houses, but I have land nearby, so the plan is to put automated houses there. I’ve already begun to look into it. My only fear is I live on my farm now, and I can’t be two places at one time. It is very important to be present on your farm to manage the day to day operations. But I am definitely looking to expand. I want to go the distance, and I won’t be Champion Grower just one time.

CB Growers’ Awards Every year we acknowledge the achievements of our Growers based on key performance indicators such as feed conversion, mortality and cost management per flock. This year, our Grower Awards were hosted by Owen “Blacka” Ellis, who had the room rumbling in laughter with his hilarious jokes, while entertainment was provided by Dance Theatre Xpressions. Perhaps our best Awards ceremony to date, a great time was certainly had by all. We’re already eagerly anticipating next year, which promises to be even better! Copperwood Pork at Clipper Round the World Event Last month, Copperwood teamed up with the Jamaica Tourist Board to host crew members from the “Clipper Round the World”; the biggest yacht race on Earth! As a selected host country, Jamaica surely didn’t disappoint. Visitors from as far as South Africa were feted to a fun filled beach party with some of Jamaica’s best- including our very own Copperwood Jerk Pork! Amidst all the good vibes, music and rum, our Copperwood jerk pork was a stand out. Check out scenes from the event.

Something old, something new and a little bit of

No, Newport Mills did not get a fleet of new trucks. But it sure does look that way! All of our Nutramix trucks have been updated with our new logo. The familiar logo reminds all road users that there is only one feed company that can boast about their international certification and recognition. And, talking about recognition . . . you can’t miss the NUTRAMIX trucks from miles away with its distinctive, bold colour-scheme. Greet the driver the next time you see one of our trucks; he’s probably bringing feed to one of our chicken, layer or pig farms!

at 1st Annual Beer Festival Our good friends at Red Stripe hosted their first annual Beer festival, and of course- badness was the order of the day. Bad Dawg hit the sands of Barbican Beach to join in the celebrations. With our host “Dutty Berry”, patrons feasted on the bigga betta badda dawg, and tried their hands at exciting beer pong games. Eat Smart, Live Smart

As part of our on-going commitment to health & wellness, Smart Eggs had adopted the message “Eat Smart, Live Smart” which will be the focus of our campaign. We’ve partnered with a number of popular various fitness fanatics that also promote healthy lifestyles. SMART EGGS IS REPRESENTING: - We Got The Runs and TrueForm Fitness participated in Tru-Juice’s “Run for your Cause” 5K Run/Walk & 20Km cycle on June 1st at the Tru-Juice Orchards in Bog Walk. - Tuff Warrior Challenge is an obstacle course style fitness challenge on Sunday, June 22nd at Caymanas Park. Organizers have created a 5 week preparation course to get ready for the big day. The instructors of the series have been dubbed “Smart Eggs Trainers” and give all the participants the push they need to go hard! What’s great is that the series will also be documented and aired on Flow TV so look out!

Junior Achievement Jamaica—Champions for Youth Banquet Junior Achievement Jamaica hosted their 2nd annual Champions for Youth Banquet to say thank you to the many teachers and organizations that have shown a consistent commitment in preparing youth to be global leaders. The top teachers from each parish were recognized, as well as a number of Companies in the private and public sector that have helped the work of JAJ through donations and volunteerism.

The CBG Labour Day project was a great success and we’d like to thank all participants on the day and behind the scenes for their overwhelming support for such a worthy cause. Staff, family and friends came out to support our Labour Day project at the Bishop DS Thomas Early Childhood Development Centre. There’s still a tremendous amount of work to be done, but we were able to build a new gate, paint and clean the front entrance and provide a ceiling for a classroom.

Special shout out to Mr. Robert Mason, who got a huge team from the Bedward Gardens community to help out! See our CB team at work.

I get great satisfaction from representing the Company and knowing that the interaction with the Growers allows me to help them in the use of modern technology to efficiently produce their birds. It also improves the profitability of the farmer and the Company overall.

1. How long have you been a member of the CB Group? I’ve been employed to the CB Group for approximately 17 years

2. What section of the group are you in and what is your role? I’m in the field operations - poultry division as Technical Field Officer.

3. What is the best part about working at CB? I get great satisfaction from representing the Company and knowing that the interaction with the Growers allows me to help them in the use of modern technology to efficiently produce their birds. It also improves the profitability of the farmer and the Company overall.

4. Describe a typical day for you from the moment you arrive at work till when you leave. I make routine visits to various contract farms in the area that I manage. I do detail assessments of the flocks at various stages of development and reinforce the international standards that our company has set in its field operations by achieving ISO 9001: 2008 - HACCP - GMP International Certification. I also evaluate the physical health status, comfort level, nutritional health status, environment and the general behaviour of the birds and how they respond to the environment, and give instructions and advice as necessary.

5. What gets you through a hectic work day? I try to maintain a positive attitude so that I can manage any challenge that arises. But I will pray from time to time, listen to soothing music or positive radio talk shows.

6. What is your favourite CB product? I love and enjoy all of CB’s products. I get a real sense of personal satisfaction knowing that I contributed to creating and developing our high quality chicken though!

7. If you could be in another section of the group for a day, where would you go and why? I’d want to be in the hatchery or the processing plant. I’m always fascinated by the processes at these locations.

8. What has been your most embarassing moment at work? In about 2003, I was at a farmer’s meeting in Versalies Hotel. I got up from my seat to go outside and didn’t see the glass window. Well, I collided with the window- full force. Not only embarrassing, but painful moment as well.

