Hey CBG
Family
Anyone recognize that guy? No, not me! The other guy? I’ll give you a clue - he’s a former 100m Jamaican sprinter, but who never ran for Jamaica. Got it? That’s Britain’s Linford Christie, Olympic Gold Medal Winner from the 1992 Barcelona Olympics. I got that picture in the Olympic Stadium in Rio as my family and I watched Usain Bolt, Elaine Thompson and the rest of the Jamaican athletes put on a show for the world to see. Once again, our athletes have made us forever proud! To watch an entire stadium “oooh and aaah” at Bolt’s every move was something to witness and of course, to be there for the races, it was amazing. I feel so lucky to have been there to witness history, as the “Man from Trelawny” showed the world why he’s a living legend. After this Olympics, he will undoubtedly go down in history not only as the greatest sprinter of all time, but one of the greatest athletes ever, across all sports.
you’re from, what your circumstances may be, how small the chances, no matter what others may say about you, with hard work, dedication, proper training and a great support team you can be successful. So I encourage you to keep dreaming, keep working hard and to always keep your eyes on the prize. I’d also like to encourage you all to participate in some of the many events we have coming up: •
• •
Nutramix Double Six Domino Championship, almost every weekend, island wide at various venues up until Saturday, November 12th PAN – Regional 2 in Portland on Saturday, September 24 Jamaica Food and Drink Festival, various locations in Kingston from Wednesday, October 26 – Sunday, October 30 PAN Grand Final, Half Way Tree, Kingston, Sunday, October 30 CBG UWI 5K, UWI Mona Campus, Kingston, Sunday, November 13 Restaurant Week, visit participating restaurants and check out our Caribbean Passion dishes CBG Christmas Party in early December (details TBD)
Equally as impressive as our athletes, however, was the reception we got every single night as we walked around the stadium and Brazil in general wearing our Jamaican colours and waving our green, black and gold flags. For a week, we were “celebrities”, as strangers from all across the world would ask to take pictures with us, hug us, cheer us and smile with us simply because we represented Jamaica. We truly live in a special place.
• •
In all of this, I couldn’t help but think of the moral of this story. How does a nation so small consistently conquer the world? I’ve settled on this: that no matter where
Cheers,
welcome

Lots happening, lots coming up and lots to be proud of. Hope to see you there!

Around Arnold Road:
Second Processing
‘Arnold Road’ or ‘The Plant’ as we call it is the backbone of our flagship CB Chicken brand - this is where the magic happens. Here the fruits of the Live Production department’s labour become the CB Chicken branded products our consumers know, love, and trust to feed their families. Inside Arnold Road, you’ll find ‘2nd Processing’ a team that works to cut, parcel and package CB Chicken after the chickens are taken through ‘1st Processing’ which includes cleaning and de-feathering. 2nd Processing preps all our chicken products, whether chilled or frozen; whole birds or tray packs, and hands them over to Distribution – which gets them safely into the hands of our valued customers. Without the hard work of the ladies and gentlemen in these teams, there simply wouldn’t be a CB, and we can’t thank them enough for their hard work every day. Chat Bout had a chat with two of 2nd Processing’s dedicated team members about their work:

Andre Reid Production Supervisor How long have you been in your current role at CB? 5 years – I started as a Production Supervisor here at Arnold Road. What’s the most challenging part of your day in 2nd processing? The uncertainty of the day’s production finishing time. We deal with live birds, so we can’t dictate the time that we finish. Also we have a different amount of birds to package on a daily basis, there is not one set production figure every day. What gets you through a challenging day? Help from my fellow team members. Support in a task and the amount of cohesiveness that we have. What’s your favourite CB Foods product? Copperwood Pork. Someone else has to prepare it though– I can’t manage that. But I love BBQ Pork.
our community — around the plant: second processing
Dwayne Gordon-White Production Supervisor How long have you been with Team CBG and what’s your role? Approximately 11 years, I started as a QA Attendant and have been Production Supervisor for 5 years now. What’s your favourite part of working with CB? Interacting with the production staff here at Arnold Road. There’s never a dull day at Caribbean Broilers – they always do something to put a smile on your face. If you could work in any other department in the CB Group, where would it be? Field Operations – for the outdoors experience which would be very different from my current role where all time is spent in the production facility. Tell us one thing about working at Arnold Road the rest of CBG doesn’t know Arnold road is a fun filled and unpredictable environment; it is stress and fun bundled all together. There are days when we have breakdowns and days when we run smoothly, but no matter what kind of day we’re having, the staff get through it and make it fun.

