In contrast to Harvest Bistro, Grove Lounge provides a more intimate and moody atmosphere where guests can nest in an environment of urban nature. Patrons can start their day in Grove Lounge with a cup of Seattle coffee and end it with a glass of the finest local wine at night. With the mysterious and enticing vibe of a forest grove, this bar is a comfortable and soothing place to relax and unwind with friends after a day on the town. The hotel’s environmentally friendly decor is continued with low VOC fabrics, live plants and earth-friendly materials. The black marble bar and deeper colors of the fabrics and furnishings contribute to the dramatic ambiance. It is the ideal meeting point and place for socializing day and night.

Patient Care + Family EDUCATE. Patients and families are able to receive information more effieciently and accurately to better participate in the care and decision-making process. Not only are families at the hospital educated on the care and delivery there, but their hands-on approach has given them the knowledge to better take care of the patient after they are discharged and sent home. When there is a lack of clarity, information can be misunderstood or innacurately shared. Within the space, an interactive tv screen across from the patient allows a seamless workflow for the nurses but also gives access to both patients and families to care schedules and systems that rate pain levels/care needs, control devices, food service and video chat with distant family members.
IDEC Student Design Competition Sponsored by CIDQ
ENGAGE. patients, families, and health workers can collaborate on personalizing the care and delivery of their patient based on elements like beliefs and cultural backgrounds. Issues arise when some health care staff members have to deal with families that begin to question the skills of the staff member during caregiving procedures. However, with a comprehensive organizational structure, most challenges can be overcome. In the space, the separate family area allows a hospitality-like setting that makes it homey for a visitors' extended stay. A more closed space allows healhy two-way privacy for nurse-patient and nurse-family conversations and interactions. This layout makes it more tolerable to keep the families close, yet still distant when it is appropriate.
ENCOURAGE. Not only are patients and families encouraged
to implement their values in the delivery and care but they are also encouraged to actively participate in policy and program development, implementation, evaluation and application. Families are also encouraged to choose the level of involvement. It can become a problem when overinvolved famiels begin to ask too many questions or make too many unreasonable requests. In this case, more strict and organized methods/meetings need to be implemented from the start of the process. The design of the family area in regard to the patient room shows the welcoming environment of a well-stocked room from the staff to the family but still gives a sense of control and hierarchy when it comes to authority and involvement.

RESEARCH SUMMARY - Patient and family ideas, views, and cultural backgrounds bring a positive contribution to the care planning and delivery - Information sharing becomes easier to communicate in an unbiased way. Patients and families receive information more effectively - Patients and families are able to determine the level in which they would like to participate in the care and decision-making
