The width of a handlebar determines the stability and agility; too wide will feel slow and sluggish and too narrow will be unstable and sketchy. The 29” width Caleb chose gives the best combination of both quickness and stability. The hand-to-handlebar connection is one of the most important and overlooked things when snowmobiling. The thinner the grip area, the better the connection and control. Using thin gloves and no hand warmers is one way to allow for a small diameter grip area but cold hands can ruin your day. The Kesterke Signature bars have SDG (smaller diameter grip) which tapers the grip area by 2mm so grip heaters and grips can still be used while retaining a thinner grip feel.

Andrew had been cutting down his Boondockers to a 29” width and asked if we could make him a custom bar so he didn’t have to cut his bar down. We went to the drawing board and designed the Munster Bar. We wanted everyone riding all different brands to be able to use this handlebar so we dropped the height to 1” which allows the clamping space to be wide enough to work with all brands and still gives enough room on the handlebars for all of your controls. A great all around riding handlebar with less width for a more responsive powerful feeling in tight situations. The narrow width allows the snowmobile to be thrown around easier for riders with a narrower shoulder width or riders who prefer a narrower handlebar.

For 35 years the off-road faithful have been making the trek to the Lytton BC area for one of the most interesting dirt bike races in Canada. Known as a ‘cross country’ race, the Monkey Wrench is a 100 km set of loops that rewards speed and agility like no other. Racers on the PNWMA circuit often refer to this as the best race of the year because the effort put in by the organizers is second to none. The course features range from steep and rocky to smooth and twisty. Weather of course, plays a huge roll in course conditions. This year the dust was kept at bay by rain on race day, but it didn’t take long for things to get greasy. The large majority had ditched their googles in the first hour.
What started 35 years ago as a get together with friends has turned into a multi-day event with several categories and hundreds of participants. This year, Saturday held multiple class races for kids, a unique Double Trouble event where two people rode the same bike and made various fun stops and then the day finished off with a head to head Dash for Cash that pitted two racers against each other in a loop with air horns distinguishing the winners. Sunday, the main race was held on an A and a B loop. The top riders completed both loops in less than 3 hrs but most took a lot longer. The event ceremony finished things off with great prizes and some burnouts. CFR was proud to support this event and we plan to do it again next year. See you there?

SledGolden and Riley Suhan, along with a host of other sponsors, including CFR, teamed up to bring Canadian snowmobile events a much needed shot in the arm in Winter 2022. The third (except for 2 Covid years) annual Riley Suhan Backcountry Snowmobile race went down in April. 100 participants came to ‘rung what they brung’ at Golden BC’s, Quartz Creek. The 6.5 km course ranged all over and included technical trees, hill climbs, tight corners, machine built jumps and a lot of whoops. To keep things fun, organizers selected team captains who in turn chose their teams based on random name draws. There were prizes for best team, and fastest individual.

You may be surprised at who the fastest riders are. This year, a pack of snowbikers dominated both the hill climb and individual times, by having 3 riders in the top 5. A mostly unknown dark horse ended up putting in the official fastest time. And what of namesake Riley Suhan? Well, he forgot to wear his timing chip... He did run GoPro his whole lap and evidence certainly suggests he was the fastest, again (he’s won the last 2 events too), but without an official time we’re left to speculate who actually is fastest on the mountain, until next year. The RS race acts more like an off-road moto event than a traditional hill-climb snowmobile event. Racers are timed and launched into the to course at 30 second intervals. The course, as you can imagine, gets severely whooped out and the racers at the end of the start order have a much gnarlier course to contend with than those at the beginning of the race. These facts play into the strategy of the team event as team captains, who don’t get any say in who’s on their team, do get to choose the order in which they will run their team. Since the team event is scored as a cumulative group time, it’s an advantage to give the weaker riders an earlier start. It also keeps things fun to the end with the big ringers going last; you don’t know who will win till the very end.

Like all experienced sled-shred partners, the daily protocols happen without much talk between the two. They both know their roles when it comes to heading out for the day and they operate in a mode that makes them as effective as any crew out there. Tandem is increasingly the style of assault up a climb, which marks a right of passage in the dad/grom evolution.

If winter 2022 marked anything for the father son combo, it’s that Devun has arrived as one of the premier grom talents in Canadian snowboarding. The writing has been on the wall for a while, but rarely do you meet someone this young with as much ability to impress as Devun. The kid brings undeniable talent on the board that makes your head shake with wonder. With day over day improvement, the grom seems poised to mix all of the ingredients needed to become an all-time snowboarder. His work ethic has been learned by example from a passionate and hard-working carpenter dad, who unleashes on the weekend with a consistency that is mostly unrivaled by those his age (40+).
It’d be a mistake to think these two will slow you down if you’re in their posse for the day. Rather, one should expect to be pushed in both amount of laps and the level of technical trickery that will occur. Combined with a dedication to pulling out the GoPro, you can always count on these two to come home with a shot.
A snowmobile day in the backcountry is all in a normal winter weekend for 11 year old snowboarder Devun Perry, from Golden B.C. The opportunity, is of course facilitated by the fact that his dad Ave is an OG sled shredder in these parts. Appearances by the duo at the local zones have changed from a novelty in years past to a regular showing as of late.
Devun is courageous in the mountains but he seems to posses the skills to back up big decisions. He also carries the strength needed to smooth learning lessons into not-so-big-a-deals. While his snowboarding is full of bravdo, his personality carries a humility that is willing to listen to the knowledge bestowed to him by any number of dudes he encounters on a daily basis. The New CFR Link It Up Rack 2.0 uses the new Link It Up 2.0 Brackets for ski and snowboard carrying. These new brackets allow for vertical adjustments so that the edges of your board or skis won’t rest on your running boards. The Link It Up 2.0 brackets are ski/board compatible so there is no need to choose which system you might want, it automatically works for both ski and snowboards.

The CFR Mountain Rack-NRW is designed specifically for Polaris and Arctic-Cat snowmobiles. The 16” width and pre-drilled holes in the mounting plate fit the T-slots on the back of most Polaris snowmobiles. All of our bracket kits and both Dime and QP bag also fit inside the new rack. We are constantly working on making our product line better and better. The Mountain rack is as cutting edge as it gets. The overall height of the Mountain rack is 3 3/4”. Dropping the center of mass lowers all of the weight that’s carried in the rack allowing the snowmobile to perform better under load. The CFR Mountain Racks design allows the rack to be mounted on the edge of the tunnel. This will allow OEM factory holes to be used requiring less drilling into the rear tunnel. The design is also engineered to use fewer materials than existing racks yet still be as strong.

The iRack 2.0 is the hybrid rack of the Mountain and iRack. Its bigger carrying capacity allows you to carry more gear as well as any two Bracket Kits (sold separately).
