Introduction

This is a document of Story Telling. In this document you will see all the assignment that we had to make from week 1 till the end of the course of semester of Game. Semester Game consists of two course, Game Art and Game Play. Story Telling is part of the course Game Art.

Short story: The hidden truth The family Carter is a very popular family in a village. Family Carter has the biggest business in the village, a factory business of making silk. Cindy Carter is the daughter of William Carter, who is in charge of the whole factory since her father retired 5 years ago. Cindy has a step big brother Carl and a little brother James. Cindy is taking charge of the business for 5 years and in those years she gained a lot of client and make profit like nobody in the village. She is a strong business woman in the eye of every villager. Little brother James is studying Psychology in London and he received this tragic news from her parents about the dead of his sister. James is very sad and cannot focus on school anymore, so he decide to go back home and help her parents out with the business. James has a very close relationship with his sister, because his sister always look after him and send him money so he can go to college. When he came back home, his parents told him that his sister committed suicide, because her husband wants a divorce. Cindy couldn’t take the divorce so she decided to commit suicide. They found a letter next to Cindy’s body, wherein she wrote of her husband’s other love and the divorcement. James is totally sad about the situation and deep down inside, he doesn’t believe his sister was suicided. James can’t accept his sister just suicide for a man who doesn’t love her. Cindy was always a strong sister to him. James keep thinking about the death of his sister, he still can’t figure out why her sister committed suicide just because her husband wants a divorce. Now James decides to investigate his sister’s death secretly in the family. The silk business is related to many family members, especially James’ uncle Phil. Uncle Phil always has the mentality to take the business over because he thinks he can run it better than anyone else in the Carter family. James begins to investigate each family members in the business and then follow by the employees. He begins with uncle Phil, but he didn’t find anything that seems related to the death of Cindy. During his secret investigation, his father ask him to take care of the family business, because no one is in charge of the business since Cindy died. Father William decides to let James handle the business, because big brother Carl is a very playful person, he would not take good care of the business. James is already 28 years old and it’s time that he needs to take the responsibility of the family business. While James is investigating secretly, it turns out nothing looks like it seems. Each family member has their own secret hidden from everyone. He finds out his father was having an affair with an employee of the factory. It becomes more scary while the truth of everyone become clear. James always thought his family was a good family with no problems and no hidden secret like that at all, but that is not true.

After 4 months of secret investigation about the family, he finally finds some evidence of the death of his sister. The important

evidence is the letter that Cindy wrote before she committed suicide. James read the letter a couple of times, but this last time he found it really strange. He knows his sister hand writing, but some how it’s strange. James remember that his sister used to write the letter “s” very curly. James went to his room and take out a letter that his sister wrote him a month ago before she died. It’s very clear that Cindy wrote the letter “s” very curly, but the letter “s” that she wrote in the letter was normal. The next evidence is on the back of the letter, there was something that looks like a stamp. This kind of stamp looks very familiar to James, he thinks about it for a couple of minutes and realize that this is the business stamp of the family Carter. There are only 2 person who can use this stamp, Cindy and cousin Mat. Maybe Mat murdered Cindy and he accidentally left this unclear stamp at the back of the letter. But James can’t imagine why Mat has to kill Cindy, they don’t have any argument with each other, well not that James known. James goes deeply to investigate more about cousin Mat’s personality. From some employees James heard that Mat and Cindy sometimes are weird, like they are going in the warehouse secretly. James went to the warehouse to investigate and there was a secret door behind the closet. James removed the closet and open the door and there was a stair way to go down. He follows the stairway and enters into a tiny room. The room was very organized and some stuff are from Cindy, like her favorite vase was there. James was absolutely surprised about this secret room, no one knew about this. How come there is a secret tiny room in the warehouse? James keeps asking why and how this can happened. James stopped with thinking and begin to search around for anything that may be related to the death of his sister. He didn’t find anything and was disappointed so he sat on the bed, but wait there is something he sat on. James sat on the pillow, but it seems like there is something under the pillow, it’s hard and has a rectangle shape. He removed the pillow and there was a book lying there. The book is locked up, it looks like a diary to James. James forced to open it and it is a diary of his sister. He begin to read so maybe he can find out what happened to his sister. At the last page of the diary Cindy wrote that she is in love with another man. She really love him and she doesn’t have any feelings for her husband anymore. Cindy also wrote that she knew that her husband has another woman. There is something strange at the back of the cover of the diary. James peeled it off and there was another letter that his sister wrote. This letter is about how sorry Cindy was because she fell in love with his cousin Mat and Cindy was also pregnant. After done reading James freeze about it, he can’t believe what his sister did . James began to cry and believe that Cindy committed suicide, because not for the reason of divorcing but of her pregnancy of Mat. Cindy can’t ruined her reputation so she decided to commit suicide and still keep her reputation clean for the family Carter. But still James keep thinking, is this the truth of everything or is it more than this.

