1. Three immersive space

Immersive properties I find this picture very immersive, because it makes me easily drawn into the world. The world in the picture is more fantasy than reality. In the reality you won’t see a temple with a fireball in it.This picture gives me a feeling of curiousness and I’m wondering what is the story behind all of this happening. It’s not just a picture, but it’s more like an attractive picture that you can go deep into a whole new world. Just by looking at the picture, it makes me curious to search for an answer about the story of the fire temple. The bird on the bottom right makes it more real. It seems like the bird is coming out of the picture and bump into my head.

Immersive properties This fanstasy world is very immersive, because you never know what is going to happen. This is also the reason why I chose this picture. What attracts me the most in this picture is the crystal ball, it looks like a staff. From this visual point it seems like the town is in the heaven. And it also seems like you just discovered this town based on the different landscapes. That is the forest and the city. The difference is that you are standing on a hill looking down to the town.

Design The design of the picture is based on reality in combination with fantasy. Everything in the picture is not realistic, it’s pure computer drawing. Only the mountains look real but they are not real pictures. They took the shape of the objects and turn it into a fantasy design.

Design The world is based on the visual point out of a forest. In this picture they use Roman buildings as design style. You can recognize the Roman architecture on their shapes and towers. It seems like this world took place in the year of 184 before Christ. This style is based on real objects turned into fantasized world.

Ambiance This picture gives me a dangerous feeling. I can feel the heat of the fireball and all the birds around it are so tense and are in a state of panic.

Ambiance The bright color gives you a calm feeling. Furthermore there are some dark colors such as the tree that clearly gives you a view to feel the realness of the world.

Immersive properties This is a 3D street art that is really suitable for immersive space. From this point of view of the picture you can see the drawing become real, while it’s just a drawing. You may ask your self how is this possible that the kids can fly on a carpet like in the cartoon of Aladdin? Ofcourse it’s not possible, but in the 3D drawing it makes it possible. The shadows of the painted building makes it more real. And the people walking around it also makes an effect of realness in this drawing. Design The buildings in the drawing are the same architecture model as those buildings in the street. All of those buildings are in Roman architecture. Therefore they also paint some extra blocks on the edge to create the real effect. These blocks also create a deepness of the drawing that looks like the buildings are constructed there. The flying carpet makes this picture more immersive, because it makes you wonder if this is real or not. Ambiance The ambiance in this picture is more like in a Persia culture. In this picture they use alot of bright colors to create the distance, which makes the people and building look smaller. Dark colors are used for the deepness of the buildings.

2. Objects in room

I chose to add a white dove, because its use as a symbol of love, peace or as a messenger. And beside that doves appear in the symbology of Christianity. Therefore I put it in the sunshine on the exit or entrance of this secret place. The dove indicates that something good is happening.

For the second object I chose to put an owl in the left corner of the picture. The eyes of the owl attract you to have a closer look at the picture.

The next object that I chose is a little girl. This little girl makes you wonder why she is standing there alone. Is she a ghost or something? This is the effect that I want to create, the curiosity of the objects that make you wonder what the story is behind the picture.

This is the last object that I put in the picture to make the view smaller. The object is located on the right of the picture. Normally you can’t notice that its an extra object that I added in the picture, because the object is also part of the forest. With this object I want to create the feeling that you have just discovered this secret place in the forest.

Immersive properties This is an immersive space picture that I made from another picture. In this picture you see some objects that make you wonder what is happening there. Those are not just simple objects that I chose randomly, but objects that belong in the environment of the picture. From a normal picture I transform it to look like there is a story behind this picture. The owl is the attraction point, those eyes of the owl attract you to look deeply into the picture. Therefore you want to explore more about the happening in the picture. Design The design of the picture is like an old abandoned building/church. This building/church is like located in a big forest. Therefore I want to make this picture looks like a mysterious place. Ambiance For the ambiance I used more contrast to increase the mysterious effect of this picture. I added some bright colors in the picture so it doesn’t look scary or tense. Bright colors can indicate calmness and also lead you a way out of the darkness.

