A number of reasons to celebrate MANY people either look forward to the festive pe riod and begin their countdown to Christmas in Oc tober, while others are left running for the hills to avoid the ‘silliness’ that comes with the season. As we get ready to wind down and take a breath er, we decided to reflect on some of the wonderful reasons to celebrate the year that was. Yes, we can talk about some of the lowlights as well (no pun on the word ‘lights’), but that would not be very festive at all. The team at the Fever has had a wonderful year and has shared some truly remarkable memories with you. We’ve had an actionpacked year from meeting wonderful individuals who are slowly changing their communities one step at a time to covering campaigns that shows a proactive community who are willing to fight for their beloved home towns. To those people who are continuously going the

extra mile to serve others, we would like to salute you and thank you for allowing us to share your sto ries. This year South Africans voted hoping for the best – many are now glued to the parliament ses sion coverage because you never know what to ex pect. In 2015 we will be joining the queues for the byelections and once again, hoping for positive change. We know we live in a beautiful city and another reason to be a proud Durbanite is Durban has been voted an official new Seven Wonder City of the world. The picturesque beaches, rolling hills and breathtaking skyline together with a host of won derful inhabitants, sets us apart from the rest of South Africa. After 40 years, the Miss World title is held by a South African.

Rolene Strauss was crowned Miss World at the weekend and now features in a long list of remarka ble women who continue to make a difference to the countries they live in and the world. South Africans also took time through out the year to remember Nelson Mandela and do their bit to fulfill his legacy. It’s been a year since his death and many ques tioned the stability and patriotism of South Afri cans. The good news is, it seems as if communities are now more united than ever. Many believe his spirit still lives on calling it a sprinkling of ‘Madiba magic’. Clearly South Africans will continue to make great strides despite the negative news that some times comes to the fore. The Fever would like to wish all our fantastic cli ents and readers a wonderfully happy festive sea son and here’s to welcoming 2015 in style.

Dear Readers, TODAY marks the end of another year for the Hillcrest Fever, and as the festivities kick off for this season, let us reflect on moments that touched our lives and the community this past year. 2014 has been marked by persistent challenges in our economy with price inflations (food, electricity, fuel, etc.). We had weather catastrophes and crime

continues to destroy some of our communities. However, the one thing that continues to stand undefeated is the spirit of the Upper Highway community. Through the difficult times, our readers have once again proven that we are, without a doubt, among the most resilient and strong-willed. We have weathered all the storms that came our way and have demonstrated that we can be a community to be proud of - from our disabled horse rider achieving his goals to a local woman beating breast cancer and becoming an inspiration to others - our community stands together proud! We are confident that 2015 will be better than ever. We, at The Hillcrest Fever, have faced our

own challenges this year, but as we enter 2015 we renew our pledge to you to do our very best to continue to be the most accurate, fair and balanced source of news, opinion, features, sports and entertainment in the Upper Highway Area. We will continue to be open and honest with our readers and we assure you that the new year will be one never to be forgotten. Our hearts go out to those who lost loved ones this year and those experiencing difficulties of all types this holiday season. We extend sincere and warm wishes to our Hillcrest Fever family for a safe and peaceful festive season, and a happy and prosperous 2015. Kalisha Naicker Senior Journalist Hillcrest Fever

New HIV test vaccine launched 4

WEEKLY

WEEKLY REPORTER

A

N HIV vaccine efficacy study to determine whether a virus can be prevented from being transmitted from an infected to the uninfected person was launched at the SA Medical Research Council (MRC) in Verulam on 30 November. The study - HVTN 702 - is under way in several South African research centres and aims to establish whether an experimental vaccine regimen prevents HIV infection in South African adults. MRC CEO Professor Glenda Gray said in a statement: “HIV has taken a devastating toll in South Africa and we are still seeing about 1 000 new infections every day, but we now begin a scientific exploration that could hold great promise for our country. “If an HIV vaccine were found to work in South Africa, it could dramatically alter the course of the epidemic.” The experimental vaccine regimen

is based on the investigated clinical trial in Thailand led by a U.S. Military HIV Research Programme and the Thai Ministry of Health. According to the report, the trial in Thailand delivered landmark results in 2009 and the experimental vaccine regimen it tested was found to be 31.2% effective in preventing HIV infection over the 3.5-year follow-up period after vaccination. Principal investigator at the HIV Vaccine Trials Network (HVTN) Doctor Larry Corey said in a statement: “This launch represents a significant HIV prevention milestone. In earlier studies, this vaccine regimen improved on many of the antibody responses to the types of HIV strains circulating in South Africa, providing us the scientific basis to conduct this pivotal trial. “This study will provide important insights into vaccine development to help prevent new infections and end the epidemic.”

