WHICH RACK SHOULD YOU CHOOSE?
Photo: TGFG_ Location: Revlestoke, BCEver since I first took a snowmobile into the Whistler backcountry in 1999 I’ve been obsessed with the idea of making every day out there just a little bit better. Over more than 2 decades, that obsession has led to everything from designing the innovative snowboard and ski racks that continue to define the sector, to releasing our extensive range of handlebars and controls to enhance the performance of your sled. This winter, we’re proud to unveil our new direct-mount FTP Riser for Polaris snowmobiles; available in six rises and six colors so you can dial in the cockpit feel and look of your new Polaris sled. Our all-new RT Bag takes our years of experience designing tunnel bags and delivers our most accessible yet waterproof bag, with bomber TPU coated fabric and quality YKK #10 waterproof zips. Finally, I’ve been wanting a thinner, more supple grip and the hero grip is the result. The combination of being compatible with the SDG handlebars and being ultra thin gives you the ultimate connection to the machine. The thinner grip also really reduces your fatigue over long days so you can ride further and longer.
- Dave BasterrecheaFinding the perfect feeling cockpit is a liberating experience! The enhanced comfort and control of a custom CFR setup can unlock the true capabilities of both sled and rider, reducing fatigue and wear on the body while allowing you to execute technical moves with less effort and more precision. Enhance your connection to your machine by choosing a setup that best matches your body type, height and riding style. We believe having your hands at the optimum height and angle is one of the most crucial positive changes you can make to the handling of your stock snowmobile. Use this guide to help you get started and as always, reach out to us if you have any questions or just want a recommendation.
MisFit / 29’Er / Crowbar
If you want to use your stock riser then you will need a stock diameter 7/8” sized bar.
Bar rise is the bend upward in a bar. Bar flex is a big consideration when considering your rise as the higher the rise, the more flex you will get. Typically people who want a really responsive bar will keep their rise to a minimum.
Oversized bars give you a strength and stiffness advantage when compared to a stock bar.
Bar width affects hand, elbow and shoulder positioning and feel. The trend these days is towards more narrow set ups that are more responsive to the most dynamic kind of riding. Tandem riders may want more width.
Body stature also plays an important role: taller, larger people may want more width but not all do. Shorter people may want a narrower bar.
Determining your sweep, also called ‘pullback’ is all about comfort. Jumpers will typically like less sweep because it forces a rider to be in a more aggressive stance with elbows over the wrists to brace for big impacts.
We always recommend comfort as a guide and the way to choose the proper sweep is to figure out where and how your wrists intersect with the bar when riding.
Grip size can affect stability and arm pump. Some people prefer to have more to hold on to and some prefer less. SDG or Small Diameter Grips have less girth and possibly take less energy to hold on to. .

Over the past 6 years riding for Cheetah I have had the opportunity to try many different setups. Each season my bar setups have been put through hell and back and not once have they bent or broke, which is a huge priority for me when in the backcountry. Over the past few seasons I have locked down my favorite setup with the 3’riser on the 1” Munster bar. I love the added control and maneuverability of a 29” wide bar and I make it a priority when picking a bar setup.

Get out there and try different setups on the sled you ride. Everyone has a different build and riding style and it’s important to find something that naturally feels good for you. Buying a pair of bars because the color looks cool is one thing but finding the bend and rise that gives you more control and reduces fatigue after a weekend of riding is the key.
I have been running my exact CFR set up for four seasons now and it literally feels like I’m on the same machine, controls wise, every time I set it up on a new sled. The 2” riser paired with the 1” rise of the Munster bar is the perfect height for me to have full control and leverage for my style of riding. I also really like the 29” width of the Munster bar as it gives more strength in my upper body due to my shoulders being closer together. Another huge factor as to why this set up works for me, is the durability and strength of CFR bars. With my aggressive style of riding I need the toughest control set up in the industry.