Original photo.

3. Ideation Room questions What is the first place/room that you can remember? The first room that I can remember is my own bedroom. It’s very quiet and relaxing.

Can you name and describe objects that were there?

There is a laptop on top of my office desk in my bedroom. There is also a bookshelf next to the desk and a bed ofcourse. All of those object are the same color, light yellow wood color. I have also a big window next to my bed.

What is the biggest space you’ve ever been into?

The biggest area I’ve been is in a garden of a castle. The garden is very big, I cannot see the end of it. The garden is surrounded with a lot of plants and fountain.

What is the smallest space you’ve ever been into?

The smallest room that I’ve ever been into, was a bedroom at somebody’s house. That room was so small that only a single bed and a small closet can fit in. I couldn’t put anything else in it, because it’s too small.

Why do you feel comfortable in some areas/room?

I feel more comfortable in a room with many colors or lights. Typical lights from outside make me feel calm and peaceful.

Why do you feel uncomfortable in some areas/room?

I feel uncomfortable in an unorganized room. A room with no lights or windows make me uncomfortable and depress. I prefer to have a window in that room because I can see what is happening outside and I also can escape through a window.

What makes you have that feeling? A room with no windows or lights makes me feel unsafe.

What room or area you’ve never been to, but you can surely imagine?

I’ve never been in a big palace before, but I can imagine how big it is with high round ceiling.

What kind of room or area can you not imagine?

I cannot imagine my self in a dark old room. Everything in that room is so old and dusty.

Can you remember a room of a scary movie, describe that.

There is a scary movie called “The Insidious” that I will never forget. The scariest part of the movie, was when the guy was cursing to an old woman spirit. That guy was inside and the spirit was standing outside of the house. The spirit was standing at the backdoor of the kitchen and suddenly she began to laugh, meanwhile the environment changes vice versa. It turned out that the guy was standing outside of the house and he was locked out. He will be staying forever in the spirit world.

Can you remember a room of a good feeling movie, describe that.

Normally I like cartoon movies, because they are always so colorful. My favorite movie is called Finding Nemo, it’s a Disney Pixar cartoon movie. At the beginning of the movie I remember the place was so colorful when the father of Nemo brought him to school. That scene was full of joy and happiness. The children were playing and laughing with each other. What impresses me is the environment in which it took place in the ocean. I love that kind of world in the ocean. The ocean is big and it’s free to swim everywhere. The feeling of underwater is very calm and relaxing, especially the noise of the waves.

5 room questions.

Do you like more of an indoor or outdoor space?

I like the outside world more, because it gives me more possibilities. The outside world consists of many living creatures like animals and plants.

What is the most important thing to has a pleasant or unpleasant ambiance in a room? I think the most important thing is the color of the room. A colorful room gives me a nice feeling about it. Beside that, objects in the room must be organized, it makes me want to stay longer in that room.

In what room/area do you ever want to be?

I really want to be in Acapulco, Mexico. The beaches in Acapulco are very nice to visit. There will be a perfect view of the beach.

In what room/ area are you in now? I’m in my room at home.

What kind of feeling do you have in your room/area now?

I have a calm and relax feeling, because I’m living alone in a studio. I only hear my rabbit is scratching her cage sometimes.

I

Mindmap 1. A girl This is a mindmap of a girl. The first scene is about a girl in her room, that is the subject. Only a girl in her room is not sufficient to create an entire scene. Therefore I made this mindmap to guide me through the objects that could be placed in the girl’s room and to define her character. In this mindmap I can also see what kind of hobbies does she have and her living environment. From this mindmap I can imagine that this girl is about 20 years old that lives with her parents. She is in college studying Bio Technology. Furthermore she loves drawing.

