CB Foods takes over
E PO JAMAICA Thousands flocked to the National Arena for EXPO Jamaica, and this year, “The Village,” hosted by CB Foods, was certainly the talk of the 4 day event. Patrons were invited to experience our take on a Food Court, as we transformed the space into a cool, inviting mini-food festival, with a variety of mouth-watering food offerings from our #bestbrands. Our 2015 CB PAN X winner, Camita Munroe served her winning recipe alongside Rodney “Ruddy” Bent, our PAN Master from Red Hills Road. But the Village was not complete without Copperwood’s Road Hog, and the Golden Wheels serving up badness’ with Bad Dawg Sausages. But the stand out was definitely Caribbean Passion, reminding us how easy it is to create meals with our sausages. The Drink Real Milk team was also out in full force, with cool cocktails and mocktails. It’s for certain, milk does a body good! No tummy was left empty, and as the sun set on the weekend, we had

a surprise in store for our guests, as we kicked off our karaoke jam sessions. And, if you were lucky enough on Saturday night, you would have caught our very own Kereen “Beyonce” Cole killing the Destiny’s Child’s track! It was a great opportunity to interact with so many of our CBG family members, customers and future customers. We can’t wait to do it again. Thanks to everyone who volunteered and supported the Village. And a special Big up to the Bad Dawg team to who beat yet another sales record!
See you at EXPO Jamaica 2018!

Meet our Champion Farmer
Osbourne Bromley For this first generation farmer, family is everything. The family home is actually located on the farm property, and his living room is flooded with pictures of his seven children, some of whom work side by side with him every day. But farming wasn’t always Osbourne’s passion. From 1987 to 1992, he was in the supermarket business, but this Nutramix Champion’s natural love

of animals and the land that led him into agriculture, and the business he’s in today.
supplying the Copperwod Pork Brand and has 36,000 chickens on an 8.75 acre property.
Looking back on his path, hard work has been the real ticket for Osbourne; things were never easy, and he started out with just one pig close by his home in St. Elizabeth. Eventually he acquired 50 chickens and with years of dedication, he’s now proud to have over 2,000 pigs,
With his sons by his side and a dedicated team, Mr Bromley thrives. We hope you’ll share the story of Osbourne with your friends and family, maybe you could inspire someone (even yourself!) to be a Champion Farmer.

A Day In The Life Of…
Veron Miller Burton Senior Treasury Officer
cb big ups — a day in the life of… veron miller burton
12
1. How long have you been a member of the CB Group? Wow, man I can hardly remember... it’s from June 2006, that’s all of 10 years!
2. So far, what’s the best part about working here? My co-workers are all a joy to be around, especially the persons in my department. I always look forward to coming to work even though it gets hectic sometimes. And the fact that I have always wanted to work in a conglomerate and here I am. Whenever I say to someone that I work for CB Group, this sense of pride, happiness and patriotism etches in the wall of my heart.
3. Describe what a typical work day is like for you. My mornings always start with a rapport with my superior about what happened yesterday and what the plan is for today. Then I check emails and look out for the important ones that require immediate attention. Most of my morning sessions include liaising with the financial institutions to either negotiate rates for investment, foreign exchange or loans. This usually takes me up to 12:30 – 1pm. Between 1 and 2, I get some time to return calls and answer emails while keeping track of our electronic transactions approval after which, lunch is usually somewhere between 2:30 and 3:30pm. After that it is back to the work fields with either meetings or getting some documentation for our outside institutions or following up with overseas suppliers as it relates to payments confirmation. On a Thursday afternoon, things are a little different as that is the time that payments (cheques/wires) are authorised for payment by the department and this usually lasts until about 8pm
4. What gets you through a hectic work day? I take many deep breaths, breathe lots of ‘Lord help me please,’ and I’ve developed the habit of saying I will deal with you as soon as I can.
5. Which product is your favourite at CB? Chippenham Eggs and Caribbean Passion chicken ham.
6. If you could switch departments for a day, where would you go and why? Newport Mills (customer service & production). I’m always interested in knowing the process by which all the raw materials are converted into animal feed. Also, I love working with people so dealing with the people who do not work with CB would be a joy!
7. Any embarrassing moments at work? Yes. There was this time when I was working in accounts and I wrote a cheque and my co-worker was saying how beautiful and legible my handwriting is. Cloud 9 couldn’t hold me. Within a second, one of our directors came to accounts and said ‘who wrote this cheque’, man I was beaming. I said I wrote it. The next comment I heard was, ‘where are the commas? You missed the commas” - in front of everybody. I felt soooooo bad.
8. Any favourite chicken, pork or egg dishes? I loooove me some fried green plantains and eggs. Also stew peas with chicken ham. cb big ups — a day in the life of… veron miller burton