Every Mickle Makes a Muckle!
Saving $ on electricity around the home & office
Back to school is the perfect time to sharpen up your money saving habits. Those school time costs will be adding up, so don’t give away your hard earned cash to the utility company! Around the Home
Try to keep weekly ironing of clothes to less than two hours. If you have to stop ironing to do something else, unplug the iron. Switch to LED (Light Emitting Diode) bulbs – they are more efficient than fluorescent bulbs, and far more efficient that incandescent bulbs – they last longer too, years longer! LED bulbs used to be very expensive, but in recent years the price has tumbled – it’s a great time to make the switch! They may cost more to buy, but will save you money in the long run. If you own a fan reduce the number of hours of use and ensure to turn them off when not needed. The same goes for the AC – if you do use one, try setting it on a timer to cool the room before bed, and then turning it off before you fall asleep. Plug electronics into a power strip and turn off the strip when leaving home or when the equipment isn’t being used. Place refrigerator in a cool spot, away from heat sources. Do not open the fridge more often than necessary, or leave the door open. If you can, consider changing to an inverter fridge – they burn far less electricity!
At The Office We can all do our part to help CBG be more efficient, and successful. Here’s how! If you’re heading to a meeting or lunch, switch off the office lights and AC! Switch off office equipment when not in use and at the end of the day Flick off the off lights when leaving rest rooms Get your team involved–If you see waste, say something!

Hobby Corner Walter Plummer’s Kites 1.
What department are you in with CBG, and what’s your role? I’m in IT, and work as the Help Desk Co-oordinator. Call me “Mr Troubleshoot”. 2. What is your special hobby? I fly sport kites. The kites used are called “Deltas” and “Revolution”. Delta’s are two-lines so you use your left and right hand, and the revolution kites are ‘quad-lines’. The four-lines allow you to mimic the control of a plane with its flaps and that way you can do great aerobatic stunts. It’s pretty cool – nothing like the one string kites we know. I also host workshops, and make presentations at High Schools to encourage young people to get active in the sport. 3. How did you get started, and when? I was involved in hosting a Radio Control (RC) and sport Kite event – “Vroom Jamaica” a few years ago. I invited the sport kiting community to attend the event and they offered to teach me, the rest was history. 4.
Tell us more about it – why do you find it special? It’s relaxing, and it brings people together – the interaction when you’re flying. I recently held a 3 day stunt kite workshop on July 21-23 2016 at Plantation Cove, Richmond St Ann.
around the brand in 30 days — bad dawg
This was with Skyflyjamaica, and Wind Jammers in partnership with Skyburner kites which is based in Detroit Michigan USA. When I did the workshop, there were a lot of families that didn’t know each other before but by the end of the day, they left as friends. It’s really very social – and of course fun. At the workshop, there were students from three high schools: Manchester High School, Westwood and Wolmer’s Boys School. We also had students from the prep school level and a few adults participating. Debbie Pasmore and Kenisha Prehay, fellow CBG Family from our St. Ann’s Bay Agency were also there, as their sons participated in the workshop. We learned about the various types of kites and got hands on flying lessons. 5. How can the rest of us get involved? Persons interested in flying can contact Walter Plummer of MIT department ext 250 or email skyflyjamaica@gmail.com - their website isn’t quite ready yet. Have a hobby to share? Tell us what you love doing the most, and we’ll be happy to spread the fun! Contact the Marketing Team at Group Office to share.