Mindmap 2. City center This is the second mindmap that I made for the second scene. Making this mindmap it will be clear what kind of things can be found or belong in the city center. This mindmap guides me to my idea of my second scene. I only know that for the second scene I want it to be in the city center, but where exactly that I want is not clear enough for me. Everything that can be related to city center is in this mindmap. I choose the second scene to be on the street in the city center. Anything could happen on the street and I want this scene to be very crowded and noisy. Therefore on the street can be very crowded than any other places. The street will be crowded with many people walking around and many cars are driving and honking. This is the best place to bring out the frustration if you are walking in that street and trying to be relaxed.

Mindmap 3. Fantasy This is the mindmap for the third scene. The third scene is the last scene of the story. In this mindmap is all about fantasy. What you can imagine is in this mindmap of fantasy. Acctually this mindmap could be wider, because everyone has their own imagination or fantasy world. This is the basis if you talk about fantasy. With this mindmap it would be very easy to choose in what kind of environment the last scene will be. Furthermore base on the mindmap I can also think about the objects or situation that can be in the scene. In the fantasy world will be very colorful. The objects that could be in the scene will bring out the feeling of freedom and relaxing.

4. Research Moodboards This is the moodboard that I made for my Immersive Space. With this picture I want to bring out my story or idea for my Immersive space. The main thing about this moodboard is the reality goes into the fantasy world. For the making of this moodboard I used real photography to bring out the reality. The fantasy part concsists of vector’s picture. Actually every style of the picture is possible in a fantasy world. But there is a lot of styles to choose which it doesn’t make any sense to use all of them. For combining all those styles doesn’t bring out the real design or the message you want to tell. By selecting a specific style gives it another level of design to it.

Moodboard of the 1st room. Room of the girl.

This moodboard is made for the first scene of my Immersive space. With this moodboard you will be able to see what kind of mood there is in the room. This room will take place in a girl’s room. In this girl’s room the environment is very calm and relaxing. Furthermore it’s clean and organized. In this moodboard you can also feel the ambiance of the room. Therefore I used different objects that belong in the room. With these object you can imagine how the room will look like and what ambiance it will have. This moodboard also reveal a specific color that can be the color of the room. Based on the moodboard this is the result of the colorpalette that came out of it. With this colorpalette I can choose a single color or a combination of colors for the room. There are more orange colors in the colorpalette than any other colors. The orange colors change from light to darker colors. The darker colors can be used for places with shadow. And the light colors can be used for objects that are exposed.

Moodboard of the 2nd room. Crowded street.

This moodboard is for the second room. This second scene takes place on the street. This street will be very crowded and noisy. The ambiance of the street will be stressfull, depressed and makes you want to escape from it.

These are the colors from the moodboard in a colorpalette. This colorpalette contains alot of darkcolors than bright colors. Based on the colorpalette the darkcolors and greycolors are the specific colors that came out of the moodboard. Therefore I will choose grey and dark colors for my second room. These two colors also mean for unhappy, stressfull and depressed.

Moodboard of the 3rd room. Fantasy world

This moodboard is for the last room. This last scene takes place in an open area like in the forest or mountain. The ambiances of this moodboard are happiness, joyfull and friendly. This moodboard reveals also the happiness of people in the fantasy world.

These are the basic colors from the moodboard. These colors are very colorfull. Therefore in the last scene I will use different colors to create the ambiance that matches with the fantasy world.

This is another colorpalette of the moodboard based on the brightcolors. Actually their isn’t a big differences between these two colorpalettes. I wanted to make another brightcolorpalette from it, because these colors are needed for my room. The brightcolors are specially needed for some fantasy objects. The brightcolors can standout from the scene.