First of all, think about what type of riding you like to do and how your current set up is working for you, what adjustments do you feel you need to make to improve your riding? For me, a lower set up gives me more weight over the front of the machine which maximizes my control and effort up front of the machine. Second think of how far apart you want your arms while riding. Finally, think about all those rad colours CFR has to help you customize your ride. Now get out there and shred!!

The Misfit bar was made for those who want a narrower, suppler handlebar with SDG (Small Diameter Grips). The Misfit has a ½” rise to dampen the bar and the grip area is tapered by 2mm. Smaller riders, and pretty much everyone with smaller hands will enjoy this bar tremendously. Aggressive tree riders also seem to really like this bar. The Misfit bar is available in both regular and oversized diameters to accommodate both stock and oversized clamps.

The Crowbar is a non-oversized, 7/8” diameter snowmobile handlebar, which means no different riser or adapter is needed to run these on your stock setup. The 7075 aircraft aluminum helps to keep them straight when things go sideways. The Crowbar bend works for hill climbing, boondocking, ditch banging, water crossing, and most any other situations you get into when snowmobiling.
Trail, Trees, Mountain, Catching Air Riding Style:
The Crowbar pad is for 7/8” non-oversized handlebars. Works great on the Crowbar, 29ER and the new Misfit SD handlebar. The softer durometer rubber will soften the blow of an unexpected hit. The pad graphics will add some style to your handlebars.
Andrew had been cutting down his Boondockers to a 29” width and asked if we could make him a custom bar so he didn’t have to cut his bar down. We went to the drawing board and designed the Munster Bar. We wanted everyone riding all different brands to be able to use this handlebar so we dropped the height to 1” which allows the clamping space to be wide enough to work with all brands and still gives enough room on the handlebars for all of your controls. A great all around riding handlebar with less width for a more responsive powerful feeling in tight situations. The narrow width allows the snowmobile to be thrown around easier for riders with a narrower shoulder width or riders who prefer a narrower handlebar.

Trail, Trees, Mountain, Catching Air Riding Style: Strength:
The Boondocker 2.0 is our most popular bar for a reason; it’s got the perfect combination of comfort and control. Things happen when snowmobiling and by using 7075 aircraft aluminum, the Boondocker strength is twice that of stock bars and provides an even better feel of what’s going on. The bar features a 2” quick rise, extending from an oversized, 1 1/8” midsection, which leads to a natural 14° sweep for your arms and wrists. The control response is lively yet damp and the 30” wide Boondocker 2.0 bar has the width necessary for all your controls. The 10° degree forward hook is there for added support in moments of maximum extension and is the extra bit you need during technical tandem riding.
It is important to note the Boondocker is an oversized 1 1/8” in the center. A 7/8” to 1 1/8” adapter or a different riser that accepts oversized handlebars might be needed depending on the snowmobile riser you have.

The CFR 29ER bar is a leader in our 7/8” diameter line up. With an overall width of 29” and a 12 degree pullback the 29ER bar will help you easily navigate through tricky tight terrain. The 29ER is manufactured with SDG (Smaller Diameter Grip) which tapers the grip area by 2mm for a rider who prefers a smaller grip on their handlebar. The 29ER bar will work with most stock risers with no different risers or oversized adapter needed. We use the same 7075 aircraft aluminum as in all of our other handlebars, creating a very strong, great feeling snowmobile handlebar.

Flat Black CD500Caleb’s dedication and passion continues to push the sport of snowmobiling and his new bar is a reflection of that passion, with no detail overlooked in the pursuit of progression. Caleb’s aggressive riding style required the strongest bar possible so we started by making it oversized 1 1/8” out of 7075 aerospace-grade aluminum. The width of a handlebar determines the stability and agility; too wide will feel slow and sluggish and too narrow will be unstable and sketchy. The 29” width Caleb chose gives the best combination of both quickness and stability. The handto-handlebar connection is one of the most important and overlooked things when snowmobiling. The thinner the grip area, the better the connection and control. Using thin gloves and no hand warmers is one way to allow for a small diameter grip area but cold hands can ruin your day. The Kesterke Signature bars have SDG (smaller diameter grip) which tapers the grip area by 2mm so grip heaters and grips can still be used while retaining a thinner grip feel.
The 1” rise of the CK handlebar gives you just the right amount of flex in the bar and allows all of your controls to fit. Slap on one of the best graphics packages in the lineup and boom, there ya go!