The study is conducted at 15 research centres in South Africa and its protocol co-chairs are all local researchers - Professor Linda-Gail Bekker of the Desmond Tutu HIV Centre at the University of Cape Town, Doctor Fatima Laher of the Perinatal HIV Research Unit at Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital and Doctor Mookho Malahleha of Setshaba Research centre in Soshanguve. Media liaison officer for Treatment Action Campaign (TAC) Mary-Jane Matsholo told the Weekly: “The TAC welcomes and appreciates the vaccine initiative, however it is still early to give further comments as far as this matter is concerned. We will be waiting upon the results and as soon as they come out, we will give further comment.” The report said that 5 400 volunteers are being randomly assigned to receive either the investigational vaccine regimen or (substance that has no therapeutic effect, used as a control in

Volunteers taking part in the study go for HIV blood tests before being administered with the vaccine. The MRC said in a statement: “All study participants will receive injections on five occasions over the course of one year. The safety of the HVTN 702 study participants will be closely monitored throughout the trial, and participants will be offered established methods for preventing HIV infection. “The vaccines do not contain whole HIV and therefore do not pose any danger of HIV infection to study participants. Despite these precautions some study participants will become

infected in a similar manner to other members of the community.” Institutions funding the trial are the National Institute for Allergy and Infectious Diseases, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and the South African Medical Research Council. According to the report, HVTN 702 started a few months after the interim results were reported for HVTN 100, another study, which found that the new vaccine regimen was safe for the 252 study participants. The programme of clinical studies on this regimen in South Africa is known as Uhambo, which means “journey”.

‘No’ to sugar tax union HE Food and Allied Workers Union (FAWU) and Coca-Cola Beverages Africa (CCBA) employees, marched in solidarity in the streets of Durban against the pending introduction of the sugar tax by government last week. According to FAWU, the determination to mount this march was informed by admission from the Treasury and their researchers that there will be job losses emanating from this sugar tax. In addition there are claims that those lost jobs will be will be fictitiously created elsewhere, say in bottled water or 100% juices factories, yet there is no scientific study to prove this. FAWU general secretary, Katishi Masemola said: “We support a quest for a healthy nation and want an obesity-free population if that means a citizenry not prone to heart problems, strokes and hypertensions, diabetes and other non-communicable diseases. “However, we do not believe that a tax on sugar-sweetened beverage products will be a mechanism to

is introduced as a revenue-raising exercise for the government fiscus we may agree, but if it is introduced as a health policy intervention, we beg to differ and we can argue with alcohol

and tobacco that those taxes may not have worked as claimed as policy steps for all sorts of realities.” Masemola said it may well be that the issue of obesity is beyond the sug-

requesting medical assistance for the injured man. Upon arrival the security officer was found to have sustained a gunshot wound to his left thigh. It was established that while on patrol, the security officer dropped his firearm resulting in an accidental discharge. Paramedics stabilised him on scene before transporting him to hospital.

ports of a murder. Upon arrival the body of an unknown man was lying in a bush next to the Verulam Day and Frail Care Centre. The victim was naked from the waist down. He was found to have sustained a single stab wound to the chest. The motive for the murder has not been established at this stage.

ary beverages into other sugar contained products as well as other fat-intensive products. “The question is will those products be taxed as well? It is precisely for these reasons that we held the march. “In any case, we do not think that some of the arguments, such as that obesity and consequential diseases are of lifestyle such as narrow consumption of sugary drinks because there may be multiple factors revolving around dire socioeconomic conditions, caused by treble crises of unemployment, poverty and inequality, in consuming an ‘affordable’ sugary Coke drinks or diluting an Oros concentrate into litres of drinks than a lifestyle choice of consuming a relatively “unaffordable” 100% juice,” she added. An employee of CCBA, who joined the march, said that the sugar tax is just another way the government is making money out of its citizens. “If they claim this is in the welfare of the citizens of South Africa, then surely they know that job losses affects us negatively. “This tax is unnecessary. If it is implemented on all beverages then all products such as sweets, biscuits etc., which uses sugar, should have a sugar tax to it as well,” said the employee. HABISO Gumede (25), from Hambanathi in Tongaat, brought home honours after winning three awards at the National Rural Youth Service Corps (Narysec) programme at 3 Sai Battalion in Kimberley in the Northern Cape last month. Gumede, originally from eSikhawini, in the uThungulu district, hopes to use this honour to make his community a better place. He told Weekly he applied early this year to take part in the programme, in which students from various provinces participated. Narysec is a youth skills development and employment programme spearheaded by the Department of Rural Development and Land Reform in a bid to recruit and develop unemployed rural youth to perform community service in their communities. The first award he received is the Officer Commanding Commendation Certificate for most disciplined during the duration of a youth programme. The second award is the Officer Commanding Commendation Certificate for the most overall youth and the third is the National Department of Defence Spade, a youth symbol for farming. Gumede was the only youth coming from Tongaat who received the National Department of Defence Spade. “The programme started in August and we were taught about good leadership skills. It was really an honour to be one of many young people from across all walks to participate in this youth programme. “There are a lot of skills and impor-