5. Synopsis Short description of your world. Escape from the reality to the fantasy world. An imagination of a girl that can escape from the reality to the fantsy world. This girl doesn’t really want to be in the reality. The reality is too boring with many difficult situations in life. Therefore she wants to be in a world that makes her happy. She always imagine that she is in a fantasy world exploring different things. Your vision: what is your message. Reality escaping to the fantasy world. To have happiness in your imagination. Brief description of three rooms. Room 1: Girl’s room. Based on her point of view. She is sitting at her desk doing some homeworks next to the window. Her desk is kind of organized but only her study books aren’t organized. Furthermore from her point of view through the window she sees a path leading to the city centre far away. There is some sunlight that shines through the curtains into the room. The sunshine gives a relaxing and calm feeling. But it’s too boring in the room just by doing some homework. Therefore she goes for a walk in the city centre for relaxing herself. Room 2: Depressed, crowded street. The girl arrived in the city centre and trying to relax herself. That isn’t going to happen because today the street is very crowded. There is alot of people walking around and many cars are driving and honking around. It’s so noisy. It seems like a storm with thunder and lightning is coming this way, the wind begin to blow very hard. All these factors make the street more noisy and depressed. So how can she relax in this kind of environment. There is a moment a big colorfull butterfly is flying around her. She touches the big butterfly and goes to the fantasy world. Room 3: Fantasy world. The girl came with the butterfly into the fantasy world. This is the world that she has always imagined, when she is depressed with some situation. For relaxing herself she just enters in her own fantasy world, her imagination becomes true. The girl become happier, because everything is so colorful and joyful in this world. Everything in this fantasy world is possible like for example a floating castle in the clouds.

Ambiance description. The ambiance starts from boring to a depressed ambiance followed by a happy and friendly ambiance world. Design description. For the first and second scene I will use real photography and for the last scene it will be photogarphy in combination with vector and disney graphics.

Examples of possible actions that could be in the scenes.

Scene 3

This is a growing flower. A possible action in the third scene. I choose this object, because it’s related to the environment in the scene, This growing flower can also mean a new life in a new world.

Scene 1 This pen will be a possible action that could be in the first scene. The action will be a writing pen. Therefore this action will repeat continuously to create a depressing feeling in the scene. It also matches the placement of the objects in the room. There are many books on the desk and it seems like there is alot to do like it never will end.

This will be the second object with possible action in the scene. It’s a pencil holder with colored pencils. This object will fall off the desk, because the environment is stressed out. This object also indicates the hobby of the person. This person likes to draw a lot. By looking at those colorfull crayons could be meaning that the person has a lot of fantasy.

This is another object that could be a possible action in the scene. The action of this object could be floating in the air across the scene. With this object I want the scene to have a relaxing feeling. This air balloon is floating slowly around that keeps you calm.

Scene 2 A butterfly could be a possible action for leading to the next scene. This butterfly will be flying around to get the attention. This object seems like its not belong in that environment. It’s different compared to other objects in that scene.

These objects are specifically chosen for the scene, because they are fairies. Fairies are only an imagination or fantasy for wizards. These fairies are flying around with their magic wand. This brings out the fantasy environment.

6. Photo-assignment This object is the same object as in the first picture. This time I took it from above. This will create an effect that the object looks flat and small.

This picture is taken on the leftside of the object. The light doesn’t align with the angle from the picture. With this picture I can have a view of the shadow of a object. How the shadow will if the picture is taken on certain angle. Here it depends which angle you choose to take the picture. This is another picture that I took with different objects. With these two objects together you can feel that they belong to be next each other. Furthermore, I put some light in between of the objects. With the light effect gives the environment a warm feeling.

In this picture I used three objects. These three objects give a crowded messy feeling. The gnome is hidden behind the plant. First feeling is like you don’t care what is behind the plant, because everything looks so unorganized. The second thing is that you can have a good view of those plants, so the focus will be on those plants.

I took this picture from a different angle. The straight point of view on the other angle, but it’s taken on the left side of the object. The point of is different compare with the whole straight point of view. In this view you can only see some part of the object and it makes you want to see the real object is or consist of. Furthermore, I put a light in front of the object that the light it shines through the object.