Creating Bonds
in Our Communities 14
Arnold Road
80 of our CBG Family members came out to support this important cause at Arnold Road in April. Though we only had 47 cleared to donate, we still managed to save 141 lives! Remember one donation can save 3 lives so special thanks to those who gave the most valuable gift of all: life. Our CBG Family also benefitted from free blood pressure, glucose and weight checks to ensure we are all healthy. Thanks to our CB Pan Men and Bad Dawg team for keeping everyone happy with the yummy food! Look out for our next drive soon.

Copperwood Soy & Ginger Marinated Pork Chops Prep Time: 15 minutes • Total Time: 1 hour • Serves: 4 Ingredients: • ¼ cup plus 2 tablespoons low-sodium soy sauce • ¼ cup vegetable oil • 3 tablespoons fresh ginger, finely grated • 3 tablespoons light-brown sugar • 1 scallion, finely chopped • ground black pepper • 4 bone-in Copperwood pork chops (8 ounces each; ¾ inch thick) • Garnish: 1 escallion, thinly sliced
Method: 1. Whisk together soy sauce, 3 tablespoons oil, the ginger, sugar, chopped escallion, and ½ teaspoon pepper. 2. Arrange pork chops in a 9-by-13-inch nonreactive baking dish. Reserve 3 tablespoons marinade, and pour remainder over pork chops. Marinate, covered with plastic wrap, flipping chops halfway through, for 45 minutes. 3. Heat remaining tablespoon oil in large skillet over medium-high heat. Remove pork chops from marinade, and sear for 3 ½ to 4 minutes. Reduce heat to medium. Flip chops, and sear until just cooked through, 3Ë™ to 4 minutes more. Transfer chops to a board or platter. Let rest for 5 minutes. 4. Add reserved 3 tablespoons marinade to skillet. Simmer over medium heat until thickened, about 30 seconds. Spoon sauce over chops. 5. Garnish with thinly sliced escallion and enjoy. Pro Tip: A brief stint in the refrigerator with the soy-andginger marinade gives the pork flavor while tenderizing the meat.

CB Chicken wrapped in Caribbean Passion bacon (with Broccoli Alfredo Sauce)
Succulent CB Chicken breasts, wrapped in smoky Caribbean Passion bacon, and smothered in a creamy broccoli alfredo sauce – a delicious, low carb and easy meal that’s bursting with flavour. Serves 4 Ingredients: • 4 strips Caribbean Passion bacon • 4 CB Chicken breasts • 1 tablespoon olive oil • salt & freshly ground black pepper • 8 toothpicks Broccoli Alfredo Sauce • 1 tablespoon olive oil • 4 garlic cloves, crushed • ¾ cup white wine • 1½ cups cream • ½ cup chicken broth • ½ teaspoon ground nutmeg • pinch salt & freshly ground black pepper • 1 lb (450g) broccoli florets, chopped • 1½ cups finely grated fresh parmesan cheese • 1/3 cup escallion, thinly sliced • Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C)
Source: www.thefreshaussie.com
Method: 1. Wrap a strip of bacon around each piece of chicken, starting & ending on the underside of the bacon & securing with toothpicks; stretch bacon strips a little, if necessary, to make them go around the chicken. 2. Turn chicken over. Place pan in oven & cook for 15 minutes or until cooked thoroughly but still tender. 4. Remove toothpicks from chicken. Serve broccoli alfredo sauce over chicken. To make the sauce: 1. While chicken is cooking, heat oil in a large frying pan on mediumlow heat. Add garlic, cook for 2 minutes or until softened & fragrant. 2. Add wine & simmer until reduced by half. Increase heat to medium. Add cream, broth, nutmeg, salt & pepper. Simmer, stirring occasionally for 5 minutes. 3. Stir in broccoli. Cook, stirring occasionally, for 5 to 7 minutes or until broccoli is tender & sauce is thickened. 4. Stir in parmesan cheese & green onion, leaving a little of both for garnish