Therefore we need to prepare now. I am now an agent of change in my community through the skills I acquired in the programme. Everything we learnt we have to give back to the community.” Gumede urged SA youth to be proactive. “The youth must be informed and be active citizens of their country so as to be part of its developments in all forms. “I am the change I would like to see in my community and the country. Nobody is buying it

NC SecretaryGeneral Gwede Man tashe might be an old warhorse, ac customed to dealing with sticky business on behalf of his organisation, but I couldn’t help feeling sorry for him at a me dia conference on Tuesday. The media briefing room at the ANC

headquarters in Johannesburg, Albert Lu thuli House, was packed to the rafters due to massive public interest in the outcome of last weekend’s National Executive Com mittee (NEC) meeting. ANC NEC meetings take place every two months, with special sessions called occa sionally, but this meeting was particularly significant because of an unexpected de bate on President Jacob Zuma. NEC member and Minister of Tourism Derek Hanekom made a call for Zuma to step down from his position and was sup ported by a number of other members who made the case for why the president should not continue to be the ANC’s number one deployee in the state. They came up against a rigorous fight back from allies of the president, who at tacked them and demanded that they re sign from their own positions because they did not have confidence in their leader. The debate unearthed a number of issues that had been kept buried because of the con

spiracy of silence in ANC structures about Zuma’s leadership. Every time a scandal emerged, the re sponse of the ANC was to close ranks and defend the president. The leadership also shut down debate in ANC structures, including on the Consti tutional Court judgment on Nkandla and the issue of state capture. It is apparent that the ANC can no longer keep the lid shut on its massive can of worms. The NEC debate allowed many people to vent about issues they had kept silent about, including Zuma’s inappropriate rela tionship with the Gupta family, the infesta tion of corruption in the state and the Mari kana massacre, for which there is still no jus tice for the slaughter of 34 mineworkers. The debate was so fiery that two NEC members almost came to blows. Unfortunately for Mantashe, he had to be the one to tell the large contingent of domestic and international journalists that

after the NEC’s protracted debate, the meeting decided that Zuma did not have to step down and life should move on as normal. Nobody bought the story, even though Mantashe was emphatic that those who ar gued for the president to leave office were “persuaded” into a consensus position that Zuma should stay. Because Zuma’s defenders blocked a vote being taken, the balance of support on the issue remains untested. Mantashe, who was the one who brought the news to the world in Septem ber 2008 that the ANC NEC had decided to recall former president Thabo Mbeki from office, now had the unenviable task of com municating that Zuma was not really the source of the ANC’s decline. “The NEC resolved it was more urgent to direct the energies of the ANC in its entirety to working towards the unity of the move ment,” Mantashe said. He also told journalists that the stability

Much still needs to be done

THERE has been much in the news about a downgrade to junk status for South Africa. The implications of a downgrade are multifaceted, especially in terms of invest

ment into our economy. Countries eager to invest in SA use the ratings as a barometer to gauge the amount of money they want to put into our country. The general rule is that countries that do not have their monetary and fiscal policies in place, where corruption is ram pant and where the political cli mate is unstable, will be overlooked as an investment destination. The recent an nouncement by

