Welcome

About a year ago, our Group embarked upon a journey of discoveries and dreams. We were filled with renewed passion and we were challenged to focus on specific goals to improve our ability to make a successful landing in the future. There is no doubt in my mind that the CB Group will achieve its greatest goal, to become the premier agricultural company in Jamaica and the Caribbean. I can see the company growing by leaps and bounds as our new processing and rendering plants and fertile egg production become a reality in the near future. Certainly, it is not just about what we do, but how and why, we do what we do. The CB Group is focused on making a difference for Jamaica in everything we do. This will be the catalyst for our success. With our involvement in numerous events and actives we are establishing ourselves as a household name, here in Jamaica and further afield. Do not underestimate the power and reach of PAN, the up and coming Jamaica Food and Drink Festival and not to mention, the bigga badda Dawg. All these and more, coupled with our commitment to a cleaner environment, a higher standard of education and increase entrepreneurship through our programs and partnerships are helping to keep us at the forefront in the minds of our consumers. To achieve and deliver on these promises, we must make Jamaica self-sufficient by building sustainable agricultural industries and continue producing safe foods. We cannot do it alone however; we need our people on board with us. We need you to work smarter but to have fun while you are at it. Laugh at yourselves, not at others. Laughter is infectious and creates calm. Be honest with yourselves. Are you willing to work together with attitudes that bring out only the best or just run of the mill results? Your answer could be the difference between average success and exceptional success. Remember, small things done for people will always be more important than great things planned.

welcome

I am filled with a sense of pride and joy as our Group prepares to shake-up the agricultural sector. I urge you to be brave in your opinions and beliefs. We must be known as the company with impeccable character and an unshakeable belief system about what is right and wrong, ethical and unethical. All turning points in our lives must be learning experiences. If not, our personal history will be repeated both positively and perhaps more important, your negatives will grow out of control and a potential crash lies in front of you. Learn each day why certain aspects of life happen and give credence to the successes as they build on each other and carry you to heights even you cannot imagine today. As we meet the challenges before us, it is important to achieve and maintain balance in our lives; a state, which when achieved will influence our ability to be successful and happy. For me, balance in my life is God, family and career. Find your balance and reach for your dreams.

Portland ignites in

For the first time in PAN history, the event made its way over to Portland for Regional 2 on September 24. With the sea bordering the Folly Oval Cricket Ground in Port Antonio and CB banners flying high, patrons came out in the thousands to experience the family fun day at the picturesque venue. With DJ Nico Bam Bam at the turntable, Emcees Dufton ‘Duffy’ Sheperd and Pretty Boy Floyd kept the crowds entertained with trivia questions, competitions and giveaways. Pans lit as the 34 competitors vied for the winning title of their parishes: Kingston & St. Andrew, St. Thomas, Portland, St. Mary, St. Ann, Trelawny and St. Catherine. As the aroma of jerk filled the air, patrons got a taste of Copperwood Pork's barb'jerk pork and the bigga, betta, badda Bad Dawg Sausages, and children played in the Monster Milk Kiddies Village. The entertainment continued with performances from gospel artiste Rondell Positive and dancehall artistes Devin Di Dakta and Aidonia who ended the night with great energy. All competitors were welcomed on stage where CB Chicken Brand Manager Alicia Bogues gave deserving congratulations to the hardworking men and women who are the real backbone of PAN. Each competitor gave it their all, and walked away with certificates and prizes from sponsors while runners up and winners also walked away with cheques up to $40,000.

Front Runner at the Races

With the #1 feed dominating major races at Caymanas Park over the years, it’s only natural that the brand continues to proudly support Thoroughbred Racing. The Front Runner sponsorship covers a series of 6 races: 2 races for the 2 year olds of 2016 and 4 races in 2017 when they become 3 year olds.

Tradition shows that during the Christmas time, ham is the gift that keeps on giving. In the States, Thanksgiving is that festive time. Some say it’s during Easter. Either way, it’s pretty safe to say that ham is viewed as the ‘holiday meat’ – the meat for celebrating. But who’s really to say that ham is only for the holidays? The truth is… any season is ham season! Ham is so versatile and delicious, why not indulge yourself more often? Making a quick lunch? Add thick slices of ham with cheddar cheese, mayonnaise and your favourite toppings for a yummy sandwich. A friend celebrating their birthday? A glazed baked ham is the perfect potluck dish and gift. Making a Sunday evening pork roast? Give it an extra zing by stuffing it with ham and Swiss cheese. With so many ways to enjoy ham, make it a regular on your plate, not just for the holidays but all year round.

It’s October folks,

JFDF is here!

Last year was the inaugural staging of CB Group’s Jamaica Food & Drink Festival (JFDF) and what a whirlwind of 4 days it was! With some of Jamaica’s finest names in the culinary world as well as some up and coming chefs to watch out for, Kingston became a mecca for all things FOOD and FUN. There were six back to back events all with different themes and menus. Pan X finale topped off the food and fun fill week – making CB Foods the talk of the town for weeks to come!