Das Experiment The Monomyth (The Hero Story)

The ordinary world: Tarek Fahd is a cab driver who gives the impression that he does not enjoy his job. He is a calm individual with

a certain amount of flair. He is confident and portrays his character as a direct individual. On the ad page of a newspaper Tarek discovers the call for the experiment and finds himself intrigued because he can use the money. When Tarek gets involved in a car accident, he meets a woman, which he begins to develop feelings for.

The call to adventure: Main character breaks himself out from the black box and partly takes the moral and practical lead as he

helps other prisoners to escape. Enemy’s efforts start to get even more desperate as things start to break apart. There will still be victims on both sides as one of the cops who did not fall as low as his colleagues defeats his morally rotted ex-comrade. Other prisoners can’t still escape as they end up trapped. Escape seems to backfire. After the accident Tarek visits his old job at the local newspaper. Here he asks his old employer to give him the assignment to create a news article about this experiment from the inside out. The man is reluctant about this proposal and agrees only on the term to create a article with photos for ten thousand dollars/franks. With this article Tarek hopes to earn enough money he desires and get a shot at getting his job back at the newspaper

The refusal of the call: There is no refusal of the call in this story. Tarek accepts and offers everything by his own free will and

even after the event where he pisses on by the guards in the jail he refuses to leave the experiment.

The meeting with the mentor: Tarek’s mentor is Major Steinhoff. In the beginning of the film they don’t see eye to eye but when

the story progresses they begin the trust each other. Steinhoff keep saying Tarek needs to act obedient but of course Tarek doesn’t listen to his advice. When thing get out of hand in the fake jail they both decide that it’s not safe to sit out the experiment. After the guards kill their friend Schütte they find a way out of their cells and run together with all of the other prisoners.

Crossing the first threshold: I think the first step into the adventure was when the guards used the fire extinguishers on the prison-

ers and took away their clothes and beds. This was the first some what extreme measure the guards took against the disobeying prisoners. On the other hand after that incident there was still a way back. The doctors leading the experiment didn’t think that the guards where crossing the line and did not stop the experiment. After that there was the incident with one of the prisoners who wanted to leave but wasn’t allowed to. When not knowing what to do he punched one of the guards resulting in him getting beaten with police batons. But still after this the guard only got a warning and the experiment went on. When the guards discover that one of their own is helping a prisoner they use violence for the first time for no real reason. As of this point thing go south real fast and the experiment is getting catastrophic results. The crossing of the first threshold could also have been the first moment all of the test subjects set foot in the experimental jail. But at that point there still was a way back.

Tests, Allies, Enemies :The hero of this story is being tested quite a lot. He’s participating in this experiment for his job. Tarek

is a journalist and in need of a story. He brought glasses equipped with a camera so he can film the things that happen in the jail for his story. To get some good material for his story he rebels against the guard so they get fed up with him. With this behaviour he makes some enemies like Major Steinhoff and Berus the guard. Tarek actually becomes allies with Steinhoff after he sees how the guards respond on situations they can’t control. But in the process of getting the guards fed up Tarek gets his head shaven by them. Also further the movie he gets beaten up, he has to clean the toilet with his prison uniform and is put in a small black box as punishment. These are some of tests he needs to get through.