Stats SA that our unemployment rate has increased from 26,6% to 27,2% is not good news for our country and economy. Our pri orities in SA need to be refocused. Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan needs to be left alone to do his job. If the Hawks and NPA feel there is a case against the minister or anybody else, they need to bring forth au thentic evidence that will stand up in court. South Africa can no longer afford the use of state apparatus to settle scores. If this practice continues, the 55 million people of this country will suffer because of clandes tine decisions made to the detriment of our country and economy. For now, SA can triumph in the glory of not being downgraded thanks to the ster ling efforts of Gordhan and his team, to gether with other stakeholders who clearly

of the ANC could only be assured with the “improved ideological clarity of the mem bership”. He had to fend off questions about the incongruity of ANC ministers voting against a motion of no confidence in the president in Parliament but arguing for his removal behind closed doors. “We must never allow that, we must deal with our issues, difficult at times, but never surrender our forces to the generals of the enemy,” Mantashe said. The ANC often perceives itself to be in war zone instead of a healthy, dynamic de mocracy, and therefore has a penchant for referring to opposition parties, civil society organisations and occasionally the media as “the enemy”. With pressure coming from many quar ters, the ANC is desperate to paper over the cracks and is struggling to contain the Zuma fallout. The real enemy of the ANC is the one within and no amount of spindoctoring or ideological camouflage can obscure this hard truth. • Ranjeni Munusamy is a political journalist and commentator for the Daily Maverick. ranjeni.munusamy@gmail.com

comprehend the ramifications of a down grade. However, the reality off the situation is that we have staved off a downgrade temporarily. There is still work that needs to be done. With our fragile political leader ship and spontaneous and destructive poli cy decisions, like firing and changing Fi nance ministers, together with issues of state capture, SA has a long way to go. Our economy is not growing at the expected rate, next year we are going to be taking on more debt and our political climate is con tinuously under scrutiny. South Africa can only prosper if all, espe cially state institutions, remain focused on creating a winning nation. This obviously lends itself to sound and honest leadership. VIJAY SURUJPAL

THE Tongaat Child and Family Welfare Society held their World Aids Day and 16 Days of Activism programme on 3 December at Mandela Square, outside municipal offices in Tongaat. The aim of the programme was to make the community conscious about HIV and living a positive life. The programme also aimed to promote the 16 Days of Activism for No Vi-

olence Against Women and Children campaign, and the community was given information on how to put an end to violence against women and children, and pamphlets and condoms were distributed. IF want to reduce your water consumption then you’ve most likely been researching or already have installed a grey-water system. Grey water allows plants to grow where fresh water may not be readily available. Before you go ahead and re-route all your plumbing, here are few things to take note of: Don’t: • Use grey water piped from the kitchen sink or dishwasher. Both use chemicals that are toxic to plants and some even have long-term effects on certain plants. • Allow grey water to sit in a container or silo for long. It needs to keep moving or it can stagnate and turn toxic from bacterial growth. • Allow access to the grey water for pets and children – grey water is safe for plants, but not for consumption. • Let grey water pool in the garden. Grey water should never flood the garden as the bacteria in the water will clog the soil and prevent drainage. Irrigate properly so it disperses and drains into the soil quickly. • Let grey water into any irrigation system. Rather spray using a hose and pump to prevent contamination. Do: • Use biodegradable shampoos, conditioners, detergents and soaps. This will lessen the likelihood of bacteria and toxin buildup. • Catch the “warm up” water from the shower. This is the highest quality grey water as it is soap free. • Spray grey water with a low pressure hose or sprinkler. • Use the grey water as soon as possible so it doesn’t sit and stagnate. - Supplied. bp

HE Early Act Club at Acacia Primary spread Christmas cheer to the Ramakrishna Mzamo Home for children with cerebral palsy in

Trenance Park recently. The pupils went the extra mile to embark on their last project for the year and obtained sponsorships and provided bath tow-

els, toiletries, cereals, juices, cakes and also set up a Christmas tree to bring smiles to the children. The members also enjoyed inter-

acting by assisting them to eat and play. The feeling was overwhelming as most members had their first experience with disabled children. Mrs K.

Persad (co-ordinator) expressed her gratitude to Ms Doris (social worker) for allowing the members this great experience. - Supplied.