Check out some of the highlights from last year.

JFDF is around the corner, again in the last week of October and we’re bringing back some of last year’s top events like Copperwood’s Pork Palooza while also keeping things exciting with brand new events. around the brand in 30 days — jamaica food and drink festival

#RibsNight

@ JoJo’s Jerk Pit

Copperwood Pork has taken over JoJo’s as of August 31st for a 6 week long, pork-enthused dining experience. Each Wednesday night at the Waterloo Road hot spot, owners Anna and son Jordan have been cooking up something different for their pork-loving customers. Some of the one-time-only dishes have been Asian pork belly with pickled vegetables on a pretzel bun, pork pizza, Vietnamese pho, and a ‘Fluffy Empress’ dish staring pork tenderloin and smoked marlin with cream cheese. Every Wednesday, Copperwood’s big boy ribs and spare ribs can be found on the menu and they’ve been leaving persons only wanting more. Who knows, maybe JoJo’s and Copperwood will decide to make #RibsNight a regular thing... Stay tuned!

Big up Young to o u r

Champions

I’ve been doing farming from I was a baby… when you love what you do it’s not really work. Without farming, I’m not sure what I would do. Matthew Thomas

How inspiring it is when a 13 year old is able to say this. Son of Nutramix’s Winston Thomas, Matthew Thomas walked away with winning titles for Supreme Champion Dairy Heifer and Nutramix Feed Cup for Dairy Type Heifer at the Denbigh Show earlier this year. Noah Vaughan, son of NPM’s Vet Dr. Gabrielle Young has followed in his mother’s footsteps, rearing animals. At Denbigh also, he proudly took home First Places with his sheep and won Champion Beef Heifer–Other Beef Race We’re extremely proud of Matthew and Noah. They are the future farmers of Jamaica and we can only hope that more youth will be inspired by their stories. our community — young champions

A Day I n T he Life O f…

Tracey-Ann Taylor-Noyan

QA Supervisor, Newport Mills Ltd.

our community — a day in the life

19

1. How long have you been a part of the CB family? October 1st marks 7 years working with CB. I still can’t believe it myself. 2. What’s your day like at work in your new role? My typical day as a new QA Supervisor (effected Aug 2, 2016) is quite different from my former role as QA Technician. Work begins from home in the mornings where I check my emails and create an agenda for the day. At NPM, I follow up with my QA Technicians regarding feed analysis, monitor CCPs, QCPs and CPs, and discuss tasks. A general walk-through of the Plant is also done to assess Good Manufacturing Practices and efficient housekeeping. Any discrepancies are noted, discussed and the appropriate corrective actions are made. At 9am each day, I attend an Operational meeting to discuss and share information on activities. Any external lab analysis, review of feed release forms and other QA-generated documents, assessment of incoming raw materials and departmental reports are done during the remainder of the day. 3. What’s the best part about working here? I am pleased to have witnessed the many giant steps and “LEAPs” that the company has made during the 7 years I’ve been here. I love the culture of continuous improvement. 4. What gets you through a hectic work day? The fact that I can totally depend on God for direction and strength; each morning having my 3 year old daughter, Sarah-Lee, kiss me and say “Mom, enjoy work today ok, I love you” makes my day worthwhile; and having a very hard-working, competent and dedicated QA team. 5. Which product is your favourite at CB? I looooove Bad Dawg Sausages! 6. If you could switch departments for a day, where would you go and why? Although technically not a CB department, I would like to work in the canteen - reconstructing the edifice, diversifying the menu and cooking up a storm with Gairy Bowes. Yes, I CAN cook really well. 7. Any embarrassing moments at work? Fortunately, none to date (and I hope it will be kept that way). 8. Any favourite chicken, pork or egg dishes? Pineapple glazed Picnic ham.

team unity tips to boost

“A boat doesn’t go forward if each one is rowing their own way” Swahili Proverb It ’s important that all members of the team come together to move in the right direction with a shared vision, focus and purpose. With individual agendas, goals, energies and egos, it’s not uncommon to hear of the difficulty of teams uniting – not only in the workplace. Team unity is proven to lead to increased productivity, creative development, job retention and reduced conflict. Have you been playing your part to make your team the best it can be?

tid bits — boost your team unity

Check out these tips to boost your team unity `` Organize scheduled regular team meetings – Have a place where members are able to come together to discuss tasks and share what’s happening in and out of the workplace. `` Recognize that everyone plays a unique role – A football team with only defenders will not thrive no matter how skilled they are.

`` Schedule few fun, periodic events – Maybe a football game or a weekend barbeque every once in a while. `` Public acknowledgements – Job well done? Let your colleague know that their hard work does not go unnoticed; congratulate one another and take the time to creatively celebrate accomplishments.

`` Remember important dates – Make time to big up persons on their birthdays and anniversaries. People love surprises for their special days, even when they say they don’t!