“This is definitely the best all around set up I’ve ever found. It’s a fairly flat feeling bar, with only 2.25” of total rise (bar+riser). It’s very nimble in the trees and great overall.”
Personally I like the lower bar for tree riding it lets me use more of my shoulders and back to move the sled around. This setup works good for me because the bars are low enough that I have the control I need but high enough that I have the leverage to make it easy to get the sled to where I need it to be.

The handle bar set up makes the sled. If you go too high with the bars, the sled will tend to high-side you and when you’re too low, the sled will be harder to get on edge. If the bars are too wide for what you’re doing, it will be harder to get over on tricky side hills. There’s a happy medium with everything. With my Arctic Cats I swap the steering out from vertical to the lay-down because it fits my riding style better and I find I have better control. If I run the stock vertical post I switch to a 2” riser. Always make sure when you stand on your sled that your knees are bent and your shoulders are over your bars - not behind them.

“I ran the FTP riser all spring and put it through the ringer tree riding, and jumping. I was impressed with the design and found it a great upgrade over the knucks. It eliminates the need for a post adapter and bolts directly to the steering post. This cleans it up, makes it stronger, lighter and keeps the steering post and riser aligned no matter how hard you land or how bad you crash.” - Caleb Kesterke

ADVICE ON PICKING A CFR SET UP
What body position do you want to be in while riding? If you’re an aggressive rider then you will have your knees bent and in an attack position so you need your controls to allow you to be there and be comfortable. Think about where you want your weight to be on the machine and how the height of the bars can help you get there. There are a bunch of different widths now, so think about how this can give you leverage, stability, and how it lines up with your shoulders, the nice thing is with so many options you can find the perfect fit. Once you have the shape and riser height dialed in, you can add some pop with all the different color choices.
5-1/2” tube converts stock flat style steering post to a pivot style steering post when using a pivoting style handlebar riser.
• Super strong chromoly steel.
• Attaches to stock handlebar clamps or any 7/8” handlebar attachment.
• Positions pivoting style risers on outside of stock handlebar clamps.
The CFR Polaris bar mount cap replaces the stock handlebar clamp for a better fitting/looking bar clamp. A stock Polaris bar clamp will not clear our 1.25” Knucks risers, but the new CFR bar mount cap eliminates this issue, allowing for the lowest possible cockpit setup on a Polaris snowmobile.
The CFR Polaris T-Post adapter bolts on your factory Polaris flat post. Made from 6065 Aluminum and CNC’d to perfection. Using the CFR Polaris T-Post adapter allows you to install our knucks risers directly to your T-Post for a solid connection with fewer parts.
This kit allows you to use your stock steering post and removes the height adjustable feature off your Arctic Cat snowmobile. Simply cut below the adjustable part of your steering post and install the new T style billet block (step by step directions included). You will also need to get a riser (height of your choice). Eliminates 90% of the slop found in the stock adjustable post and saves over 1lb, depending on the height of risers you choose.
These adapters come in the Knucks risers to make them compatible with 7/8” handlebars. These are replacement rings if you lose the ones that come with your knucks.