Monday May 23 is Labour Day!
Don’t forget to mark your calendar and listen out for details of our 2016 CBG Labour Day Project! If you can’t participate in this year’s project, be sure to contribute in an important way around your community and even your own home. This year especially, let us remember that as a country we are working to reduce the possible impact of Mosquito-borne Diseases such as Zika and Chikungunya. Remember, when you help to protect against mosquitoes, the life you save could be a family member’s or your own.

The History of
Labour Day
did you know — the history of labour day
•
In 1961, Jamaican Chief Minister Norman Washington Manley proposed the replacement of Empire Day with Labour Day, a celebration in commemoration of May 23, 1938, when Alexander Bustamante led a labour rebellion leading to Jamaican Independence.
•
Before 1961, May 24 was celebrated in Jamaica as Empire Day in honour of the birthday of Queen Victoria and her emancipation of slaves in Jamaica. In 1961, Jamaican Chief Minister Norman Washington Manley proposed the replacement of Empire Day with Labour Day, a celebration in commemoration of May 23, 1938, when Alexander Bustamante led a labour rebellion leading to Jamaican Independence. The 'labour' here has nothing to do with a political party; instead it speaks of the hard work and those who worked to the point of personal sacrifices to see the nation achieve Independence, growth and development.
•
Until May 23, 1971, Jamaican Prime Minister Michael Manley promoted Labour Day as a showcase for the importance of labour to the development of Jamaica, and a day of voluntary community participation to beneficial projects. Since then, Labour Day has been not only a public holiday but also a day of mass community involvement around the country.

Maternity Leave & You
A healthy and happy return to work for Mommy
Adjusting to life after having a baby isn’t easy. On top of learning how to take care of this tiny human, you also have to learn to juggle the responsibilities you had before becoming a mother for the first, second or third time. By law maternity leave is 2 months with pay and 1 one month without. During this time, the new working mommy is allowed to spend this allotted break to bond with her new family, make arrangements for childcare, and (most importantly) rest. tid bits — maternity leave
Tips for a smooth and comfortable return to work: 1. Plan Ahead Be sure to arrange a meeting with your supervisor to determine how your workload will be managed while you are away. Discuss the company’s goals and plans within the next couple of months to make sure you can do all you can before you go on leave. Be certain to get a clear understanding of exactly how you will transition when you are back.
3. Thank Your Colleagues To support you while you’ve on leave will take a team effort, and you want to make sure everyone is on the same page. Thank everyone for their support, and let them know you’re looking forward to rejoining the team in no time. Whether vacation leave or maternity leave, letting your team know you’re grateful for their assistance while you were out on is always a good idea.
2. Check In We’re so happy you’ve added to your family! You may be tempted to check in and that’s okay every once in a while but these are important moments in life you won’t get back. Cherish them, treasure them. Bond with baby and the family; CB is a family company that wants you to have healthy family lives as well. It’s all about balance.
4. Don’t feel guilty After your return from maternity leave, don’t feel guilty regarding your workload, undervalued, or that your team has managed to do their jobs without you. Politely insert yourself where you feel you are needed, and slowly take back your projects and assignments, scheduling meetings with your supervisor if necessary to get the whole team on the same page.
