I want to contribute to society by sharing the gospel, and I feel that this internship will give me the skills and experience to pursue my goals as a writer and editor in contributing to the international development of the Church. I am a senior at Brigham Young University, studying English with a minor in editing. In order to refine my writing skills, I am emphasizing in creative writing. I have taken two classes that trained me to write for children and young adults. In one of these classes, we collaborated together as writers, illustrators, editors, and graphic designers to create picture books for children. I wrote three picture books in this class and this experience taught me how to write for a younger audience and how to work on a team to produce quality work. I also took a class focused on writing for children and adolescence and began a novel for young adults. These classes, as well as many others, taught me how to be creative, target an audience, and meet deadlines. I have also completed many editing classes at BYU, which have given me experiences in perfecting my own writing, substantive, and copyediting skills. In addition to classroom experience, I have had the opportunity to gain work experience as an editor, writer, and designer. I have been a staff member of Stance, a student journal, which publishes articles and blog posts focused on the family. While working for Stance, I wrote blog posts and helped writers perfect their manuscripts for publication. I am currently a writer, copyeditor, and designer for Mormon Insights, an online database targeting young adults that summarizes articles written by Church Authorities, professors, and other qualified writers. I am also interning with Jamison Family Wellness where I write, edit, and design flyers and worksheets as well as produce content for their website. Presently I am also a teacher’s assistant for a Digital Humanities class that teaches an introductory level of InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop. I believe I am well qualified to contribute to and learn from the staff of the Liahona and Ensign or New Era and Friend. I look forward to speaking to a member of your hiring committee about this internship. Thank you for your time. Sincerely, Chelsea Jamison