When people ask about how to get the right set up I say there isn’t a perfect first set up because they may have to fine tune after riding awhile. Key point is when standing on sled you want your knees with a slight bend and also your elbows bent. You never want both straight. That is very important so that you are able to take impacts of any kind and also puts you in more control. Also having a lower bar set up may feel off at first but once a person gets used to it you won’t wanna change. You will have way more control of the sled and less negative feedback from the skis

ADVICE ON PICKING A CFR SET UP
“I like a really aggressive stance when I’m riding and therefore I picked a 2” riser. I’m 6’1” and depending on how you ride I’d probably recommend a 2.5” or higher. I used to run a 3inch riser but as my riding progressed I dropped to a 2inch which gave me even more control in technical trees and also when progressing into 270 flips, re-entry’s. ”
Our Narrow Bar Pad is a low profile offering that fits between a mountain strap, especially on a new Doo. The pad is made of high density foam and is wrapped with a tough Cordura top with a rubber logo. Velcro on the bottom latches the pad to the bar.
The CFR bar pads are designed to fit all CFR handlebars or any oversized large diameter handlebars. The dual density foam will protect against sharp corners and hardware on riser. The Cordura material with CFR logos is long lasting and can withstand cold temps and all of the abuse that comes with snowmobiling.
The Crowbar pad is for 7/8” non-oversized Handlebars. Works great on the Crowbar, 29ER and the new Misfit SD handlebar. The softer durometer rubber will soften the blow of an unexpected hit. The pad graphics will add some style to your handlebars.

The CFR Mountain Rack-NRW is designed specifically for Polaris and Arctic-Cat snowmobiles. The 16” width and pre-drilled holes in the mounting plate fit the T-slots on the back of most Polaris snowmobiles. All of our bracket kits and our RT, QP and Dime bags also fit inside the new rack. We are constantly working on making our product line better and better. The Mountain rack is as cutting edge as it gets. The overall height of the Mountain rack is 3 3/4”. Dropping the center of mass lowers all of the weight that’s carried in the rack allowing the snowmobile to perform better under load. The CFR Mountain Racks design allows the rack to be mounted on the edge of the tunnel. This will allow OEM factory holes to be used requiring less drilling into the rear tunnel. The design is also engineered to use fewer materials than existing racks yet still be as strong.
Features:
-Designed by CFR’s super team of snowmobilers, skiers, and snowboarders.
-Total rack height is only 3 3/4” high.
-Carries up to a 20L or 6 gallon jerry can.
-Carries up to two pairs of skies and or two snowboards with proper attachments.
-All mounting hardware is made from high grade stainless steel.
-Compatible with CFR Dime and QP bags

April
I had another wildly successful Feeder 500 event. This year I had 77 sleds race and over 200 people attend the event. New for this year I purchased a set of “Port-A-Tree” drag lights which made the drag racing feel more “real”. All the racers said it was much more fun to have the lights and get a printed out time slip. Also new for this year I awarded points for the top 8 finishers in each class.
I put in so much work behind the scenes the past 12 months, trying to both coordinate the event and make sure I had a good running sled to race in every class. At the end of the event the points were tallied up and I won “Points Champion” with a total of 144pts. All the late nights, busted knuckles, and money spent was worth it whether I won or lost. But winning sure was the cherry on top.
2nd place was won by my girlfriend Adrianne Clark-Conley who had 79pts. She competed in all the women’s classes as well as 3 of the men’s classes. She was awarded our “Dorthy Mercer” award for winning “Women’s Point Champion”.
The Feeder 500 is for the racers and the community. It brings me so much joy to see everyone having a good time. I’m proud to have brought snowmobile racing back to the Lake Tahoe region. Next year I plan to add a couple of new classes. A Senior 60+ and a Women’s Pro Mod. The event has gotten big enough where I need to have it be spread out over two days. Drag Racing will be on Saturday and Oval Track will be on Sunday.
Thank you CFR for your support this past winter. Without your support, product, and time I wouldn’t be able to put on the Feeder 500. - @BenBirk

What started as a standard testing day for the new Polaris FTP risers and Cluster Relocates, took an interesting turn when CFR product designer Trevor Hunt (pictured) and CFR owner Dave Basterrechea (photographer) found this once in a lifetime ice tunnel.
“In this committing scenario, where losing your sidehill will have you at the bottom of an ice wall, my 2” prototype FTP riser and Misfit bar gave me the easy confidence that a lower and narrower than stock cockpit can create,” -Trevor