9. Name your favourite chicken/pork dish. My favourite chicken dish is fricassee in tossed salad with gungo peas and rice. My favourite pork dish is jerk pork with festival.

Caribbean Passion Bacon Baskets THIS IS A FUN WAY TO GET KIDS INVOLVED IN THE KITCHEN. ASK THEM TO ASSEMBLE THE BACON OR TEACH THEM TO CRACK AN EGG. IT’S SUPER EASY AND WHO DOESN’T LOVE EATING ART FOR BREAKFAST? PREP TIME 5 minutes COOK TIME: 15 minutes SERVINGS: 2 baskets

WHAT YOU’LL NEED • 8 slices Caribbean Passion bacon • 2 Eggs • Salt and pepper to taste

Because everything tastes better with bacon!

HOW TO MAKE IT 1. Preheat oven to 500F and adjust oven rack to the middle of the oven. 2. Place 4 slices of bacon crosswise in a muffin tin and place in oven for 5 minutes to render fat 3. Whip eggs and add salt and pepper to taste and pour into each bacon pocket 4. Bake for another 10 minutes. Enjoy!

Copperwood Pork Easy Char Sui Pork THIS IS THE LOVELY, STICKY, RED-COATED PORK YOU SEE IN CHINESE RESTAURANTS – IT SMELLS DIVINE AS IT’S COOKING AND THE RECIPE IS VERY EASY. CHAR SIU SAUCE IS MADE FROM HOISIN, RICE WINE, HONEY AND SUGAR. PREP TIME 10 minutes COOK TIME: 40 minutes SERVINGS: 2-4

HOW TO MAKE IT

WHAT YOU’LL NEED • 1/3 cup char siu sauce • 2 sprigs escallion, chopped • 1 tsp five-spice powder • 1 tbsp oil • 1 tray pack Copperwood Pork loin chops • 1 tbsp honey

2. Preheat the oven to 200°C. Line the base of a baking dish with baking paper.

1. Combine the char siu sauce, escallion, five-spice powder and oil in a large bowl. Add the pork fillets and marinate for at least 30 minutes or for up to 2 hours.

3. Remove the pork fillets from the marinade and lay in the dish. 4. Cook for about 40 minutes, basting occasionally and turning over halfway through the cooking time, until cooked through. 5. Remove from the oven and brush with the honey while still warm. Cover with foil and rest for 5 minutes before slicing. Marinating time 30 minutes

The IMF & Jamaica There’s a lot of buzz about the IMF here in Jamaica but do you know what the IMF is? The International Monetary Fund (IMF) is an organization of 188 countries, which works to promote global economic cooperation, secure financial stability, facilitate international trade, promote high employment and sustainable economic growth, and reduce poverty around the world. So in simple terms, the IMF is an organization that helps countries that have lots of debt and struggling economies to get on the road to success. What does the IMF do? The IMF’s primary purpose is to ensure the stability of the international monetary system—the system of exchange rates and international payments that enables countries (and their citizens) to transact with each other. The Fund’s mandate was updated in 2012 to include all macroeconomic and financial sector issues that bear on global stability. So what’s the IMF doing in Jamaica?

Jamaica entered into a four-year Extended Fund Facility (EFF) Agreement with the IMF in May 2013. Over the four-year period Jamaica will receive payouts totaling approximately US$932.3 million as balance of payment support. The country has successfully passed three of the quarterly reviews and is now awaiting the official approval from the IMF executive Board for the recently completed fourth review.

7 Easy Tips to Save Money! As the Jamaican dollar continues to slide and prices climb, it’s important that we are mindful of our spending habits. We need to be as thrifty as possible. Here are seven ways to help you ‘stretch’ your pay cheque and save a few dollars.

1. Create a budget. Make a note of your monthly income, including your steady salary and any monies you get from remittances, additional jobs, etc. Secondly, make a list of all your monthly expenses and check to ensure that your income can support them. Creating a budget helps you keep track of where your money goes each month, which can help you make the necessary cuts and adjustments to save. 2. Live within your means. When examining your budget, it might be helpful to note what your needs are versus your wants. Focus on the items in your ‘needs’ column first and eliminate or reduce spending on the ‘wants.’ You may need to limit activities such as eating out, shopping, going to the movies and other forms of entertainment or find more economical alternatives. While recreation is important, ensure that your bills are paid before you decide to indulge. 3. Conserve to save. Bills often take up the most of your salary. While some of them (such as loan payments) may not be flexible, you can reduce the amount of money you pay for items such as electricity and water by practicing simple conservation methods. Even if you are only able to save a few hundred dollars per month, it all adds up in the end. 4. Become a bargain hunter. It is important to shop around for the best deals before you part with your hard-earned money: Buy in bulk. If you live alone or do not need such large quantities, team up with a friend to share the items and split the costs. You should also buy items on sale and take advantage of specials at wholesales and supermarkets. Additionally, try substituting expensive items with cheaper ones. 5. Pay on time. Avoiding late fees on your bill payments can save you several hundred dollars per month. Also, being able to pay your bills online or using a payment service is definitely convenient, but these transactions often attract fees. Evaluate all the payment options available and find the most economical one for you. 6. Use your cards wisely. Don’t make too many trips to the ATM as most banks charge a fee for each transaction. Instead, withdraw a sufficient amount and take from that what you need on a daily basis. Also, avoid making rash credit card purchases. Try leaving your cards at home as much as possible to resist the temptation. 7. Start saving. It is really important to have money put away in case of an emergency situation, or if you lose your job. Ensure that you put aside money for savings in your monthly budget and whenever you end up with a few extra dollars, add them to your ‘piggy bank.’