KZN’s young cricket stars ready for national challenge KWAZULU-NATAL Cricket Union honoured the province’s crop of future cricketing stars and wished them well for their various agegroup national weeks this December at the annual KZN Schools Capping Ceremony in the Presidential Suite at Sahara Stadium Kingsmead on Thursday evening. With Hollywoodbets Dolphins captain Morné van Wyk and team mates Cody Chetty and Sibonelo Makhanya – both who graduated from the KZN Schools programme into Franchise cricket – in attendance, the young primary and high pupils enjoyed their share of the limelight as they received their KZN caps from their local cricketing heroes and messages of support from key delegates. “We congratulate all of our youngsters on being selected to play for KwaZulu-Natal Cricket Union’s provincial schools teams,” said KZNCU president, Fa-eez Jaffar. “It is indeed an honour and a privilege to represent our wonderful province.” “These weeks give you the opportunity to forge friendships with players from different backgrounds and cultures and different parts of our beautiful country that will last a lifetime,” added KZNCU Amateur Manager, Jay Naidoo. “Good luck and best wishes.” The action gets under way with the CSA U13 Boys Week in Cape Town from 9-13 December, CSA U15 Boys Week in Potchefstroom from 8-12 December and the CSA U19 Girls Week in Pretoria from 9-13 December. The Rural U17 Boys Week then takes place in Nelspruit from 10-14 December and the CSA U17 Boys Week in Benoni from 1115 December. “This is the culmination of many hours of hard work and sacrifice that have contributed to this significant milestone,” said KZN Primary Schools Cricket Association Chair-

person, Charles Morgan. “We wish all of our teams and travelling parents a safe journey to the various venues.” “In representing our province, you have the responsibility to be outstanding ambassadors both on and off the field,” heeded KZN High Schools Cricket Association Chairperson, Siva Subrayen. “Let fair play and good sportsmanship be your mantra at all times!” The programme then culminates in the much-anticipated Coca-Cola Khaya Majola U19 Week in Bloemfontein from 16-20 December where Glenwood High School’s Joel Veeran will hope to lead the KZN Schools side to victory. “We back ourselves, and with the team we have this year we want to win all six of our games,” explained Veeran. “We believe we are the best and we’re looking to go out there and prove it. “As players we know each other well, the relationships are good and the team vibe is great, which I’m sure will also help the team be successful at Coke Week.” Veeran, who made his debut at the tournament last year and went on to earn SA Colts selection, is excited by the opportunity to lead his side in Bloemfontein as well as the launching pad the tournament gives himself and his team mates to further their careers. “Coming into such a prestigious event like Coke Week, experienced players are a big factor and hopefully I can bring a bit of a calming effect and a lot of tactical advise to the team. “Learning to cope with the amount of pressure that Coke Week brings is a stepping stone for every young cricketer’s career, while being selected for SA Schools or SA Colts can also make a huge difference in players trying to make it to the top.” More information can be found at www.dolphinscricket.co.za - Supplied.

ATA has introduced an additional, limitededition variant of its Indica hatch as an added-value offering. The new model, known as the Indica Flash, is based on the Indica LGi model, with several distinguishing features and significant additions to the list of standard equipment. The Flash is now specified well above the standard specification of its main competitors in the market. At R124 995, it is only R6 000 higher than the standard Indica. “We are confident that the Indica Flash special edition is going to be a success as it is a true value-for-money offering aimed at first-time buyers and those with a limited budget,” said Kyri Michael, the CEO of Accordian Investments which markets and distributes Tata passenger cars and light commercial vehicles in SA. People will be able to identify the model with

its bold black stripes, incorporating the Flash logo, running along the bottom of the doors. The steel wheels have also been replaced with spoked alloy mag wheels. However, the scope of the big upgrade comes once one sits inside the Indica Flash. Firstly, there are leather seats with the Flash logo appearing on the top of the front seats, while the steering wheel has a soft leather grip. An audio system with USB and hands-free Bluetooth capabilities has also been added. The Indica Flash is powered by a 1,4-litre engine which delivers 56 kW and drives the front wheels through a five-speed gearbox. Claimed overall fuel consumption is 6,5 litres/100km. It has a three-year/100 000 km warranty and a two-year/45 000 km service plan plus roadside assistance. — Supplied.

weeklywheels Petrol ‘bonus’ for motorists >> Motorists shouldn’t be too optimistic about further fuel price drops

M

OTORISTS are in for an early Christmas gift with a slightly cheaper price for a litre of petrol and diesel, the department of energy announced on Saturday. On Wednesday, petrol dropped by

20c a litre, while diesel decreased by 32c a litre. The wholesale price of illuminating paraffin went go down by 28c per litre, while the single maximum national retail price of illuminating paraffin

(SMNRP) dropped by 38c. The maximum retail price for LPGAS went up by 17c per kilogramme. The department said economic factors which impacted fuel prices in-

cluded a decrease in the average international product prices of petrol, diesel and illuminating paraffin. The Automobile Association said on Tuesday, based on unaudited month-end fuel price data released by the Central Energy Fund, that the petrol price would likely drop by about 41c/l and diesel by 38c/l.