The approach to the innermost cave: The moment when one of the guards starts talking about his girl, Tarek hits the guy. The ordeal: Escaping from the prison. The reward: There isnâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;t any specific reward at the end of the movie. The only thing that can be considered as a reward is their freedom.

The resurrection: Hero together with his strongest ally faces rest of the guardsmen. When the situation is turning bad, heroâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s

girlfriend comes to rescue. The hero gets almost gets killed last (and partly leading) guardsman is about to stab him. However, he stops the knife with his hand and resolve gained from the ordeals. This also helps guardsman finally to wake up to the reality and his conscience makes him stop. Final moral victory is achieved whence hero prevents his friend from killing last one the guardsmen in his rage. The normal situation is regained and some sort of humanity is still left.

The return with the reward: Hero sits with his girlfriend on the beach. There has been some mental change in both of them, but it is left under the lid. Only mattering thing is that ordeals are finally over. What he does after it is left open.

Recommendation

Sandra Yuen:

I would recommend this movie to a person that likes this kind of genre. I’m not a person who likes documentary or this kind of genre movies. Das Experiment is based on real life story which I found it very disturbing for me, because the tension was constantly from the beginning till the end. There were some funny parts which it was good, but too short to relax and became annoying. Furthermore the violence takes over a little too much for me, I’m not used to that. But after all it was a good storyline. I would recommend it to a person who likes this kind of movie.

Gamze :

This is a movie that starts off kind of comical and action based. The sound effects in the beginning make it hard to take the events seriously. Thus, someone could refer to the first 30 min of this movie as bad cinema. When the story develops and the characters are realizing the reality of the dangers of this experiment the movie begins to get interesting. The emotions portrayed by the characters are spot on. Where you will find yourself bored and wanting to walk away the first half of the movie, you will be intrigued and fascinated by the events in the final half. This is definitely not a movie for a wide audience.

Roope:

Why I would NOT recommend this movie… If one has studied original Stanford Prison experiment and expects it thus being more ‘’documentary’’ it can thus be a bit turn off. If one is ready to accept it’s ‘’movie’’ dimension, the thought that it partly bases on true experiment gives a bit more ‘’spice to it. Movie starts as kinda realistic but might get bit too action oriented more unrealistic on latter part which might not be good for everyone’s taste.

Character description:Tina Watson Tina Watson is a 28 year old girl who is from a large town located on the plains at the north side of London. She lives on her self in an apartment down town which is a normal lifestyle. Tina just graduated a year ago from college and is already accepted as a detective in the police department. Tina is a very caring person, every Sunday she goes visit her parents. You can say Sunday is their family day, because her two bigger sisters also visit them. A day that they are chilling with each other and share some news about each other live. Tina is the youngest sister and when she was little her sisters always tease her and laugh her out. For all the teasing that she had been trough, has made Tina become a stronger woman. She is a very smart, outgoing person, but at the same time not very nice, much like too straight forward to things and impatient. Her friends usually like to hang out with her, but when she has problem or stress with her job, her friends will run away from her. Tina likes to be alone when she confronts with some issues and solve the problem herself. Mostly when she has problem, she will go to the gym and stress it out. Talking about Tinaâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s favorite food is seafood. She loves seafood, she can eat every seafood that you can imagine and especially lobster. Another thing is, she loves to try some authentic food, like Chinese cuisine and much more. Well Tina is also a kind of a busy woman, even though she has only one job. She has a lot of hobbies like tennis, boxing, swimming and especially shooting practice.