7. Draw a butterfly This is a real photo of a monarch butterfly. I will use this type of photography to make it more realistic. This type of photography can show very details of the object. You are able to see every thin outline of this butterfly. The colors of the butterfly are also unique. Like the yellow part it’s not just a solid yellow color, but it’s blended with a light orange that cannot be imitated.

This is a sketch of the Monarch butterfly. This is another type of graphic. In this type you can only see the outline of the object. Furthermore sketching an object is without coloring it, it’s just black and white. I will not use this type of graphic in my Immersive space, because it doesn’t match with my idea. Either I can use it, but it will become not immersive.

This is a Vector Monarch butterfly. Vector’s graphic looks mostly like a cartoon. They look unrealistic. It’s based on real object but in another style of graphic. I will use this type of graphic in my Immersive space in the fantasy world.

This is a kind of vector graphic. I call this a fantasy butterfly, because the use of color is unrealistic. They just imagine the colors that they want. This type of really matches with my world of fantasy that I want to create.

As conclusion I picked real photography for my first and second immersive rooms. For the last room I will combine Vector graphics and real photography in it. With this combination it will increase the imagination of the fantasy world. It’s like half real and half imagination.

9. Reflection Questions DEEFASE 1. What was the best way to come up with ideas for your product? The best way is to do a lot of research about the topic of the product. During the research I came up with different subcomponents like, mindmaps, moodboards and inspirations. Putting all these subcomponents together creates a path to the final product. 2. How did you come to your final decision for a subject? Which arguments did you had? For my final decision I always keep asking different questions about the subject until every single point is clear to see. For examples, why do I like this, where/how did I come up with this idea and many questions more. 3. What was the vision of your subject and why did you choose this? The vision for the subject is more to have a happy ending. I have seen a lot of other immersive spaces, but most of them are really serious full of sadness. Therefore I want my immersive psace to be what friendly or happier. 4. What would you do differently next time? For the next time I will set my vision more concrete. Because this time it wasn’t that concrete about the last scene. The idea was not sure for how I’m going to design the scene. 5. How would you define the term ‘immersiveness’? You are new in the environment and everything is so curious. The curiousness makes you want to explore this environment. DESIGN 1. What is the hardest part for design and how did you overcome those difficulties? Styling the scenes was my difficult part for designing it. It was difficult to make a choice out of those styles. 2. How did you achieve your ‘immersiveness’ and did it work? First of all I did some research for some subjects. Base on the research I came up with an idea for my immersive space. The idea was clear enough to begin with, because I already had that image in my mind. In other words I already picture the immersive spaces. It was like seeing the scenes before I made them. Only the details of the scenes was missing.

3. How have you tried to convey your vision in your movie and did your movie succeed? I already picture my two scenes for my movie and they succeed. Only the last scene didn’t succeed, because I didn’t picture it how it would look like. 4. How did you get the effect that a user does not feel right in an application interface to have come, but in an environment? Every interaction is accurate with the environment of our daily lifestyle. 5. What kind of aspects of your design are successful and which not? How would the non-successful aspects can be improved? Putting shadows on some object was difficult me. I need to do more research on that. The visual point of certain angle did succeed. 6. What did you come through with the research of design? Can you identify that? I came through with different things reseaching for the design. They were to many research that can’t identify it. I just all of those research together and came up with a design. 7. What would you do differently next time? Next time I would think and pick some easy idea instead or a difficult idea. Because it took me so long to decide what or how am I going to do this. MOVIE 1. Can the user see / find out which parts of your space is interactive? Of course, al interactive parts can be detected by mouse over. The mouse cursor changes into a hand cursor, that means you can click on it. 2. Is the navigation to other space clear? Yes, it is clear and logical to detect that the object can lead you to another space. 3. What sounds / music did you use and is this the intended effect? Al sounds are logical that matches with the objects. 4. What would you do differently next time? For the next time I would choose diffrent sound that is similar to the logical sounds. It could be more interesting and more funny to explore.