However, it cautioned that motorists shouldn’t be too optimistic about further fuel price drops. “Future movements of the rand and international petroleum prices have become very complex to anticipate, and since these factors are the chief drivers of the price we pay at the pumps, South Africans should be cautious about hoping for further fuel price drops,” the AA said at the time. It noted that a host of highly fluid factors is at play, including local political developments, rating agencies’ view of the economy, and the impact of possible changes in U.S. policy after president-elect Donald Trump takes office. “We expect this volatility to be reflected in fuel prices in the next few months,” the AA said. Last month both grades of petrol increased by 45c/l, and diesel went up by 63c/l. – Fin24.

weeklywheels Positive run continues for Ford W

HILE new vehicle sales remain on a downward slope, Ford Motor Company of Southern Africa (FMCSA) continues to defy the general industry trend and notched up a fresh set of all-time sales records during November 2016. After securing its best-ever market share of 16.4% during October, Ford went one better in November and ended with an all-new record share of 17.3%. This was driven by its year-onyear sales climbing by 6% compared to last year, with a final tally of 7 245 vehicles for November – thus entrenching its status as the second-best selling brand in the country. The Ranger was once again Ford’s star attraction in November, topping the light commercial vehicle segment and the industry overall for the second consecutive month – and by a significant margin over its nearest LCV competitor. “We are absolutely overjoyed about our sales performance for November, with Ford achieving an all-time share record, our highest sales volume in two years and the best-ever results for the Ranger,” said Neale Hill, Director of Marketing, Sales and Service for Ford Motor Company Sub-Saharan Africa Region

“The market was down 9.6% yearover-year, so for Ford to consistently buck the trend in a declining economy is humbling and reflects the way the market in general is reacting to the new range of Ford products and the exceptional performance, technology and value proposition we offer. “With the Ranger setting another all-time record of 3 680 units in November, it proves the response to this vehicle has been superb. What we’re

seeing coming through very strongly is the new 2.2 TDCi Automatic derivatives that are rapidly gaining traction in the market,” Hill added. “We’re also encouraged by the performance of the Everest range, with November being the first month of sales for the extended range which is now proudly assembled in South Africa.” “We have also had great feedback from customers and dealers alike regarding our new Ford Options vehicle

financing plan which was launched in November. We expect this to gain strong momentum in the coming months.” Following a record-breaking month in October, the Fiesta continued its strong performance and recorded 1 130 sales in November. This contributed to a substantial 19% climb in year-to-date volumes compared to last year. The Focus has followed a similar

trend, with the 331 units retailed in November leading to its volumes growing by 15% on an annualised basis. Ford’s top-selling EcoSport retained its unrivalled status as king of the compact sport utility segment, attaining 908 units for the month. Notably, the Everest range, which has grown from two to eight models with the launch of the new 2.2 TDCi derivatives, a selection of 4x4 and 4x2 models as well as the high-value XLS models, also gained significant ground. November sales reached the highest figure yet for the year on 359 units. Commercial vehicles The Ford Ranger notched up its second consecutive month as South Africa’s top-selling vehicle, and as the leader of the highly competitive LCV segment. The 3 680 Rangers sold in November represents a new record for Ford’s trend-setting pick-up, ending the month 1 188 units ahead of the nearest competitor. A total of 5 776 Rangers were exported from Ford’s Silverton Assembly Plant to markets in Europe, the Middle East and Africa, reaffirming the sustained high demand for this crucial model. - Supplied.

After losing Singh, who made 26 runs, to an excellent delivery by Keagan Gopal, which bowled out and left Singh speech- less. Maidstone then introduced their spinner Sashen Gopal into the attack. Rishen Madhoe, contributed 26 runs to the score as hefavored the spinners and displayed some excellent big hitting and unfortunately fell vicTongaat: 032 944 4688 (Sarith) tim to Gopal.

Gopal thereafter demonstrated an excellent spell of spin bowling as he rumbled Seatide’s top-order and middle order. Gopal finished off with figures of (5-5-35). Maidstone introduced Bradley Gounden later on in the innings as he wrapped up Seatides’ lower order finishing off with figures of (2.1-3-2). Maidstone bowled out Seatides Dolphins for a dismal 105 all out. Maidstone headed the run chase with openers Ushveer Mungal and Sashen Gopal. Mungal who contributed 37 runsproduced a captain’s innings as he showed an excellent display of batting, with shots all around the ground.