Character description: Jake Koizumi Jake Koizumi is an agent in the Drug Enforcement Agency department. He is an adopted child in the Gobi desert of Mongolia. His step father found him during a military mission when he was 3 months old. Jake is now 30 year old and he lives all by himself in London. He has a strange personality like he doesn’t talk that much with people, but he has a really good friend who always been there for him. She also works in the police station as a detective, Tina Watson. Jake consider her as a close friend, whom he can tell about everything, she is more like a little sister to Jake. Jake has a secret job that even his close friend doesn’t know. He is an assassin. His step father trained him since he was a young boy to be an assassin, because his step father doesn’t believe that justice can take every bad person. Jake didn’t have a normal childhood like other children, that’s why he is so shy and not that social to people. When justice can’t take bad people into jail, Jake will hunt them down to punish them. He is like a judge and takes actions into his own hands. When he takes action he will dress up like a ninja, so no one can recognize him. He has been doing that for years. After work Jake is just a normal person like everybody. He likes to go to the gym every day to keep fit. He eats very healthy like no junk food at all. Besides that Jake also has a hobby, every month he will buy a big puzzle and solve it. After solving the puzzle he will put the puzzle in a picture frame to hang it on the wall. So this mean Jake is very good at solving puzzle.

Synopsis A girl named Lucy was always curious about her identity and one day she finally have the courage to find out her real identity. Lucy is an orphan child who was adopted by her parents when she was 4 months old. Sister Marie found her in a basket in front of the door crying loudly. There was no letter or other sign on the side to be known who left this little girl here. Lucy was covered up with a red blanket, but under that blanket Sister Marie found a golden necklace with a jade pendant around her neck. These are her belonging when Lucy was found. Lucy grew up to a beautiful and smart girl. She is a college student who is very brave and smart. Lucy decides to search for her biological parents and find the truth of her real identity. She starts her journey with her best friends Tina and Jake. Tina and Jake grew up together with Lucy and they are very close like siblings. They agreed to help Lucy find out her real identity, who she really is. They start looking for some information, but nothing can’t be found. The only clue that Lucy may have is her necklace. From the necklace maybe she finds some more information. Lucy says: ”this is a luxuriant necklace, it’s got to be from a rich family”. So they went to each rich family in the town and ask if they recognize the necklace. But still no one ever saw the necklace before. One day Lucy was at the library and she saw a girl walk by with a book. The book is about the history of the royal family Heartville in the year 1700. On the back of the book there is a symbol which it looks familiar. It was the symbol of her jade pendant. Lucy starts to believe she might me part of the family Heartville and starts her journey to look after the family of Heartville. During their journey something very strange is going on. They are like being spy by some people, there is always one or 2 people walking behind them dressing all in black. They think it must be some secret that they want to hide of. What can it be? ................ After all the journey they finally broke the secret of Lucy’s identity. Lucy is the princes of the royal family of Heartville. Lucy was given away to be protected from the bad people. The bad people are bandits who came to rob and kill everyone of the family. Luckily Lucy is safe now and the person who safe her was still alive when Lucy and her friends found him. This person was the butler of her family and he also hand the golden tiara and the staff back to his princes Marryjane (Lucy) Heartville.

Report of Process

The synopsis is about the story of my concept game. My concept game is an adventure game. Player needs to help Lucy out finding her real identity, who she really is. Behind the game there is a story about Lucy’s identity, why and how. Therefore it wasn’t very difficult to write the synopsis, because I already have a short story like a summary in my high concept document.

Storyboard

For the storyboard I’ve picked out several scenes and sketch it out. The reason why I picked several scenes instead of one was because I want to tell the whole story just in eight storyboard. A story may be long and boring, but with images (storyboard) can easily be understand what the story is about. Another reason is because people can easily capture images and memorize it faster than just hearing the story. Picture 1: Orphanage Picture 2: There is a baby in front of the door (of the orphanage). Picture 3: People from the orphanage found the baby. Picture 4: The golden necklace with a jade pendant that the baby came with. Picture 5: Lucy is curious about her identity. Picture 6: Lucy is in the library. Picture 7: She found the book. Picture 8: Ending. She is a princess.

Final work

For the final work I’ve chosen the ending part of the synopsis, where the girl Lucy become a princess. I wanted that to stand out more. The ending is the most important part of every story, which I decided to draw it out in Photoshop. Actually I wanted to make an illustration and put collages of pictures in it but that would have taken too long. So that’s why I decided to draw it in Photoshop. It’s a happy ending time for Lucy after her long and scary journey.
